I see a lot of lists tagged “jeskai breach” on goldfish but theyre all just blue moon decks with no white. In that spirit, is anyone here actually playing a breach package? If so what does it look like?
I don't think anyone is playing jeskai breach. MTG goldfish has a weird system for categorizing decks.
In theory you could cut some burn/finishers for the package, but I wouldn't. I'd rather play nahiri (which is also less deck space) if I wanted a wincon like that.
Hey it's been a while since I posted on the forum here. Just wondering what the state of Jeskai is currently? I've been playing a lot of Taking turns and I love it because it has a control element but has a clear path to victory.
I think I am going to come back to Jeskai with a sort of burn idea in mind.. I had mentioned it previously. I think Jace is a sideboard card honestly or a one of. I think I would want a total of like 11-12 burn spells (4x bolt, 3x helix, 3x boros charm, 2x electrolyze) and then Geist
I think running 1x Jace or just instead focus more on search for azcanta to dig for answers. It also keeps the mana curve down playing this way and would allow for 3x cryptic command without clogging your hand with 4cmc
I also think Gideon is really good and would be included because he fits nicely into the shell as well as secure the wastes..
These are my thoughts currently for the deck..

I think currently jeskai is having a tough time bc of bloodbraid at least for me bloodbraid in jund and in GR ponza have been really back breaking.
But maybe other ppl are having much better success.
On another note what do you guys think about the card redirect or swerve in the sideboard? helps against stone rains, thoughtseize, collective brutality, bolts/paths, IoK, ? Is it worth a sideboard slot?
Would be interesting if wotc expanded the number of cards you could have in the sb to 20 or something. That would really help alot.
Can you recommend a list? I tried one with 3 Jace, 2 gideons (1 ally 1 jura) and 1 clique, and I did very poorly with it - never had enough ways to keep up with the threats the opponents were presenting.
How do you deal with Liliana of the veil with this list? I find that any deck that can drop her t3 is nigh unbeatable. Jund can rip away counterspells from my hand on t1-2 and when Lili hits they just shred away my hand. She dodges bolt too.

if you arent countering her on the way down you just gotta find a path that doesnt put you down on cards. snap + burn, electrolyze, eot secure the wastes. post board you have clique and purge.
also liliana is bad, but you dont always have to answer it immediately. remember that it is straight card disadvantage for decks that run it, so if you can get an azcanta or jace online you can just power through it. even dropping a gideon is a fine response.
the worst case scenarios is when they have a board presence and then drop a lotv. but if you are being overwhelmed by that with no action of your own then they just had a better draw than you.

jeskai is doing fine. i wouldnt categorize it as top tier at the moment, but i think its still worth sleeving up for competitive events if you like the playstyle and are comfortable playing it.
tempo burn strategies have been noticeably absent from the results ive seen. so it would definitely require some experimentation if you want to push in that direction. maybe check out the jeskai midrange and aggro threads for some inspiration. jeskai has its own share of aggressive creatures like stormchaser mage, mantis rider, rabblemaster, etc. maybe go lower to the ground with aggro elements, burn, and counterspells like remand (or maybe even bounce spells like vapor snag). then bring in grind cards out of the board.

so we havent talked much about dominaria spoilers. anyone have any thoughts about them?
damping sphere is a double edged sword for us, similar to rest in peace or (in corner cases) blood moon. it would undoubtedly help in the tron matchup, but a 2 cmc permanent competes with spreading seas which serves a similar function but less effectively. i think the tipping point for sphere to win a sideboard slot would be how effective the second line of text is in other matchups.
another card im keeping my eye on is Precognition Field. the cost and no immediate effect are clear downsides, but the effect is unique enough to peak my interest.

The issue with Damping Sphere against Tron is the same as Blood Moon. Unless you have a quick clock to kill them they will eventually draw Nature's Claim or Oblivion Stone to deal with it. If Tron/Storm is prevalent enough I could see running it, but if they were around in large enough numbers for me to want it in my SB I'd probably run something other than Jeskai.

fair enough. though what is the sideboard for if not to gain percentages in various matchups? not only is it impractical to jump between decks, but the field is usually too open for that to work. hoping to dodge bad matchups isnt a viable long term plan for success, nor is switching decks unless you own a bunch and have the range to play them all with equal skill.
damping sphere may too narrow, so i think the spell taxing effect will ultimately be the decider. if its a good performing piece of disruption against enough decks then it could be worth the inclusion. on the surface it looks like it wouldnt be, but its something you have to see in action to really judge.

What's your guys thoughts on mainboarding Runed Halo ? It technically has a target in every deck, but maybe too slow or not good enough. I know it's in the SB for tons of lists, but coukd possibly be MD? Thoughts?
I've seen some UW lists run it in the mainboard but it isn't where you want to be in game one with a WW casting cost.. When you're playing in three colors you don't want something like that and cryptic

yeah double white is pretty rough, especially when you also want to get colors online for knot and helix.
aside from that though there are enough matchups where it just doesnt do much of anything. there might be stuff you can technically name, unless its on the table in front of you though you are probably going to name something in the dark or be forced to hold onto it; both of which dont sound very great.
halo also doesnt protect walkers so its worse than a removal spell if you wanna look at it that way.

As above person stated you need to combo bolts, snaps, and electrolyze for her. Also against any deck with heavy black (or red) permanents I bring in Celestial Purge. Some lists even SB 2. Yes Liliana and other discard do well against us in general, but they're not invincible.
i play clique against e-tron. it can snag a reality smasher, and you want to pressure them before they start slamming their haymakers. walking ballista can be a problem though.
the matchup isnt great to begin with, and sometimes you can just ride clique to victory; thats enough reason for me to run it.

Jim Davis misses Day 2 with a score of 6-3 at the SCG. He got pretty smashed on camera for the last round. Won game 2 literally on the edge, but games 1 and 3 were not particularly close, as he had no way to keep up with his opponent's Mardu Pyromancer. I feel that it's a bit weird we can't keep up with a UB control deck. I understand why of course, and how Mardu Pyromancer decks generate value that we can't really make, but still it feels weird.
mardu isnt a great matchup, and it sorta highlights how jeskai falls behind in grindy affairs compared to other control shells.
jace and azcanta gives us game against the likes of jund, but falls short compared to the young pyro/lingering souls/faithless looting/reveler engines. discard is particularly good for them because of their hand filtering. not to mention you have to tip toe around blood moon the whole time.
purge is an allstar. staticaster and jace AOT are great as well. cut some countermagic and bring in all the threats, removal, and sweepers you can lay your hands on. then just pray they dont start chaining souls and revelers if you ever need to tap out.
rest in peace if you got em. its actually good enough against them to warrant potentially turning off your snaps and azcantas.
control being on the back foot versus midrange is definitely odd, i can agree to that

Idk, I played in the Starcity Worcester tournament and played against two Mardu Pyromancer decks and I didn't have any difficulty.. I sideboarded in Geist and was able to just get a lot of damage in before they were able to chain together instants and sorceries for the Bedlam Reveler
