fetchlands rather to make sure you can fetch any color since all my fetches can look for plains and all my shocks are half plains, i found that paying 1 to 4 life is definitely worth it to have all your colors consistently and untapped. After all, you only need 1 basic for the borderposts. if i would use them to thin, i'd rather just play evolving wilds and terramorphic expanse.
Instead of discovery//dispersal i run supreme will, which gives you the edge against control (with the mana leak option), while it can dig deeper in your deck than discovery//dispersal does. i know it costs 3 mana, but the first two turns im busy playing my borderposts, suspending a gargadon or casting a 3 mana spell on turn 2 due to simian spirit guide.
I usually use detention sphere when i feel like i should hold on to my balance an extra turn or if i don't have balance in hand. In both situations it does the job better than beast within. Downside is that it's not at instant speed and it doesn't deal with tron lands, fortunately tron is a very favorable match-up. Another upside of the sphere is that it exiles stuff and it exiles all copies of the card you target, which is a significant difference when facing e.g. phoenix (the current nr 1 meta deck)
Y’know what? Let’s talk more about Gideon. He’s been one of those cards that I just kinda nodded at the inclusion and seeing in the list, but I want to analyze him a bit more.
Being double white and three mana means that 1. We can include him in all lists except UR EB; and 2. He puts us a bit harder in white, which hurts the ElectroBalance build a bit more (due to the necessities of cantrips and double red, double white on turn 3 is a tall glass of water).
He both stalls and acts as a wincon, two important synergies. He’s powerful against several different archetypes and can stall long enough to Balance and hit the opponent after a balance.
The issue is that playing him sacrifices dig effects. He doesn’t grant card advantage and he takes a slot that could. While this may seem minor, we pilot a deck that is dependant on casting one particular spell. Because of this, I recommend Gideon only for cascade variants of the deck. Because the cascade variant is only reliant on drawing a cascade spell, Gideon’s lack of card advantage doesn’t hinder the deck as much as EB, which required two pieces. That being said, I can still see him being played as a two-of in the sideboard for matchups like Death’s Shadow and Burn, where the stalling could be worth more than card advantage.
There is no white card equivalent to Kari-Zev's Expertise right? I've tried searching but I didn't see anything white that would let us cast Restore Balance directly.
I've thought about putting Gideon into the EB lists but like epoa I decided that the mana would be too difficult. I think that splashing white for Nahiri is viable but needing WW, RR, and UU in the same deck is too much to ask.
Haven't played this deck regularly for years (Cascade version). Looking to shift to Electrobalance and run this at FNM in a week. Curious on some feedback from your personal experiences. You'll notice I'm going quite deep into combo consistency over raw power.
I think that 3 Mission Briefings are too many, that card seems like a 1-of in the main and another 1 in the side at most. Echoing Truth seems highly situational, but you know your local meta. If you're playing against dredge and hollow one fairly frequently it seems great, but it could be a dead card in a lot of matchups. I might swap it out for an abrade in the maindeck instead. 2 JTMS might be a bit greedy as well but I can see it being fine, personally I am on only 1 Chandra and it feels good.
I would put something like Dragon's Claw or Leyline of Sanctity into the sideboard to shore up the burn/mono red phoenix matchup. Right now I think that they just go faster than you and there isn't much you can do to slow that down unless you have restore balance.
Good call out for the “red deck wins” matchups. I’ll definitely adjust on that front.
What have you disliked about Mission Briefing? I’ve loved how it digs up to two deep and repeats a spell (I’ve loved casting the suspend cards from the graveyard with As Foretold).

Current Decks:

Modern Warp / UR Control / UR Storm / Naya Breachshift / ElectroBalance
Legacy
Solidarity / Lands / Sneak and Show / Grixis Delver / Reanimator / Belcher / Storm / Dredge
I've felt that the situations when it is good are fairly limited, usually casting Restore Balance and As Foretold from the graveyard when you have As Foretold out. When it isn't doing that, you're basically flashing back an Opt or a Serum Visions for UUU. I don't run Azcanta in my list though so that could be the missing piece that clicks everything together. It's a flashy play that feels really good doing but I don't think that it's better than having a mainboard Abrade to hit chalice or a mana dork.
I think that it's a really valid sideboard card for something like Dredge or Hollow One that you know will have recursive threats, or a matchup like Jund/GB Rock that will be grindy and probably involving you discarding a lot of your cards.
Mission Briefing is best after the first balance and usually dead beforehand. I used to run 3, but eventually cut down to 1 main 0 side. I wouldn’t cut it, but I also wouldn’t add more.
I like the Echoing Truth. Bounces Phonixes, Holloweds, everything in dredge, Chalices, etc. Why not run any more in the board?
Wanted to try out supreme will is it good enough?. How necessary is Leyline of Sanctity in the SB for Burn and GBx? Is Lightning Bolt good MB card to deal with Planeswalkers and small creatures G1 or should we just lean on a quick Balance?
This is how I've been playing the deck and I really like the feel of it. It's good enough to win at the fnm lvl. Liliana is a real beast when combined with the rest of the deck, add some collective brutality for flavour and black is my choice for a 3rd color. I'm trying to fit in a 3rd mission briefing but so far i've not made up my mind what to cut for it.
Notes:
- right now i'm not facing opponents who play a lot of planeswalkers. If I see more of them I'll start adding some lightning bolts
- personally i believe that everybody should play 4 ancestral visions it really is that good
- the white sb is good but the black sb options aren't bad either
These were my 2 cents. Thanks everybody and keep up the good work!
Seems pretty cool to me. Not only it can recast Ancestral Vision and Restore Balance,
while playing the deck i sometimes found myself in a situation where I would really like
to have a Snapcaster effect, to recast something like echoing truth or abrade.
I think the list i will try will be something like this:
Not sure if the charms are just bad. Theoretically while beeing counter and removal, they enable
to cast the first balance via finale of promise. But perhaps i will end with only 1 Finale of Promise
and better cards for the charms. I really would like the get at least 1 Search for azcanta in the
list. As you can see its an work in progress list..
Hi guys, I have been playing with this deck since the inclusion of electrodominance. With the new spoilers Finale of Promise I think we.can swap Sleight of Hands for the well known Faithless Looting. A one mana cantrip that allows us to set our GY up for FoP. Ill cutx2 Mission Briefing + x4 Sleights and add them (x3 FoP and x3 Faithless)
After testing with 2 Jace the Mindculptur and 4 Gargadon as Win con, i came to the point, that i am not really happy with the planeswalker and instead of casting a jace and balance i would prefer to get rid of all lands by saccing them to gargadon and quickly end the game. To accomplish this, i decided, to include gifts ungiven im the deck. With the release of finale of promise we could build some really nice piles.

Couple off As Foretold can help a lot, by only playing 3 RB it will hurt extra to draw one and only be able to cascade twice.
I want to try Gideon of the trials too, haven't read much about him since I started lurking here.

I haven’t seen many new toys for he cascade version recently. Dovin, Hand of Control, maybe?
