Welcome back to the wonderful world of Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle. I also have played a lot of that card, including RUG Shift for 3 months straight many eons ago. I haven't played it for a while, but I probably would try Breach for a bit. The main issue is that I know how to play Titanshift very well, but Breach is one I haven't played quite as much or had feedback from Grinders on much.
Indeed. There was a short while when breach was all the rage, but it's been off the radar for ages.
Let's see how it goes 😊

My favorite time with RG Breach was when most people played UR Treasure Cruise Delver or Rhino Pod. RG Breach just AAAATE those decks for lunch, having 4 Chalice of the Void main, 4 Anger of the Gods main, 4 Obstinate Baloth main, and a powerful clock. I think I almost never lost to those decks with RG Breach. Not to mention, the deck was okay vs. the rest of the meta, even if Affinity was a bit shaky.
Outside of that time, I've mostly just played Titanshift. I'm more comfortable with that.

It feels like a very good matchup. G1 I went to 8 infect counters and did Scapeshift for 18. G2 I kept a hand with Anger of the Gods. He spitted his hand and turn 3 my Anger took a Glistern Elf, a Noble Hierarch and a Dryad Arbor. Then I just holded the pressure with BBEs and a Huntmaster of the Fells to close the game.
Round 2 vs. Eldrazi Tron (2-0)
G1 opp made Reality Smasher turn 3 and nothing else. I continued my ramp plan and getting the damage from Smasher to end the game with a huge Scapeshift. G2 he came a bit more agressive with Walking Ballista, Reality Smasher and Basillisk Collar. Opp spent his Warping Wails on my Farseeks, but it just delayed me. At 6 mana I made Summoner's Pact for Primeval Titan. He shooted it with Ballista + Cloak, but I already had enough lands for a Scapeshift for 54.
Round 3 vs. Dredge (2-1)
G1 we mulliganed to 6. I had a non-interactive hand, but I kept it hoping he weren't fast enough. I was wrong. G2 BBEs did all the job and Primeval Titan just came to put an end. G3 opp mulliganed to 5 and I had a solid hand.
Round 4 vs. Burn (1-2)
G1 I mulliganed to 6 with a really poor hand and I was crushed by tons of Rift Bolts and Boros Charms. G2 I topdecked a Scapeshift at the right moment. G3 I tried to keep my life as high as possible (obviously!) and pressed him with a turn 3 Obstinate Baloth. He did what burn does and led me to 8 life with an eidolon on the battlefield and 1 card in hand (I had the baloth and 5 lands on the battlefield. My hand was: Scapeshift, Anger of the Gods, Primeval Titan, Abrade, Search for Tomorrow). My strategy line was kill eidolon, ramp and hope e doesn't draw a burn spell. But he did. 2 Lightning Helix were enough.
Well, ended the modern night 3-1 and some credits as prize. I'm pretty happy with the deck. It fells very solid against the decks of my meta. Its weakness are combos and decks heavy based on disruption.
This is the decklist:
Good finish, nice list. I used to have 3 Bloodbraid Elf in the main, now I moved them to the sideboard for midrange / control matchups. To adress some things :
1) Against discard, I guess our best option is simply redundancy : having 4 Primeval Titan, 4 Scapeshift and bringing in some more threats to overcome any discarding situation.
2) Against combo, we have to go faster and tune the sideboard. Storm is very unfavorable unless we have Relic of Progenitus / Damping Sphere combined with Lightning Bolt to shoot down their mana dork. Same thing for KCI : Abrade and Reclamation Sage are clutch cards. Ad Nauseam is unwinnable (when I was playing Ad Nauseam, I remember that the best matchup easily was Scapeshift and Tron).
Congratulations. Actually, Infect is usually a tough matchup. I think your draws just lined up with his well, including you not dying on turn 2 or 3 with protection up.
Valakut does indeed struggle with Combo, but disruption … not so much. Valakut does very well vs. Jund and the like, due to its redundancy. The only deck in my opinion that is more redundant than Titanshift is Tron.
*I actually do want to play Carnage Tyrant in the SB of Titanshift; I just can't justify paying that price for a card that will be $5 at rotation.

Also how much do u guys think Carnage Tyrant is going drop after rotation. I don't want to pick one up and regret it because it sunk like a rock
I loved Carnage Tyrant in TitanShift, when I played it. I would not play without it. And since there are a good time, until the card will get out of Standard, I would trade/buy one.
Yeah it will be less worth when it's not in standard. But few money vs lot of fun with the card? Magic is a hobby.. A hobby cost money, but you get a lot of fun time for that money
I even play the card in the sb of my BreachTitan deck, so I have backup plan vs Surgical effects.

Hey Afifthofjack how you doing? Stomping Ground is a 4-of. If you are using 2 for budget issues, that's ok, but the next investment I'd make would be +2 Stomping Grounds for sure. On the other hand, 4 Cinder Glade is too much. Some initial 7 may be tricky when you have 1 Cinder Glade, 1 Valakut and some ramps. I think 4 Explore is too much because it's the less reliable ramp of the deck. Explore is awesome in T2 or T3 when you're sure that you have the second land drop, but in mid and late game it starts to become less effective. Khalni Heart Expedition is a good replacement or a 2-2 split. I've tried Khalni Heart Expedition and it seems to be a really strong card as much mid as late game. Summoner's Pact is a card you NEED. It can save you allied with Reclamation Sage main deck and finish the game with Primeval Titan, or even Sakura-Tribe Elder (I've done this a lot of time). In a world of phoenixes and dredges I would exchange at least 2 Sweltering Suns for Anger of the Gods (keep 1 Sweltering Suns to dodge Meddling Mage, but it depends on your meta). Certainly Carnage Tyrant is going drop like a stone after rotation (take Deathmist Raptor as an example). So for now I'm using Gaea's Vengeance.
I'm doing pretty good, hopefully ur doing well. I'm running more glades over stomping grounds because I feel like they are most likely coming untapped without having to pay life with fetches. Stomping grounds I feel is a must for early game though that's y I went with 2. That's my biggest worry. I feel like carnage tyrant after rotation is going to be like 10 to 15 bucks as compared to 35 currently. Granted he is a huge beat stick
Sorry, it's been a while guys. Is this where we post questions and other info on RG Breach as well? I have started to believe that Breach is actually a better meta call right now and want to start testing it. If it doesn't work out, I can always fall back on Titanshift for the Los Angeles Magic Fest.
For what it's worth, here's a list I'm looking at.

So I ran the deck at a 26 person FNM. Made some serious mistakes, namely in Round 2. The deck performed well though.
Round 1 vs. Temur Vannifar. I played essentially this deck last week against Breach and lost in 2 super quick games. This time, I have turn 3 Breach, but Woodfall Primus to bust up 2 lands. So instead of killing him if I had Primeval Titan, I just double Stone Rain and have a 5/5. He replays more lands and all I can do is leave a fetchland open with active Valakut to potentially nab a Kiki-Jiki. But he taps for Spellskite, then gets the Kiki-Jiki combo. Got me! In the next game, I don't have burn for his creatures, but I have him dead on turn 5. He kills me on his turn 4. 0-2.
Round 2 vs. Value Town. Terrible play including siding out 1 Valakut. Lol. That may turn out to be the biggest meme that I've signed up for in quite a while and that's saying a lot! I win the first game, grinding through a bunch of Path to Exiles. In the next game, I do turn 2 Anger of the Gods to wipe up 3 mana dorks. He gets there in the long game after Pathing my Titan, then finding all the Ghost Quarter action. His creatures are better than mine then. This was a pretty sad game. The next game is similar and I forget to SIDE IN MY 4th VALAKUT. I don't know what I was thinking, other than I was a bit tipsy from some Hennessey Cognac. I end up getting there late game, cracking a million clues, then Anger of the Gods on his board when Elspeth, Sun's Champion was about to ultimate, and having Relic of Progenitus to make sure the Knight either dies or taps to save itself, allowing a lethal attack from an 8/7 Tracker. He scoops because he does NOT have the 4th Path to Exile. 2-1.
Round 3 vs. RW Norin Sisters. Champion of the Parish into Thalia's Lieutenant, but it slows down. I Breach a Titan and wipe his board, except a single Soul's Attendant. I am at 4 life. He draws and plays Impact Tremors. I'm not sure why he likes this card, but he actually has killed me with it before. I do another Titan next turn to go with a Search for Tomorrow for lethal. In the next game, I Abrade a Ajani's Pridemate after a Soul Sister bumps it to 3/3. He doesn't have much more gas and I am free to land a Tracker, then Reclamation Sage off Summoner's Pact to kill Ghostly Prison. Then I play some Titans. Still had another Titan AND Woodfall Primus in hand. GAS. 2-0.
Round 4 vs. Zoo. Turn 1 Noble Hierarch. He does turn 2 Gruul Spellbreaker, then another one the following turn; both with Haste. I get Through the Breach to wipe most of his board, then finish him with Prime Time into ramp. In the next game, he does Wild Nacatl. Then he does another one, but doesn't have any more gas. I block one with Sakura-Tribe Elder, then Anger of the Gods. Then he does Huntmaster of the Fells, but I Abrade it. Then I have all of the bigger creatures like Tireless Tracker, then Prime Time. He scoops when his board is decimated. 2-0.
I finish 3-1, which was nice, despite my terrible efforts in Round 2. Outside of that, I played pretty good, even if my sideboarding could have been better. (it's not my fault; none of the decks were on Becky Adlman's SB guide.)

Considering getting back into MTGO with this deck. Looking at the version in 4th from the GP Toronto. It's only 89 tickets and seems to be doing well. No idea how to sideboard or anything. Any suggestions on what list to start with and a quick sideboard guide? Most of the sideboard cards seem self explanatory for certain matchups except tireless tracker, that for control also? What cards usually come out first? Thanks!
This is perfect, thank you! The one article in the link that shows a quick in/outs for each matchup is exactly what I needed while I figure the deck out. I've played against it plenty of times, but never actually played it myself. Bought all the cards last night and gonna give it a spin tonight.
Thanks, the article is great!!!!,one question, Tireless Tracker versus what decks is good? Only control and midrange decks?? Combo decks, for example: Ad nauseam, amulet Titan,is good the Tireless Tracker?
