Chalice of the void was an all-star against the B/R and Naya burn decks. Makes me consider going up to 3x in the SB. Really digging the deck!
Chalice was an all star indeed. I have 3 main deck in Legacy so having access to 3 in modern was nice as well. I brought them in for burn and eldrazi (he played thoughtseize, inquisition, and path) and they were game changing.
Spellskite was ok. I put both in against suicide B/R and one in against naya, if I remember correctly. I'm not sure how necessary he is going forward unless Bogles becomes a top deck. The protection it offers for other creatures can be nice but Merfolk has so much redundancy in it's threat base that I don't feel spellskite is necessary.
Yeah, did you miss Kiora, Master of the Depths? It's useless for us, but we frankly shouldn't expect any Kiora to be useful for us. She seems to be aimed at the "summon big bad creatures" Timmy-esque approach, which is the polar opposite to the one we're going for.
I did not miss this card. The newest one is unplayable outside Limited. Yet with her in the storyline they could have made another one, and mono-blue would be preferred over this UG silliness, obviously.
I play Merfolk in a blue deck box with blue sleeves on my Thassa mat with a Kiora divider for my sideboard and tokens. When they Inq me turn 1 or I play an Island and a vial the jig is up anyway. If the sleeves weren't garbage I'd sleeve the deck up in Ultra Pro Kiora sleeves to boot. I show my love for the deck and the archetype
The mats, sleeves, and deck boxes from Ultra Pro are available to see. No Kiora or Jori and the gameday mat doesn't have them either. Yeah the gameday foil is a Jori which is pretty sweet, but no new accessories to show our love
I was paired against a friend who reguralry plays Infect, he took out foil framed Poison token and started shuffling.
His turn one was fetch, Stomping Ground, Wild Nacatl and a smile
I thought that was cool but I play Tidebinders and those are good against either deck, so it was easy win.
In his place I would acquire some Golem tokens with Lifelink and Deathtouch because those "tell" people to keep different hands against Tron than Infect or Zoo.
What is your stance on throwing people off with subtle cues? Do you have good bluff examples?
Twin refugee here who happens to have all the cards to build the mono-blue version of this deck. Is it that much worse than the blue splash white version? How do you think we match up against the metagame now that Twin is gone? I feel like we can't beat Tron or Eldrazi, not to mention Ad Nauseum.
Hopefully I'll be joining the community soon, take care guys.

Merfolk is well positioned at the moment. We have it good against the current field, only really being weak to Affinity and Elves. Tron and BW Eldrazi aren't really a problem as we have the upperhand maindeck as we attack through islandwalk, killing off their lands, and rarely put cards into our graveyard so they have to work for it.

Eldrazi is a cake walk with the proper land disruption suite, same with tron. Ad Nauseam is tricky, but Dispel and Negate can get us there. I've not lost to the eldrazi deck yet and tron gets smoked by my eight seas build.

Also, you seem to be assuming the UW version is stronger than mono-U. You should check the past few pages. So far, mono-U is superior.
I actually had zero assumptions, I meant to ask it as "is it much worse, it at all," because I legitimately have 0 expectations coming into this. To be honest, I don't expect to do much winning in the next month or so until I really learn a new deck and Tron/Drazi eats a ban.

So the mono-U is actually the default (read: most competitive) version of the deck, and it's quite well-positioned. We have enough land hate available (especially because I'm finding that Ghost Quarter isn't affecting my manabase all that much) to beat Tron and Eldrazi, and we can shut down other linear decks with bounce, bigger creatures, Master of Waves, Chalice of the Void... you get the idea.

Well, the first thing is why would you ever expect a Kiora to be printed in OGW after one was printed in BFZ? There's no precedent for that. Secondly, the new Kiora isn't all that terrible - it's roughly equivalent to Garruk Wildspeaker in Tooth and Nail Ramp, and running them alongside each other seems to make the deck fairly consistent (at least from what I've seen).

Pretty sweet mat
Right. I said they did not print a new Kiora in OGW, not BFZ. Is there a quota on Planeswalkers I'm not aware of?
