So... Would you do a 3 Chords/1 Lead split or vice versa? I am currently gonna try a 3 Lead 1 Chord version of GB Elves, with Clancallers.
I used to be a firm believer in 4 chords. Now I'm sold on 4 leads. Someone put it best (don't remember if it was here or reddit), but he said go chords if you are looking for combo pieces (GW elves). But GB since a lot of dudes to go wide and power up shaman, you want gas and gas is in lead the stampede.

I was exactly the same. I was also a HUGE believer in GW Elves over GB, but since doing GB, I can't imagine really going back, outside of a meta choice.

Hello, everyone. I've been testing with some people at my LGS and... how do you guys play around UW Control? It seems hard now to protect the board because their sweepers exile rather than destroy, and more importantly, they can set Terminus into Miracle pretty easily with Opt and Jace, the Mind Sculptor. Selfless Spirit is not being useful here, anymore.
Are there playabe cards in Elves to dodge Terminus, for example?

I would just hope to play Lead the Stampede in some window before Terminus happens. And rely on your Companies to rebuild. There's really no other way around it. Terminus costing 1 mana leaves the UW opponent with mana for countering whatever you respond with. It should be less of an issue after board, especially if you show Cavern of Souls, but they still should keep in some countermagic. UW Control is not necessarily the best matchup for Elves. I feel like it's around 50/50, but I found some success by just going all-in and not trying to play around too much. The more turns you give them to Terminus, the more likely they'll find it. If there's a lot of UW Control in your meta, Elves is probably not the best choice, but it's still a solid option. (I know my own 50/50 matchup analysis is not going to be agreed with by many.)

I see, that's a solid point. Thanks for the advices. As an alternative to this, I was also thinking about using a couple of Loaming Shamans to shuffle their library when needed (and maybe it's also good against a flipped Jace, Vryn's Prodigy, if they are playing this card). The good thing about this idea is that it's a good card for other matchups as well. Is this reasonable?
Another interesting topic is: how many Lead the Stampede copies we should run? I see that it might depend on a lot of things, but the standard choice would be 1~2, right? I also know that this probably has been discussed here early. If that's so, then alright, I'll make a research and test.

Lead the Stampede should be a 3-4 of. This is what I've seen several Elves lists do, starting with mine.
1. 3 Lead the Stampede, 4 Collected Company
2. 4 Lead the Stampede, 4 Collected Company
3. 3 Lead the Stampede, 1 Chord of Calling, 4 Collected Company
4. 4 Chord of Calling, 4 Collected Company.
Gaddock Teeg is bad for that reason AND they have control about when they want to Path to Exile it or not. It's also not an Elf, so it has no other synergy with the deck, which wouldn't be the worst if it did more, but it just is a speed bump.
*I personally never found Loaming Shaman to be worthy in Modern. I always question the card whenever I see it in someone's 75. It's just my experience though.

I don't play Elves so take this with a grain of salt. I remember during my days in Legacy... an Elves player slowly killing UW Miracle player by just having 2 or 3 creatures at a time in the battlefield. The UW deck would eventually have to board wipe, but still slowly lose from beatdown of 1/1's and 2/2's.
Thanks everyone for the help, I really appreciate it. I believe the conclusion is: just rebuild with Lead the Stampede and Collected Company if possible. And play 3 copies of Lead at minimum, ideally. That involves, of course, skill and knowledge. I can tell that it is not that hard to rebuild if you're careful. As you guys said, it's like a 50/50 matchup.
Besides, I would like to make another interesting question about the Control matchup (not necessarily UW), and yes, that involves playing around stuff, but you'll understand the point. Is it Vexing Shusher worthy to be in the sideboard? I think it would be a good budget option to put in the sideboard in the lack of Cavern of Souls copies. I'll be testing. By the way, it is probably unnecessary if you've got enough copies of Cavern of Souls already, right? Each slot of the sideboard is precious I believe, heh.

I have played Vexing Shusher a bit in formats and literally the only reason to run the card is against Chalice of the Void.dec. Any other deck with Countermagic ALSO has removal for days, so the card is nearly worthless. I would never run Vexing Shusher in Modern, at least as it stands now. If you don't have Cavern of Souls, just play without them. I own Cavern of Souls, yet STILL don't play it in Elves because you would rarely need it. It's just easier for me to leave them in another deck. Ever since I saw some random dude top 8 a GP with GB Elves without Cavern, I was sold on not trying to completely make the deck as strong as it can be. Basically you're adding another 0.01% to the win percentage or something like that. It's negligible.

If no money, 1x Westvale Abbey and 1-2x Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx are affordable cards that see play in the archetype. The first one offers lifegain and some wins vs midrange decks that can't deal with it (BGx), the second plays as an extra Archdruid mana.

Pioneer - A bunch of stuff Modern - Humans Legacy - Grixis Phoenix / Death & Taxes
I'm taking GB elves to a rather larger tournament this weekend (around 200ppl). GP atlanta had a lot of uninteractive decks. What's the general strategy against uninteractive decks? Just go faster than they? What are the general bad matchups?
Not sure what to expect. I don't get out and play much. But I do have the most experience with GB elves because it's relatively easy to play (not a lot of decision making). I'll post my deck later tonight.
I'm going to a tournament this sunday with the following list, what are you thinking about ?
[...]
Not sure about main deck Scavenging Ooze. I mean, it could be that your meta is in such way that it's reasonable to play 2 copies, but otherwise, in some matches it just does nothing.
In case of a neutral meta, I'd take 2 Scavenging Oozes off and add Lead the Stampede and Chord of Calling, 1 copy each. Chord is amazing because you can, for example, play Shaman of the Pack and then cast Chord in response to the trigger, searching for another Shaman. It is such a versatile card, and it's instant speed. Of course, there are even much more ways to make good use of it, as you might agree. If you don't have copies of Chord of Calling available, I'd suggest adding 2 Lead the Stampedes instead of 1 or add Lead the Stampede and Ezuri, Renegade Leader, 1 copy each, if you'd like. As far as I can tell, 3 Ezuris is not too much, and some people apparently agree with me, like Reid Duke, although he's a GW player. But the reasons that make him like lots of copies of Ezuri in his deck can be applied to GB too.

Red wants freedom.
I just came back from a 250ppl tourney. Went 4-5 (technically wen't 3-6). Not a good showing but eh...I don't get many opportunities to play MTG these days so any MTG is good for me.
UW COntrol (L) - Punted badly. I should've gotten the W here.
Humans (W)
Jund (L) - Couldn't get explosive starts
Jund (W) - Meh...mediocre starting hand. Lead the stampedes provided the gas to give me the W.
Storm (L) - Games 3 and 4, he had the kill before T4. Both games, i had lethal on board before he went off.
Human (L) - He had very good meddling mages. I was ready to go off with a T3 coco...but he meddling mage naming coco...then I proceeded to flounder for the next 4 turns.
Grishoalbrand (L) - Such a BS deck. T2 killed me twice. Didn't stand a chance. He gave me the win here since he was dropping anyways.
Jund (W) - Very fun games here.
Elves (L) - It all came down to who had the better draws and lead the stampedes. Both losses I had lethal on board, he was just a turn faster.
My thoughts: I do miss assassin's trophy and its ability to kill anything. Stain the mind is very slow to rely on it to stop any meaningful combo deck. I lost to storm with Stain in my hand. Phyrexian Revoker not being a green spell might have cost me a game against humans.
From my starting hands, I'm wondering if Hoogland is right to run Elves of the Deep Shadow over Nettle Sentinels is correct. I encountered multiple instances where I had a nettle sentinel in hand, the rest of my hand was great, but not enough ramp to get me there. I do remember he explained the reason to run the deep shadow elf over nettle sentenels is it allows for more keepable starting hands. I certainly enoountered that dilemma. Although its the nettle sentinel + heritage druid combo that allows us to play our entire hand out. I also feel 1 Nykthos in the main is good as well.
My elf opponent and I felt that the deck felt very meh at times...not explosive from time to time. Kind of clunky at times. Not sure if this is due to inexperience or just bad luck/draws.
Yeah, I'm not a fan of Stain the Mind, either. Against Storm, the GBW and GW versions of Elves run not that bad because of Eidolon of Rhetoric. That's the advantage of playing W: you have a lot of good sideboard options.
About Nettle Sentinel, I think it's an interesting question. Reid Duke, for example, prefers to play Boreal Druid instead. He states: "Nettle Sentinel does painfully little in your less-than-perfect draws, and is often overkill in your good draws anyway. I replaced them instead with Boreal Druids, which are never bad, and contribute to your best non-Heritage Druid draws, which involve turn-2 Elvish Archdruid". But note that Reid Duke is a GW player. When considering playing GB, he states: "Replacing Boreal Druid with Elves of Deep Shadow and adding Overgrown Tombs and fetchlands to your deck is worth an average of about 3 life points per game—starting things off at 17 instead of 20 is a very real cost".

Well, I'm not an expert, so let's see what other people say about the list. Also, good luck in the tournament.
