The Squadron Hawk ensures I don't need as many creatures in my deck + they thin and give me cards to discard. It's a great card advantage when I dont have DC. Plus they evade and carry my sword along with my spirits.
Tragic Slip is too uncertain for me. If they drop a 1/2 creep at turn 2, i'm ****ed unless I can kill it somehow else, but then it's dead. Im a bigger fan of Vendetta, the cheap Dismember.
Anyways - I've played around with this setup now for some time, and it's just really good. It also sets my opponents face on fire from rage when he can do nothing, and when the sword hits he's finished. A great deck!
IMO Vendetta is worst than Slip because it can't kill Bob. Slip is usefull to kill almost any 1st and 2nd turn creature, and sometimes allows you to defeat a bigger one. Also, at least with Confidant and DC, lifeloss is an important issue - that's why I don't run Toughtseize.
I tought about the idea of includding Tidehollow in replacement of O-Ring and DC but I haven't decided yet. Also Hawks looks like a good idea for a budget version.
Bewble, IMO you shoud do +1 swamp, having at least 22 lands.
I was thinking about that as well. But so far, the gift has proved good.
I hear what you're saying though, and drawing one of those in late game 'is' devastating. But that's also why I run just 1. It's also a card I can just discard if i need to.
I've thought about that Darkblast a bit more, and if you could somehow integrate some more Flashback or Bloodghast -like abilities, I think it would be very good. So far it's just the Ghasts and Souls that work with it however. You do get the removal back of course, but netting the gain on cards in the GY would be very nice as well!
isn't it inconsistent to put in the same deck smallpox and path to exile, it's like trying to screw them and then giving them more land.
I was trying to build myself a Pikula deck but i thought, without play testing that maybe Oust is better but like i said i'm not even testing it right now so maybe i'm wrong.
But if you're playing Deathcloud again isn't that better to know that maybe he will be drawing a creature instead of land sooner or later ?
@Heidi At first I thought so, but after testing I saw that it hasn't to be inconsistent. Smallpox slows your op play in early game, and PtE kills a big dude in mid-late game. Of course, pathing an early creature isn't usually good, as an early removal we have slips and blasts. IMO, Oust and PtE can't be compared.
