what would a list look like IF probe was LEGAL. I do not think I'd want to cut anything, maybe 4->3 Sleight of Hand 3->Peer through Depths +4 Probe. I'd be afraid of cutting stronger card draw for free card draw
We wouldnt even bother playing Probe in this list. You don't need it.
It's much more important in the Pyromancer lists as a way to both activate Ascension, and to keep fueling card draw within the combo.

Not just the Tendo King, the power of the Galactic Leyline surpasses that of the Tempa Emperor, No!, It's magnificent power is even greater than that!
Hi all, so I've been playing the deck for a week or two and just wondered how you guys feel my list looks. It's pretty close to what seems to be forming and a consensus list:
The strangest card I play is Epic Experiment which I'm prepared to accept is probably just bad, but I've used it to win through graveyard hate a few times so I'm slightly loathe to cut it...
Your list looks pretty good overall, if you cut Epic Experiment you can play more card draw like another merchant scroll or a peer through depths. The problem with epic experiment is that it is more of a "win more" card, usually its only good if you have enough mana to win the game through normal lines. Though if it is a fun card for you by all means play it, because in the end magic is just a game.

I am having an amusingly difficult time obtaining a Baral, chief of compliance :/, somehow... getting a $2 card currently in standard is quite the quest. It is simultanously in high demand and not worth enough to put on a buy list, stores just don't have any stock. Players seem to always left it at home in thier bulk rare piles. Also Price of shipping > price of Baral. :(, I don't think I have even had an experience like this with a card before.
I guess I still need 2x merchant scroll (was just going to use peer through depths), I own 4 remands but they are in my other modern deck and my spirebluff canals in my standard deck.. so I just have this deck in pieces in my room waiting...waiting...
The deck is being hit HARD by speculators, mostly going after baral and gifts. Our shop has been bought out and the guy who did the buyout wants $5 each for them, expecting that they'll be $10 if the deck spikes a GP soon. I was able to barter him down to $3 each but I still can't find Peer through Depths for under $1.50. I could buy the duel deck but I really don't want to pay $25 when I have no use for the rest of the decks.

Thoughts on playing the 1of revival to open up plays during the combo turn and get a mancer in a gifts pile, and peers instead of remands to dig faster? I find i side out remands in a lot of matches so not sure, its been runnning much better for me during combo turns.
I absolutely love the 1-of Noxious Revival. I use it over the 1-of Empty. It does open up better lines and can let you win with less mana.
I've won on t3 with only 2 lands because of it. I untapped with Baral with a ritual, manamorphose, and Gifts in hand. You ritual out gifts. You get PiF, Revival, and 2 Rituals. You have R floating. No matter what they give you, you will get to cast PiF. If they give you Pif-Revival, you just pay 2 life to put a Ritual on top. Cast Manamorphose. Draw Ritual and we're off.
It creates neat Doomsday-lite piles. Drawing Revival is also fine. It basically does what Empty does, lets you win with less mana, but there's no passing the turns and it has better utility overall. For G1s, I love it. It does get boarded out depending on the matchup, but it's been great. And as you mentioned, it does let you gifts for a mancer. Baral-Electromancer-Revival-(whatever you're missing. Depends on your hand). They'll just give you both the mancers. That's fine. It doesn't come up much, but when does, it's a game winner.
I also side out Remands a ton. I still am okay with the card. It's been pretty useful against midrange/control type decks. I also like it against Tron. On the draw, I tend to go down to 0-1 against most decks. On the play, 1-3. Depends on the matchup. Anything very aggressive and I just board it out all together. It has still been useful enough in G1s and on the play so I won't get rid of it all together. Although if you have a lot of affinity or aggro decks in your area, just meta the deck and cut the Remands all together. But in a blind, I still like it enough to keep it.
Guys, explain please. Why do you put 2 copies of Grapeshot into the deck? Mrfrenchy played with one and quite successfully. And put Echoing Truth in a free slot, which is easy to find with Merchant Scroll. Do we always need 2 copies of Grapeshot?
I've sometimes found getting to 20 storm can be a challenge (normally when under heavy disruption and a fast clock of some kind) so being able to get to 10 and then cast two Grapeshot is a nice out that. In addition there are cards like Thought-Knot Seer and Tidehollow Sculler which can force you into the Empty the Warrens path if you only have one Grapeshot, and sometimes that just won't cut it.
I've found that normally my first grapeshot gets put in the yard, so even though I get one hit by flashing it back with PiF, as Manatee said storm 20 is hard, whereas "grapeshot 9, Past in Flames 10, Grapeshot 11" is much easier to get to.
Also is anyone else scared of bans today?

I feel that merchant scroll is not the best card to play, for the sheer fact that it can only fetch blue instants - which is only remand or gifts ungiven in the main. It's okay as a setup if you'd otherwise whiff, but I think peer through depths gives you a lot more options. I certainly wouldn't play 4 scroll.

I think you want to play some number of Scrolls (probably 2) before you put any Peers in the deck. Getting Gifts is sufficiently important that I think we need some Scrolls.
I just 5-0ed a league with 2 Peer, 1 Scroll. (Also super excited because this is my first 5-0!) Peer was an absolute ALL STAR. There were a couple times where without it I never would have been able to go off. The fact that it can hit your rituals and finishers (empty/grapeshot) is clutch. I played around a surgical by using peer to find the pieces naturally.
This is probably all jank, but is there any merit to running 3x empty and maybe one extra past in flames in the main? My thought is to make the deck more threat dense against discard decks (DSJ in particular, where making 8-10 goblins on turn 2 can punish them losing 5-7 life on the first turn) and to go under aggressive decks, especially those running eidolon. I see this strategy in a fair amount of sideboards but I like the idea of it in the main since a majority of the fair decks are all spot removal/discard and threats in game 1.
Thinking about picking up the pieces to this deck since all the main parts minus the lands are so affordable right now. I've never had the pleasure of casting gifts and would love to start.
Peer through depths/merchant scroll seem to be flex slots, where most people seem to know they need more dig. Is izzet charm a consideration? I know it's worse at digging and doesn't get discounted by your dorks, but it does add a lot of extra utility in killing hatebears and countering chalice/discard.
I don't think izzet charm has a place over peer/dig, it doesn't go nearly deep enough.
The biggest thing I think we got from amonkhet was not getting banned (not that I expected we would, but you never know with wotc and this deck). I don't think there are really any cards in the set we care about.

Have you read Peer Through Depths? It doesn't require the instant/sorcery card to be blue.
