Tarik, welcome and good luck next week! Just a couple of notes;
Volcanic Fallout- I hear you, we all hate counter magic. I just wonder, how relevant is 2 damage against the creatures in the decks that would counter your Anger of the Gods? I would probably go with Anger.
Leyline of Sanctity- There's no way you can make it work with Ensnaring Bridge. Witchbane Orb works great, if you have some lying around.
I would also consider a couple Pia and Kiran Nalaar as Well, they're great against aggro, and especially handy against Jeskai Control.
Imagine Storm's graveyard as a sandcastle which needs to be build to win the competition (they have to use PiF to build storm count big enough)
Cage and Relic are walls that you put between the player and the castle to stop them from winning.
If he will break the Cage, his castle remains untact and he can quickly go for the win. If he will manage to break the Relic, the wall will collapse on his castle and he has to start again. Not to mention Relic forces him to slowly destroy his own castle, piece by piece.
Has Thorn of Amethyst ever been a consideration for the deck's sb given storm's current popularity? Or is 3-4x Eidolon of the Great Revel the most that you want to devote to it when attacking storm from this axis? (Referring to cards that affect each spell cast, not things such as GY hate. i.e. Cost +1 or 2 dmg)?
Also, is Signal Pest too fragile of a creature to warrant bringing into this deck for the sake of "going under" bridges and the pretty decent synergy with the go wide strategy? Goblin Rabblemaster + Signal Pest seems pretty fierce.
I have recently invested in Pyro Prison on mtgo and am really liking this deck's community.
I returned, I was in a hurry I could not express my opinion all over the deck, this is the correct list that I will compete in a big tournament here in Rio de Janeiro in 1 week, I would like opinion, I will post the detailed matches, the list goes this way.
I'LL NEED A HELP AFTER SIDE! I NEVER KNOW THE SIDE ..
The list I'm going to compete with is this, I'm satisfied with it, I do not have the 3x chandra
4 Chalice of the Void
2 Chandra, Torch of Defia ..
2 Volcanic Fallout
4 Magma Jet
2 Koth of the Hammer
4 Blood Moon
4 Ensnaring Bridge
4 Desperate Ritual
2 Pyretic Ritual
3 Tormenting Voice
I managed to win 2x1 of a UWR Geist, I did not use the Volcanic Follout, so I had problems but I managed to get around when he made 2x snapcasters gets complicated, so it includes 2x Volcanics for just not being undone, I HATED THE BLUE COLOR..magic was going to be beautiful without this color
the side is as follows
4 Leyline of Sanctity
2 Grafdigger's Cage
2 Welding Jar
1 Vandablast
1 Shattering Spree
1 Ratchet Bomb
2 Anger of the goods
2 Ricochet Trap
The lines is that 8 rack and burns are strong here, so they already help.
Welding Jar, to protect my bridges from destruction (save, can test)
Ricochet trap (undo the spells to take my bridges (Newt, UR, UWR etc)
cheer for me, I would like help as you put it on and take off against aggro decks.
what is the strategy with combos and Junds and UWRs?
4 Caverns are too much. Play three at most. Cut one Voice and one Jet and add 2 Abrades. Leyline is a no go with Bridge as Caligula said. Play Witchbane Orb. Swap Fallout with Anger - it hits wider number of creatures. If you win, sell your winnings and buy third Chandra Good luck!
Some more new faces around the campfire - pleasing. The thorn and associated anti-combo cards are a consideration, rtdeely, but also an impediment for us (planeswalkers/lock suite). There is only so much room in the (60), but I like the slant you're following. If combo becomes more prevalent, perhaps. The Signal Pest falls under the forbidden 1-cmc category. The discipline on (4) chalice of the void makes it difficult, plus we don't run enough attackers to justify the swarm mechanic...really, only Affinity and Gobots do.
Go Get 'Em Tarikskred! A couple more notes to complement Caligula's analysis. It looks like you're trying some outlier strategies/cards. Do you find that they work better than some of the tried/n/true constructions here in the thread?
Cathartic Reunion in an Ensnaring Bridge deck is playing with fire - some folks don't even like the occasional single-card sandbag approach of Tormenting Voice.
Vandalblast instead of a 2nd Shattering Spree seems off as a Chalice will stop Vandalblast and replicate fires through your hated nemesis, blue countermagic.
Leyline of Sanctity is a reach play, and just not necessary. Trust in the deck and how it will assemble
Welding Jar contributes little to enacting a win condition. Like my comment on Leyline, seek the spear - not the shield.
Ricochet Trap follows that same logic. It can be tricksy, but often it's little more than a 1-for-1 counterspell.
I know very little of how you're running the deck, and your personal meta, so I'm somewhat guessing here. 1st, where you're running (4) Gemstone Caverns and (10) Rituals, you've gotta get a return on that investment: (4) Chandra, Torch of Defiance without a doubt. Also, I'd remove a little bit of 'air' from the build, (4) Magma Jet, and concentrate on the building blocks - the game changers. The most important observation: too much defense in your 75.
Pyro Prison does not win with a single, game-ending combo, and we can't anticipate total lockdown every game. Our devilishly clever specialty isAttrition: X-for-1 advantage outpaces our opponent's development until our resources develop into threats that can't be answered. This is the primary differentiator between us and Pillow Fort strategies to which we are often compared. Tarikskred, you don't have a single offensive card in your sideboard. There's no counter-punch, and that's a crucial deficiency. Add the spears, mate! Be aggressive.

Grim Lavamancer sounds like a great sb option against the new humans deck that's on the rise. I think Pyro Prison has the fuel for it to function pretty early due to all the accelerators and Tormenting Voice. *Note that against humans, their only one drops are Champion of the Parish and Aether Vial so Chalice of the Void doesn't suffer too much here. In fact, they only have one 2 drop so chalice might be pulled out all together in this particular match up.
*Edit, Anger is already a blowout for humans so i'd say we are already in good shape. But I figure this guy deserves room in people's thoughts as the meta shifts towards pushing GL into a stronger and stronger position.
I'd say he is too slow and I don't think we fill our graveyard fast enough to give him the fuel he needs. Like with every other aggro Anger cleans the table and you hide behind the Bridge. Abrade or Jet will deal with something specifically pesky like Meddling Mage. I'd go full fortified - getting Goblins and Chalices out and siding in Angers, Torpor Orb (Renegades), Abrade (which I think is a MVP in this matchup dealing with both Vial and any creature they have) and Magus if you don't play him main.
I played a match against this new humans deck, and honestly, it's not even worth talking about. I didn't even take out any Rabble, just swapped out Chalices for Angers. Blood Moon is literally GG, they play TWELVE 5c lands.. no worries
Agree that 5C Human is not a difficult matchup. Because they grow through +1/+1 counter accumulation, they are compelled to spill out onto the board as fast as possible. This makes them vulnerable to Anger of the Gods, Sweltering Suns, Slagstorm. Concurrently, they're p/t growth allows for Ensnaring Bridge to be effective earlier.
I was surprised that there was very, very little 5C Humans at the Starcitygames Regionals. It might be a flash in the pan deck - hope not as I'd love to see it stick around
Should my sideboard Spellskite be a Phyrexian Metamorph? [rather than put up a misdirection shield, why not just copy the threat into a duplicate - be it a lock or a weapon.]
Does Relic of Progenitus answer enough threats? [Dredge is one of our best matchups, Abzan Decks aren't using the graveyard these days with Vizier, Snapcaster Mage has never been enough for me to bring it in, and if Gifts Storm really calls for it's inclusion, why not run the 4th Eidolon which has more applications against other decks? Also.....are folks bringing in Eidolon against Burn and Grixis Death's Shadow still?]

Juuuuust a couple, two, three things bouncing around the old melon.
1) 3 is enough
2) 3 is enough
3) Spellskite
4) 2 copies of Parents are already too many so go for it if you feel it
5) Relic is better than Cage in Storm matchup but doesnt work with CoCo decks so I guess it will depend on your meta
6) I never tried Molten Rain seeing it as a cute and very conditional card but hey go for it if you think it is fine but for the love of God don't cut Ratchet Bomb.
Some rock solid points there, Proxxy. The full sideboard guide is a lot to take in, but wanted to mention to folks that it's fully legal to print that out & take it to a tournament. You just can't look at the notes during a game. I snapped it out after every first game, like papa cracking into the morning paper. Let's just see what's in store for the day, eh?
I now agree with you, and Amok, on leaving the Rabblemasters in against U/R Gifts Storm - just gets über tough to figure out what to remove.
Ratchet Bomb is seemingly a panacea for so many bothers - like enchantments. But, somehow, I think it's a li'l bit fools gold. Just a little? Tokens? That's sweepers/bridge. It's best against Death's Shadow and Burn and Jund. If you're cranking it up 4 times to blow away a Worship or some such, I get it. ....Honestly, you're right - it will stay in the sideboard. I'm just looking for something with more focus and immediacy. Also, you're probably on the right track with keeping the Eidolon count lower, besides with a playset, I'd have to abandon my Mutavault! Never!!
Good night, my red friends, tomorrow is the big day, there's going to be a big championship here, in the last one there were 60 players and I'm going with the Pyro Prison version, sometimes I can write wrong things because the language of you is difficult for me, I did not have a good day for the deck, I lost to LIVE AND I lost to UWR GEIS (tense ..) but it was worth the side tests, even though I always win those games. as it was a day of testing for tomorrow, I tried to use some side and I saw some efficient and others not, I do not own the thing, but I played 8 matches against UWR Geist and I would like to split.
The list that goes to the champ tomorrow is this one below.
4 Gemstone Caverns
17 Mountain

I would like to discuss some comments that were given here in the group, I am not the owner of the line is just a vision I had today playing numerous games against Jeskay for example, last week I did 6-1 with this list some points before: 1 - this new letter Spellqualler do not know how to write, she is a disgrace to our deck .. she stole my goblin, bridge, calyce etc 2 - Goblet for one has not so much effect against uwr, Path to exile? Bolt? when he down a Geist and hit 6 on the next turn is not cool so I added another Enger of the goods, even often the Spellqualer's deer catching the enger, post side I did something wrong I think, I took the Bridges and I regretted . What to put on and then take against UWR? "is it just putting Blood and GG" and if she does not see the same thing happened to me? kkk another thing, I made chalice for 1 and I got 1 heirloom and 1 cage in the hand ¬ ¬ and catching Geist nullifying my Anger and Spell Stag disturbing. My friend, after side I put +4 relics +1 Enger -4 Goblin -1 Magma jet (the punch rolled firm and I got the victory) is just a test that can work with you.
now on the same side,
1 anger = for affinith, tritão, stomp, company that are frequent in the field
3 pump decatraca = on account 8 rack, stomp, aura, tritão (last tournament had 3 top-8 tritons)
2 vandablast + 1 shatterspree = (I do not have 3 shatterspree, so go Vandablast (hate affinith)
2 torpor orb = only I was an idiot who did not know how it plays? ends with snap, spellqualer, other annoying things, goes right against UWRs and company
2 dragon claw = never been able to use, is it worth it ?? I never played against burns, something tells me that they would be worthless compared to our blood moon and calices
4 relics = always useful I prefer them than cage
I'll write down all the matches and results. and put on Monday.
wish you luck
Someone commented, 3 caves is enough, I disagree, I won many partias with her, and it was never a problem, if you come 2 make the exchange, your opponent start me muligo until coming to the right cave, even more if it is a deck control, pecismaos make blood moon or calice turn 1, if it is not mana leack, spell snare etc. I use 4 and advise my friends! sometimes a letter works with you and not with me and vice versa, let's add knowledge
the field is super aggro, to have idea a stomp already won, passed the car rs
Long time reader...first timw poster. Been playing this deck since ray won the titanium event. I've made some adjustments based on all the comments in this thread and it's been nothing short of oppressive. First, thirty mana sources seems correct. 21 lands, 9 ritual effects is definitely the correct number. Also, the mutavault has been huge. Like really huge. It attacks with rabble or blocks to save a planeswalker. So the mana base if 17 mountains, 3 cavern, and Mutavault is definitely correct. As far as spells go, 18 slots are pretty locked. Rabble bridge, chalice and moon (x6) can't seem to be replaced. So that leaves 14 other cards. Here's where the customization comes in. I'm running one flip Chandra, 4 torch Chandra, and 1 Pyromaster, one koth, one pia and Kiran, and one hazoret. Last three cards are interaction, 1 magma jet and two sweltering suns. Thursday night modern, went 3-1. Friday night, 3-0. Then on mtgo, comp league, 4-1 and in the queues 10-0. This deck is nuts and I'm really surprised it doesn't get more attention. Sideboard is customizable, but Ray is definitely onto something with the eidolins. Card is nuts when it's good, and it's not just for storm. Anyway, typing from phone, so sorry for bad spelling and hope this thread continues. Thanks Ray for putting this in the map. Been playing since 1994, so like you, prison is a style that I really enjoy.
Also, has anyone tested with damping matrix in the board? It stops awther vial AND the creatures. Single handedly shuts down counters company and stops the key affinity cards. Anyone test this?
Welcome to the mountain, Russ! Just to answer your question on Matrix; I've tested it extensively, along with Ray and a few others, and the general consensus is.. eeh. It does a lot to help us, but shutting off Hazoret and P&K is tough money, especially in matches where Bridge is really important, and unfortunately CoCo and Affinity fall into that category.
Forgot it shuts down hazoret, good call. However, I find eldrazi Tron a hard match and it completely negates all their creatures to just big attackers, which get shut down with bridge. I might test some. Take out a spyglass for a single matrix. I'll report my results here as well as anything else I discover
Side note, I'll be playing in the SCG invitational in a few weeks. I'm 80% sure my modern deci is going to be pyro prison. So I'm trying to nail down a good 75 for the event.
Still grinding fnm, going 3-0-1 and 3-1 every night. Standard build of 5 rituals, 1 hazoret, 4 rabble, 2 koth 4 Chandra main. Only had tormenting voice once in the past 2 weeks, I do miss the scry off of magma jet, abrade is so-so, but haven’t got storm yet. I lose to burn a lot, I just always seem to draw the wrong half.
Nice job at fnm. After completing dominating at fnm and on.mtgo in the queues, I decided to enter two competitive leagues with thee deck and got destroyed. 2-3 and 1-4. Losses to storm, blue moon, and there's a new abzan list that plays three engineered explosives main. Problems with decks that don't care about blood moon or can remove your entire lock with one cars. Blue moon with emrakul seemed impossible. Anyway, I think this deck needs more solid three drops. Besides flip Chandra and rabble, there's really nothing that comes to mind for three or less mana that can take over a game. Anyway, gonna try again tonight. Maybe something will change. Maybe main deck eidolin. Card has been bonkers good so far....

*Edit, Anger is already a blowout for humans so i'd say we are already in good shape. But I figure this guy deserves room in people's thoughts as the meta shifts towards pushing GL into a stronger and stronger position.
I was surprised that there was very, very little 5C Humans at the Starcitygames Regionals. It might be a flash in the pan deck - hope not as I'd love to see it stick around
CONSIDERATIIONS on my SIDEBOARD:
3 Anger of the Gods
2 Sorcerous Spyglass
1 Grafdigger's Cage
1 Witchbane Orb
1 Relic of Progenitus
1 Ratchet Bomb
1 Spellskite
1 Torpor Orb
1 Hazoret the Fervent
Lately, I've been debating:
Juuuuust a couple, two, three things bouncing around the old melon.
1) 3 is enough
2) 3 is enough
3) Spellskite
4) 2 copies of Parents are already too many so go for it if you feel it
5) Relic is better than Cage in Storm matchup but doesnt work with CoCo decks so I guess it will depend on your meta
6) I never tried Molten Rain seeing it as a cute and very conditional card but hey go for it if you think it is fine but for the love of God don't cut Ratchet Bomb.
Never!!
The list that goes to the champ tomorrow is this one below.
