I do not agree with this statement in general. Since Thoughtseize is certainly a card you do not want to have against Burn, we are clearly talking about game 1. Therefore I assume you do not have more than 2 copies in the deck, which is the maximum amount I see in most lists. I would keep a hand including a black source, 2 Thoughtseizes, a Collective Brutality and 3 other solid or good cards for this matchup (e.g. Ensnaring Bridge, a land and a random card) on the play. The first Thoughtseize can grab a turn 1 creature or Eidolon, the second is pitched to Brutality.
edit: improved my English :^)
Obviously you do want to take your whole hand into consideration, however in my deck I run 3 Thoughtseize. So if I have an opener where 3/7 cards are Thoughtseize and I know I'm against burn, there is no combination of 4 cards that can convince me to keep that hand

@Skitz: I highly recommend Production. I bring it in versus any deck with greater inevitability than Lantern, like Tron, blue control, and prison decks. With Tron and prison, I tend to enchant a Needle to go all beastmode with locking down everything, and against control I enchant a Shredder to activate my final form, the Shredder Snowball. In all cases, it prevents matches from going to time and can save matches you otherwise would have tied. The meta is really slowing down with the bannings now taking full effect, so I believe it's certainly time for a switch to techy blue cards like Padeem and Production, and Whir for some people, and maybe even Storm Crow.

I thoroughly enjoy Storm Crow myself, but can't find any space for it in my list at the moment. Honestly I feel Whir is a bit better than Captain Crow.
I do like the idea of Production though. I'll probably go out tonight and pick up some copies of it.
Quick question for everyone. I have a small 4-Pocket Binder I hold all my Lantern card in. Basically every card I have ever tried in the deck is in there and I try to always take it with me when I am planning on playing the deck so I am always able to change the deck's composition on the fly. Am I the only one who does this? For those wondering, including the cards in the deck I have a total of 121 cards in the binder (123 if I add the Mechanized Production)

I do this, I call it my "metaboard". It's just a spare deckbox in my makeup case, I keep foils and rares sleeved and others unsleeved. Mine is roughly 80 cards in size, not including the 75 for the mainboard and sideboard.

It's been brought up a few times and honestly, I love it. I originally had 2 in my SB, but when I cut the 2 cranes from my build, I moved BatB mainboard and haven't looked back. It makes the burn match-up feel easy.
I mean, even though that's not cheating, the metaboard isn't designed for that purpose anyway. It's meant to adjust your deck from week to week, and from LGS to LGS. You consider the decks you've faced off against and the decks you saw in action, and change your build accordingly. Or if you know one LGS has a more aggressive meta, then drop your Crucible of Worlds for another Brutality or something.
I pulled a Battle during my AER prerelease, and even though it is fantastic in the Burn matchup, I found it to generally be underwhelming. Brutaluty does the same thing for cheaper, and also has that Duress mode which is helpful versus combo and control. Or if I just want to kill things, Fatal Push does the same thing at instant speed. What kind of meta are you in?

Finally caved and took the Tezzeret out of my list. Put in a Noxious revival instead and am loving it so far. Picked up 3 Brutalities tuesday night, so they'll be replacing spellskites and pyrite spellbomb in the list. I'm leaving Aether grid in the main though, it's come in clutch far too often for me, and I don't like having the mill plan be the only win con game 1.

For some time I have considered putting together Lantern when I get the Control/Prison itch. Over the past few months I've been getting cards here and there. Unfortunately, I have been going off of an old list as it seems Glint-Nest Care isn't being played much (or at least the frequent posters here are not playing it).
I have added my list below. Is BUG still viable with Crane or should I go move to a more conventional GB list? Thoughts?
Does anyone run UB? I have been using two duskmantle guildmage and a singleton mindcrank combo for an alternate win con in my SB.
I'm also on 17 lands without opals, instead I have baubles in those slots.I have never had a mana issue yet but I'm also using chromatic star to color fix.
Discard (IoK,TS,CB) and counterspells (snare, pierce, remand) and removal(push,GftT) are my MB non artifact cards.
Any cards I should be looking at if I'm using a UB build that are recommended?
Ive been uploading some lantern games the past few weeks. For now they are whole games on X-Mage, so they are kinda long. In a few weeks Ill have some time to sit down and learn a little bit about video editing, so Ill be able to speed things up.
But anyway, heres the link to the channel, If you guys want to check it out.
Took the week off lantern to play some sulti deaths shadow.
Local shop has gotten HOSTILE to lantern lol.
To the point of everyone is on 5 plus lantern hate cards side lol.
Suppose i top 8 fnm to much.
Any way not mucb new to add,
Pardeem has been great, and picked up a foil leyline this weekm
@DapperDane, that's what I try to go for Or, at the least, Thoughtseize Tasigur and force the opp to use their Kolaghan's Command to get him back. We are fortunately able to fight on both that angle and the Bridge/Lock angle at the same time. I also run 3 Ghost Quarter that answer Tar Pit.
3-0 this week for my first FNM win. Will post the list later when I have a bit more time.
Round 1: Death's Shadow Jund 2-0. Game 1 I never saw a lantern or mill rock, but used Brutality to strip his Kolaghan's command, then got bridge and welding jar down, along with Aether Grid. He was low enough off his own doing that I was able to kill with grid, regenning bridge as neccesary and recurring the jar if needed. Game 2 was closer, but I was able to establish a top lock and when he Traversed for Kataki, he misplayed and played kataki before maelstrom pulsing my lanterns (so glad I took his surgical extraction the turn before), so I was able to use my lanterns and aether grid to kill Kataki. I got very lucky this round that he was misplaying quite a bit.
Round 2: BW tokens, 2-0. Landed turn 2 bridge game 1, OP had no mainboard answers to a resolved bridge and scooped. Game 2, he mulled to 6, instead of scry accidentally revealed the Tidehollow sculler on top. He misplayed and put it to the bottom instead of scrying to the top. This allowed me to establish top lock turns 1 and 2, resolving bridge for the concession turn 3.
Round 3: Eldrazi Tron, 2-0. Got very lucky he didn't have it complete. Turn 2 ghost quarter surgical on tower both games, showed me no Karn or Chalice. From there it was land bridge and mana denial. Game 2 was close but he got greedy and went for damage first and dropped reality smasher to get in before bridge lands. I played land bridge next turn and he revealed the thought knot he thought about playing and offered the handshake.

I've been picking up the pieces for this for a while now, and now finally have everything I need to start piloting it at FNM. This is the list I'm working with at the moment:
I agree that the Grixis matchup is really bad, and there's a lot of Grixis at my shop, so mainly tweaking to beat that (if I wasn't eager to learn Lantern control, I'd just be running Tron). I'm thinking the Dark Betrayals would be good here because Tasigur and Kalitas are difficult to deal with with the other interaction in the deck... excepting a Bridge, which can get blown up by a Kolghan's Command. Would probably be better to run more Surgical Extractions to deal with the Kolaghan's Commands? But at the moment I only own one and can't spring for extras.
Anyway, I went 2-2, losing to Grixis and Enduring Ideal (which I had never seen before and probably couldn't have beat even if I had known about it), and winning against Affinity and Elves. Affinity was close because I got down to a pretty low life total before getting a bridge down and then still had to deal with double Galvanic Blast game 1, but I was able to marshall my early-game resources to drag the game out until I had enough stuff to win. Elves was pretty easy, even though the elves player was a lot more experienced than the Affinity player, because Elves seems to have so few lines of attack that it's easy to lock them out without too much trouble.
I'm really enjoying learning the deck, would be interested in how other people deal with the bad matchups like Grixis.
At the moment, I've tweaked my list to include two Thoughtseize to my four Inquisition of Kozilek and four Collective Brutality in order to improve the Grixis matchup. The maindeck Thoughtseize also help against the Tron matchup. I currently only run two Surgicals in the main, with the third in the sideboard. Have you thought about using Extirpate as budget Extractions?
So last Friday I played my first FNM with Mechanized Production in the deck. My god do I LOVE that card now. As win conditions go, I honestly think this may be the best one for Lantern Control.
The fact that if you run 3 or 4 Collective Brutality you can just discard Production to escalate it so it doesn't clog up your hand if you draw it early is just great. How did I not try this sooner?
After singing the praises of Walking Ballista, and now this thing....I feel like I'm the Lantern Control hype-man or something lol
