It's good and bad. Increased awareness doesn't help our game. I was planning to take this to a Gp next week. After this showing it may do me more bad than good. As that's 2 weeks everyone will have to prepare for this. Spellskites galore.
So the PT has made me pretty interested in this deck. I've been getting a bit bored with Storm and I'd love another goldfish style combo deck (with just a bit of interaction). However, I unfortunately don't have money for Hierarchs right this second (I likely will over the next few months, and I'm also waiting to see if they get a reprint in MMA2). I'm under the impression that the BUG version is unplayable without Hierarchs.
However, I also don't want to play mono green, which leads me to Green Black.
Unfortunately, I haven't really seen any lists for GB floating around recently, so I'm attempting to put one together. I'd love any input. Note that I don't have Catacombs yet, as I haven't played any GB deck in Modern before (thus all my lands are mostly UR or some form of Esper).
Impressive to see lots of UG Infect in the Pro Tour; I wonder what prompted them to make that decision. Also, I feel a bit sad reading all about the deck's losses in the articles. I figured the Burn and Abzan match-up would be okay. :/
Also, I'm still playing the MonoGreen Infect list but now I have everything to build UG Infect EXCEPT Noble Hierarhs :)) I sure hope they're in MM2
I've been on one maindeck Spellskite for a while now. Burn is prevalent, and Twin is common enough that having it in the main is quite useful. I cut down on Might of Old Krosa as well as 2 Ichorclaw Myrs for it.
Wild Defiance + Spellskite = BBF's! You basically have as many free redirects as you have blue mana and then the bolts will do a max of 2dmg while not killing the Spellskite
How so? Am I missing som erules interaction here? I thought that the skite would get the +3/+3 trigger from Wild Defiance if you redirect it. Or am I wrong here?
It sounded like you were saying you could keep triggering Wild Defiance multiple times. You can with 2 kites, but with 1 you can only do it once.
I was playing gb infect about 18 months ago (so this is probably irrelevant information) and I was running birds instead of nobles. As a mana producer or a sac to liliana creature they're fine. My only tip is get the nobles sooner rather than later as the exalted really makes the difference to this deck.
Lately (the last 18 months 😉) I've been flip flopping over ug and bug flavours. Mostly bug though.my main issues with ug is that I can't play abrupt decay. With bug I can't play enough counters lol.
I run BUG. I find its been doing fine, without counters. I have dispel in SB, but so far have not needed it as much as the other SB options. Im 17-3-0 with it so far.
Of note are the Path to Exile in the sideboard, which I added to combat the rise of Tarmogoyf. Blight Mamba is in there as tech against Abzan, allowing you to have a very resilient threat that can block their large attackers until you're ready to kill them with it. I've also maindecked a Dispel to deal with opposing burn and other removal spells.
I really think the Infect deck needs 3+ Distortion Strike given the relevance of Abzan currently. Lingering Souls is very hard to beat within a reasonable time frame.
The switch with Wild Def and Distortion strike is an experiment. So I have no answer until tomorrow night when I test it out.
As for Krosa. Its tricky, but 99% of the time I am casting it at sorcery speed. Its best to do it when you also have a protection spell in hand in case they try for removal, but thats a call youll have to make. Generally speaking I dont need to worry when I cast it on Blgihted agent, or on a flyer when they have no flying blockers.
Kovo I'd say it's a mistake to leave Defiance out of your maindeck. From the Pro Tour metagame at least, Burn is a force and you need to be ready for it.
As for Might, casting it at sorcery speed is always what you want to do.

Its definitely a meta-game call. At the moment, burn is not a big thing at my local meta, so WD in Sb makes more sense.
Generally speaking we always lose game 1 to burn any way due to lack of SB hate. So it may not be the worst thing in the world atm.

Hmm. In my experience, game 1 has always been 50-50. Maindeck Dispel and Spellskite help that, though, which you don't have access to. I'm considering finding room for a second Wild Defiance as well.
Hi everyone, first time poster. I started playing infect after pod got banned and I realized I had the complete manabase including the Hierarchs for an infect deck. I have had fairly good results with a Bant version of infect (though there are really no white cards in the main deck, only sideboard).
I have a few question for you more experienced infect players:
1) I only run 4x glistener elf, 4x blighted agents, 4x inkmoth as my infect creatures i.e., I do not have the extra creatures that typically "round off" the attackers. Instead I run 1-2 copies of sylvan scrying to fetch for inkmoths (or pendlehavens when I need that extra pump or dryad arbor for liliana). Does anyone else do this? I find sylvan to be a lot more valuable then say a necropede or Ichorclaw Myr.
2) I am currently splashing white. For my lands I run the typical UG lands except I have 3 breeding pools (instead of four) and 1 temple garden with no white cards in my main deck. However I find the SB white cards to be very valuable in the meta-game i.e., rest in peace, path to exile, and stony silence (maybe also leyline). Is anyone splashing white for SB?
3) I am also curious about what other people are running as 'one-of's. I am currently running a pact of negation, dryad arbor, and a become immense (mainly based off of Tom Ross' decklist).
Thanks!

It's almost as if I nearly built the deck last year and went for Storm at the last moment and was going to be buying Hierarchs over time.
Nah, surely not.
