I am sure this has been discussed but why would we play tectonic edge over field of ruin? We don't have a mana denial plan and we generate lots of mana making the two mana activation vs one mana trivial. Adding a GQ to the board w crucible I get since it creates a cheap soft lock. I just don't know why tec edge would be used

Tbh i don’t have a grafdiggers cage neither a second copy of s extraction! But if i had i would deffinitely play it on the sb.
Grafdiggers on the other hand i’m not very sure if i would, since i’m playing 2 copies of snapcaster md and it is some kind of nonbo (and i can’t imagine a match where i would side out snap)
Echoing truth comes in mind against hollow one brutal early turns, you know, 2 hollow bois turn one or two, and some kind of catch all answer. I used to play merfolk, so the mentality about the card is the same!
We don't have a mana denial plan, but we do have a mana advantage plan. Tec Edge acts as a backup of sorts. If we don't have our mana advantage, then we're basically a bad control deck. Against UWx, for example, we often lose because it's hard to slam a 6-8cmc threat and win a counter war and counter a Teferi that removes our threat in one turn cycle without a mana advantage. Since typically, we can gain more mana through fewer lands with tron, slowing our opponent down with Tec Edge as opposed to leaving them neutral with FoR is advantageous.
Probably nothing new for anyone who reads this thread, but I got an article published on mtgcanada contrasting blue tron to esper draw go that at least gets the deck some more exposure
I guess it’s too hard trying to providing actual content in this thread. I end up being accused of trolling when I’m just stating the truth. I’m not the only one who tried to improve the deck (a mere Tier3 in its current configuration, because that’s exactly what it is) but people like to copy paste without trying anything to improve it. “Shok is doing that” doesn’t mean he’s definitively correct (and it’s not directed to Shok, great builder and player anyway). Many others left this thread because of the same attitude. I guess I’ll take a break, given that my contribute is not appreciated.
Love ya.
I know that feeling, hang in there. People are just argumentative and opinionated about stuff. There will always be people who disagree and disrespect, especially if you do things differently than others. The beauty of magic and u tron is that there are so many different ways to make it work for you and at the end of the day what really matters that you find something that works for you. So **** the haters and do you thing.
I told you guys to remove Angel because it isn’t good in this meta. Lots of complains. Then Shoktroopa removes it and suddenly everyone start to think about it.
I told you guys to improve the Ballista count because it’s too good in the deck. Lots of complains. Shoktroopa starts to play two copies and everyone begin approving the choice.
I told you guys that we should run more interaction in the first turns. Lots of complains. Then people slowly started to play Snare e Dismember maindeck again.
Maybe you should start thinkIng with your own head, instead of focusing on what most people do ^^
i was running ballista and tks... then i sold it for wurmcoils, now im just waiting for the rotation. ballista will always be good for any tron list.

Great to see a blue tron master here! I'm a fan of your videos and watch them a lot. Hoping to see you play more matches - especially against popular decks here in the Philippines - Aggro decks.
Hi All - I'm a fairly new Blue Tron Player and am learning a lot from discussions in this forum.
I'm sorry if I missed this somewhere, but I just needed to ask - have blue tron players consider using platinum emperion over angel?
Welcome to mtgsalvation!
Platinum Emperion is worse than Platinum Angel as it neither prevents you from getting milled or dying through infect damage (angel is one of your few outs in the infect matchup). Emperion also has 1 more cmc, which makes the difference between casting on turn 3 or turn 4 - given that you assembled tron, of course.
Emperion is sturdier against burn damage or Dismember, but the usual artifact hate (coming from sideboard) or Path to Exile do not differ. And you preferably do not want to attack or block with the angel either but rather stall for time or use it as a lightning rod. Angel gets boarded out often for game 2 because of artifact removal and people around here debate, if it even still deserves it‘s spot without infect being around as much and Merfolk having received better tools.
Despite all that, I am still playing good ol‘ Plat Angel and it has saved my ass several times but you could easily replace it with another Wurmcoil Engine for example. Important points in my opinion are to not go too low on artifact count and keeping an eye on threat density.

thank you, I appreciate your insight and definitely understand the fine points.
I've played the deck for only a few times as well and am planning to use it in a big tournament at the end of the month so I really would love to pick all of your brains to come up with an awesome list.
How about the blue mana issue? Is it just me or do you guys experience blue mana shortage a lot, or possibly mull to basically nothing just trying to get a hand with blue source or can fetch for it? I love pie's streams and patterned what i have now from his list a bit, but i also see him getting screwed off of blue sources quite a bit...
Maybe you could put up a list of what you‘ve got so far and we could then make comments on what to improve. Due to different variations, people around here probably won‘t be able to agree on ‚the one u-tron list (tm)‘ that you might be looking for.
Regarding blue sources, there‘s mainly 2 approaches if I‘m not mistaken:
1. Play 24-25 lands, among those you should play ~10 Islands. Then, there‘s also utility lands like Tolaria West and River of Tears, so the Island count may vary. Field of Ruin will also fetch you an Island but Gemstone Caverns should not be relied on to produce blue (unless you‘re really lucky). Oboro, Palace in the Clouds deserves an honorable mention for producing UU at the cost of 1 and that turn’s land drop.
2. Play 23 lands (not sure about Island count here) and compensate with 2-3 Talisman of Dominance. They can ramp you from 2 to 4 mana on turn 3 and provide discard fodder for Thirst for Knowledge depending on the situation. I myself never played using Talismans, so maybe someone else could lend you a hand here.
You‘re right however, that blue mana is scarce and casting Snapcaster Mage + flashbacked blue spell can be problematic sometimes. For that reason you should usually prioritise fetching your first Island over completing tron, unless there’s a big payoff on your following turn.
sideboard is pretty messed up at the moment which i'm looking to sort by finding out more about the current meta here.
I'm highly considering putting in torpor orb though i'm not sure which card to cut.
cut quelch and hurkyls, put ballista instead of filagree. solemn is a better card. if you are gonna play 23 lands you might want more talismans. The deck needs the mana with the non tron draws.
thank you for the input, i'll certainly consider. looking to go with them for now though but most likely i will adjust.
the solemn over familar issue seems legitimately in favor of solemn based on what i see here.
regarding squelch however, i do want to stick with it for now as I've been having great success with it especially against taxes decks or even vial decks which i get matched up with a lot. as for hurkyl's - i guess i should at least cut 1. i would need to keep 1 though since lots here still play affinity, lantern and kci.
I think Affinity is easy even with out Hurkyls (thanks ballista), lantern should be an auto win (you draw too many cards and have enough interaction to kill them, repeal and rift are your friend). KCI i'd just want more counterspells. You are little low on maindeck counters imo but I love seeing the playset of spatials in your 75. If you can get an other surgical i would, I just went up to 3 and its amazing.

@swissrolls i certainly get your point and I'm inclined to believe i'd go up in ballista and extractions as you've adviced. I left out supreme will as well in the main deck which should have 1, so i guess that takes the slot of familiar. thinking which to cut in place of a 2nd talisman or possibly 24th land.
@plaguba didn't know about this card! it looks really good and i would love to play this for sure. I'll do some tests off of it. thank you
So I've been doing a lot of testing an and wondering why many are playing Solemn over Thought Knot Seer. To me TKS has been great against aggro (taking their best card, big enough to prevent attacks), combo (takes a combo piece), and control (taking removal/threat/counter and can sometimes just swing in 5 times with counter back up). Solemn seems decent in the control matchup but pretty lackluster in others, so why do most people still stick with the robot? Thirst for Knowledge and Karn synergy aside.
As I've said many months ago: TKS is good when there is no efficient removal for it (no Push, Terminate,... only Path, Bolt) and TKS can dominate the board (no Goyf, Tasigur, Angler, Shadow, Reality Smasher... only 2/2s, 3/3s and such).
Basically ask yourself what kind of removal is popular in your meta and what kind creatures are on the board. There are certainly some metas where TKS shines. Solemn, Walking Ballista, Karn kind of compete with him over the same slot and are very strong and just straight better in some metas.

from what I've been reading so far, and from what I've tested briefly, here's what I'm going for (for now):
1 walking ballista
1 snapcaster mage
1 filigree familiar
1 treasure mage
1 solemn simulacrum
2 wurmcoil engine
1 ugin, the spirit dragon
4 condescend
3 repeal
1 cyclonic rift
2 remand
3 spatial contortion
1 dismember
4 thirst for knowledge
1 aetherize
2 chalice of the void
4 expedition map
1 talisman of dominance
1 oblivion stone
1 batterskull
1 mindslaver
1 academy ruins
1 field of ruin
1 gemstone caverns
6 island
1 river of tears
1 tolaria west
4 urza's mine
4 urza's tower
4 urza's power plant
I'm hoping to get another copy of walking ballista and most likely will put it in place of solemn simulacrum but for now, it's what I have.
sideboard:
1 chalice of the void
1 ghost quarter
1 ceremonious rejection
1 dispel
1 spell snare
1 negate
1 surgical extraction
1 spatial contortion
1 silent arbiter
1 aetherize
1 crucible of worlds
2 squelch
2 hurkyl's recall
sideboard is pretty messed up at the moment which i'm looking to sort by finding out more about the current meta here.
I'm highly considering putting in torpor orb though i'm not sure which card to cut.

Squelch is one mana less to cast, but obstructionist is harder to “counter” and can be a body to clock or block.
