Typical lands, this time without Mutavault's, and ended 3-0-1 (the final we pacted for getting 1st and 2nd).
Won to UW control (a more orientated blink with Kitchen Finks, Restoration Angel, Runed Halo...) 2-0
Won against a rakdos prison 2-1
Won against a mardu 2-0
Tied (technically lost) against UW spirits, that deck was more aggro, and I couldn't find on any game almost any creature) 0-2.
So I finished 2nd after all.
My thoughts about Cryptic, is that I actually didn't used it, Remands and Unified Will from sideboard did their jobs, so I'm thinking of adding 2 Deputy of Detention.
It makes good use of Thalia and Deputy, recognizes that Kira is important for protecting them. I'm not wholly sure on 3 Captain\1 Copter, but it is understandable, as it makes all the weaker creatures better and does filter. It loses the boom of CoCo and the draw engine of Obsession, but it has huge threat density, excellent removal, and the most important non-Spirits.
I am amazed he got away with ZERO Stony Silence, but maybe that was a reasonable call in this meta, especially just going with 3 Damping Sphere for Tron, Combo, but also Phoenix.

I haven't played Stoney Silence since KCI was banned. The only deck I want it against is Hardened Scales and Deputy has done a lot to give the deck game against almost everything.
The 3/1 Captain/Kira split is for multiple reasons:
Protecting Thalia & Deputy proactively is back breaking against many decks currently.
I wanted to play 3 Deputy in the main but didn't want to go above 11 3-drops, so I cut the 4th Captain.
With the heavy amount of removal in the format currently has lead to getting the Drogksol "lock" more difficult, and if that's the case, Kira is just better.
Also, I believe bringing in Damping Sphere against Phoenix is a trap.
I like, in the theory way, Boros Charm. It can provide so many good value in our deck. It protects, also deals direct damage, but it also can make a spirit hit by a lot thanks to the double strike, thanks to the lords spirits.
Thank you! I've been putting a lot of work into tuning the deck over the past two months and this sideboard felt pretty close to spot on for the event. Didn't play or see much Dredge so maybe the third RiP could've been something else, but other than that, it was solid.
Why Boros charm over helix? I get the extra point of damage, but being able to target creatures and the life gain matters. Especially in a deck with eidolon of the great revel

Results from GP Bilbao also interesting, and I don't know the lists of those Spirit decks, but I'm betting they ran 2-3 Stony and if they did, it didn't seem to matter much...

@redtwister
Those are interesting data points. 5-0 against Mill makes the most sense. But tbh with numbers like those, I seriously question strength of pilot skill/experience in the match up. A lot of bad bant pilots get carried on the back of Collected Company.
Playing with vials, imo, you won't get that much hurt. Also, as I said, the value it gives against removal helps also a lot. I don't know, I have both, I can test both cases, but in the theory, in my mind makes more sense boros charm.

They were excluded from the focus of the article for not being statistically significant against an expected 50-50 matchup, though Whir got all of its matchups in the article itself.
Spirits faced Whir Prison 18 times, to a record of 8 Spirits wins and 10 Whir wins.
Spirits faced Tron 22 times, to a record of 10 Spirits wins and 12 Tron wins.
I would also expect 3 Damping Sphere and 2 Disdainful Stroke in SpookyGoose's deck to make it solid against Tron, as much as we can be, and the card I think I fear the most in Whir Prison is Bridge and/or Whir into Bridge or EE, and Stony only stops EE. Sideboard, they can bring in Torpor Orb, which also ignored Stony.
Disdainful Stroke is probably okay against Whir, but mostly because removal is bad, but a deck with 4 Thalia + 4 Deputy should do pretty well against Whir.

Here's the matchups I played during the Classic, for those who want some data.
Rd 1 vs Scapeshift: 2-0
Rd 2 vs UW Control: 2-0
Rd 3 vs 4c Shadow Zoo: 2-0
Rd 4 vs Esper Control: 1-2
Rd 5 vs UR Phoenix: 1-1-1
Rd 6 vs UR Phoenix: 2-0
Rd 7 vs Mono G Tron: 2-0
Rd 8 vs GB Rock: 2-1
Rd 9 vs Mono W Eldrazi & Taxes: 2-0
Top 8 vs GB Rock: 2-0
Top 4 vs UR Phoenix: 2-1
Finals vs UR Phoenix: 0-2

Yeah, the problem with Whirl is stony not affecting static abilities, so bridge and torpor orb don't get answered. Then they land Aether Grid and they take value out of every artifact on the field, or they close it with tezzereth.
Stony is excellent against tron on curve, but it doesn't beat a map on the play, nor a natural tron, and it's useless later in the game, whereas Damping Sphere hoses them at any point but it lets them cycle and activate stone. As things stand, I think a mix of the two is desireable, and I don't see stony being more than a 1x in the side. Those numbers about the Scales and Affinity matchups really make me think.
i'm shocked at those statistics: i always felt spirits was favored at least against affinity, having a lot of fliers. how it is possible that spirits (bant, i suppose) had a winrate of about 20%?
BTW, in the current meta it might be interesting to switch stony silence with hurkyl's recall, which has the bonus of not hitting aether vials.
For Tron, stony silence is also very useful against their single best card in walking ballista, but lists are moving away from it, so the loss of stony silence might be tolerable.
Hurkyl's is the best anti artifact sideboard card in the current meta, IMO. It beats up on any Affinity variant, while also giving you another out to the ensnaring bridge decks.
As long as you approach the phoenix matchup from the perspective that they're a midrange deck you're on the right track. Removal (PoE, Deputy of Detention, Dismember, Celestial Purge, Deceleration in Stone) is super important since Phoenix very few actual threats. Thalia is super important for slowing their deck to a crawl so I'd recommend at least 3 in the main, with another one in the sideboard if you don't want to play 4 main.
Just finished up Modern FNM tonight, finished the night 2-2
Match 1, Burn 2-0: Was a newer player piloting the deck. He should have taken it to game three but he didn't realize he could have used Rift Bolt earlier than he had. Both games I was only a lighting bolt from death but he ran out of gas before me.
Match 2, Dredge 1-2: My opponent said his deck wasn't cooperating with him all night so he was less explosive than usual. I've never played against Dredge before so I used game one to watch mostly. Game three Settle the Wreckage surprised him and he complimented my play on maximizing it on 4 creatures but he ended up refilling his board before I could.
Match 3, UR Phoenix 1-2: All three games both of us struggled to get anything actually going. Settle once again almost sealed me a victory in game three but I hit a pocket of four lands and he was able to find cantrips to phoenix me in the end.
Match 4, 5 Color Aggro: 2-1: Linear but synergistic filled aggro deck. Dovin going off with ultimate let me stabilize game two as I wasn't drawing anything but land. Game three I was able to drop three Supreme Phantom to out race him.
Very pleased I got to test Dovin. I've been eyeing him for spirits since he was spoiled and glad to see a few people on here say he was solid. Not surprised with how good Settle was. Sad I didn't get to try out Deprive but I also only sided it in once. Cutting Command and probably SV as I've got a Kira and the 4th Selfless in the mail already. Feel like I want another lifegain option(have seen several burn decks) and another graveyard hate effect in the side. We'll see if my work schedule allows to go the other modern night this month, love playing these ghost dudes.

Light Up the Stage can provide great card advantage, thanks to instant speed spells and Rattlechains for creatures.
Also, thanks to Aether Vial, Eidolon of the Great Revel can fasten up the damage that opponents will take, so Lightning Bolt and Boros Charm can finish them quickly.
Here I leave a quick brew:
3x Boros Charm
3x Light Up the Stage
4x Lightning Bolt
4x Aether Vial
Creatures (24)
4x Mausoleum Wanderer

1x Cavern of Souls
1x Steam Vents
2x Sacred Foundry
2x Hallowed Fountain

That all makes sense, and I found the build quite refreshingly tuned to the moment.
