I played in a small Las Vegas GPT for 22 people today.
Round 1 vs. Jeskai Saheeli. The new Twin. I actually ran this at 2 tournaments and went 7-1 with it, but was on the verge of losing 3 matches to Death's Shadow Jund (got suuuuper lucky) and a match to Revolt Zoo. I will post more details later. 2-0.
Round 2 vs. Bant Company. He had Knight of the Reliquary, but I doubt he had Retreat to Coralhelm. In the first game, I got an early Griselbrand and combo out pretty easily. In the next game, I no Griselbrand, so I'm forced to try a Through the Breach Worldspine Wurm, which gets him somewhat low, but multiple Kitchen Finks and multiple Knight of the Reliquary have him in good shape. I top deck another Wurm and go for it again to win before he swarms me, but he now has the Path to Exile just a turn later. I think this guy mades some mistakes, like fetching up only a land instead of a fetchland to let his now 5/5 Knights both die to the Wurm tokens. Also, he should have attacked with the Restoration Angel since I was at 3 so I'm dead next turn; especially so with Path to Exile in hand. We have a long last game where he stumbled a bit, I tried a Goryo's Vengeance on Borborygmos Enraged and it got Path to Exiled. But that put me at land number 4 and I got there a few turns later. After the match, one of my friends asked me why I didn't play Anger of the Gods after he cast a Knight of the Reliquary with 2 BoP and Kitchen Finks out as well. I remembered the Knight as a 4/4, which is why I didn't do it. But I probably should have done it. I wanted to win with Wurms and figured I could take out some blockers at the time before I swing with 5/5s. It was most likely a huge misplay by me. 2-1.
Round 3 vs. Eldrazi Tron. He got me in this one with a turn 4 Reality Smasher and I couldn't find anything despite my card draw. In the next game, he had Pithing Needles on Griselbrand, then Borborygmos Enraged, but I was on the Through the Breach Worldspine Wurm plan and he scooped when I went to combat with 5/5 Wurms. In the last game, I have a quick hand, discarding Griselbrand and then turn 3 with 2 mana, doing Goryo's Vengeance. I get there. 2-1.
Round 4 vs. BW Tokens. I am paired down, so I have to play it out instead of double ID. I do 2 hands of going to the discard step, discarding Griselbrand, and then going off on turn 3 after I got 2 mana out. These were pretty quick games and I dodged discard. 2-0.
Round 5 vs. Eldrazi and Taxes. We ID since we're locked in. 0-0-3.
Top 8 vs. BW Tokens. He has the turn 1 Thoughtseize this time and follows it with a turn 2 Thoughtseize. I end up a mana short of Through the Breach Worldspine Wurm, but with 2 unplayed cards in hand, he most likely had Path to Exile anyway. In the next game, I go off on turn 2 and fizzle. I save double Goryo's Vengeance, Pact of Negation, and 4 land. He goes for Gideon, Ally of Zendikar after fetching a land with an Auriok Champion on the field. I Pact of Negation to keep him at 11 life and on my upkeep in response to the Pact trigger with 4 cards left in my deck, Goryo's Vengeance the Borborygmos Enraged and win. 2-1.
Top 4 vs. Eldrazi and Taxes. In the first game, he gets an early Reality Smasher on turn 3 after turn 2 Thalia, Guardian of Thraben. Then he has Leonin Arbiter and Flickerwisp. I can't find anything good and have 4 Through the Breach in hand with nothing to Breach. In the next game, it is a long game with Thalia, Guardian of Thraben in play, but I find Griselbrand and Splice Through the Breach on Nourishing Shoal and win. In the final game, he played turn 2 "some bear" that I can't remember and then Mirran Crusader. Turn 1 Faithless Looting. I play Goryo's Vengeance and win. 2-1.
Finals vs. Bant Spirits. Being on the play is awesome! In the first game, I don't have much, so when he fetches (so he can't Collected Company into 2 Spirits to help Mausoleum Wanderer, I go for EoT Griselbrand. It ends up putting me into position to win the next turn. In the next game, I go for turn 2 Goryo's Vengeance on Griselbrand right away. He does Spell Queller. I do Pact of Negation and then I set up for a win next turn after going through my deck and missing a few pieces. 2-0.
I drew incredibly good and made some solid plays. I finished 7-0-1 overall and got 18 packs of MM2017 for it.

are you playing the B/R shoal version?..intrested to see your decklist..
I took out 2 cards in the SB for Fatal Push as a hedge against Death's Shadow. One of the mainboard Blood Crypt should be a Swamp, but I don't have anymore Guru Swamps and the mainboard basics are all Gurus right now.

@foodchaingoblins could you give me a basic rundown of your sb choices against the major archetypes? Also wondering why 4 blood moon? Congrats on latest finish! Appreciate you keeping the forum some what alive haha

basically we have the same mainboard..about your SB choices..regarding shatterstorm is it better than shattering spree? i find the 4cc a li'l too high..and inquisition of kozilek rather than thoughtseize?

I haven't kept up on things. I've probably run around 5 different decks at 15 Modern tournaments this past month. So, take anything I say with a grain of salt. Shattering Spree is probably better; almost assuredly better. It's way more flexible instead of just hating on Affinity and Lantern.
Thoughtseize can target yourself to drop a Griselbrand in the yard, so there's that. Outside of that and a few other situations, I felt that the life loss is too much. I do play 4 Night's Whisper though. I've always felt that Inquisition was enough to try to get the hate card out of the opponent's hand. And my list is also very old school. It took me a while to even more to Cathartic Reunion, but in some matchups, it's just SO good. So I doubt I'll go back from that ever.

Was going to write about my GPT experience with the deck but rather than that just wanted to share a silly story. I was in the final round and win-and-into the top 8 match game 1. I was going off vs a hellbent opponent and I was chugging along with Griselbrand, separating my hand into piles (mana, business, lands ,useless). When I got to 8 cards in the deck left I started throwing lands at my opponent and started to realize I was short lands when I shouldn't be. Then I realized.. I had mixed the "lands" pile with my 8-card deck. explains it all.. I called the loss on myself and literally gave away a won game and proceeded to lose the top 8 birth.
Just a PSA if anyone splits your hand into different piles (I saw Bob Huang do the same on an SCG video).. cauionary tale!
I have never done it in the past, but this past GPT, I actually did put some of the cards in a separate pile. Usually, I just put them at one side of my hand. Nourishing Shoal/Worldspine Wurm, Simian Spirit Guides, Desperate Rituals, Through the Breach/Borborygmos Enraged or Faithless Looting/Manamorphose/Goryo's Vengeance. I count the lands to make sure I have enough no matter what comes up.

I usually put my cards into three piles when I am comboing with shoal. 1 for lands, 1 for combo pieces, and 1 for everything else that is no longer relevant right now. I also do this away from the my library, unless the combo kill is in the first 14 cards I draw, then I keep it all in my hand. Basically if I have to chain shoals, I am going to make piles. No idea why I have that distinction
thoughts? Seems superrrr soft to graveyard hate/permission. I've always wanted to try Obzebat though. I get the value plan B as the backup but I'm not convinced how good it is.

I'm interested in this list, but I actually don't think that the value plan is Plan B. I think that this is just a value deck, there's only one Griselbrand and there isn't any sort of (edit: game-ending) combo, just drawing a bunch more value cards and continuing to grind. It does seem super soft to Graveyard hate though, specifically Grafdigger's Cage seems like a complete beating with only a few ways to deal with it (Set Adrift, Rejection and Fragmentize)
I'm playing the BR list and find that temples are often my best land. Hence i'm going to replace two fast lands with two cycle lands for testing. So often after getting your hand shredded with discard you just need to draw that one goryo or through the breach. I think this will get me closer to doing that.
relevant text for vengeance players but 5 mana is steep. May be a game winner in grindy matchups maybe like traditional jund, but it's unlikely death's shadow variants gives you that much time/leaves it in your hand, and gets countered by everything.
Would rather play Necrotic Ooze to be honest. However, in the Necrotic Ooze version, I would play her as one off, since it is a nice top end and a 9th cheat spell, which can also win through graveyard hate otherwise.
Please don't forget, that the Ooze version has a lot more interaction than any other version.
Greetings,
Kathal

What I play or have:
Modern/Legacy
either funpolice (Delver, Deathcloud, UW Control) or the fun decks (especially those ft. Griselbrand)
Round 1 vs. Grixis Shadow. We both mull to 6. He has a pretty good 6 and discards me to oblivion. He lands Death's Shadow and a Snapcaster Mage that flashed discard on turn 3. I don't draw enough stuff of consequence and lose. In the next game, he has a choice to take Blood Moon that will probably kill him or Goryo's Vengeance that will certainly kill him as I have Borborygmos Enraged. I guess he thought I would play around 1 open mana, but I went for the Vengeance on Bobo and won. In the last game, he has some hate, but I go for turn 4 Through the Breach Worldspine Wurm and get there. 2-1.
Round 2 vs. Jund. He made me discard, but I found Through the Breach in time after turn 2 Goyf was only a 3/4. Through the Breach/Worldspine Wurm won easily. In the next game, he landed turn 1 Grafdigger's Cage and turn 2 Scavenging Ooze, but I had turn 2 Desperate Ritual/Blood Moon. He nearly gets me to lethal, but I do Nourishing Shoal/Worldspine Wurm to stay alive and draw Through the Breach and Borborygmos Enraged with 2 lands in hand already on consecutive turns. 2-0.
Round 3 vs. Burn. In the first game, he mulls to 5, misses his 1st land drop, and I find a Simian Spirit Guide to do turn 3 Through the Breach/Wurm. The next game is close, but I draw a Simian Spirit Guide and I Through the Breach Worldspine Wurm off splicing a Nourishing Shoal. He had Skullcrack in hand with me at 5 life, so anything else wouldn't have won it. 2-0.
Round 4 vs. Jund. He just had Scavenging Ooze and not much pressure and I Through the Breach Griselbrand and win. In the next game, I draw Simian Spitit Guide to go with 2nd land drop, SSG X 2, Desperate Ritual, Worldspine Wurm. I go for the turn 2 and he doesn't have land into Maelstrom Pulse and scoops. 2-0.
Round 5 vs. Kiki Chord. In the first game, I had a slow hand, but went off on turn 5, but after splicing a Nourishing Shoal with a Desperate Ritual, I couldn't find Borborygmos Enraged to go off. The next game is close, but I make a mistake of putting Griselbrand in the yard. He does Surgical Extraction after I fetch in response to his fetch. I end up top decking an Anger of the Gods and then Through the Breach Worldspine Wurm a few turns later and he has Restoration Angel in play with lethal next turn. He draws and ... Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker and that's game. He dies to my 5/5 Wurms next turn if he didn't draw Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker. My 3 Wurms now look at 100,000 Angels attacking. 0-2.

Round 1 vs. Burn. In game 1, I did Goryo's Vengeance a Borborygmos Enraged and hit him while discarding 2 land. He was at 13. In game 2, I kept a 1 lander and lost with 1 land in play as a few Goblin Guides swung into me, revealing nonland after nonland. In game 3, I just basically did draw spells and found nothing. 1-2.
Round 2 vs. Mono Black Rack. In the first game, he gets turn 3 Liliana of the Veil and keeps drawing enough discard to keep me off balance. His turn 1 discard hit my Goryo's Vengeance and I never saw another, which would have been game at most points. In the next game, it takes a discarded Ensnaring Bridge on turn 1 and a turn 2 Through the Breach Worldspine Wurm, dodging his turn 3 Ensnaring Bridge, which he didn't get. I think I punted in the last game. He had turn 0 Leyline of the Void and then a Liliana of the Veil. I kept trying to find a land or a Green spell to splice Nourishing Shoal onto. Eventually I make the mistake of doing a Worldspine Wurm, putting him to 5 life and me still having Through the Breach in hand. I should have gone for the Griselbrand at 13 life, but was scared to fizzle. I end up drawing nothing to Breach while he draws consecutive Shrieking Affliction and hits Wrench Mind after a few "do nothing" draw steps by us both. Couldn't find that creature to take his last 5 life. Finally cast a Simian Spirit Guide and then he drew another Liliana of the Veil and wrecked my hand with those 2 Shrieking Affliction and The Rack in play. 1-2.
Round 3 vs. Blue Moon. I EoT splice Goryo's Vengeance on Nourishing Shoal on turn 3 and he had nothing. In the next game, I play super safe, leaving up double Goryo's Vengeance with 2 land in play and double Simian Spirit Guide in hand. Amazing draws this round. Not quite as glad to have those at 0-2, but I shouldn't complain. 2-0.
Round 4 vs. Aura Swap Bogles. Not much to say here. His clock was slow and despite Keen Sense on his Bogle, he found nothing to kill me before turn 4. Same thing in the next game. I get the Wurm tokens and he can't do much. 2-0.
Round 5 vs. RG Breach. The first game is super interesting. This guy has played nearly the same cards with this deck nearly every other time I've played him, but he fails to turn 1 Search for Tomorrow. Turn 4, he plays a tapped land in Valakut (so no Through the Breach w/o SSG possible) and 2 Sakura Tribe-Elder. I do my 3rd Cathartic Reunion and find Goryo's Vengeance (the missing piece) and win. In the next game, I turn 1 double SSG exile, Blood Moon after he turn 1 Stomping Ground. He gets some beats with Simian Spirit Guide and when he casts the 2nd one, I have to play mine. I end up with 3 Nourishing Shoal and 2 Worldspine Wurm in hand. I use one Shoal to not die. Then he gets a Chandra, Torch of Defiance and starts double clocking me. But I find Through the Breach the turn before the ultimate of Chandra (he told me he had triple Summoner's Pact in hand, so lethal after an emblem), I finally got there with the Worldspine Wurm. 2-0.
I finish 3-2 for 12th. The Burn player from round 1 either faked not being too good a player or wasn't. He did clarify a lot of things with the Judge, which was smart of him though. He made the finals, losing to Affinity. I knew I was out early, but ended up with some better draws later on.

4 Griselbrand
4 Worldspine Wurm

2 Pact of Negation
4 Blood Moon
2 Shatterstorm
2 Inquisition of Kozilek
I took out 2 cards in the SB for Fatal Push as a hedge against Death's Shadow. One of the mainboard Blood Crypt should be a Swamp, but I don't have anymore Guru Swamps and the mainboard basics are all Gurus right now.

Norin the Wary, Grimgrin, Adun Oakenshield (taking forever to build)(dead format for me)basically we have the same mainboard..about your SB choices..regarding shatterstorm is it better than shattering spree? i find the 4cc a li'l too high..and inquisition of kozilek rather than thoughtseize?

This makes me so sad. Every time I find a modern deck I like, it is destroyed by bannings or rule changes now (RIP Twin, Eldrazi Processors, R/G Eldrazi, Expertise decks).
I'm interested in this list, but I actually don't think that the value plan is Plan B. I think that this is just a value deck, there's only one Griselbrand and there isn't any sort of (edit: game-ending) combo, just drawing a bunch more value cards and continuing to grind. It does seem super soft to Graveyard hate though, specifically Grafdigger's Cage seems like a complete beating with only a few ways to deal with it (Set Adrift, Rejection and Fragmentize)
relevant text for vengeance players but 5 mana is steep. May be a game winner in grindy matchups maybe like traditional jund, but it's unlikely death's shadow variants gives you that much time/leaves it in your hand, and gets countered by everything.
Please don't forget, that the Ooze version has a lot more interaction than any other version.

I finish 4-1 and get 2nd place.

Norin the Wary, Grimgrin, Adun Oakenshield (taking forever to build)(dead format for me)Round 1 vs.
