If any of you are up I'm going to stream some game play in a modern daily right now. No mic, but I'll be typing to the chat. Check my signature for the link,
Any chance you can make a hilite of your Twitch stream? You "past broadcasts" isnt showing up for some reason, so I figured I'd ask if you can do it this way.
Sure, I can do a quick overview, Round 1 was burn, which I won 2-0. The match was pretty quick and the most notable play I made was when I had 2 martyrs in my hand and 4 mana to use. My opponent had 2 mana up, and my life total was low enough where I was worried about skullcrack into untap skullcrack kill me. So I cast both martyrs, then sac'd the first one hoping to crack the 2nd one in response. My opponent actually didn't have a skullcrack so I won from there. Game 2 my opponent had a red leyline way after I had already gained a lot of life, and I started to beat down with hawks and rangers. Eventually I got emeria up and started recurring rangers to beat down with and my opponent scooped.
Round 2 was also burn (2-1). My opponent was playing hellspark elemental, lavamancer, and was making really questionable play lines, like using skullcrack as a burn spell during my end step. I got stuck on 3 lands games 2, and lost noting that my opponent had 8 skullcracks and no permanent based disruption. I had brought in a sliver to be on the safe side, so I took it out and replaced it with a castigate. Game 3 I got stuck on 3 lands again, while my opponent was beating me down with a goblin guide (which was revealing martyrs left and right, but not lands). My opponent also had a lavamancer and another creature in play. Eventually I flip a land to the goblin guide giving me enough to cast the rangers/wrath in my hand (these are known cards to my opponent). My opponent casts another lavamancer 2nd main phase. I then said something along the lines of "WOW REALLY? HE KNOWS ABOUT THE WRATH!" (I said this to twitch, not my opponent) and then cast the wrath and he scooped.
Round 3 was storm (0-2). I got stuck on 2 lands game 1 and lost on turn 6 or 7. Game 2 I had 2 active serras very very early and my opponent stormed out for a lot after I hit him to 3.
Round 4 was pod (1-2). I don't remember much about this except that I won a game with a fast serra and lost a surprisingly close game 3 after mulling to 5. We were both top decking pretty well to deal with eachothers stuff, but in the end murderous cut killed my linvala allowing his lark to put the nail in my coffin (I was at 3 life).
I also streamed a quick testing round vs Shoktroopa who plays mono U Tron. I won game 1 through an o stone lock after he mulled to 5 or 6. I beat the lock by using an orzhov charm to get my serra back during his end step (surprise 6/6!), and using proc to force the o stone every turn. I got a 2nd proc and used it to get back 3 things including a wayfarer which could search for the ghost quarter breaking the lock meaning he had to use the o stone during his turn. Game 2 he won, trickbind is awesome. We got cut short by an 8 man firing, so we didn't test a game 3.
I don't know how to get it to record my broadcasts so that would be why it didn't show up, I'll look into that right now.
Twitch always saves automatically for a short period of time. Should be video manager, then click on the recording and you can make a highlight. Highlight can be uploaded to your Youtube channel if you have one.
As I said above 3W, 2D, 1L.
Turnout was mid40s and very twin heavy.
Sob stories of needing rounds to be 51 minutes aside, here are some thoughts. Remembering I missed every aggro deck in the room, and played Rug twin(1-1, a turn from G3 win), Living End (2-0), 4 col gifts (2-0), Rug twin (2-0), and then two win and in for top 8 matches: Scapeshift 0-1 (1 turn away from the win in G2), and UR twin (1-1, winning game 2 in turns).
Heading into the event I was worried
a) about land- just 23 in my build.
b) that my board had introduced Stony Silence for tron, together with Aura of Silence, and that as a consequence I was short on the boggles match.
c) That Eidolon and Canonist plus Aura would not be enough vs Jeskai Asc.
d) That I was a hatecard short for all the combo decks, but that if I address that I get no chance v Tron, whereas with 3 Stony and 2 Aura I felt tron was more than winnable game 2 and 3, perhaps even in my favour if I get those Wayfarers to go nuts with GQ.
I did, incidentally get a recurring GQ vs 4 col gifts, whittling down from 9 land to eventually just 5.
Well....
Lands- 23 seemed fine. My mulligans were good, less than I expected and often game two based on weak hands vs specific decks rather than insufficient lands. Wayfarer made a difference here.
I am wondering if 24 is better in BW, but 23 acceptable in mono w.
Aven- this seemed, in the end, to be a wasted board slot, or wasted main slot. It was mainly there for pod/shift with fringe benfit of nailing gifts. As it happened it missed gifts, and I had to beat a reanimated Iona the hard way- being on 38 life with a pair of active ascendants and wayfarer helped..............eventually I started proc-ing. Vs shift its chances of disrupting a shift are low with their bolts (another reason to run a second skite), and Halo/Sanctity seem a bit safer.
Wheel- I bought two in vs shift- I removed GP and Squaddies. Wheel worked here- it hit early, and put the gunk back in his deck, made DTT cost 8. By the time he was ready to go off there were Leylines, Halo, Skite in place. Obviously it came in v LE and Gifts, but I never saw it. It is not a stellar option, and was there for Pod really, but I was pleasantly surprised at its impact.
Spellskite.
I wish I had one more. It was not the twin matches where I noticed it, but in the Scapeshift match- it protects Leyline. I did resolve it in one twin match- RUG, and yes it saved me- not from twin but from my Wayfarer being killed after I mulled to 5.
Aura. Just superb- I lost one game to twin because he got to 8 mana and could protect the combo with a cryptic, despite my kill in hand. I kept control in others because Aura makes it cost 6 and bouncing the Aura to go off still allows me to respond with path. It forces them to bounce, and they have difficulty when we have lots of different named things that must be bounced. We can't tap out with a ranger without a Ghostly down. I saw 0 Ghostlies in all 3 game ones v Twin decks, and few in game 2/3. When then happens is that we can't progress towards a win without taking a huge risk- 5 mana min for ranger with mana for path or a Kami. You can't fight them on the stack, I feel it has to be on the ground and the air.
O ring- needed in the main, one seemed right.
So summary- a aven drop for a skite seems natural- even v Pod, Living End, Grisselbrand etc. I like Skite to protect Wheel. Skite hurts boggles so much too, it is such a high impact card.

Ended up losing in the last round of GP Omaha day 1 to finish 6-3, was pretty heartbreaking since all of the losses came at the hands of extreme variance (drawing 6 lands in a row/no lands) whenever the deck was functioning even reasonably the games were quite easy. If anyone would actually be interested in a tournament report I could whip one up, I only got to face burn/delver once in all of the rounds and it was as lopsided as advertised
I realllly wanna build the Orzhov version of this deck but my LGS was unaffected by Delver and is filled with Pod, Tron, Twin, and BGx. Since Tron is the most prominent at my store( 3 Gr and 3 Uw) and what seems to be a really bad matchup, is there anyway that this deck is winnable against it? Or is the matchup not that bad? (I haven't tested at all)
Tron is an extremely poor matchup for both the BW and the mono white version of Martyr proc, our game plan is to drag the game out and beat them with incredible recursion engines that either require 7 or 8 lands to be in play. When tron can just play lands until they tutor up an Emrakul and hard cast it there is little hope of actually winning that game. That said if you still want to give the deck a go, stony silence and Aven Mindcensor do help against tron but be aware that you will have a hard time in those matches

Tron is a terrible matchup, but if you really want to play the deck you could try and build it in a way to have a good tron matchup at the cost of a lot of percentage points vs most other decks.
Its worth noting I am miraculously positive vs tron in my testing, but I don't know why.
Edit: here's an untested decklist that might work in the "mono pod+tron+twin+junk" meta:
Explaination of cards:
Why the mistveil with no hawks? To put ghost quarters back on the bottom to search them out again with wayfarer and stick it to the tron decks.
Why no hawks? Needed room for 4 main deck discard spells and 8 main deck spot removal spells. Hawks are really good in the BGx matchup, but you can't fit every awesome card ever in every deck.
Why is guildmage main deck? To give you a faster win condition versus these decks you can't stall out forever against. Consider running 2.
Why the main deck aven over the main deck wraths? Aven hits pod and tron, wrath misses versus tron.
I used to run it, I had a post on the old thread about why I cut it. I'll quote that and add some stuff here:
"I do love his effect, but it just doesn't do much of anything in most matchups. Athreos's ability is at its best when you are putting a clock on them and want recursive threats. This deck is the exact opposite of a fast clock most of the time. The main principle of this deck is "survive till I can't die" and athreos doesn't help you survive, nor does he stop you from dying unless they are also almost dead.
Delver: Does almost nothing vs Delver
Burn: Does almost nothing vs Burn
Boggles: Does less than nothing vs Boggles because they have lifelink enchantments
Scapeshift: The optimal play pattern vs scapeshift is to get above 36 life and stay there. He doesn't aid in that plan
UWR: They have paths which limit his ability to recur your non martyr threats, he could be relevant lategame here, but doesn't stop them from killing you
Twin: vs infinite combo we don't have time to durdle
Pod: vs infinite combo we don't have time to durdle
Tron: Helps with O Stone, dies to karn and if they have wurm coil he does nothing
The Rock: Scooze is their only out. They can't beat him
"
I agree with this assessment still. If your meta is BGx heavy hes reasonable. They usually make you discard it by the time it would hit play, but when it does hit play you are very favored. Overall he is a synergistic card, that doesn't contribute to the game plan of the deck.
More of a d and t deck (another passion of mine) with a proc engine.
Interesting bleed. I had not thought of playing proc in the core, but I have a similar list, skyknights and all, but it is proc/martyrless ....it is less durdling for sure.

Every BGx deck I've ever played against- every single one- is running Liliana of the Veil, and once she's online and they've got a way of drawing more cards, I'm dead.
Got any ideas for this, Demannic? Remember that I am at the moment still playing the mono-white version.

Well, I can saw a woman in two, but you won't wanna look in the box when I'm through.
Abrupt decay is a really good card which is why I usually don't go crazy with O ring numbers. Back when I was playing command in my side, I was considering swapping it out for a planar cleansing. That could help out if you don't have o rings.
Planar cleansing seems an extreme answer to a planeswalker. Celestial purge seems the best response, though sigarda host of herons would stop the sacrificing, not monowhite though. The discard doesn't target, so something like leyline doesn't help. Maybe fated retribution? Though if you get that far you're onto the proc combo.
