Still need Ringleader to make the midrange Goblins a thing in Modern. And since we are dreaming, Incinerator, too.

Incinerator could be a thing as cycling is in the set. But I doubt for ringleader. Maybe some other goblin based card advantage. But I highly doubt that they will copy a legacy deck almost 1 to 1 into modern.

Are there any decent lists running around at the moment?
After seeing the spoiler in MH and that Goblins are on the meny I'd like to buy into an established list to get me started (Even if MH turns out to disapoint).

I see the first page hasn't been updated since 2016. Are the lists there still relevant?

I’m in the middle of brewing right now, starting with a midrange build based on Aether Vial and Warren Instigator. Basically the Legacy deck transferred into Modern.

Not sure if that‘s the way to go though. What do you think?

This is what I'm testing atm. Nothing special, I chose those cards as a starting point. Testing vs Jund, Burn and 8whack to see how it goes.

Those 'Horizon' duals (Horizon Canopy, modern Horizons etc) lands are great for us as well. I've had games where I drew all 4 copies of Ramunap Ruins and no other lands and still didn't feel like the pain was an issue since we are always the aggressor. Some number of Red Horizons are going to great.

I will skip the midrange version to begin with.

My vision atm is a couple of turns slower aggro deck with more answears than 8whack.
Any cards that deserves a place and that i have missed?

Another Goblin spoiled today, and I doubt it’ll be the last. Finally getting thrown some bones.

Now that we have tutoring in the form of Matron and Goblin Engineer, is it worth including a singleton Murderous Redcap and a Metallic Mimic or two to always threaten the combo? I already planned on including Claim//Fame anyway since it plays so nicely with so many of our cards, and that’ll give me another way (besides saccing an Aether Vial) to get Mimic out of the yard. It may all be too cumbersome, but I’m going to at least brew on it a bit.

I’m so excited Gobbos are finally getting some love.

I meant with Goblin Engineer. Tutor Skirk Prospector and Murderous Redcap with Goblin Matron, and tutor Metallic Mimic with Goblin Engineer.

You could get Mimic out of the yard by saccing an Aether Vial or just by using Claim // Fame. I already intend on using Claim//Fame because it pairs really nicely with Warren Instigator (who just got a whole lot better with Goblin Matron), as well as quite a few of our other cards (looking at you Munitions Expert, Goblin Cratermaker, etc.)

Got a new Sac outlet in the form of Sling-Gang Lieutenant! I’m telling ya man, Midrange Goblins with an “oops I comboed” element is gonna happen.

Really excited by the new goblin cards. Below is a list that I’ve been hoping to test for some time, but just been busy playing other decks. Would welcome thoughts.



Think Matron will easily take place of Sensation Gorger, as this was only in the deck for some redundancy.

Do people think Munitions Expert will be maindeck or sideboard?

Sling-gang seems like a reasonable sideboard card.

I’m also in very high spirits about the new cards!

Matron is definitely the full playset for me. As for Munitions Expert, I‘d be looking to play 3-4. Since Modern is quite the creature-heavy format, this should have a target most of the time. Because it’s trigger happens etb, Expert also counts for itself (a little something in exchange for not getting Gempalm Incinerator‘s carddraw. Who knows, it might even become the primary removal for goblins in the future? I think it will certainly be good.

You missed 2 Goblin Guides in the ‚Spells‘ category by the way.

So, Wizards crushed ours Ringleader dreams with Goblin Oriflamme. What now ?

I intend the new Sling gang. For the ringleader spot i had reserved, dont know yet.

Maybe Wizards can't give for us Ringleader indeed but some funcional reprint.
If not so, I'll be very frustrantes. :/

I agree with this, I hope for some card advantage stapled onto a Goblin, otherwise much crying shall take place.
