Oh sorry I got the wrong post it was for hoza121 ^^
Thanks for the advices though. I tried to play more chords in the past and I think I prefer the proactivity offered by eldritch evolution, 3 of each seems to be the good spot for me. I will try to jam the spellskite in for some tests. I also think that replacing the 3 oath of Nissa with some path to exile doesn't harm the deck.
I will definitely try the Sigarda as the glorybringer seems a bit like an overkill if I have access to removal maindeck.
Yes i like evolution as well but the instant speed of chord is so good. and I rather have mainboard bolt because it interacts with planeswalker and kills most creature without downside. and have paths on the side for those pesky wurms and the likes.
mainboard sigarda is way better than glorybringer saved me a lot of times. and i also put in a lone fiend hunter to have a tutorable creature removal when i need it.
and your build lacks 4 drops to go with evolution+voice. grab pia and kiran and/or huntmaster of the fells.. it would boost the voice token by heaps..
spellskite is too good. it helps against infect/bogle and also protects the combo.
I play one huntmaster of the fells md, the lifegain is very important in my opinion.
Will also try the bolts md/paths sb, seems like a good formula.
I'm still not sure about the meta though. Is Kataki enough to beat a lantern control ? Should I board in some stony silence or something else ?
if your meta has latern control try boarding in harsh mentor. it is really good against it couple with qasali pridemage plus recurring it through renegade rallier just take out the ensnaring bridge all the time. and let harsh mentor and pridemage do the job.. also the exalted part can let your birds do the damage attack with 0 using birds then buff it with exalted.. works everytime..
So im new ish to the forum but ive been sorta lurkin this thread for a few days and i really want to build a kiki deck but im not sure on what is the most stock version of the deck to start with and tune from. on the front page its hard to decide like what are the benefits of just traditional chord vs evolution/chord vs chord/company from a newer player to the deck perspective?
I have started with a full chord list and was not very happy in the tournament I went to. I found myself often in situations I wasn't able to chord out of. The evolution list (with 3 chords, 3 EE for me) worked pretty well as you can apply early pressure on the board and chord for key pieces in the late game. You have to build the deck a bit differently to have a graduation in your CMC's. Renegade rallier is pretty incredible in this build. Haven't tested the collected company build because I don't own any Noble Hierarch so can't comment on those.
Have anybody tested including a Bloodbraid Elf as a one of in the deck ? I'm testing it but I can't decide if it's worth including...
Have been lucky to be able to play against Jeskai Jace with the Fiery version and, funily enough, one of the cards that was dead in the matchup is now super live: Fiery Justice
Hey guys, I haven't been to active lately, but I'm still rocking Kiki-Chord at my lgs most weeks. Routinely Top 4'ing as I pray on all the midrange decks and inexperienced players.
For those that are newer to this thread, don't put the deck down just because you don't do well in a few tournaments. This deck has so many lines of play that it's extremely hard to make the optimal plays every time. This deck takes a LOT of practice with to maximize performance.
I don't have a specific deck list currently, but I can list out what I'm generally sleeping up to play. Sorry I'm on my phone so they won't be formatted correctly.
The Core:
Birds of Paradise
Wall of Omens
Wall of Roots
Restoration Angel
Voice of Resurgence
Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker
Path to Exile
Chord of Calling
Reveillark
Scavenging Ooze
These cards always get sleeved for Kiki-Chord, no questions asked. I can see trimming Wall of Roots if you're all in on the Evolution plan, but they block a lot of problem cards forever. Voice creates headaches for so many decks it's unreal, and is an alternate Win-Con with Kiki.
The 'Toys'
Kambal, Consul of Allocation
Sin Collector
Orzhov Pontiff
Glen Elandra, Archmage
Eldritch Evolution
Noble Hierarch
Snapcaster Mage
Sigarda, Host of Herons
Gisela, the Broken Blade
Lone Missionery
Selfless Spirit
Huntmaster of the Fells
Bring to Light
These are all cards that I've sleeved up on many occasions for my various versions. If you're playing black and not mainboarding Kambal, you're strictly worse off for it. He's good against almost every deck in the format.
The Sideboard Staples:
Stony Silence
Engineered Explosives
This list is short because our SB is extremely flexible for the meta we expect to play against.
The Sideboard Flex Cards:
Izzet Staticater
Lightning Helix
Unified Will
Slaughter Games
Burrenton Forge-Tender
Cataclysmic Gearhulk
Elspeth, Sun's Champion
Negate
Reclamation Sage
Thoughtseize
Surgical Extraction
Thragtusk
Kitchen Finks
These are all cards that have seen frequent play in my SB. And this is certainly nowhere near all of the cards I have sideboarded lol.
As for the upcoming unbanninngs, I encourage everyone to consider playing BBE. He casts so many cards in our deck for free, and makes Chord better while allowing us to put pressure on. I probably win 60-70% of my games with just attacking and outvaluing my opponents which is exactly what BBE does.
And if you're playing Blue, I think Jace slots right into our deck. We're good at clogging up the ground and Jace gives us another win condition. Jace on t3 behind a couple Walls sounds like a REALLY good play to me.
I dont know if we really want to be playing Jace, like, he's double blue, we already play the value game and the combo, do we need to add death by fate seal to that as well? he's a cool card, its neat he's unbanned, but i dont think he makes the deck stronger. If youre trying to get value out of Jace and BBE then i think the deck you want to be playing is a RUG list with ancestral visions and tarmogoyfs and not a Kiki list.
Just BBE might fit into the deck in some capacity, im mixed there. we dont get any value with it from chords or evolution or angels since we have to cast it from hand. But sure casting a 3/2 haste and getting a free kitchen finks or whatever seems appealing. less so if were just getting a BoP out of the deal but thats the nature of the card. BBE to me jumps out as a better SB card if control match ups and grind matchups like jund become problems.
Jace doesn't automatically fit into any version of this deck, but it fits perfectly into the blue decks. Want to put the pressure on your opponent? Put a Jace into play and then start the Chord train next turn.
If you're not playing blue, I don't think you should be playing blue just for Jace. But I'm gonna toy with it and see how it does, it's a lot of fun in testing.
BBE fits in as a pure value card that I think you certainly consider playing. Everything below 4 mana does something relevant, with hitting a BoP being the worst possible scenario. All of the 2 mana and 3 mana cards are amazing to cast for free. BBE will usually make 2 more mana for Chord which is great too.
jace doesn't immediately put pressure on the opponent in any deck, and our is no exception. jace doesn't have the same impact as it does in legacy, its much harder to protect him. bolts still reign supreme in modern and unless you +2 Jace (the weakest option for him out of the gate) he doesn't survive a bolt. Skewing the mana to run jace doesn't seem worth it IMHO. Jace is good when youre able to control the other players actions (what blue decks do) and being able to filter and dig for the best options at all times. we already excel at finding our toolbox, we have chord and evolution for that, why do we need more digging.
All im saying is just cause its new and cool doesn't mean it belongs in the deck. Jace has to be able to make the matches we struggle with better. I dont know what Kiki struggles with that becomes more favourable with a jace in the deck?
Legacy isn't modern, and Jace is still very good. There's not many decks that can safely play Jace on T3 or T4 like Kiki-Chord can. And that lets us pull ahead. Plus Jace gives us some real game against Control which is one of Kiki-Chord's worst matchups.
I don't understand what you mean by skewing the mana base? If you were playing blue Kiki already there's no skewing to be done.
Maybe Jace doesn't belong in Kiki-Chord in the end, but right now it's a lot of fun to play with, and that's what Kiki-Chord is all about. Let's be honest, none of us are playing Kiki-Chord because we think it's the best deck.
and you know what, thats totally fair, at the end of the day 100% brew what you find fun! modern is pretty diverse and thats sort of the appeal to Kiki lists, its that while it may not be the best it also has game and a chance to beat everything.
Yeah our lists our quite different currently, which is also the beauty of Kiki-Chord haha. I'm all in on Chord currently, although I have been itching to play an Evolution version in the near future too.
Hey all, attempting to shout out and see if the MTGO player "Kurusu" is a member on these forums. 3 5-0's in February with very classic naya chord style lists. Would love to chat with them.
I had a chat with him. He said he loves playing the deck but thinks that ultimately it’s not a good choice. I love kiki chord though. The list is cool as.
Kiki is actually looking very good right now. The resurgence of jund and ucontrol has pushed a lot of the non interactive combo like storm out of the limelight.

This is actually right on point! It’s a quicker combo decks that give us grief.
Hi ! In this context, what would you board in against decks like UW control when you are on Naya colors ? Would you recommend to play the blood moon + magus of the moon package ?
