I don't understand why some of you think this set is weak for Modern. There's so many interesting cards (at least hate cards. soooo many hate card) to try out.
I dont think the set is weak. Theres alot of good stuff. I just dont feel like Blue gets any love. Search for azcanta is good for sure.
I am waiting for a jeskai dragon to pop up though since they have spoiled a esper, jund, and naya dragons this set.

I guess if you're only concerned about blue control that makes sense. There are some interesting ones, such as that Mistcaller though. I actually misread it the first time I saw it.
There won't be a Jeskai dragon in this set, I think. They're just re-doing the original elder dragon legends which were all from wedge mana bases instead of shard mana bases.
Is there any stomach for/need for/desire for, an updated Primer? I feel that the core of the deck is super solid right now and the OP could maybe use a refresh?
i wouldnt mind one if someone wanted to do it. it doesnt need a total overhaul since most of the core is relatively unchanging, but it might be worthwhile to include more recent builds.

I don't have time to update the primer so if anyone wants to write a new one, go for it
Word of warning though, you're not knocking it out in an hour or two and I can no longer count the amount of people who said they'd write a new primer and then gave up on two hands
In a vacummn seeing 3 cards is better than simply drawing 1. However the fact that you 'ramp' by untapping 2 lands is game changing when we look at what 2 mana (turn 5 tap out for Teferi and go to 5 Loyalty) actually does.
Depending on Configuration you could also have Snare, Dispel, Leak, or Negate or Blessed Alliance.
To get those 3 cards out of Jace, you have to 0-Mode, and leave Jace vulnerable to Bolt, which if its not the most played card, is among the top 5 certainly in the format.
Once you untap with a still alive Teferi, the game turns quickly as we not only get to advance our plan (Serum, Search/Activate Azcanta) but we ALSO keep up more and more mana until eventually our opponents will simply not keep up, and we can burn them out.
Jace doesnt do that at all. Yes you see more cards, but he's not applying any kind of pseudo-ramp like Teferi is, and bounce to hand is not as neat an answer as Teferi's Tuck.
To me, I still keep a single Jace in my main (2/1 split with Teferi) but the argument is closed in terms of which is better, again, to me. Teferi, given the low cost of our interaction (1 or 2 Mana) allows us to force our opponents to answer something, while we can actively work to protect it at the same early turn. Between Search and Teferi, those are the cards that have made UWR a force again.
EDIT: I mean imagine casting Damnation, and then still having up Cryptic Mana on their turn, on Turn 6. Assuming Teferi was UB instead of UW. It's huge.
Yes, if you are in a position to uptick Teferi and double activate Azcanta, I would imagine that's a winning position to be in.
Edit: My favourite, that has actually pulled out a concede on a few occasions is any combo of Serum, Jace 0, and Teferi +1, on the same turn, and just passing with 7+ mana.
How you side against Ironworks?? I don't know what cards side out and what cards are good in the matchup
bring in anything related to artifacts or the GY. wear/tear, ceremonious rejection, stony silence, relic, rest in peace, surgical, etc. also anything that can help close out the game - clique, geist, baneslayer, walkers, etc. then any counterspells except for dispel. if you have damping spheres those are good too.
expect natures claim, defense grid, and ghirapur aether grid if they put you on stony silence. also cards like wurmcoil, 4cmc karn, and the antiquities war to help them play a 'plan B' game.
remove sweepers, and shave some removal. snare still has a good number of targets so id leave that in if you play any.
from a stock list my cuts might look something like this:
two questionable sideboard cards are engineered explosives and runed halo. EE is a bit slow and doesnt always match up with the permanents they put onto the board, and runed halo can be a trap because its easy to name a card they dont care about.

I thought the only card you would name with Runed Halo against KCI is Pyrite Spellbomb. What else is there to name?
yeah i think spellbomb is the only card you would/could name in the dark. i meant more that bringing it in could backfire because you name it and they win through some other means; especially post board.

on a separate note. Does anyone feel like blue gets no love in m19? It certainly does feel like it to me.

I think you meant to say blue control. As there are some playable blue cards.
This set seems weak for modern, it's mostly sideboard filler except for the blue spirit lord, which might make bant spirits more competitive.

We can have the following protection up.
Logic Knot
Bolt/Path
Helix
Snaps Ambush Viper Mode

Thanks you very much DarkNightCavalier for the Sig.
Seems like a solid SB card for us IMO.
Right now though, I'm not sure it does enough.
