Thanks. I tried using Gift of Orzhova tonight. It won me the match vs burn, but I didn't get to play it against affinity to see if it made a difference.
Having Flying over Trample in most cases will let your Bogle attack freely and hit your opponents hard.
Having Flying over Trample in a few cases means your Bogle can be chump blocked by tiny fliers (like Ornithopter or spirit token), and this is really bad for us
However, there's always Rancor for Trample and the 3CMC Aura won't show up most of the time anyway. So I guess it is worth trying.
In fact, I've just assembled a casual GW Constellation deck and cut the Unflinching Courage for Gift of Orzhova.
As for Mr_Bote question: a Draw Aura with +x/+x could really help.
Argothian Enchantress in modern is something I wouldn't complain about
May 1CMC Umbras with different abilities, like Trample, Vigilance and Lifelink.
Well, I didn't play Bogles at FNM this week. I ran Collected Company Junk and it was pretty fun. But I did play it at a GPT Las Vegas. There were only 25 players for 5 rounds.
Round 1 vs. Grixis Delver. I didn't draw lifelink in either game, but his double Gitaxian Probe and my early Bogle with Auras enabled me to outrace his Delver. I did a Path to Exile on Gurmag Angler and drew Rancor in time to get past his other Delver. In the next game, I just had the answers for what he played and when he went for lethal with his creatures, I did Nature's Claim on my own Rancor. Then I suited it back up (it had Spirit Mantle on it), I swung for the final life point that he was at. This player is just a starting player from my LGS. I believe he's played 6 months, but he likes Modern. He plays whatever he can borrow usually, but finally put together Delver with his own money. I felt a bit bad that he dropped at 0-3 later on. 2-0.
Round 2 vs. Jund. In the first game, I had a weak mull to 6. He rips my Bogle, but I draw another. I eventually win with this Bogle when I draw a fetchland on time. It turned out that he didn't play a Liliana and I eventually get there with Spirit Mantle. In the game 2, I get there with a some Bogles when his hand is pretty weak. Eventually, I draw some Auras and win pretty easily. There was a point in the first game when I was at 2 life and he Lightning Bolted my Kor Spiritdancer with an Aura draw on the stack. 2-0.
Round 3 vs. RWB Burn. I win the first game fairly easily despite no life gain. I get there with a suited Bogle before he can burn me out and he only had 1 Boros Charm. In the next game, I PUNT BADLY. Don't ever do stupid mistakes like this. He blocks my 6/6 First Strike Bogle with his Gurmag Angler and does Boros Charm to give it double strike. I am completely confused. I ask him if he's sure and he is. Then I ask him if a 5/5 double strike creature can beat a 6/6 first strike creature in battle and then he realizes that Daybreak Coronet gave first strike. He took it back and did indestructible instead. I do Path to Exile, but he lands Eidolon of the Great Revels after a topdecked Crackling Doom. I draw only lands and Auras and lose to 10 damage on attacks to the Eidolon, which I would have been able to Path to Exile. On the final turn before lethal, I draw Kor Spiritdancer, but his one card is Boros Charm with me at 4 life. That card is pretty damn good. In the last game, he got an early Eidolon and did double Crackling Doom on my creatures. I lose creatures and double Boros Charm is game. Did I tell you that Boros Charm is an amazing card? Now I gotta win one more. 1-2.
Round 4 vs. 4 Color Gifts. In the first game, he rips my hand apart with double Thoughtseize into Snapcaster Mage/Thoughtseize. I had a poor hand and my draws couldn't get me out of it. I did mulligan a hand that probably would have won if I had a creature and alas, a Bogle was on top. In the next game, I get there with a bunch of Bogles and Dryad Arbors. He ripped cards from my hand, but took a lot from Thoughtseizes and shocklands. In the final game, I turn 0 Leyline of Sanctity. This makes it really tough for him. He does an early Thoughtseize on himself to rip Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite to the graveyard. It was a race to Unburial Rites Elesh Norn. He activated Creeping Tar Pit to block a 1/1, but I have Path to Exile. On the final turn, he drew Unburial Rites, but only had 4 mana. He jokingly told me that I Path'd his Creeping Tar Pit, to which I replied that I replaced it with Plains. Crazy game. 2-1.
Round 5 vs. Twin. This was Tom LaPille again. He beat me in the 4th round of States, so when we could draw into the top 8, it was an easy choice. This is especially so since I have not really found a way to beat Twin other than outdrawing them. 0-0-3.
Top 8 vs. Mono Green Devotion. I started fairly slowly and he played some Carven Carytid. I got him low, but he drew enough ramp for a turn 5 Tooth and Nail entwined for Emrakul and Xenagod. I realized at this point that if I saved my Path to Exile instead of using it on his Arbor Elf (scared of Utopia Sprawl shenanigans and wasn't going to be able to leave White up to Path with Utopia Sprawl on the stack), I could have Path'd Xenagod, sacced permanents and left myself with Bogle and Spirit Mantle. Like I said, this tournament was pretty poor for me play wise. In the 2nd game, I get an early Kor Spiritdancer, which I go all-in on instead of my Dryad Arbor. He does a Fracturing Gust with the attack about to do lethal. I regroup with recasting my double Rancor and swing for lethal next turn. In the final game, there's not much to say. I got a turn 2 Gaddock Teeg, which shuts down everything big that they're trying to do. I get him big with Rancor and Daybreak Coronet and he does an Unravel the Aether on Rancor to make Daybreak Coronet drop off, but I regroup and come back with another Coronet and by the time he casts Ruric Thar, the Unbowed, I am at 26 life and have Spirit Mantle for lethal. Kor Spiritdancer is a HUGE problem for some decks. 2-1.
Top 4 vs. RWB Burn The same opponent from Round 3. In the first game, he does Eidolon of the Great Revels and I have a Bogle with Spirit Mantle. I am forced to leave it back. He gets double Goblin Guide and Grim Lavamancer, but I just never draw a lifelink Aura until the final turn where I draw Daybreak Coronet at 6 life with Eidolon of the Great Revels in play and 2 cards in his hand. I take 2 and he does Boros Charm. In the next game, I have an explosive hand, but he does double Deflecting Palm on consecutive turns. I could have played around the 2nd one, which was obviously lethal, but I just conceded to if he drew his 2 Deflecting Palm in his first 11 cards of the game. I should have just played a bit safer, but I felt that if he drew all of his Deflecting Palm and Crackling Doom, then he really deserved to win more than me. He showed me the 2 cards in his hand, which were Crackling Doom and Wear/Tear. 0-2.
I finish 4-2-1, which is a pretty poor record, but I did some obvious punts. I got just 3 Modern Masters packs for my effort. I lost to Burn twice. I actually think that it's a poor matchup since they will always draw enough Crackling Doom (I didn't actually know that Burn played this), Deflecting Palm, Skullcrack, and/or Atarka's Command. Also their land base usually gives them 3 mana by turn 3 and only 1 or 2 afterward. He drew 0 Monastery Swiftspear against me. I even considered not boarding in Leyline of Sanctity in the final game because he will win with Deflecting Palms and Crackling Doom, but I decided to force him to continue to have it. Good luck Boglers and don't allow take backs in Competitive play.

I'm currently building Grixis Delver. I was going to keep around bogles as a backup deck, mainly as something to revert to if it becomes insane/Grixis Delver starts sucking. However, I was just thinking that I could probably get everything I need for Delver by selling cards from bogles. However, what value cards do you guys think will be in MM2, and which cards will miss it? I have 4 Coronets, 4 Leylines, and 1 Canopy.
I personally don't think that any of those cards will be in Modern Masters. Daybreak Coronet and Leyline of Sanctity have the smallest chance. Horizon Canopy has some chance, but personally I doubt it. I would sell Coronet. I don't see it going higher. Leyline will probably stay the same or slowly rise. Horizon Canopy will stay the same unless reprinted.
Grixis Delver is a sweet deck, no doubt, but it doesn't compare to Bogles though.

What makes you think this? I was under the impression that if a notable card like Coronet for example isn't reprinted it will almost certainly rise. I honestly don't think $35 is close to the ceiling of it, it was from a super under opened set, and plus it's broken in half. If that's the case though, sweet! Snaps will rise, and so will the couple shocks I need, so I will be glad to pick them up before they spike!
And bogles will always hold a very special place in my heart. I'm gonna miss it a lot. There's nothing like the look on your opponent's face when they see that turn 1 bogle, as they prepare themselves for the most un-interactive round of magic ever.
That's part of the reason I'm switching over to delver, though, as part of me wants something that's more "fair" and interacts more with the opponent. That, and I'm a Spike at heart, so while I do quite good at FNM, I always get my ass handed to me at bigger events.

This is one of my favorite things too! I actually enjoy watching them react facially to the fetch, then land, expecting maybe Noble Hierarch or maybe Wild Nacatl, then seeing a much more HATED creature and deck type.
I doubt that Coronet will be reprinted because Bogles is really a very fringe deck. I would be surprised if anyone showed me that Bogles is more than 3% at the most of the whole metagame. Also it rarely top 8s any important events, probably mainly because the "better players" don't prefer to play it. Coronet also would have to be in a draft set where presumably there would be other Auras. Or else it can get really tough to cast one. I know that eventually it "will be reprinted" since it has the odd Future Sight border, but this will be somewhere way down the road in another Enchantment block some day. I guess it could rise a little bit at a time, but it really is not a popular deck by any means.

Yeah I know! I remember back when TC was legal and UR Delver was 15% of the meta, bogles was a stupidly good matchup against delver (and it still is). The delver players were always extra pissed about my deck, and I could often hear them cuss under their breath about the game they were about to lose. Those were the days...;)
And to my knowledge, bogles is fairly popular. I mean it's tier 2, and not one of the top tier 2 decks either like Bloom Titan or Jund, but 90% of people I have played know about the deck, and those 3 cards are known for being some of the most expensive modern cards.
My local meta has been flooded with Red decks. Not just burn, but aggressive decks like goblins and some all-in sligh deck too. While I have done well with Junk, I was thinking that running Bogle with some extra life gain cards could really put a hurting on the meta.
So, Is Bogle heavily favored against those types of decks or am I not seeing the whole picture?
Thanks in advance!

So what do you think we need to make us a more consistent deck?
Another 1cc hexproof creature?
Another 2cc lifelink with +x/+x
A 2cc draw aura with +x/+x
Thoughts?
Something that would be nice would be this:
G
Enchantment - Aura
Flash
Equipped creature gets +1/+1 and hexproof
Something to solidify how glass cannon Spiritdancer can be. Would be good to run 1-2 copies main. Also nice with dryad arbor.
Question for all you Boglers out there:
For a large event (GP or online PPTQ) would you rather have 2 spellskites main or 2 Suppression Field? Also, are you playing any graveyard hate in the board?

I'm a fan of that aura, would def help getting dryad arbor safe.
I've played both, and now that Pod is banned I would much rather have 2 spellskite main. At its worst it's a 0/4 creature you can suit up. Suppression field doesn't let you suit up and can also hurt your own fetch lands and Horizon Canopy draws, not to mention it can be a completely dead card against some decks. The only matchups I'd rather have suppression field is vs affinity and abzan infinite combo. Just my two cents.
I personally sideboard 2 Rest In Peace for Living End, Grixis Delver, and dredge. I even side one copy in vs anything with goyf
I have 2 Rest in Peace in my SB just for Tarmogoyf. Every once in a while, I side them in against something else like Dredge, Lingering Souls/Unburial Rites decks, etc.
As for Spellskite vs. Suppression Field, I would rather have Spellskite. I actually have been too chicken to finally take the final 3 copies of Suppression Field out of the SB for myself, since I remember "the good old times" vs. Twin, a deck that I haven't won more than 33% of my matches against anyway. (my worst matchup)

The one reason I am debating suppression field is this:
It is intrinsically better across the board against many of the non premier match ups... While still being a catch for twin. It's good against Abzan G1 vs Lilliana. It's great against Tron, Living End, all PWs, 3 color decks, etc. plus it's an easy card to side out when it has no value. To be fair, I do like skite, quite a bit.

Did you have any problems with exiling your own Rancor? I personally use Relic of Progenitus, but I didn't have Rest In Piece till yesterday. I wonder if it is worth replacing the Relic with it.
By the way, played an 8-man Modern at GP São Paulo today. Faced an UR Storm. First game I assembled Spirit Mantle and a few other auras to strike for 12 unblockable damage before he could combo. Game 2 I opened with 2 Fastlands, Bogle, Coronet, Spirit Mantle and Spider Umbra. It was supposed to be the perfect hand, but he used Desperate Ritual for Blood Moon on Turn 2, so no Auras for my Bogle. Game 3 I mulled to five and failed to find an aura. Since it was single elimination, no more games for me.
Rancor getting exiled rarely comes up with Rest in Peace. I only play 2 copies in my side anyway. Rest in Peace is a must answer and requires Abrupt Decay to be played on it. Relic can be played around because they can attack and force us to use it. I played Relic probably the first 3 months with the deck, 9 months ago. Rest in Peace also just shuts down some graveyard decks completely when they don't have the answer, but continue to drop potentially threatening stuff in the yard. As a player that knows all about graveyard shenanigans because I love them myself, I am much more scared of Rest in Peace than Relic of Progenitus.
Storm does seem like a tough matchup. I have only played against it twice and honestly the only reason I won is because they blanked on their draws. I don't think it's normally a winnable matchup unless Rest in Peace lines up with their Past in Flames, Path to Exile lines up with Goblin Electromancer, or Nature's Claim lines up with Pyromancer Ascension. We basically have to have X for their Y, which is a poor situation to be in.
*Besides, I hardly mind Rancor being a +2/+0 instant that gives Trample if RIP shuts down a big part of someone's deck. Rancor is SO good that even at that, it's amazing.

I must say that I'm not quite sold on Rest in Peace as a sideboard card against Junk. Tarmogoyf is mostly just a dude which is the part of the deck that we can handle. In some matches you will slow him down with a Rest in Peace but it's just as likely that he doesn't draw any cards affected by it at all. It does affect Lingering Souls and Tasigur to some extent, but some of those will likely be boarded out. Something like Spellskite will be guaranteed to trade for Abrupt Decay, while the Rest in Peace can be ignored. Rest in Peace is great against some other decks like Storm and Living end, so it might be worth having in the sideboard, but it's not an all-star against Junk.

Norin the Wary, Grimgrin, Adun Oakenshield (taking forever to build)(dead format for me)I'm currently building Grixis Delver.

Grixis Delver is a sweet deck, no doubt, but it doesn't compare to Bogles though.

Norin the Wary, Grimgrin, Adun Oakenshield (taking forever to build)(dead format for me)What makes you think this?

Norin the Wary, Grimgrin, Adun Oakenshield (taking forever to build)(dead format for me)Yeah I know!

Or used to be. Now that Deflecting Palm is a thinkg we need to be careful about doing tons of damage per attack.

Norin the Wary, Grimgrin, Adun Oakenshield (taking forever to build)(dead format for me)Something that would be nice would be this:
I will let you know in 2 weeks how it goes. I 5-0'd with Junk this week so I have to run it back next week.

Norin the Wary, Grimgrin, Adun Oakenshield (taking forever to build)(dead format for me)The one reason I am debating suppression field is this:
It is intrinsically better across the board against many of the non premier match ups... While still being a catch for twin. It's good against Abzan G1 vs Lilliana. It's great against Tron, Living End, all PWs, 3 color decks, etc. plus it's an easy card to side out when it has no value. To be fair, I do like skite, quite a bit.
Also ran into Phyrexian Obliterator...would much rather have had some Gift of Orzhova instead of Unflinching Courage
