Do you all see that impossible to play a vial goblin deck in modern? Now that we got warchief don't you see possible to play something with vials, warchiefs, piledrivers, chieftains, warren instigators, krenkos, vials or something like that? I know we are missing some crucial pieces of "Legacy Goblins" deck, specially Ringleader, who is the most important one for me, but, isn't it possible to give it a try?
Yep I wanted to try it on my weekly testing with my friends this thursday but I was wondering if someone else has ever tried something similar to share some thoughts ^^
Hm...so skirk prospector and goblin warchief are coming back. Sharpshooter is a no go based on name/number research, but sparksmith could pop up I think. I'm hopeful because with this kind of goblin synergy WOTC needs to have a solid number of goblins for it to be a viable draft archetype.
I'm just gonna say this.... With Skirk Prospector being now Modern Legal, we have gained access to an infint damage combo using only goblins. I mean, Metallic Mimic and Murderous Redcap are all Goblins

Sorry for the bad english, not my native language!!!
I’m new to this forum but I have played goblins in standard a few years back and it was awesome. I’m going to build a deck with murderous redcap and Skirk prospector for sure. Anybody else jumping on this train? Seems like it will be nice to be aggro with an oops infinite combo. Decklist below for reference:
I feel like Mimic is too slow? I dunno needs testing I'm just throwing a guess out there.
I'm more curious about splashing white, because I have a massive boner for Goblin Bidding, and adding three copies of Rally the Ancestors. Rally at X=3 returns warchief and all associated goblins to play...this is something I want to do at least once in modern.
It is slow, and extremly clumky. It's just a little instant-win combo that a Goblins deck could add to the deck without to much trouble.
The bad thing about this is that the card required for the combo dosen't work out very well with the rest of the deck.

Yeah it feels like I'd rather just be playing some counters company variant at that point. I will probably end up trying my Rally idea because it has a few things that just come to mind as being cool:
1. Only needs 2-3 deck slots
2. Sets up alpha strikes against grindy decks on your own turn thanks to some split of warchief and chieftain giving haste and pump
3. Sets up a high damage instant speed combo with prospector and siege gang commander where essentially every 3 goblins = two damage, as you sac two to prosector and a third to use the two mana to activate SGC once. Which sounds crazy except its A) instant speed and B) between SGC and war marshall it is surprisingly easy to get a dozen or so goblins and goblin tokens out.
I think these new cards, more than anything, will lead to a split between goblin aggro as 8 whack is definitely more explosive, but the potential of using warchief to add some higher cost goblins has huge value.
I know ringleader just wont' be reprinted, but I will cross my fingers for a lesser version like
Mini Ringleader
2R
Creature - Goblin Soldier
Look at the top two cards of your library, reveal any goblin cards and add them to your hand, then put the rest in your graveyard

I don't think Warchief will be good in this deck even if you're playing a more creature-focused build without the token makers. You've got to ask yourself how many goblins you expect it to cost-reduce. Cost reduction is only great if you're getting discounts on multiple spells per turn. If your deck has a whole bunch of creatures costing just R and no Matron/Ringleader (kinda like Gifts Ungiven in Storm, an expensive spell that gets reduced AND finds you more things to reduce), you probably won't get a lot out of it.
The Dirty Kitty build seems pretty interesting. But I am scared that without any source of Card Draw except Fecundity it will struggle a lot to get the Skirk Prospector + Fecundity combo needed. The Original build had a playset Goblin Matron as reliable tutor. As stated above the missing piece of the puzzle is something that gives us card advantage based on a synergy with goblins. But it does not need to be a Matron or Ringleader reprint. As long as we get more cards to our hand it will enable a less aggressive style of deck.
Well there's nothing in red for that. Green has options like Collected Company, and yeah you can use prospector to accelerate CoCo to turn 3 by saccing a token or something.
For the longest time... years.... I've been trying to figure out "how do I get card draw in Goblins?"
It seems to be the holy grail, if we could suddenly draw a few more cards on turn 3-4, instead of being empty handed and out of answers, it would turn this deck around.
I've been looking at Dirty Kitty variants (because the original ran on an engine we can't reproduce in Modern, aside from Prospector/Fecundity), and I think there's some potential there, but you'd have to compromise somewhere. It's good to have the all-out agro plan (that's what Goblins do best), with a combo backup... but it's very easy to add some non-essential cards to that recipe thinking they are helping you, when really you are just adding fat to a deck that should be lean and mean.
I'm only saying this as food for thought.... I don't have an answer yet... but I tell you, the wheels are turning. There should be something here to take advantage of, I just don't know what yet. Whether it's a storm-type variant (take out the bold/grenade burn elements and instead drop in the ok Rituals that are available in Modern), or some hybrid which it already is.... I don't know. It needs testing, and I'm not in a position to put in the time and work.
It's a great thought experiment though... a cute idea. Dirty Kitty isn't in Modern, but some weird version of it might still be viable. (Keeping in mind.... even in it's prime, Dirty Kitty was a fun deck, but not exactly a format buster.) I'm still wondering if there's a different Modern Goblin archetype out there with these new inclusions, but I also still thing these are sort of teases... hints of great Goblin cards in different decks that don't quite have the tools needed for great Modern. They are playing with us, teasing us. As soon as Matron or Ringleader show up, we are in business.... but until then, it's just a tease.

Modern : Solemnity Prison Martyr Proc Devotion to Green 8 Whacks Eldrazi Processor Bogles Landfall Aggro
Legacy : Goblins
Seems good!
Surprised nobody hasn't posted this yet.
Still need to look, play and test... would really love a Sharpshooter or a Ringleader. Ringleader would open up doors.
Referring to the flavor text. Still working in the mines after all these years. He's just waiting to be reprinted.
Now, all we need is a Ringleader reprint..
