The only thing that makes Serum good is that it sets up your Lootings better. That doesn't mean that Serum is good, but that playing it alongside better cantrips makes it feel good.
When we are not looking for a specific card (because of the redundancy in the deck) but are instead just looking to chain through our deck, doesnt Visions dig further than other cantrips anyway?
Thought Scour digs the same amount at instant speed, assuming you don't mind things going in the yard. Scour also puts those cards directly in your hand/yard,.instead of requiring a chain or extra turns. Serum is great in this deck, but that doesn't make Serum a great card in a vaccuum. Give me a Serum Visions with Surveil and then we're talking about actually great.
I've been playing with 2x kerankos in the side. Its very brutal in the side. Beating a control deck digging with removal and azcanta is nice. The grave hate really isn't good against this deck.
I'm waiting to see if this deck REALLY breaks out the way humans did once they realized image was introduced
I dont think this deck can hold up like Humans has. The thing with human's is the double of disruption + aggro that is happening turn after turn after turn. I've seen Jund simply fail to keep up with the pressure.
While we are more explosive certainly than humans, if the meta becomes unfavourable to Thing, then it becomes imo, unfavourable to this deck.
Which meta would be hostile to TiTi, and does the deck have a potential alternative threat that would be more competative in that meta?
That's the question I'm asking myself.
If the hostile meta is a lot of combo and Big Mana, for example, (low numbers of creature midrange decks) then threats like Kiln Fiend might keep us competative.

A hostile meta would be BGx and UWx based imo. If you are running into Push, Terminate, Path, and the GY removal those decks both can pack (main deck or side) then I think the deck would crumble.
I wasnt sure if the Runaway thread was covering the R version as well, but hey!
The R version certainly is viable, very explosive and does play an interesting game between burn and creature aggro and combo.
The Run Away thread does not contain quite that list.
Ive found it to be very balanced, and the fastest of the variations. Just not quite sure where its home is. The U/R version seems to be the most popular.
I have noticed that all variations contain the following cards.
there are enough sources to discard more then just the Phoenix.
4x fiery temper (want to discard)
2x risk factor (can cast from graveyard)
1x flame jab (can cast from graveyard)
1x Maximize Velocity (can cast from graveyard)
Yeah its in the same pool as this version, using Risk Factor and Temper as additional threats and value off of the discard, while having less controlled dig. I dont think its a wrong approach by any means.
I put it aside after I got punked out hard by Iona, Shield of Emeria those kind of 'oh you play just X' feel bads are enough for me to never play a deck again.

Ouch ! That does really shut things down. Each deck has its weakness though. Ie: Burn vs Martyr proc.
I do run Blood Moon so... Red has some dirty tricks too !
If im not having fun I just conceed and move on. I imagine its what dredge players do when they see 4 leyline of the void in someones side deck.
I'm seeing lists pop up with baby Jace (VP) amd a local is using Noxious Revival. Both seem to have merit over something like Snap or Briefing, in that all recast your spells, but Revival is free and Jace is reusable. Dunno how I feel about eother, but I might jam a Revival in my list for tonight.
I agree that Jace is probably too cute. Still not sold on Noxious, but the guy playing it is running a different focused build. 4x scour, more Swiftys and Revelers, no main deck Drakes, so I guess it makes sense.
Because we literally want to be winning inside the first 4 turns. The longer it goes (in my experience online) the bigger the chance our opponents draw the hate needed to cripple the deck, or they do their own thing, and win.
I dont know, I keep just trying to make it faster, while not being quite as easy to hate out as the pure R version, which is certainly more explosive.
yeah UR phoenix is weird in that it its like a red deck that needs and or can only use a specific facet of blue. when the deck isnt suited to using a primary means of interaction (countermagic) of one of its colors - it is going to show.
when arclight phoenix started showing up in modern i questioned whether a shell could be found that can find a balance of getting the recursion online while still making reactionary plays. in other words, finding the minimum cost of enabling phoenix. i cant be sure what that mightve looked like, but i believe it would have something to do with not having to play manamorphose. there hasnt been evidence that this is possible (that ive seen anyways).
we are limited to the suite of 1 cmc countermagic. unfortunately one of them isnt Stubborn Denial and cant be played main. still really powerful stuff going on with our goldfish speed and a strong edge against certain creature decks, but not a lot of flexibility should mean the deck will wax and wane proportionally to format cycling.

I have noticed that all variations contain the following cards.
4x Arclight Phoenix
4x Manamorphose
4x Faithless looting
4x Lightning bolt
In the mono red version I use the following to help discard the Phoenix
4x faithless looting
4x tormenting voice
4x Bedlam Reveler
2x risk factor (jump-start)
1x Maximize Velocity (jump-start)
there are enough sources to discard more then just the Phoenix.
4x fiery temper (want to discard)
2x risk factor (can cast from graveyard)
1x flame jab (can cast from graveyard)
1x Maximize Velocity (can cast from graveyard)
The sources the deck has for draw are
4x faithless looting(flash back)
4x tormenting voice
4x manamorphose
4x bedlam reveler
2x Risk Factor
Any thoughts, on where this deck might fit in ?

the density of 1 cmc spells and wanting to cast multiple colored spells per turn. mana is deceptively tight for UR phoenix despite being 2 color.
