Soooo, a new art for Daybreak Coronet is out in MM2. Still like the old art better. Hope this reprinting will help increase the number of Bogles' players.
They're both very different and I think both are cool. I don't like the old future sight mana symbol and border.
To each his own. lol. I wonder what other auras would be included to make this card playable in draft. Haha
Hilariously, none at all!
Glad I can finally build this deck though.
Yeah, I was scratching my head when I saw the whole list of spoilers. lol. you can use it once you've attached splinter twin to your creature. lol.
Would anyone be willing to work with me to get the first post "primer" updated? It is severely out dated... And (almost) irrelevant now... Especially on sideboard and the finer details of the deck/match ups.
PM me if interested
I'm interested in updating the primer but don't we need to contact the original thread starter to edit it?
I believe so. I was kinda thinking if we put something together, we could just ship it to the OP and it would be an easy update. And we could post it in the comments until the main page got updated.
have you tried contacting the thread starter?
If you people are interested, I'd be willing to do a primer image banner if you are interested in one. Here is my playmat design I use and the OmniTell Banner used on these forums which i also created. I also created this playmat for my mate who plays MUD. Just PM me if you are interested.

I side out Kor Spiritdancer. I always try to have the same creature count because I am so paranoid of not drawing creatures or not drawing Auras, etc. If I put in 2 Gaddock Teeg, I take out 2 Kor Spiritdancer. I still have 2 in the deck and sometimes Kor Spiritdancer is not really at its best.
I see. Thanks.
Saw this deck place second, I like the idea of having 15 creatures in the deck. Although, I'll change 2x Unflinching Courage to 1x Spirit Link and 1x Spider Umbra to keep the curve low. SB wise, I'll just switch Spellskite with Gaddock Teeg. Opinions?
Saw this deck take first place, a more proactive approach instead of waiting for Leyline and Suppression Field, he's on a more classical aggressive build of Bogles.
Here are two types of Bogles build that took 1st and 2nd place. Currently using the 15 creatures build, I just changed Stony Silence to Suppression Field and is doing well.
Main body of the primer has been updated. Please read it over guys and let me know if I missed anything. I also went through the SB list and removed references to banned cards and defunct decks as well as added Fog to the list.

An update on the most recent tournaments that Bogles did well would be good, I mentioned above.
The decklist section will be updated by next week since that's going to take quite a bit of time. I'll also start work on the match up section finally with some of the tier 1 match ups covered.
PtE, Stony Silence, and Nature's Claim answer Spellskite just fine and Fog is a decent answer to Deflecting Palm. A blue splash would be hard on the mana since the deck wants turn one green, turn two any combination of green and white, and turn 3 double white.

Fog does not work against Deflecting Palm as the player being dealt damage gets to choose which prevention effect to apply. If you wanted something to specifically counter Deflecting Palm the best counter is probably Hallow. However, considering most burn players doesn't even run the card and those that do tend to only run 2 copies, sideboarding specifically against Deflecting Palm is not worth it. You could use something a bit more all-round like Burrenton Forge-Tender but in the end I think you're better off hoping to dodge the card and play around it by keeping your lifelinkers at 4-5 power if you can afford to.
Regarding the blue splash for counterspells it's not unthinkable, but in the end it doesn't really seem worth it. Even without the colored mana concerns the deck can rarely afford to keep mana up for a spell that you might not be able to play. Spellskite and Deflecting palm can be rough, but other than that I'm not sure why we would be worried about two mana cards specifically.

God I love how unintuitive Magic can be sometimes... but you are correct. Thanks for pointing that out.
I bought a box of Modern Masters 2015 to allow fate to dictate my reentry into Modern. I used to play Burn, then left Modern for Commander, giving Burn to my girlfriend and her daughter around the heyday of Treasure Cruise. My Modern Masters 2015 box had two Daybreak Coronets, and my decision was made. I always kinda liked Bogles anyway, because of the appearance of the Slippery Bogle itself -- just my type of quirky. I also like that the deck isn't tier 1 yet. What's holding the deck back?
I personally think that it's the matchups. Bogles does poorly vs. Twin because short of Path to Exile, we have no way to interact with the Combo. The main problem is that we are slower than them and the consistency of doing a turn 4 Twin is very consistent when it needs to be. The next problem is with Junk. Many players seem to have problems with this matchup, although I am personally around 70% vs. it. I even have seen stuff like "I beat Bogles (with Junk Midrange) and it is an easy matchup," in tournament reports, which surprises me. Bogles does poorly vs. non-interactive decks; they just crush us. Not to mention, Burn now has an "I win" card vs. us in Deflecting Palm, whereas before we almost couldn't lose to this matchup. UR Delver is also played less and Grixis Delver at least has discard vs. us, which at least gives them a chance when compared with UR Delver. Affinity is a 50/50 matchup that is incredibly die roll dependent. The meta has just shifted to few decks that are gimmes for Bogles. Control is a pretty easy matchup for Bogles, but how often do you see Control in Modern? Other decks have matchups that are gimmes.
The other thing that is keeping it back is the lack of players who play it. If Pro Player LSV was interested in playing the deck, he would do very well. Reid Duke played the deck before and finished 2nd place with it, mulliganing too often to lose in the finals vs. UWR (an actual gimme matchup). People have a feeling that the deck is incredibly inconsistent and that they will have to mulligan a lot. I have personally NOT found this to be the case for me, I can empathize with others who have felt this. Some players also think that the deck doesn't take play skill and that they won't have an opportunity to outplay their opponent or they simply want to interact with their opponent rather than running them over.
I myself played Bogles for nearly a year. I did play many other decks between, but Bogles was my main deck and the deck that I used at Competitive REL events. As for me, I just simply wanted to try something new. I am on Junk Company now, firstly because I thought it was fun, but now because I think the deck is an upcoming Tier 1 deck. I still am going to play Bogles at the Competitive REL events that are at Grand Prix Vegas though. I still don't feel comfortable enough to try something else competitively since Bogles and Scapeshift were the only decks that I've used at Competitive REL in the past 2 years. (I always have fears of drawing poorly with other decks since Bogles has served me pretty well.)

The PPTQ I played was in Morgantown, WV at Four Horseman. There where 27? people registered. We did Five rounds cut to top 8.
Round 1 Mono-Blue Tron
I played against mono blue Tron. This match up I consider to be one of the easiest, they're to slow out of the gate and really have no way to catch up. I won the die roll so I played first. I landed a turn one boggle into turn two Rancor and Ethereal. Turn 3 I land my Daybreak. Turn 4 I play another ethereal. Game 2 he sided in Chalice of the Void and lands it for one. This practically wins me the game, which is quite unusual to say. I guess he did not realize that Chalice also hits his spells. I land a spirit dancer and begin cycling cards till I find a spirit mantle to attach along with the coronet in my opening hand. He quickly scoops. He was unable to play any of his cantrips/maps etc. He later admitted he had never seen my deck. 2-0
Round 2 Junk Company
I won the die roll so I played first. Game 1, I start out with a Scout and turn two Umbra and Etheral. Turn 3 for me I play a Spiritdancer and then cast Ethereal Armor I drew a Coronet off the draw trigger. He plays a collected Company and gets a Kitchen Finks and Anafenza which is scary because I assume he is on the infinite life plan. I land my coronet and draw another a land. I swing he blocks and bolsters the Kitchen Finks when it comes back. At the end of his turn I cycle horizon Canopy and get an Etheral Armor. I draw the Rancor to get over him and he scoops showing only land. Game 2 he is on the play and I went down to 5 I belive I had 2 land Bogle and Ethereal. I draw into a coronet. He is only deploying birds. I then Land my coronet and swing, in response he play Collected Company for a kitchen finks and Reclamation Sage. I continue to only draw land and he just keeps deploying threats. He just went to wide with a Township boost for me to handle. Game 3 I go down to 6 and he starts at 5. I know at this point I'm likely in a better position. I start out with a dude. He thoughtsiezes me on his turn 1 and takes a Daybreak. Turn two I play Rancor and Heyena Umbra. He misses a land drop on his turn 2, it was basically over at that point as my draws happened to all be live. 2-1
Round 3 Junk goodstuff?
I believe he was just on a Tarmogoyf and Ooze plan. Game 1 and 2 I won with no issue, I was just too fast and over powered what he was doing. I lost game 2 when I had to go to 4 cards, I was put on the Dryad Arbor plan. It didn't work out too well. 2-1
Round 4 Amulet Titan
He won the die roll and I feel like this matchup is just a race. Game 1 I feel like I made a miss play with he was at 11 and I was at 8. Instead of playing the Unflinching Courage and getting out of range of the swing back I played an etheral armor and Rancor. I had my boggle up to a 15/15. I expected him to double block. That was not the case. I was also unaware of the land that granted double strike. I lost. I lost game two because he just got there way faster than I did.
Round 5
We ID into top 8, I become the 3 seed.
Quarter Finals r/w Control
Game 1 I have the nut draw and assemble the Megazord and end it on turn 4. Game 2 he lands a third turn Bloodmoon and I'm stuck chipping away with a dude and Ethereal as he had countered my Rancor. He finally deploys a Stormbreath Dragon and thats all she wrote. Game 3 He lands a turn two Speelskite and I never find an answer.
After all was said and done I was pretty happy with the results, though I was highly favored in the Quarterfinals and never found an answer.
If I would Change anything it would be to change Natures Claim to Seal of Primodium or a Krosan Grip. Natures Claim does not take care of Chalice which is way too much of a threat to not have an answer for I just happened to get lucky this time around with my opponent not reading his own cards.
I brought in the 2nd Dromoka's Command almost every match except the Quarter Finals. It was so useful everytime. I highly suggest giving it a try.

So below is the decklist I've tentatively decided to work with. I bought playsets of all the cards below so that I've got wiggle room for tweaking the deck as time goes on. The most challenging aspect of the deck creation was settling on quantities for each of the auras. There are so many reasonable arguments for and against each of the non-core deck elements. For example, on Umbras, one player with credentials argued that Heyena Umbra was more important than Spider because it's vital to get First Strike ASAP. Another argued that Spider should take precedence because the deck is already loaded with sources of First Strike. I split the difference. I fully doubt a game will be won or lost on this decision. I do, on the other hand, feel fully confident in my mana base. The only decision I actually had to make there was whether to include a basic plains. I did, for the same reason everyone else includes one basic forest. I'm beginning weekly Saturday night Modern tournaments at my shop, so hopefully this performs well. I'll have a sideboard soon enough - it's a small meta that doesn't change often - the cafe shop regulars. Should be easy to put together.
I'd the limit the amount of Keen Senseand Spirit Link you're running. There are going to be more time than not that you need an aura to buff. Spirit Link is a little more useful than Keen Sense as we have to have trample eventually. If it is getting through we usually don't even need it. I think it is too much of a do nothing and could be dropped for something more.
I notice you run full playsets of both Umbras. Posts some pages back indicated that Umbras are largely meta dependent, and you need more against control and less against aggro and combo. Did you go into your last event expecting lots of control? Or do you just have a different take on deck construction?
I like the idea of Dromoka's Command in the deck. Did you ever side it out? Any matchup where if found it was decisive?
Concerning the Umbras, I prefer to play 3 Hyena/4 Spider. I agree with Baron that this decision won't make a huge difference, but I believe reach can help us survive against Affinity (not that we wan't much blocking anyway, but it might help).
As far as running four of each Umbra I found that they are very good cards to have whenever you draw them and make easy flex spots for sideboarding. I like having cards that are always going to be a draw that benefits us. That is why I dropped the Keen Sense and only run the one Spirit Link.
I do have a more aggressive Meta, not really any control to worry about outside of one or two decks here and there.
The only time I found myself siding out the Dromoka's Command was in the Top 8 match because any time that in that match that it would be useful I would already have been in a losing situation. It proved very well against any deck that played really any creatures, it pulls weight in the mirror, is an answer to twin and quite a bit more. It was rarely a dead draw, the only time it wasn't useful was if I had the board clear at which point any other draw would've just been a "win-more"
I do recommend testing it before counting it out right away.
