I have been playing Genesis Wave for a few months (see my last several posts) and loving it! I have been really happy with it. One thing I can say is Tireless Tracker has been really strong with Wave for sure...but mine is a little more combo centric...
I love DGOMEZ4’s list though :). I gotta get a Woodland Bellower in my list immediately!
Trinisphere, did tou guys tested this one?
I play 2 in Ponza and is always good.
I have played it in multiple metas in the past and there are times it is incredible. I may have to give this a try again soon. It can be difficult in a list like mine (that plays a little lower curve with more card draw and sinks); butbin lista that kinda go straight up the curve it is really strong.
After last years second place with T&N, I decided to fire up the same deck again for this years PPTQ's. Yesterday was the first one and managed to get into the top 8.
The matchups: (the sideboard notes are all from my head, so might nog be the best)
Round 1: Lantern Control.
Well bollocks. Didn't get off to a good start and got locked out both games.
Boarded in the Burn spells, Ancient Grudge and Ruric Thar. It just didnt work out all game.
0 - 1
Round 2: Bridge from below
Game 1 he did his thing, made a bazillion zombies and pummeled me to death. Boarded in the burn spells and the Grafdigger's Cage.
Game 2 my opponent had a great start again, but since I was on the play, I was able to bonfire myself on turn 3, killing my own Birds of Paradise to exile 2 Bridge from Below from my opponent's graveyard and take over the game from there. Game 3 my opponent had a slow hand and took an Emrakul to the face on turn 4.
1 - 1
Round 3: Ponza, oh boy.
I did not know what this person was playing. Game 1 he started off with a Arbor Elf and a Forest. I did the same on the draw. Turn 2 my forest was stone rained. I returned my turn with another forest and another Arbor Elf. Turn 3, another stone rain, a Breeding Pool from me, with a Utopia Sprawl on it. Untapped it twice to put a Kiora on the battlefield. Turn 4, a Tireless Tracker from my opponent. I untapped, made 10 mana with my 1 land and threw an Emrakul to the face of my opponent. Very lucky escape there, and my opponent did not enjoy it at all.
Game 2 I got Inferno Titan'ed and lost quickly. Game 3 I had a great draw and got a T&N out at turn 3. Lucky escape there tbh.
2 - 1
Round 4: Bant spirits.
Game 1 I got overwhelmed with spirits. Game 2 I had a well timed Bonfire of the Damned when he could not respond with a Coco due to my turn 1 Cage. Game 3 I slowed my opponent down a lot with turn 3 Dragonlord Atarka, with immediatly got pathed, but gave me enough tempo to play around the Spell Quellers and combo out (played a Voyaging Satyr first with my opponent instantly Spell Quellered and gave me a window to play my Kiora).
Boarded in the Ruric Thar, Bonfire and the Cages. Also Blood Moon on the play, and Spell Pierce on the draw I think.
3 - 1
Round 5: Abzan
10 points was enough for us both, so we IDed. I got myself a walk around the city and bought an apple and some drinks.
3 - 1 - 1
Top 8: Grixis Shadow
Game 1 I mull to 6 and keep a mediocre hand. I got killed after some uneventfull turns from my side. Boarded in the burn and possible the Blood Moons. Game 2 I mull to 6 again and keep a hand with an Overgrowth, a Titan and 4 lands. Which is basicly a turn 4 Titan. Not great, but I hoped to draw some additional action. Sadly there where 2 more lands and a T&N so I lost this one aswell. 7/7 Death Shadows beat a 6/6 Titan
Not sure if I should have gone to 5, I think the chances drop off quite quickly from 6 to 5 and this seemed okish.
Ended up with 10 packs since we split the packs in the top 8 and another friend managed to get to the Top 4 of the tournament. Not to bad a day.
Changes for the PPTQ next week will come tommorow. I have some changes that I want to make, but i`m not sure how it will look yet.
How are you guys feeling against UW control? I plaied a small tournament this weekend and UW had a lot of presence, specially the miracles version running Terminus.
I have not traditionally had difficulties against them in the past, but I tend to play lists that just keep piling permanents on the board (kinda basically "out-question" their answers. Also, I've played a lot of Genesis Hydra's in the past (and still have some in the board that I switch the Waves out for against control). A Gensis Hydra even just into even just a planeswalker can be really tough for them.. .
To be honest; there is probably a more elegant way to deal with control...but I kinda go the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it route
I still thinking that AS list is so weak against Death's Shadow and hard discard/removal decks, every time I try, it's almost an impossible MU. Maybe we need more 3 drops to hold the game in this list.
What is your toughts about Banefire? We can easily produce 6-10+ mana, looks like a good finisher, but never tested.
There will always be somewhat specific difficulties playing what I call "up the curve" lists (really just lists that are closer to a historically good "Ramp" list). Discard WRECKS ramp. They can either strand you with only mana...or only huge spells and no mana...and while tutors can help (as you can tutor up a 4-drop if you only have four mana available); Pact can hurt in these situations because it essentially time walk's you the next turn when you are short on mana.
I am not great with such lists (my lists tend to play on a slightly different "axis" than Pact lists) so I have a really good feeling that Anthony, you, and many others on here would be far better at playing "around" Discard with lists like AS's than I would though. Every deck has weaknesses though. If Discard is the Pact list's weakness...we'll just have to work on some ways to mitigate this if it becomes too big of an issue That's what the community is here for!
If you want a deck that's better vs B/x discard decks, then play my Garruks Green deck. I've posted it on here recently. It's my favorite list, but in a meta in which fast linear decks reign supreme, then you'd want to run AS's list, because his is a tiny bit faster.
It's a meta call.

So I revisited Counters Company devotion, and for some reason I wasn't including Winding Contstrictor. I made this list and it seems super sweet. The mana base makes it unsafe to run Blood Moon, so I've replaced them with Crumble to Dust. Crumble is better vs. Tron anyways, and can be an auto win vs. Valakut (thought Titanshift isn't a huge part of the meta atm).
I like that this deck can have explosive starts with just Constrictor and Nissa and a couple mana dorks.
I think I'll take out Armorcraft judge as it's kind of a win-more card in this deck. I should just include another Constrictor.

Hey all,
I've been bouncing between a couple different versions of this deck the past few months, most builds have felt clunky and there isn't much of a Plan B when all in on the devotion plan. When I came across Ross's list, I decided to give it a shot although I have changed a few things. This list seems to have the most solid Plan B if the big mana devotion side of the deck falls flat, while still setting you up well for Kessig kills and Primal Command loops etc.
I've ran a few leagues online with it and have gone a consistent 3-2. I plan on testing it more and bringing it to a local PPTQ. I'm pretty happy with this 75 but am always open to suggestions!

I played Ross's list this week too, what is your toughts about Witness Loop and Strangleroot?
Witness Loop was very slow to me, mainly against Humans and Ponza.
Strangleroot is fine, but in something like Stompy or something more agressive.
I guess in a devotion shell, we need two things, low mana cost bodies that can hold the field and help with draws (Courser, Armasaur, Visionary, etc) and big bodies that can win the game or put a lot of pressure (Queen, Ruric, Gigantosaurus, etc). And with all this Humans, Spirits and Dragons, I will play with Raking Canopy in my lists, looks really good.
I like the SLCs in the maindeck for board presence, but like Mender said, I feel we need low mana cost bodies that can help with draws. SLC holds the field, but doesn't smooth out draws or recover from removal (especially in the absence of Oath of Nissa). I'm also running SCL md but I can't tell whether to pair it with Courser of Kruphix, Runic Armasaur, Tireless Tracker, or just plain old Wistful Selkie. Carven Caryatid, Jadelight Ranger and even Domri Rade are on my radar for that slot.
SLC is an aggressive beater, capable of winning quickly on its own but not adding much unique value. Nissa VoZ is a more grindy PW, who creates chump blockers, gradually pumps a wider team, and casts Sphinx's Revelation in the long game. Nissa VoZ is also a bit easier to cast on turn 2-3, when your second or third land may be Nykthos or KWR.
Which is better depends on what your list looks like.
This list is really good, I lost to my bad luck against Death's Shadow (we played before the tournment and I did 4-3 against him). Against Jeskai Ascendancy is very hard, game 1 I have no interaction, game 2 even casting 3 sideboard cards wasn't enough, I need Damping Sphere or Trinisphere I guess.
Hey ya'll, been away for awhile playing Dragons and Faeries. GOt back to my roots today and played some good ol' fashioned Tooth and Nail and went 4-0 at FNM.
I played a small “in house” tourney today (just a small group of our friends that play Modern) and went 8-0 with my current Ealker list.
A few things I took from it:
1. Non-Creature permanents are better than average in the current meta.
There are a good amount of board wipes and X-for-1 creature removal options around right now; so having multiple enchantments and Walkers in the deck is a big help.
2. Genesis Wave has been Good
I know it seems counter-intuitive in a met heavy with Control; but I really don’t have any issues beating control in the first place and pretty much every other deck folds to it. Also, I’ve had multiple times where the opponent taps out for Jace, Aearch for Azcanta, removal, etc. and castes the Wave immediately. There are just so many decks that can’t do anything about a resolves Wave that it has been strong for me recently.
If I had a bad match up against Control otherwise, I may not advise Wave; but I did want to point it out.
3. Tireless Tracker is really good with Wave, Curio, etc.
I was not a huge Tireless Tracker advocate in the past. I tended to prefer “immediate effect” 3-drops like Witness, Selkie, Caryatid, etc...but Tracker is just so powerful in a Wave deck. He single-handily keeps some Wave “loops” going. If anyone plays Wave, look into a few copies of it.
I also like that Tireless Tracker gets quite large quite fast; so it gives you another avenue to win games.
4. Acidic Slime has been strong.
There are so many random artifacts and enchantments running around now (I even had two different opponents playing Worship today) and Slime hits them all. It’s a little expensive for the effect; but given the fact that it is great against Tron as well (which there is a lot of right now); I am up to two copies in the main.
————
5. I’d like one more method of getting creatures off the board. Polukranos has been good; but I’d like one more good removal choice. It is really tough choice for a deck like mine.

Nice!
I'm building TnN too.
How do you feel with Tireless Tracker instead big creatures like the older lists (Thragtusk, Elderscale Wurm, Hornet Queen, etc)? Did you considered Courser of Kruphix in this slot too? Looks like a great card against Ponza and other aggros too.
What is your toughts about Fertile Ground? With all this removals and discards, a turn 2 ramp looks good since our Arbor Elf will be bolted or pushed.

Hey, can you share tour list?
I will try a Genesis Wave list this week at my LGS, something like DGOMEZ4 list.
I'm Just thinking about Jadelight Ranger, I can't see how she is better than Steel Leaf Champion.
@Curdbros
Is it the classic Curdbros-Curio-Genesis Hydra.dec?
@Mender
I think Courser is a fine inclusion. I played Tracker as a card draw engine and alternate wincon. Other cards like Hornet Queen and Thragtusk are decent options against aggro. I opted for a more controlly route with command loop, given the linear nature of a lot of decks lately. I wouldn't bother with Fertile Ground though, you can only devote so many slots to ramp, and having redundant untap effects is much better than an expensive Utopia Sprawl. Really thought, the middle ~12 slots are up for customization based on what you expect to play against.

Yeah, I'm testing all kind of Big Mana Green decks, just waiting my TnN now, so I'm gathering all the knowldge here.
My meta is varied, discard decks (Grixis DS and Jund) are the most common, also combos (Jeskai Ascendancy or Storm) are always present and very hard for us, Ponza too.
Tracker is awsome, but Courser looks better against Ponza, the biggest enemy! I don't know if the full big dudes can handle fast aggro decks and if just 2 tool creatures will be good enough or just random cards in the list.
I suggested Fertile Ground instead Overgrowth in a heavy Bolt/Push meta as guaranteed turn 2 ramp.
I need some suggestions to a meta like mine, still testing this:

Pro-tip - Overgrowth is low-key the best card in Tooth and Nail. Single handedly jumps you to your mid-late game. The lack of Ghost Quarter in the format has made it a lot more reasonable these days.
Also, I have literally NEVER seen the card Skalla Wolf! What an interesting card! I feel obligated to grab some since they're so cheap now haha. Could be an interesting way to achieve better consistency for the deck.
P.S. - does anybody get directed to the source code of your reply when you submit a new post? I keep getting that for these last couple.
Curdbros, have you tested Garruk, Apex Predator in your walker list? He's on the high side, and you need to have Birds or Oath of Nissa to cast him, but he'll eat opposing creatures really well, and deals with opposing Planeswalkers efficiently. I've been wanting to try him in my SB but I don't think I can make room for him right now.
I love DGOMEZ4’s list though :). I gotta get a Woodland Bellower in my list immediately!

P.S. - does anybody get directed to the source code of your reply when you submit a new post? I keep getting that for these last couple.
10 mana 16/16 with Indestructible and Convoke
Lets get to brewing
I love Convoke! That is awesome. Vraska seems like she may have some Red in her cost now too (lot of Red in the art).
Nothing excites me more than spoiler season!!!!
P.S. I will post my list ASAP this evening along with a little "tourney report" (although it was not a "real" or important tournamanent).
