“I am confident that if anyone actually penetrates our facades, even the most perceptive would still be fundamentally unprepared for the truth of House Dimir.”
It's unfortunate that you can't Surgical Extraction the ole spaghetti monster, but it's far from a major threat unless they plan to hardcast it. We have plenty of options is all I'm saying, and they don't all need to involve waiting until Emrakul, the AEons Torn is recycling their gy or hitting the field. If things get really bad with that deck, which is hardly a thing as of yet, you can always disable their plan by turning to Hero's Downfall or Dreadbore (if you're grixis). You can pack a couple Briberys too if you wanna be the cheesiest person in all of existence.
Lastly, and this purely hypothetical, but has anyone every considered upping your library to 66 cards for two extra lands and Thought Scour/Serum Visions/Remand? I know it takes out-of-the-box thinking, but this is definitely a late game win deck. In combination with Mesmeric Orb's effects on our own deck/draws, why not up the library to put in some much needed card advantage or control? I think UB mill has a unique interest in this theory. Thoughts?
Personally I despise remand, especially in our deck. It's simply not good if you aren't racing the opponent. I don't like thought scour at all. And serum visions is okay but not necessary. Plus going above 60 throws everything out of whack. I wouldn't recommend it.

Running MB Nihil Spellbomb is probably a really good idea currently. With Jeskai adopting Emrakul and Dredge making a HUGE showing right now, it might be smart to pack X amount of MB grave hate.

Trying to make this competitive. Not sure on sideboard. Is Set Adrift best antileyline tech?
Set Adrift is Sorcery speed, so no. Echoing Truth is what you want to be playing. If that's not an option then Into the Roil would suffice until you get Echoing Truth.

Yeah too many Nahiri/Emrakul right now. Almost unwinnable. Probably wrong time for Mill.

You'll have to try harder than that to dissuade me. I feel like too many magic players don't even give the idea a chance because they've always dealt with the lowest possible library size since they began playing magic. I'm not saying I do this, but I'd like some more elaboration as to what gets thrown out of whack and how if you raise your land count proportionately? It's just a differen't x in the equation. Raise one raise the other.

Set adrift puts the card on the top of the library and then it gets milled away, that's the whole point. It's completely for the white leyline, and bouncing that for one turn doesn't help you at all. You need it to straight go away.

Lol except for the fact that u/b mill is currently 8-0 at GP L.A. right now, so there's that. Most RG tron decks not running emrakul with no eye.
Yeah, I was on the f*** Manic Scribe train ever since it got spoiled. I plan on sleeving up a playset and going to town next modern tourney. I'm not too proud to admit when I'm likely wrong.
Fantastic to find this thread guys. I've been playing my own rogue deck for about 8 months now and evolving/changing things i don't think work.
Looking at this deck that is doing well at the GP is very interesting. It seems he is looking to help delirium turn on with the Mesmeric Orbs and that he is even using the Phantasms to go for a kill when it allows.
One thing im cautious of is that he is running zero creature removal. The combo with leyline of the void and crypt incursion is something i worry about constantly myself. Maybe he sides in voids and sides out crypt incursions and doesn't put in Profane mementos.
Also in my experience visions of beyond turns off ensnaring bridge so i ended up dropping my playset to maintain a bridge lock.
I recently went down the road of going full hand disruption with a playset of inquisitions and 2x Thoughtseize and running a playset of surgical extraction and extricate to try and wreck opponents deck from the inside while i mill them.
Is there any footage of this player playing the deck ? I'm super interested in seeing what his sequencing is for turns.
I just checked standings and it looks like he came 271st on 29 points.
This is my deck. I welcome thoughts comments and suggestions.
He got blasted in day two, the stream from day 1 has him featured at the end around 7hours 30min. good games against gr tron
Do we know if it was overly good match ups for him day 1 ? And conversely was day 2 really bad match ups ?
In my experience mills biggest enemy is aggro the way it should be, and its why i have moved to running 8 pieces of removal md to help me against aggro matches. Im wondering if aggro decks ripped it apart on day 2
I think Manic Scribe is ok on average, but it needs enablers to be great
So the right choice imo is playing 2-3 Manic Scribes with 4 Mesmeric Orbs and 1-2 Jace, Vryn's Prodigy
Its fairly rough, as I'm not sure how good manic scribe or set adrift are yet, but this list is more or less optimized to enable them.
I suspect you are right, and 2-3 scribes is better.
The 1 mind funeral could be anything, breaking or something else. If some scribes get cut, whatevers in that slot would go up.

It's not like they're going to have 15 mana any time soon. Literally ANY instant-speed GY hate (except Grafdigger's Cage specifically) would suffice. Relic of Progenitus comes to mind. So does Leyline of the Void or Rest in Peace (if you're esper). Tormod's Crypt is a thing too.
