How often have you boarded in Fecundity? Has it worked well? The 3 CMC seems like it might be unreliable with our low land count, resulting in it coming out too late to be effective.
You know, I never really considered how much Hope of Ghirapur could mess with Modern combo/control decks until now. Have you playtested it any? How has it worked out?
I haven’t had the chance to use it much as I just put it in the SB. But, I did get a chance to use it against UW Control on my way home at the airport. I landed it on turn three right before he blew up the field. I netted four or five cards, which turned into a three or four card drop whacking away. But, the testing just started. From what I can see, it’s going to be a tick before I find a good blend between the anti-control cards.
@Bowen
I have tested it extensively and I have won many a matche because it i.e. popping it right before turn four avoiding a sweeper, or chaining locking them out of two turns of spells, or popping it right before they go off. But, by far the most fun I had with HoG is when I canceled out an ancestral recall or double rift bolt. Though, how many times have I lost because I needed just a bit more board power in the form of BTE? IDK. But, since I’m going Gruul (light) I’m willing to give her another go.
I'm new around here but I've been running a lot of leagues with this deck (very slightly tweaked version of UnvoicedTugboat's list above) and been doing OK. One 5-0, a couple 4-1's and a LOT of 3-2's.
Main thoughts:
- The mana absolutely sucks. I cannot count the number of games I've lost to not having a 2nd or 3rd land and not hitting it until way too late. I should have done this a couple leagues ago, but I'm going up to 18 or 19 lands, and probably ditching the War Zones. Unfortunately there aren't any cycling lands that ETB untapped...
- Piledriver seems to do pretty much stone nothing in this deck. If I replace it with a 2 drop, I think the 2 drop has pretty much got to have haste. It's just way too slow and fragile. I'm OK trading a 1 mana creature for a Push, especially if it got in for 2 or 3 damage, but Piledriver usually just hits the board (using up a whole turn's worth of mana because of the issue above) and then dies.
- First strike from Loyalist has been great, allowing me to swing through a Wurmcoil with a wide board and kill them before the lifelink kicks in.
- Playing against any kind of 1-for-1-plus-value deck (Grixis, Jeskai, etc.) where they get Snapcaster / Electrolyze / Kcommand is absolutely brutal and usually impossible to recover from. With the increase of the cheap graveyard decks (RB Cycling, As Foretold Living End) I am seriously considering Leylines to shut off this incremental advantage as well as to shut down graveyard decks.
- In that vein, I'm very interested in either Genesis Chamber or Shapers' Sanctuary as mentioned above. Anyone have any thoughts on those? Green splash also gets Tin Street Hooligan / Ancient Grudge / maybe Atarka's Command?
Overall I love the deck but when it stumbles it stumbles HARD. Hoping increasing the land count will help with this. Chime in if you've got other thoughts on the above.
I absolutely agree on Piledriver. The card is great, but with push and the-like out there, is too fragile. One option was to ditch it, but I opted for a claim // fame package that works wonders with the whole deck.
+1 in loyalist, going through lingering souls is brutal.
GY-wise, I am playing rakdos goblins and rakdos charm is getting things done for me. A singleton Nihil spellbomb is also nice to cycle and get some value.
You can check my 75 in my signature. I am on 2 copies, and I find it to be what we want. It is great to see them t3+, but they feel horrible if you have 2 in your initial hand.
no prob. If you click in the blue box under this reply "Modern (click to show)", my modern decks will be shown, and you can find a link to tappedout "Dark Goblins" where you will find the list.
In any case, here is a not very tidy display of the latter:
I have not seen a successful list make use of Warren Instigator yet and I've been monitoring goblins for two to three years. But, if you think this bugger can break open a viable deck get brewing and tapping!

You like many other goblin lords have mentioned that this meta is not prime for Goblins. I felt that pain at GP OKC. In this current meta I cannot recommend Genesis Chamber enough. It was the single most abused card in my SB and yes I won matches with it at GP OKC against control decks.
They jury is out on Shaper's Sanctuary as it is new to my SB. If given enough time I'll have an answer for everyone, but please share the load.
Tin Street Hooligan and Ancient Grudge are musts IMO. At GP OKC I fought a Lantern "Pro Player"...it was demoralizing. He crushed the competition with a 10 and something win streak. And, Robots are still a thing. In a fun match up with nothing on the line, I challenged a Robot player. I lost most if not all the time because he drew Cranial Plating every single game out of 10 games on turn one - very very very lucky. With all this, my collective knowledge with goblins and first hand experience with the current meta in a Gobots list my recommendations for a SB are...
Here is the reasoning. If you are playing Gobots you can race combo and beat any true aggro deck minus elves and auras. If they become a thing again we can side in Ratchet Bomb or Engineered Explosives. Every SB needs anti-artifact, that is a no brainer, and the best out there are Tin Street Hooligan and Ancient Grudge. but, Control is where we lack, and it IS the meta. Instep anti-control cards: Genesis Chamber, Shaper's Sanctuary, and Fecundity. Lastly, Tron is everywhere and they have many answers to pretty much everything, which is where the anti-activated abilities cards come into play: Pithing Needle, Sorcerous Spyglass, and Damping Matrix.

Oh, and those interested in a Goblin list that beats the snot out of control decks and wins with goblin beats? Check this one out. But, bring your wallet as this deck is price exclusive.
I have won so may games with this deck. Here is how it plays. In the early turns you lock your opponent out of the game. Note, once you drop Chalice you can go on the offensive with Rabble and krenko as most removal spells cost one. And, Once you drop Bridge your hoard can build up with zero cards in hand. Drop a Animosity and slap your opponent for Cranial Plating like Goblins. lol Note, this version is more one dimensional as you only have disruption and no real interaction and can only attack for the win. But, most of all the time a lock piece gives you a free win. If they don't scoop you can crack there skulls with a some very angry goblins.

diateone - no Chieftains in here?
Curious about your SB plan - if you have a sec to give a breakdown of your boarding strategies, I'd appreciate it as it's a big departure from my basically mono-red board.
Here's my Atarka Goblins list I built post GP Detroit /Eldrazi Winter last year. I break it out occasionally to catch slower meta's off guard, suffers a lot Vs lots of removal so I am trying out the Reforge in the sb.
Yeah, I read the core guide page 1 and it's a good overview of the possibilities
But concretely I don't know if the options presented are that good against the current decks we face regularly (Tron, Eldrazi, Burn, DS, Affi, Devoted Druid, Scapeshift..)
I think my decklist is a bit too old to compete against some of the new decks out here
I saw Goblin Heelcutter and Kari Zev's Expertise being interesting options but I don't really know if they're worth it or not
Plus it seems it's less and less good to run Goblin Piledriver and Goblin Chieftain because of Fatal Push
Even some Blood Moon are played from what I heard. Isn't that too much of a slow card for a Gob deck?

Regarding Blood Moon - Beside Goblins I mostly play Skred/Ponza/RBBlitz -> It's a freewincard vs. players not paying attention to their manabase or something like 5C-Humans, JeskaiControl, etc. and helps vs Tron - that is the reason to play it. Been awhile since I played my gobbos deck, but I've always liked the mono red versions. My question for you guys who have been keeping up with it is this; for those versions running 19 mountains or 17 mountains +2 contested warzone, how practical would jamming X Ramunap Ruins over X mountains be? I get that getting to 5 lands is a rare phenomenon, but I have to imagine that it dealing 1 damage to us to use it as a red source is not going to matter that often, we are the beatdown the vast majority of the time.
Something in-between I guess, but I like it nonetheless. If I go back to playing Goblins in Modern, I'll probably try it in addition to Fanatics (4-2 split).

I've been playing monored goblins for a while now and I'm seeking for advice in order to enhance my deck a bit
This is what I run since ages -> http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/rotten-blitz/
I really wish to stay monored, I have always despised spending hundreds in lands
Any advice?
