So when Erratic Cyclops was first spoiled, I thought to myself that it might become modern playable. It doesn't slot perfectly into any exact deck, but it reminded of the power behind Thing in the Ice that I anticipated some years ago. And now, low and behold, Thing has a deck built around it. So here I am to start the brewing.
My first thought for pairing the new Cyclops with a back-breaking spell was Fury of the Horde. If you ritual-ramp up to cast it, it's easily lethal in one turn. Alternatively it can be free-cast to swing for an extra 7 trample damage. But I knew this wasn't enough on it's own. It wasn't until I started brainstorming any other spells that are easy to get for free/cheap but have serious benefits when paired with combat damage. Then I realized Become Immense was the key card here. Potentially spend 1 mana to swing with a 12/8 Trample, then swing next combat (same turn) with Fury for another 19 damage.
Now I only need to determine a creaturebase to support this big ugly guy. Here is my first attempt at scratching out a list
There are probably other ways to build the deck using tricky free spells with high CMC. Any suggestions for alternate card choices? Another route I considered is to use Nourishing Shoal with some high CMC green cards.
-EDIT-
I missed a big part here in assuming Fury of the Horde was instant-speed. Being that it's not, that card might get cut from the deck. There is no way to get it's damage bonus during both combat steps. I will likely try out Savage Beating instead.
