I'm the same guy as IamSpeck, I just can't remember the password and made a new account when I was at work, anyway.
I'm very happy with Flame of Keld so far. I wouldn't run more than two as a second copy in any hand is useless, but the card gives you reach in games where they are able to disrupt you early.
White splash, while not a must, I highly recommend. The sideboard hate in white is just so strong. I'm considering upping to three copies of both stony silence and rest in peace. Cutting Harsh Mentor, which is good against Devoted Druid combo, but doesn't hit as many decks as the white cards.
The dismembers I feel are just necessary evils for the humans match-up. You need as many one mana kill spells as possible.
I haven't faced much control decks so far. I really hadn't tested the deck that much as I don't really get to test outside of actual tournaments. Before I had been playing rakdos burn, which is at least similar.
Humans is the worst MU, though from my experience its tough to beat them with removal, as they deploy so many threats efficiently.
I am considering a different approach: push early dmg and finish of with a falter effect, the best one I found so far is Ruthless Invasion.
If anyone is willing to test it too would be great If goblins can improve the creature MUs (like humans, spirits) I believe this could be a Tier1 deck.
Try Gruul Charm. It can also cause Spirits and Auras some heartburn with its ability to swat flyers out of the sky at instant speed. One card Humans hate is Torpor Orb, but this card hurts us too unless you have a way to pop it prior to a whack attack.
I finally found out how to record my matches on MTGO. So, if you are wanting to see Gobots in action tap the LINK. Note, this is my first rodeo using youtube. So, the quality of the games need to be improved, and I would like to capture live instead of post game. This way, you can see everything as it is happening instead of a fast-forward capture.
In these matches I faced:
- Humans: 2-0-1
- UWR: 2-0-0
do you play the artifact version a lot? can you tell us a bit more about it?
Im on classic R / Rw 8-whack lists, I saw a simmiliar list to yours somewhere on hareruya but was a little reluctant to invest in opals to try it
Yes. I've played it for years. It is very fast and focuses on simply going wide and hitting often. Note, there are zero interaction creatures and spells outside of Hope of G...(I can't spell that card for my life). I do not know what hareruya is, but there are versions without Mox Opal you can play. Those builds make use of Burning-Tree Emissary and Atarka's Command.
a few thoughts though (I am only theorycrafting as I didnt play the deck yet myself):
- no lightning bolt? It is a card I cant really imaging cutting from a r-aggro deck, it is just too efficient. Gives additional reach, clears the way
- did you try cutting below 16 lands? with the opals it feels much
- with 16 gobbos wouldnt you try to fit at least 1-2 goblin grenades for extra reach?
- 4x omnithopter seems a bit much, its dmg output is relatively limited even with whack effects
- hope of ghirapur seems like a bad card overall, would need to see it in work to get convinced
- I feel like the added value of cavern doesnt make up for the constraints it puts on other-then goblin red spells
No, I have not cut below 16 lands. If you feel that lands need to be cut I would suggest adding fetches over cutting.
HoG has aided me quite a few times in sealing the deal, but Burning-Tree Emissary is a great alternative. Both are choice picks at this time.
Cavern of Souls puts little to no tax on non-goblin cards minus Kuldotha Rebirth. If you add BTE, then you will need to reduce CoS down to three and play test.
As for the burn, I only support Atarka's Command for this deck build. For Lighting Bolt and Goblin Grenade, I could answer this question; however, my response will not alter your opinion. You need to play the deck to understand it better.
I think this guys is just awesome, 'cause it's good at any circunstances.
For example: if we play him turn 1, he could do alone 4 dmg at turn 2; if we play turn 4, with 4 manas in the BF, he could do 6 dmg alone (no blockers!)
Summarazing, this little boy is good at any moment of the match! I think it's just too broken.
I don‘t think that works the way you presented:
Mentor says „on target attacking creature with lesser power“.
Even if you pump Banneret beforehand, the ability checks for its actual power (which then would be 3/5/7/...). So - correct me if I‘m wrong - Mentor cannot be used for the creature having the ability. Also, mentoring is supposed to be ‚guiding less experienced individuals‘, meaning weaker creatures in this case.
In my opinion, playing Goblins you should prioritize swarming the board over pumping one little guy. If you reach turn 6+, the situation probably looks dire anyway.

I wasn’t clear what you were trying to say, but as long as you’ve pumped h8m before declaring the attack, the mentor ability will trigger. His “actual” power is irrelevant. It’s about his power at the time he attacks.
It doesn‘t matter when you pump: Mentor triggers either way and checks for a creature with less than 1 (if no pump) or less than 3/5/7/... power (if pump). Banneret cannot have less power than it has when the ability checks.

Seems like a decent card; however, having the two extra mana is going to be an issue early game. Maybe by turn four in traditional goblins you can activate his effect. But, where its going to activate is off a Whacker. I think he will get more use in Gobots since it packs eight zero costing creatures and signal pest increases the attack. You would just have to select the trigger for pest prior to Banneret.
spec.ops I enjoy your fast paced YT videos to get a feel for the deck, keep posting them!
btw: r-click "attack with all creatures" will make your life easier
Haha thanks man! I am new to this, but I am learning. I have now started combining all match rounds into one video. And, I plan to do audio in the December so my matches will be real time captures.
Oh, and since all my videos are replays, MTGO for some reason shows me clicking on all my creatures when it’s actually MTGOs replay feature. I do not know why they have it that way but it’s how they have it captured. :S
CotV is choice as it stops Terminus, Opt, Oust, Path to Exile, Serum Visions, and other spells. However, it shuts off a 16-20 cards in Gobots. lol So, I don't think trumping our opponent by trumping ourselves is a good idea.
WW is a colorless counter! So, we don't have to splash blue, but are we ever going to have two mana up? And, trying to counter blue is just asking to be slapped around like Robin.
RtS refills the hand, but so does his and we work of limited mana so the casting cost alone could cause some problems, but I like it better than the above two.
StM rips it out of their deck which is where its hiding. And, it works on combo decks. But, We would need to splash black to use it. :/
Just to let you know, CotV doesn't shut off terminus since the mana cost of terminus is always 6.
I just found that out while posting in the Stompy thread. Who knew casting Terminus for one was not countered by CotV. That card seems to get around EVERYTHING.
But, on a side note I got a few more videos created and this time I've added some music in the back ground.
And, I drafted a Gobots Primer. I need to discuss it with the mods, but if anyone wants to review it PM me so I can send it your way.
My first findings:
- sideboard is outdated, not worth discussing, besides the fact that I really liked the bitterblossom idea
- darksteel citadel was awful
- the deck feels amazing with Rebirth on T1 and very mediocre without it
- deck is explosive but much less consistent then typical 8whack lists
- bomat was suprisingly a must-kill target
I really want to play in a league, but I don’t know much about them. :/
Ah, that’s Maurizio Savoia’s list...I have no idea how that list beat out 127 players. I can only guess he did enough damage on the ground to then sit back and lob reach at the opponent. But, that’s more 8Whack strategy than Gobots. More power to him though for making it work.
I am not sure what you mean but not knowing about leagues, but there is not much to know. After you sign up wit a decklist you just need to play 5 games. You can play them anytime until the league closes (each leagues season takes a few months). You are matched with random players, so being 4-0 doesnt mean you will go against other 4-0.

It is very frustrating to set up a lighting fast T3 clock to be smacked down by Terminus T1.
That card breaks aggro.
So, my question to you guys is how do you deal with it?
Are there any cards in our arsenal of Red that can deal with it?
Edit:
So, I've found these cards to help out:
