I will probably try a list with an Overgrown Tomb or 2. Currently I have 2 Gemstone Mine. I have had problems hard casting Vengevines, but part of that honestly was just to drawing multiples in the mid game, which probably shouldn't happen often. I will certainly try it some time within the next few weeks though (I'm away from many of my cards right now...)

Got wrecked today. 2 person FNM. London mulligan again.
Round 1 vs. Humans. I draw my best draw yet with the deck. I get Hogaak and another 10 power of creatures on turn 2. He plays Kitesail Freebooter, sees my remaining hand, and scoops. In the next game, he mulls to 6. Double Leyline of the Void. I kept on 1 land, Faithless Looting, Insolent Neonate. He gets 3 lands into play and just plays a bunch of creatures. I get stuck on 1 land, and can't do much with 2 Leylines. Not even sure if I can rebuild if I were to draw a 2nd land and 2 Wispmare. I cannot beat this draw. In the final game, I keep with Faithless Looting and Cathartic Reunion. He has Leyline of the Void to start off. I draw and discard. Then I discard 2 cards to Cathartic Reunion. On turn 3, I make the mistake. I reluctantly play a Stitcher's Supplier because I want to have a creature on board. It mills X, X, Wispmare. I lost right there, as I play a few 1/1s while he plays Unsettled Mariner, Image on Mariner (after I Lightning Axe Champion of the Parish), and then Auriok Champion. I draw a few lands and scoop. 1-2.
Round 2 vs. Mono Red Phoenix. I keep on 1 land (again!) and double Insolent Neonate. I can't find a 2nd land and when I play Stitcher's Supplier, it puts 2 Vengevine. I die on turn 3. In the next game, I lose to drawing a 2nd and 3rd copy of Hogaak while my opponent Gut Shots my Stitcher's Supplier into Ravenous Trap. Not easy to play around that one and with all those cards gone, the extra Hogaaks are NOT good in hand. Cruuuushed. 0-2.
Round 3 vs. Dredge. In the first game, I literally don't draw nothing but lands, so I start losing the race. On turn 5, I tell him I can mill his deck. The problem? I'm at 6 life and he has 3 Creeping Chill in the deck. He is about to scoop when he realizes this. I milled him a bit and when I saw the 2nd copy and was at 3 life, I assumed there were 2 more. Maybe a mistake? (he had Hogaak and Stitcher's Suppliers) In the next game, he has Tormod's Crypt and a lot of early pressure. Had 2 cards in hand since the beginning, so probably had the answer to Leyline of the Void as well. I got stuck with a bunch of lands. Near the bottom of my deck was 4 Hogaak, 4 Bridge from Below, and 4 Altar of Dementia. Hey, all the potential ban prospects. LOL. 0-2.
Round 4 vs. UW Control. The first game is ugly. I keep on 2 land (!!!!) this time. I peel land after land and smash with Gravecrawler and Bloodghast. He eventually Surgical Extractions both after some Supreme Verdict/Wrath of God/ScM action. Narset hit the board and Jace. I keep drawing Hogaaks. After Narset has been in play for a million turns, I draw Cathartic Reunion into Faithless Looting. The next game is similar, but he does Detention Sphere on my double Altar of Dementia. He uses 2 Path to Exile and 2 Celestial Purge this game, but eventually I run him out of options in the late game. I go for flashback Faithless Looting with 3 Hogaak in hand. He uses his last card to Force of Negation. I then play the Altar and win after that. There is not much time for the final game. I put pressure on him and him having only 2 land in his opener slowed him a bit. When he drew and played his 3rd land, he did triple Path to Exile. Then he did Vendilion Clique and started racing me, but I actually drew a good card - Faithless Looting and he had to Wrath of God the next turn. I killed a Narset with Wispmare and this game went to time. He scooped to me in the end. We both had pretty good hands. He may have beaten me because Hogaak top decks ass while UW has many hits (1 more Path to Exile and 2 Celestial Purge left in the deck and since I Wispmare #2 on turn 2 Rest in Peace, he probably draws ScMs). 2-1.
I got 1-3. Got demolished. I saw what happened when my opponents were prepared, drew their optimal hands, and I drew multiple Hogaak, no grave hate removal, no 2nd land, or only lands. It was not good.

Hardly. It's now just more of an aggro deck than a combo deck. The important thing is that they did not ban Alter of Dementia. I would start with a list like this:
Round 1 vs UR control with Thing in the Ice: Game 1 I deploy a couple Vengevines and zombies and pressure him enough to force some blocks, and deal with TiTi through Darkblast, they Cryptic tap draw the turn I had lethal, durdle a little bit and flip a 2nd TiTi with double bolt, I cast Hogaak next turn to block and keep pressure with my Vengevines until they die. Game 2 I had a great hand with 2 suppliers+Hogaak+Ghast, T1 supplier mill 3, T2 supplier mill another 3 (1 Max Velocity), cast hogaak leaving only Max Velocity in the graveyard and jump start discarding bloodghast to attack for 9, they T3 Anger removing the suppliers, my T3 is play land return bloodghast, max velocity it and attack for 11
Round 2 vs Humans Game 1 we both fill the board and I have 1 hogaak in play and another in gy so I keep attacking with it every turn and then casting the one in graveyard to block tapping whatever that can't block and force some blocks until I control the board. Game 2 they T1 Cage T2 Auriok Champion T3 Plague Engineer naming zombie, I try to grind it out with Stinkweed Imp and removing creatures with Darkblast but it wasn't enough. Game 3 I deploy a T2 Hogaak + Vengevine and they can't keep up
Round 3 vs Red Phoenix Game 1 opponent puts me low on life while I setup but is then left without cards and I manage to push damage through while keeping blocks to avoid dying. Game 2 my opponent puts me down to 6 and I need a good dredge to go off, I find the win reanimating Hogaak + 2 Vengevine + Max Velocity out of nowhere
Round 4 vs UR Phoenix Game 1 I have a strong opener deploying Hogaak turn 2 and they manage to flip TiTi to save themselves but I recast everything and push damage while keeping Hogaak to block. Game 2 I Thoughtseize their Aria of Flame over Anger of the gods, turn 2 Hogaak and they T3 Aria of Flame but they were left with not much gas in hand, finds a Titi and a couple more spells before dying
Round 5 vs Boros Burn Game 1 I put some pressure with Vengevine and a couple 2/1, they cast Eidolon and don't block me so I just pass the turn to them with a healthier life and they are unable to kill me without dying from their Eidolon, Game 2 I manage to T2 Hogaak again but my life is lower this time, I play around Deflecting Palm by not attacking with Hogaak since it wasn't lethal that turn and opponent deals me 6 EOT and another 6 on their turn to kill me. Game 3 I have another strong opener, my opponent had Path to slow me a turn (I had Feeder to sac Hogaak and recast) and when they were at 11 and I was at 12 I attacked for 19, they had Deflecting Palm on Hogaak but it was lethal anyway and Bolt would leave me at 1 so I manage to take a close win
Round 6 ID vs Affinity
Round 7 Id vs Naban Humans
QF vs Urza's & Sai's Outcome I wish this friend of mine were playing the Thopter Sword combo but they were playing a Paradoxical Outcome grindy brew that happened to play a lot of cheap artifacts including 3 Relic of Progenitus maindeck + Tormod's Crypt and Grafdigger's Cage on the side. I make a mistake by keeping a greedy opener with 1 Overgrown Tomb able to turn 2 Hogaak if I mill him with any of my 2 Suppliers but I only milled 5 lands and another Supplier (d'oh), it didn't matter much as my opponent lead with land, Mox, Relic, Mishra's Bauble so they had active relic from turn 1 and I couldn't find any red source to dig with Looting so they setup while I am basically doing nothing. Game 2 I have a decent opener but their turn 1 involves Grafdigger's Cage + Tormod's Crypt so although I destroyed their Cage with Shenanigans I didn't find any action on my mills and I were not able to do anything before my opponent would take the lead and combo me out casting 3 Paradoxical Outcomes the same turn with both Urza and Sai on the board
I think most players were low on hate as I didn't need to face any Leyline of the Void or Rest in Peace, I think the deck is quite good G1 vs most of the field, the matchup that worries me the most G1 is Tron doing T3 Karn into Ensnaring Bridge but I like how it plays vs everything else and the zombie beatdown plan with Cryptbreaker is decent when we are facing hate that we can't deal with right now as it let's us establish board presence and draw cards to find our answers
I think most players were low on hate as I didn't need to face any Leyline of the Void or Rest in Peace, I think the deck is quite good G1 vs most of the field
.
in my limited experience post ban, i feel that there are too few leylines back then i only expect it on BGx and mirror matches, BGx is quite tricky for me to predict because some do/some don't play leylines because of bob. actually the most problematic anti graveyard hate i found is grafdigger's cage , relic and spellbomb are both easy to play around but not for cage.
congrats for placing that event and thank you for sharing this report. i've already asked in reddit what i want to know. btw are you also a member of the FB bridgevine facebook group? another player made a good outing playing bridgevine there and he still got the altar mill back-up plan. his card choices particularly street wraith seems interesting.
Card Choices: Lightning Skelemental - normally in the graveyard due to dredge from stinkweed imp or mill from stitcher's supplier. it provides distruption plan in the form of discard. the card also synergizes with carrion feeder in which we sacrifice it before it's own trigger at end step. another thing i like with this card is that it's not a bad top deck and can somehow function even under graveyard hate.

Thanks! I am not in the FB group but I am in the discord channel, there are many players brewing there.
Now that I am so focused on T2 Hogaak, I think I will be running 18 lands (instead of 17) with many fetches to maximize Bloodghast value, that should enable more hasty Hogaaks with Max Velocity. Since I was not siding Leyline vs Phoenix nor Storm (only vs mirrors, Dredge and Thopter Foundry combos), I think I will be testing a 2-2 split of Surgical Extraction and Ashiok, Dream Render instead. The idea is to make Dredge's Nature's Claim bad while having more versatile hate options, my only concern is that it could be too slow sometimes. I didn't like having 4 slots in my sideboard for just a few matchups, specially when one of them (Dredge) was consistently finding the answer to it in the early game. Being able to stop search effects should also improve my matchup vs Devoted Druid, Amulet and Valakut (although Valakut is already a good matchup). Not sure if I would side it vs Tron as by turn 3 they probably have already searched for everything they need
The idea is to replace the now banned combo with a sort-of combo. That is, a small Hollow One package.
Green is basically for Sideboard hate and for the remote possibility of having to need to hard cast Vengevine at some point (I dislike the idea of a completely dead card in my Hand).
So, again being basically several mini combos, at least it goldfished fine, but I would be unsure how to sideboard G1 (mainly, what to take out):
Indeed will I give Satyr Wayfinder another try after reading that thread. I tested it a while ago but wasn't personally impressed. I found it stretched our color needs too much at the beginning and is somewhat slow (for my tastes) at 2 mana. But I cannot certainly argue with the results, so another test is in order.
what i don't like here is burning inquiry, the randomness of that card can really hurt us if it got the wrong card.
Indded the randomness could be hurtful, but we have 16 cards we want in our Graveyard (plus another 4 that, if discarded, can still be used). I like the speed with which Burning Inquiry fills the Graveyard, and I also tried to add another angle to the Deck which does not get hosed completely by GY hate.
In practice, the engine performed averagely. Neither did it overperform nor did it it hinder me at all, even with the randomness of Inquiry. I will probably test Satyr again.

i'm the same with you about this, we want R turn1 and G turn2 if we play satyr wayfinder and that really hurts specially with burn and mono-red phoenix running around. the only selling point to me of playing satyr wayfinder is the ability to fight chalice on 1.
Absolutely true. That is why I have a single copy of Shenanigans in the board. And yes, needing BRG the first two turns of the game leaves us vulnerable to lots of things.
Still, as the Street Wraith is the most underwhelming card in my Deck and I was thinking of replacing it anyways with Cathartic Reunion I will test Satyr Wayfinder again.
it's glad to see dredgevine to be the most represented deck in the highest stage of competitive mtg.
look at those satyr wayfinder and lotleth troll, we're almost back to 2015-2016 decklist before prized amalgam were printed.

Lightning Skelemental - normally in the graveyard due to dredge from stinkweed imp or mill from stitcher's supplier. it provides distruption plan in the form of discard. the card also synergizes with carrion feeder in which we sacrifice it before it's own trigger at end step. another thing i like with this card is that it's not a bad top deck and can somehow function even under graveyard hate.
Thunderkin Awakener - synergizes with the card above and also a removal magnet due to it's triggered ability.
Golgari Thug - dredge function. together with carrion feeder can protect us from surgical extraction. can re-buy thunderkin awakener.
Walking Ballista - finisher or removal and also to enable faster vengevine trigger and ensure that we can possibly trigger vengevine on curve.
Basically T1: 1-Drop + 0 | T2: 2-Drop + 0 | T3: 3-Drop + 0.
ex. T1: Insolent Neonate > Discard Vengevine > Cast Ballista for 0 > Trigger Vengevine.
or T2: Thunderkin Awakener > Cast Ballista for 0 > Trigger Vengevine. (assuming vengevine is in the graveyard, this one can be an explosive turn2 with T1: Faithless looting discard Stinkweed imp + Vengevine/Lightning skelemental, T2: Dredge > Cast Thunderkin Awakener > Cast Ballista for 0 > trigger Vengevine > Atk > Trigger Thunderkin Awakener > Get an attacking Lightning Skelemental.)

Still, as the Street Wraith is the most underwhelming card in my Deck and I was thinking of replacing it anyways with Cathartic Reunion I will test Satyr Wayfinder again.
look at those satyr wayfinder and lotleth troll, we're almost back to 2015-2016 decklist before prized amalgam were printed.
