I was building this based on Allen wu’s take on proc. I like the Ptq list I just don’t have the guts to play ballista. And humans is a thing there is one guy that plays it, but has terrible knowledge of wrath effects. I prefer to reveal fumigate and trick them into meddling mage it then reveal terminus or doj. Why I like Terminus is that it can sometimes just cost one or two mana against humans and is just a turn later then hallowed burial. And by the time you cast terminus you should be able to start looping creatures with emeria and proc. Given you hit a land each turn. I’m thinking about sideboard against burn, Tron, control and dredge. I was thinking Resentful Cleric and Surgical Extraction for gy hate I would play rip and relic, but I don’t like exiling my own stuff unless I absolutely have too. I tested the angel last night against burn the angel did wonders they either had to kill the angel or burn me to shutdown Serra Ascendant. Making a 4/4 angel does work in trading two for ones. I ran without a sideboard to get a feel for what works and what doesn’t. Mainly because Resplendent is a new addition to the archetype. I’m thinking Crucible of Worlds for Tron along with a couple of pithing needles
For burn I’m thinking about leylines. I suspect titanshift to show up so I’m siding a couple of children of korlis
I had theese thoughts before building this decklist:
I want good Aggro Mmatch up
I want to be sure to win combo decks postside
For first one I need Ghostly Prisons and Martyr Pac with some single and mass removals. That looks easy.
To solve second task I just used ALL my sideboard space to improve my baad match ups. I even put Hex parasite in main and he was good, though.
After solving theese two task I came to a question - how not to loose to Midrange and Control Strategies?
First I was thinking about Wg with light splash for Sigarda and Karametra but after testing version with them and Brisella came to monoW version. Also Avacyn was a very great addition as "wrath" card in agro meta and great menace for midrange\control decks. To fight control decks Caverns on Humand and Angels were very helpfull.
Also I returned to 2 Weathered Wayfarers for CA engines and way to fight Tron deck in mainboard.

Do you have missed ghostly prisons or ok without him?
Feels like it better than conventional list or just different?
Ghostly Prisons are great for mtgo where're a lot of aggro decks.
I don't really like GP but they're fine when I can divide my ways of fighting diff strategies.
It's just another version. Serra ascendant lists are more like White weenie deck and this is more Midrange\control version.
It's an amazing card against creature decks but a dead card in other matchups.
Im tending towards playing runed halo over it mainbord.
The halo is still good agains a lot of creature decks but also greatly increases matchups like Scapeshift and Storm.
Yeah, true. But it's fine if you can change your tactics with SB cards.
Runed Halo is fine against solotreats like Death's shadow and Valakut but it will not help against Storm bcs last time they're playing mainboard bounce.
Walking Ballista has been really good for me, it is mostly a tutorable removal spell that is also sometimes a finisher (especially great vs phantasmal image too). I have not tried Hangarback Walker yet but I do not think that it improves any matchups significally, it is probably great vs jund and other grindy decks but we are pretty well set up to beat these kind of decks already.
- Ghostly Prison: I have been playing martyr proc for a few years now and just recently dropped prisons from my list. It obviously shines vs creature decks which we are already mostly favoured against (still have wraths, paths, and of course martyr herself) and is absolutely terrible vs anything else (tron, control, combo etc.) So I think it is mostly a burden to have prison nowadays. I have only missed it vs dredge but dredge is not that popular lately.
- Cavern: I used to run a copy of cavern with wayfarer but i was not impressed. We already have proc and emeria (another reason to not play non plains) that are great vs counters so i dont think its needed.
- Surgical: I dont play surgical for budget reasons as its like 30 million tix so i dont know if its better or worse than RIP/ Relic.
I also recommend running the 1 of kami of false hope (I see a lot of lists who dont run it). I think its crucial to basically get a free martyr when you are on 5 mana with ranger of eos. It also helps with infect which is rising in popularity lately.
Feel free to ask any other questions as martyr is the only deck im halway competent of playing so i am happy to help new players out

You can't beat Control with only Emerias and Proclamations bcs they're very slow engines and their fast Teferi\Elspeth can win them game while you're trying to start your engines.
That's why you need Cavern to keep pressing control decks also they're usefull against Chalices.
- Surgical: I dont play surgical for budget reasons as its like 30 million tix so i dont know if its better or worse than RIP/ Relic.
Yeah, but you also can play Surgical as Cranial effect card to get rid of problematic cards opponent has. For example: exile all Cryptic Commands or other 4 of counterspells. Also they help a lot against Tron decks to hate their manabase.
It's an amazing card against creature decks but a dead card in other matchups.

I run proc as my Modern deck when the meta does not suit other prisons, and
I have run it a lot recently. I dropped Ghostlies for Halos, with the odd cast out and O ring to support. I do not run 4 halos as I did Ghostlies though, but a couple is very strong. I run the Fog kami engine still, and really and truly Ghostly shored up matches I was doing well in. My other changes over a couple of years ago when I last gave it a bash are Thraben inspector that seems de rigueur and hex parasite post JTMS. Ghostly back in twin's day was ideal.
Halo is a bit more in terms of flexibility plus storm/scapeshift protection. You can even name gifts ungiven against storm rather than grapeshot and they can't cast it as gifts needs to target an opponent to chose the cards- they need to have their bounce and need to have their cost reducers to win, and you need to not be out of sight on life, halo can buy the time. Post board the canonist and eidolon of r present diverse hate pieces that beat the bounce when you add halo as well. I tend not to board too much for UW-x as the match is often one nil. My oddest bit of tech is that I still have a Karma for jund players in the board.....

People with belligerent signatures are trying to compensate for something....
Regarding ghostly prison, yes it is a dead card against certain decks, but you also have to remember its white and can just sit in your hand to gain life with if it serves no real purposes. Sure it would be better to have more relevant cards, but it's not completely dead I would say.
@Lear_the_cat i've been wanting to try to use brisela for ages and I just couldn't really find a way to get it to work, thalia's lancers seems like a really great addition and dropping the serras makes sense to a degree with all the fatal pushes and paths around lately.
Yeah, that's true about prisons. Same for other situative and white SB cards.
Lancers are also great that they can find Flagstones to make landdrop and can search Avacyn to sweep opp's board.
The main reason I'm not playing Ascendant not bcs of push (it's barely playable for now) but bcs of tonns of discard spells that easily disrupt our synergy and Serras become dead cards.
Just a quick post to say I've finally tried Lear's "Bant Martyr Wish" list IRL during a small tournament and it was plenty of fun although the result itself wasn't all that impressive (1-3).
I won agaist burn, then lost against :
- Ad Nauseam. I managed to win ona game with both Meddling Mage and Gaddock Teeg on the board, but the fact there was no silver bullet against the deck made it hard.
- Thopter Foundry. I won a game by beatdown because the opponent couldn't assemble his combo. Then I lost the following games despite Wheel of Sun and Moon that unfortunately was easy to destroy for my opponent using Abrupt Decay (main deck).
- Green Tron. The matchup just felt horrible, and the land destruction effects weren't enough. I don't often meet Tron in my local meta but boy is it a disaster when I do. Lost 0-2.
The mana felt ok, and frankly the deck is fun. It feels you have plenty of answers, the Spheres and Verdicts make for a great control package... it's just that there aren't apparently enough multicolored silver bullets to make it worthwhile (at least in my meta). I might play it from time to time but it didn't feel better than mono W version.
By the way, I've seen your new mono W brew on the previous page, Lear, and I may give it a shot ! How love how creative you are while still keeping the martyr proc spirit. I can't wait to win a game with a Brisela, it will be quite memorable

Depends on metagame. Overall Solemnity is better but Blessed alliance has wider usage.
