Against Storm Leyline of Sanctity are decent as they force an answer before they can Grapeshot, and stopping Gifts Ungiven is also useful. However, I had one Storm opponent side out Gifts Ungiven and some Past in Flames to be less vulnerable to Gaddock Teeg/Leyline/Rest in Peace. Instead he took in Pieces of the Puzzle and went for a more straight forward storm plan. So be careful about oversideboarding too much and slowing yourself down.
Regarding the Kor Spiritdancer I just feel like it's not the best card, especially in multiples, and a long time ago I replaced one with a 21st land. But again, this is a meta dependent choice and the difference in results will be very marginal either way. Hard to say what is correct.
While I realized that I should have been specifically talking about Storm because it's the only deck nowadays that plays Gifts Ungiven, I was actually remembering playing against a GBx Gifts deck at my FNM. The guy did very well, but Leyline was especially a beating for him because he had all of the discard and Lilianas of GBx, but also had Gifts to go "over" other decks. He actually usually X-1ed (5-6 rounds) if he lost to me or X-0-1ed if he didn't face me. Good times and super good matchup for me.
I think vs. a deck like Storm that should have a good matchup vs. us and always has, we have to make sure to sideboard enough. I would personally put 4 Leyline, 3 Teeg, and 2 Rest in Peace (all of what I have), taking out less impactful Auras like 3 Spirit Mantle, 1 Spirit Link, 1 Gryff's Boon, 3 Kor Spiritdancer (swap 3 creatures for 3 creatures), and 1 Cartouche of Solidarity perhaps. I think we have to be wary of Blood Moon and to a lesser extent, possibly Anger of the Gods. The Totem Armors stay in for sure because they help protect Teeg (not from bounce, but from Bolt).

Played a very small tournament this week. We only had 10 players and I did pretty awful(1-2). I made a handful of misplays that cost me some games.I lost the race both times to Merfolk and Spirits.
On the plus side, I managed to finish my SB so hopefully I have better tools at my disposal. After the tournament, I reflected on the matches I played and realized that there is a lot to learn with this deck in terms of sequencing and lines of play. How did you guys learn the proper way to do this?
It is the only deck I play in modern. When you are first starting with it the deck is great as you can stumble your way through simple wins sometimes. A lot of people don't like the deck and think there isn't much play to it but those people are wrong.
I just started playing it myself. Only have about 10 games with it so far, but I am liking what I am seeing. It is pretty powerful and puts your opponents on a fast clock. They have to attempt to deal with the threat or get run over by it. To sum it up, I would say its a good deck.
I am New Auras player. Would you say it is a good deck?
Many thanks
I'm not sure what you mean by a "good deck." Is it solid for FNM? Definitely. I used to terrorize my FNM for years with the deck. Most players from my former FNM actually believe Bogles is a "good deck" because they are very results oriented, while I actually know that the deck is probably average at best and I could have won a lot more often with Splinter Twin or Bloom Titan.
As for right now. I do think the deck is underrated. I think it's a solid Tier 2 option and happens to do well vs. several Tier 1 decks. That is a good place to be. I personally think it's a bit underpowered and to be more succinct, bit inconsistent for a GP, but it seems that MatsT has proven me wrong there, posting a 12-3 with it.

Bogles is totally fine.
With the printing of assasin's trophy and uptick of Jund, BG midrange, Burn, it is probably time to move back to maindeck Leylines
I pray the day that Jund upticks. I have been waiting to go back to Titanshift myself and it hasn't been in a good place in a while now.

Actually most of my friends and shop mates critize me for starting with bogles. I really like this deck and actually it fits on my magic taste. But I am sad that everybody thinks I just wanna autowin
It is far from autowin. You will probably get game 1, but after they board in hate it changes how you play. I am a relative new Bogles player and I have found that sequencing is everything. I also catch all kinds of crap from the other players, but it is all in good fun. I have been dubbed "That damn Bogle guy" and I wear it with pride, lol.
Small tournament report for you guys from last nights tournament at my local. I ended up 1-2 and dropped before the 4th round. I ended up playing against Burn, Abzan Elves, and 5C Humans. I managed to backdoor a win off a 4 card hand against Burn, which was pretty cool. I lost against Elves because he just got there faster than I did. I did manage to slow him down by Pathing his Elvish Archdruid and Ezuri when he tried to play them early. He ended up rebuilding his field and went pretty wide, and I wasn't able to keep up. I had a hard time siding in for the Humans match up because I have never played against it. Left in the Leylines and sided out 4 Spiritdancers. I sided in 2 Path and 2 Dromokas Command, and was not able to stem the tide as he gained field advantage. So, for a quick breakdown:
2-0 against Burn
1-2 against Elves
1-2 against Humans
Can we all put our heads together can come up with an easy matchup/sideboard guide?
Round 1 vs. Burn. Yes! The main reason I chose Bogles tonight. I draw well and win pretty easily. Didn't get life gain until turn 4 in the first one, but had a good defense and he got stuck on 2 lands. Leyline of Sanctity before the next one started and DOUBLE Daybreak Coronet. That is a rare bird! 2-0.
Round 2 vs. UW Control. The friend I rode with to the FNM. In the first game, my first 9 draw steps are 8 lands and a 2nd Path to Exile (already had one in my opener). Lost this one. In the next game, I have quick pressure and he scoops before playing out his turn 4. In the final game, I have pressure and when he taps out for Cryptic Command, I land Gaddock Teeg. That spells game for him, as he can't find Path to Exile. He must be one of the most unlucky UW players because they always find X Path to Exile for X Gaddock Teeg. Only he doesn't, at least against me. 2-1.
Round 3 vs. Ad Nauseam. My other friend, who couldn't carpool with us today because he needed to pick something up from home. He wanted to play Dredge, as that's what he's been playing online. Another friend there who has played Dredge for his lifetime convinced him not to play it in paper the first time without some reps. I told him that it would be fine. Dredge honestly isn't that tough to play in my opinion. Also it would be nicer for Bogles (me) to play against Dredge. Nope, he listened to the other guy and ran me over with Ad Nauseam. I mull to an amazing 6 with Kor Spiritdancer - the card you want vs. Ad Nauseam. I have him dead on turn 4, but he kills me on turn 4. I losing die rolls. In the next game, he turn 4 plays Spoils of the Vault with Lab Man in play. My 6 card hand was not going to beat the following turn's Ad Nauseam + Angel's Grace anyway. Quick 4 minute match. 0-2.
Round 4 vs. GB. Disclaimer: I've beaten this guy something like 20 out of 22 times, so it would be frustrating to lose here. I win the only die roll I won tonight. Actually pretty solid average for me at 25%. I win game 1 with pressure and a fetchland up. Had everything. In the next game, I mulligan 2 zero land hands and get double Languish in this one. Still drew more Bogles to rebuild, but Liliana of the Veil ended that. It sucks drawing your 1 of Dryad Arbor. Can't beat that on 5? In the final game, I have a lot of early pressure, but it dies off. He ends up getting Nissa Worldwaker and then eventually triple Tireless Tracker. 3 Ass Trophies keep him from losing because every 4 draw steps, I draw something to kill him, but he makes an Ass out of that 4th draw step. He is at 1 life. I need to draw Gryff's Boon or the only Spirit Mantle I left in. The 2 Path to Exile that I left in do not cut it anymore, although they did when he was at 1 many turns ago until he flooded the board. I don't draw those and I lose. Actually nearly got there after getting a Kor Spiritdancer into Kor Spiritdancer and an Aura, but because I only had 4 lands in play, I didn't have quite enough to get the Bogle suited up enough and the 4th Assassin's Trophy got me. There were less than 20 cards in his library, so it's pretty much assumed he drew that at this point. Considered putting in Gaddock Teeg just for Languish. It's funny how a Nissa Worldwaker vs. nothing from me for 8 turns straight does wonders. Rough, rough beats. 1-2.
I go 2-2, which is pretty humbling. Just came back from the Denver Grand Prix Team Limited where we beat PGO (I beat Reid personally) and nearly beat the 2nd place finishers in the win-and-in to Day 2. But then come back and lose to a friend who I'm nearly 15-5 vs. lifetime and a guy who I've beaten +90% of the time. That's magic for ya! That's why people LOOOOOVE this game!

Yep, my bad. He played Spoils of the Vault and Angel's Grace on his upkeep after turn 3 Laboratory Maniac.
I sided out 3 Path to Exile. Even if I hadn't, had I left up White mana, it would have set my clock back a full turn.
*Question for you guys - do you side in Leyline of Sanctity against Dredge now? They have Conflagrate still, but now have Creeping Chill as well. Never mind, "each opponent," lol.

With Dredge gaining in popularity, what does our matchup look like against it? Any changes to the main board or side board?
Our matchup seemingly should be good. The reason I say this is that I actually haven't played against it much. I think I'm 3-1 against it, but this was with GGT. You could go up to 3 Rest in Peace if you're scared and probably 1 more life gain card main like a 2nd Spirit Link or Unflinching Courage. The only reason I bring up Courage is that a friend who I loan Bogles to for FNM wanted 1 more life gain card after losing to Burn. The Burn opponent was the same one I beat the week before, so I think he just had luckier draws (4 Goblin Guide in 1 game and Deflecting Palm in the other).

I have a fully foiled Bogles deck including sideboard options for sale. Looking to get 5% under TCG Low prices. if anyone is looking to foil out let me know and I can sell either the whole deck or whatever portion you need.
Good to know and thanks for offering here first. Many, many people have offered me foil Bogles before, as I have around 4-5 decks that are 100% foiled. So they assume that I like to foil everything, but Bogles is one of those decks that I personally don't like to foil. I want to have the appearance of a new, naïve player. I want players to believe that they can beat me before the first game is over. And while having a foil deck doesn't necessarily always hurt that perception, it gives the opponent extra incentive to try to win.
Apologies for quoting a two month old post, but I've been swamped this semester and haven't been around for months; I'm reading through everything I've missed and this made me lol haha, I love it. I pull those kind of shenanigans all the time; sometimes I'll go the extra mile and leave my playmat at home Due to the size of my LGS and the fact that I'm often too busy to play more than once a month, I'm always running into new faces, so I can usually pull the "noob bogles player" card every time I'm in the shop.
Anyway, glad to see this primer is still active and I'm enjoying all the match reports I've read/watched thus far; pretty sweet watching you play via your link, FCG! I'm still a few pages back, so my question may be answered by the time I'm current, but I'm curious to know where we stand in the meta and if any significant changes have occurred over the last few months? I'll take a shot in the dark and assume WotC didn't print a broken 1cmc G/W aura that propelled us to tier 1, but interested to see what lists ya'll are running lol.
I feel like we're potentially pretty strong in the meta. We have good matchups vs. Dredge, Humans, Spirits, and Burn. Big mana is making a come back (and I myself am on Titanshift and Amulet Titan right now), so that can be bad in the case of Amulet or 50/50 in the case of Titanshift. I feel like UW Control is okay for us, but many hate the matchup. I guess it comes down to speed and Gaddock Teeg. I feel like Storm and KCI are played less and that's probably good for us. Jund is going up a bit and that's bad for us, but I also think Tron has been going down in play.
Sorry for the jumbled thoughts, but just trying to think of everything that I noticed. Keep in mind that I am pretty busy right now, so I am only playing at FNM and the occasional GP (or SCG Las Vegas coming up, although I may be our Legacy player).

No, man; that's exactly what I was looking for. I haven't even had time to go to FNM this semester, so I've been completely out of the loop; appreciate the update
Off-topic, but curious what you'll be running for Legacy. Oddly enough, Legacy nights are the only events that work with my schedule, so the only deck I've played in the last few months has been BR Reanimator & Grixis Delver lol. Looking forward to dusting off Bogles for some Modern next week.
I'll most likely be playing Sneak Show. I just started playing the deck about 6 months ago (only play tested so far; no tournaments ), but the deck seems super right for me. Griselbrand and Emrakul, the Aeon's Torn are my jam. I would consider BR Reanimator, but I don't think it's as consistent as Sneak Show.

Norin the Wary, Grimgrin, Adun Oakenshield (taking forever to build)(dead format for me)Apologies for quoting a two month old post, but I've been swamped this semester and haven't been around for months; I'm reading through everything I've missed and this made me lol haha, I love it.

Sorry for the jumbled thoughts, but just trying to think of everything that I noticed. Keep in mind that I am pretty busy right now, so I am only playing at FNM and the occasional GP (or SCG Las Vegas coming up, although I may be our Legacy player).

Norin the Wary, Grimgrin, Adun Oakenshield (taking forever to build)(dead format for me)No, man; that's exactly what I was looking for.

Norin the Wary, Grimgrin, Adun Oakenshield (taking forever to build)(dead format for me)I have Spirit Link in my SB. It wouldn't take much for me to get another. On that note, should I make any changes to my main? I am in a fairly aggro meta, and I am always looking for an edge. Here is my deck for reference. Any help is always appreciated.
