Does the new Liliana have a place in our deck? Seems like she could be useful since she can bring back Snapcasters and help stall out early aggression.
Interesting, I didn't think very much of Epiphany at the Drownyard when I tested it, the opponent choosing just killed it every time for me. I'd play the heck out of Fact or Fiction myself (even if it isn't right to do so XD)
As for Liliana, the Last Hope, I'm really not a fan. I think she would be better in the Blue Jund style with more creatures but if all you are rebuying is Snapcaster Mages then I don't think she is worth the slot, especially as we already have Kolaghan's Command to cover that angle.
Also is Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet ok to play more than 2 of? I know it's legendary, but damn is he a house. Hoses graveyard based creature decks, provides constant lifelink vs aggro, dodges bolt and decay, creates a one sided army in conjunction with Grixis's removal and does decent enough damage combined with bolts, snaps and tar pits to whittle down life totals. I'm thinking of ordering a playset, but he is quite expensive at the moment for all 4 but I could manage to get 2 for now.
I think Kalitas is definitely worthy as a 2 of. I play 2 in my Grixis and Jund decks, and you're right, he's such a house. I've seen Jund players play 3 (I don't know if that's correct in Grixis or not), but I couldn't imagine needing a playset to be honest.
Anybody tried Flaying Tendrils? I have good success with the card, Abzan coco can't tutor the pro-red chick to counter it!!!
I've also got an anti-Nahiri package with To the Slaughter and Dreadbore. I will be busting this deck out, in its all foil glory, tomorrow at FNM.

That is a respectable position. Zoo is nonexistent in my metas, plus I think all of our spot removal never lets them build a board presence.

I believe this discussion has been had before but I'll ask again anyway. Do we have a consensus on the best black wrath is after Damnation? I find myself without any real prospect of getting Damnation any time soon and so I'm currently running Languish. Also shortlisted are:
I have to second Languish as the second best black wrath with Crux coming shortly after. It was my main board wipe before I managed to finally get myself a copy of Damnation two weeks ago as payment for a custom playmat commission. It wasn't perfect, but it did work against Coco, Zoo, and Faeries which are all pretty common in my meta.
With that out of the way, I'm finally going to get around to posting my updated decklist now that I've got a little bit of time. It changed big time since the last time I posted it here:
Out:
2 Blightning - Too slow, sadly
2 Gurmag Angler - Added too much reliance on the grave in a deck that doesn't run Thought Scour
1 Mystical Teachings - It was a cute idea, but it didn't really work out in the end
1 Electrolyze , 1 Terminate - Needed to make some room
1 Tasigur - Experimenting with just one, probably going to add #2 back in.
1 Loothouse - Colorless mana really messes with my ability to reach Cruel colors, even with Urborg.
2 Crumble to Dust - Great against Tron, but it never came down in time, if at all.
2 Flashfreeze - Felt too narrow, needed to make room for other SB tech
1 Dispel - Needed room
This list also USED to have a pair of Goblin Dark Dwellers, but they came out the first week after I tested them because they bloated my curve even more, I'd much rather have the pyromancers just because they're cheap and I can naturally produce a small army of elementals off of them. Chandra's also not included in this list because I've temporarily benched her for the time being until I can figure out how I want to rearrange the deck to accommodate her.
As for the performance this week, it was meh. Went 0-2 against Jund because of hand disruption screwing my tempo and draws over and 1-2 against Scapeshift because I decided to Molten Rain Valakut and choose between hitting Scapeshift or Prime Time off of a Thoughtseize instead of holding up the counter magic I had in hand. Did manage to go 2-0 against Faeries through removal, board wipes, and tempo plays and my last opponent dropped, which disappointed me a bit.
All I really need at this point is to get my hands on at least a pair of Snapcasters and my deck will be good to go from there.

Nice list dude, how'd Grandmaster Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker play out. Did you get a chance to use him?
I've actually been running Bolas in this deck since it's creation two years ago, he's always been a really solid card. Normally when I get him out, my opponents scoop or go all in to remove him. He's essentially a giant toolbox Ultimatum that lasts beyond one turn. It's always kind of risky tapping out to get him onto the field with Dreadbore and Anguished Unmaking running around or if you're against a combo deck that'll go off as soon as it knows you can't do anything. That said, the boss did hit the scene this week when I played against Scapeshift, I blew out both Valakuts on the field and my opponent scooped the turn before I was to pop his ult. Not exactly my most exciting win with him, but he did the work.

I have dyslexia, no I am not going to spell check for you, yes you have to live with the horrors of it.
I think I'll stick with Languish then. I'm entering a PPTQ this weekend and I'm wondering about some last minute sideboard changes. I know I want either Jace,Architect of Thought or Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver to help with grindy matchups like GBx Midrange and Jeskai Nahiri, both of which I'm expecting in reasonable numbers. Any thoughts on which I should play, why, and what other decks they might be good against? I know a deck list would add context but in this situation I am purely interested in a theoretical comparison of the two cards.
Play Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver. Ashiok is very good against combo and grindy decks due to the ability to steal threats and remove key cards repeatedly. Jace, Architect of Thought is fine, but only for card advantage. Jace will not be sufficient in many matchups compared to Ashiok.

Glad to see that a CRUEL Control Thread still exists...
...the old one was Locked and Archived
Anyhoo; haven't been on the forums in a long time...
Haven't played Modern in about 10 months...
The "CRUEL" itch has grown unbearable, so it's time to get back into it again.
Due to a MOVE - some of my Modern cards are still in storage; so I won't be able to get access to them for a few months.
However; I'm happy with this list, don't think I'd change it up too much...
1.) Draw Go -- It's very very CONTROL oriented. My goal with my list is to take down my Shop's Event every week. I don't expect to be attending any PTQs or PPTQs or anything larger. So some of the decisions in my main are based on my Local Meta. With that said; I think you can get away with a Draw Go uber Old Fashioned Control list if you're in a smaller - "KNOWN" Meta. If you're in more of a unknown meta; I would consider a Hybrid of Cruel Control with the Gurmag/Tasigur/Tombstalker strategy along with it. Just my opinion...
2.) Chandra -- So initially I had the Pyromaster in my MAIN; she proves to be Solid on the UP TICK VS alot of decks that have Creatures with 1 toughness. Sure, alot of times she doesn't last long, but she can't last long... If she does; then you ultimate her and potentially cast CRUEL for Free THREE times. Pyromaster gives you a way out if you get Blood Mooned as well. With that said; I opted to switch it around and put Pyromaster in the Side and Firebrand in the main. Simply to cast my spells and get copies... Maybe Cruels; but say getting a Terminate + Copy. Or a Bolt + Copy. The Up Tick again is going to be solid VS alot of decks... And the Ultimate isn't as KEY as the Down Tick is, but it can come in handy.
3.) Jace, Architect of Thought -- This was always a good option, I don't see some running it anymore... but even if you get 1 Down Tick Activation out of it before he dies, it's still a pretty significant dig for a Cruel or some other answers. And if your plan is to just Up Tick him all the way to Ultimate; it's a real threat.
4.) Devour Flesh MAIN -- Meta call... I deal with Boggles, and this is also handy after a Late Board Sweeper to prevent yourself from being blown out by a Raging Ravine or something. Sure, they're gaining some life; but all we are in the market to do is cast CRUEL. Once we cast that first Cruel; generally it takes over the game and you're setting yourself up to cast the next and the next.
5.) Mulldrifter -- Still got this old boy in my list!!! One of my favorite CRUEL Targets, just all around useful.
6.) Forbidden Alchemy -- Another one of my personal favorites for CRUEL Control. Digs deep, and puts things in the Graveyard, powerful tool.
7.) Hero's Downfall -- I've noticed alot of people running 1 to 2 copies of this specifically mostly to deal with Nahiri.
...beyond that; I think my list is pretty straight forward to most of the basic shell.
That is a solid list Mr. Rotten. I also play edict effects in the main; I've been using To the Slaughter to combat infect and Nahiri decks.
Anger of the Gods destroys the new dredge deck, so playing a few copies is great.

Here is my take on modern "Cruel Control" which I have modified to take on the decks in my modern meta which are mostly affinity, abzan, liliana of the veil and zoo decks (my LGS is infested with these sort of decks).
The point of this deck is to "recycle" the instant and sorceries and not to "flash them back" with snapcaster, so instead I am using "Gifts Ungiven","Rise // Fall" and "Kolaghan's Command" to bring out "Archaeomancer" as a "Cruel Ultimatum" recycler and "Charmbreaker Devils" as a finisher. It works very very well when it works, especially when you manage to flip Tamiyo's ultimate.
What do you guys think of my deck? Any advice? The only thing I could think of is to mainboard 2 "Slagstorms" instead and to put "Anger of the Gods" in the sideboard for delver decks and to avoid exiling my own permanents (which are required for the combo). I have also considered putting a copy of "Damnation" instead of "Languish" and a copy of "Snapcaster" instead of "Augur of Bolas" ... The problem I have found with adding these cards is that "Damnation" takes out "Grave Titan" when I am using him as a finisher and "Snapcaster," while a very good card to reuse bolts, doesn't combo as well with "Halimar depths." In the long game it seems better just to get to recycling cards with "archaeomancer", as opposed to exiling them with flashback outright.
As for Liliana, the Last Hope, I'm really not a fan. I think she would be better in the Blue Jund style with more creatures but if all you are rebuying is Snapcaster Mages then I don't think she is worth the slot, especially as we already have Kolaghan's Command to cover that angle.

Crux of Fate: Potentially disastrous if it doesn't work out, but you do get to destroy everything if it does
Life's Finale: Super expensive but if you can resolve it against CoCo you can remove their combo
Mutilate: Like Languish but requires you to Mutilate you mana base
Barter in Blood: Deals with Thrun, the Last Troll and one friend, sucks against Lingering Souls
Black Sun's Zenith: Powerful but really slow to actually kill anything big
Consume the Meek: Instant speed but doesn't kill Siege Rhino or Thrun, the Last Troll
Thoughts?
