Since Desecrated Tomb was spoilered and wanted to build a deck around it. More even now, that if it win the poll in mtggoldfish, we can have a deck around it next week (hopefully )
So I began to brew and think what cards would be great in such deck. THe list of cards is the following:
I tested some somre cards and I think the deck can be built with this list.
Also in previous iterations I included desecrated tomb in a deck using bontu's monument + Oathsworn Vampire + a sac outlet to generate an absurd amount of bats while draining the opponent life. The problem with that is that lot of pieces are required and monument is another three drop artifact so the deck was slow.
The problem is that I really don't have any interaction with my opponent and I think the deck needs some removal to deal with scavenging ooze i.e. and other troublesome creatures.
I thought on vengeful pharaoh but is very situational. Also darkblast could be an option but doesn't kill almost anything so....
Also having any way to disrupt the opponent would be great so any ideas here are welcome.
The thing I like in his list is squee, goblin nabob which combined with any discard outlet (like zombie infestation) provides another source of card advantage.
I appreciate a lot your suggestions Dennis ;), lot of thanks!! Although I must say I'm not with you in some of them.
Anyways and firstly I have to show you my new list (because old one was not optimal) and because after watching all games of Saffron Olive I'm sold with some of his elections.
I'm very sold with this list. Have a ton of synergy and having all those zombies make you able to have a great card advantage machine in cryptbreaker. The list have 18 cards that make you able to discard more cards while being useful on their own.
I can cut the supplier because it's 6 cards in the grave which is a lot!! giving you chances of finding lot of recursive dudes and the squees sooner.
I would agree with you on using any sac outlet but not sure in which one could be useful by itself. I initially think on adding 1 blasting station but there are lot of chances that ii finally goes from library to graveyard because suppliers and imps so not sure on it yet.
I included two copters although they can place in the grave tooo when dredging or stitching so I have to test them out and see how they are in the deck.
The crypts are awesome and usually provides a lot of mana (even more than you could spend) letting you play everything you want.
As removal I'm using the hunters bfor big threats and the imps for chumpblocking.
Finally abbeys give you another angle of attack in wich you sac 5 bat tokens, zombie tokens, .. to get a 9/7 flying indestructible lifelink beater too finish of the game.
In my testings this list is performing much better and has a ton of synergy!!!
I would like to have some disruption for combo so I'm including some
3 x Raven’s Crime
3 x Life from the Loam
This does look much better now with all the zombie synergy. Prized Amalgam would fit well here as another recursive threat, potentially replacing Lotleth Troll or maybe Stinkweed Imp.
Grafted Wargear seems good with all the flying tokens and expendable creatures we want to sac'.
It isn't an instant speed sac' outlet though so maybe Blasting Station is the better option.
I love your deck idea, as I like Tomb as well. I'm interested in this deck's progression.
Dude, listen to Dennis. He offered some advice on my newest deck BW control, deck. And I was stubborn at first. But I found out gradually that he's 100% right on the majority of his suggestions as I tested more and more. Give it a whirl. All of those suggestions are great, I especially like bouncing that equipment around instead of Cryptbreaker. That's more of a draw cards for control card, that messes with the deck's aggression.
You might be able to add a damage/life loss source for all those creatures entering/exiting battlefield/graveyard. There's a couple 1 or 2 drops that do just that. I don't remember what they are off hand. Can give the deck another angle. In that sense, a copy or 2 of Throne of the God-Pharaoh might also be worthwhile.
Good luck with this deck, it tickles me green with interest.
I'm already using gravecrawler!! ;). In fact is a great new adittion to the deck.
Yesterday I was testing the list for fun in my store and realized that:
1) Smuggler Copter doesn't worthwile. I already have plenty discard outlets and air presence in form of bats.
2) Blasting station was great and needed MD. I've played against a guy with pro-black creatures and I was only capable of winning him when blasting station appears. The combo with crawlers is tasty (and the deck have enough zombies to replay it consistently). Lot of thanks for the suggestion Dennis
3) Lotleth trolls are a must. It's a durable zombie (that only dismeber and PTE can deal with) and usually serves me to have a zombie to recur my crawlers while serving as an additional discard outlet plus a big dude in a pinch. they can't be replaced.
4) The cryptbreakers are not great turn 1 but serves a lot in middlegame. The ability to draw (and dredge) was amazing while being able to create more board presence was useful too.
5) Big-game hunter are not always great and sometimes is a 1/1 for three. The thing here is that the deck wants to have creatures in the grave also for the agadeem Crypts so the removal is better if it's in a body. Possible replacements would be shriekmaw (situational) or ravenous chupacabra (slow). Are there any creature that serves as removal better than that ??
6) Collective brutality is really good in this deck, really really good but because I'm trying to use as much creatures as I could to make a better use of all my engines I've moved them to the side as the full playset
7) tested priced amalgams but not imppresed with them. Only comes back once in a turn and only if you have anything thaat comes alone. There were a ccouple of games were I couldn't recur other creature to the battlefield and they were dead in the grave. Instead (and because I'm using green) I have to test vengevine but they are not black (so doesn't have synergy with the crypts).
8) Looking for something to use as an alternative win con when I've plenty of mana. Having gravecrawlers + agadeem crypt + blasting station let me deal lot of damage in a turn (in one game I was able to do 13 damage in one turn) but also something like Army of the Damned could be played or is a christmas land card??
There were lot of hilarious situations in some games were the deck surprised me. I won a game against a green deck with 2 x scavenging ooze in the table and me with 2 desecrated tomb in play and a troll to continue developing my game. He removed only crucial creatures like squee and imps but finally I won him beating with 20+ flying bats (a third tomb was found in the process )
I'm going to continue testing this deck because I like it a lot and have lot of potential Any suggestion is welcome!!!
does undying creature like geralf's messenger have a place on this deck?
how about multiple blood artist / zulaport ala aristocrat deck killing all bat tokens and trigger those 2 cards?
I'm really sorry but I don't think so. Geralf has no recursive interaction (beside undying once so only one bat) and the aristocrats package is not consistent with the engine of the deck. Anyways thanks for the suggestion
Yesterday I tested the deck again for fun in my store and worked good but still having some problems. I played against some random decks and also some tiers too.
Conclusions I get were:
Bloodghast were dissapointing. The deck has no lot of lands and sometimes they were stuck in the grave for the rest of the game. Also 2/1 that can't block for BB is not very imppresive and is not a zombie also. I'm trying to find something better (veilborn ghoul, prized amalgan (but then I think I should need bloodghast so ....).
Big-game hunter were also dissapointing. Some games they were great (killed an emrakul from a goryo deck played in third turn) but sometimes were crap. Also trying to find something better here.
The rest of the deck is working really good and I love all the synergy it has. if only dread return was modern legal.... :P. That make me thing on using Unburial Rites but then white would be needed and also some black fatties that can finish the game (preferably if they can be casted and because agadeem crypt this is possible so thinking in which creatures would be better as finishers. Also this strategy will generate two bats ;). Right now I'm thinking on
Throne of the God-pharaoh. A lot of zombies enter tapped or hasted ghast as it is. There are black creatures that make life loss with creatures etb or dies. Those are cheap cards that will do the same amount of damage as say, a percy with summoning sickness. I would use a 12 or 16 creature base with zombies like ghast and crawler and alternate ways of damping opponent besides combat damage
The deck worked very good. Some games with an army of bats, and winning on the air.
I played against the same guy with pro-black creatures + graveyard hate MD (3 x scavenging Ooze) and the games were rough but could win some of them. Also tested against a guy with an allies deck and these games were also difficult because allies were so fast and big and kabira evangel ruined my chances of blocking because he gaves each turn pro-black again. I'm thinking on includen some sudden spoiling in SDB for those pesky decks but they are very marginal and tier decks doesn't use such kind of cards so probably it doesn't worthwhile. I won 1 game and lost two to it.
On the good side I won 3-0 to RB Burn, white token deck, zoo and some kind of blue steel deck.
I'm pretty happy with the actual list and the only thing I would include should be more removal (preferably in creature form) or something to avoid big beatings (from pro-black dudes :flame:).
As always, any advice or suggestion is very welcome!!! Keep posting your ideas guys
Hey Everyone!
I'm currently testing a version of this deck focused on the zombie theme. Grixis colored, my only new addition to the mix is 2xScourge Devil, an amazing card that really helps push lethal damage faster and consistently with only a couple of bats.
A Suggestion of mine since some people are actually starting to run green is the spell Gnaw to the bone, that can very easily be played at 1 copy in the main for that incidental 30 instant life-gain in the midgame, and a second copy in the sideboard. The green splash is neat enough to push some very useful sideboard cards like Ancient Grudge.
Totgp is cheap reach. No matter how u want to spin it geralf's are good. It does recur itself with undying. creating an instance of 6 damage. Most people won't block ghast or crawler with a dork or insert utility creature. And if he does want to use cryptbreaker he can. Have u ever tested it? Because it could easily be a hasted zombie out of it hand in the net. Station is better, I agree. That doesn't mean a 3rd copy that attacks the life total without combat damage isn't worthwhile.
Scourge devil is something I tested when the deck had red (see list in my first post) and was good, but sometimes useless because you want lot of bats and little critters to gain advantage of it. It's good as a 2 x if you use red. I removed third colour for consistence so I'm not playing it anymore. Anyways if you play red, for sure is a good addition.
About totgp I'm not sure about it. I have to test it but being an artifact and needing to have a big presence in the board make me doubt. Anyways I'll try to test it and see how it goes.
Right now I'm testing 1 nim devourer and 1 Shambling Shell and they are working. Probably I'll keep them MD. In SDB I've included Gnaw to the bone as you suggested but gaining life sometimes is not enough about the deck that make us suffer. Anyways I'll have to test it too.
Lot of thanks for your answers and suggestions!!! Please keep comenting and suggesting!!
Still testing the deck and as much as I play it, as much I love it.
I've removed Nim devourer because it is limited to the upkeep and it's not useful then. I've included 1 army of the damned. When I first included it, I did it as a joke, to test it, but with no lot of expectations on it, but after some games, it proved to be good enough to be kept in the main deck.
One game I made thirteen damage to the opponent killing him with station. Also the card serves a a big mana sink and if the oppoenent has not mass removal, he is dead.
You can play blood artist if you want, but right now the deck has no room for them. I'm not worried about mass removal at all, deck recovers really fast from any sweep minus terminus (and artists doesn't help here also). To sacrify crawlers (because my list has no ghasts (since I removed them from the deck I've a better list and never look back for them)) you need to have a sacrify outlet, and the list only runs 2 blasting stations so.....
I thouught on grave pact, and also in bontu's last reckoning for sideboard. Still not decided which is better. The pact is stronger but sometimes you need more speed so reckoning shines here.
Mutavault is in my watch list but my lands are so compressed that I'm not sure what to cut for it. Also one of with the amount of cards that fall in the grave is very possible that you dredge it.
Anyways, as always, lot of thanks for your suggestions!!!! Please keep posting
I cut ghast too running extra 1 drop zombies for crawler recursion and consistency on early aggression. That war gear is really good. It's a free equip ability and when a 5/3 crawler or whatever is coming at you, it's a problem for them. A damned if you do damned if you don't situation. Oh how I wish carrion feeder was legal here.
Also explored dunes of the dead/crucible/tec edge kind of stuff to keep the game at 4 lands a piece, but I never really needed it.
Yes, I agree with you on that. The deck works with 2-3 lands consistently. Also is good having more 1 drop zombies as well. I have top test the wargear but I'm afraid of having so much 3CC artifacts in desecrated tomb, grafted wargear and blasting Station. I also wish carrion feeder would be modern legal. Holy *****, I' claiming for it lot of time ;).
I don't think that playing both Station and Wargear together is a good idea, getting stuck with too many 3-drops is a real issue so choosing which is better is the way to go.
Also even though it isn't a zombie Viscera Seer is the best 1-mana sac' outlet for the deck (in Red Greater Gargadon could be even better).
I think it might be a good time to revisit this deck with the addition of another recursive threat like Arclight Phoenix (over Bloodsoaked Champion).
To support it I took out the enchantments (Infestation) and non-Tomb artifacts (Copter and Wargear/Station) to add more cheap spells and fill the GY faster.
I feel like maybe Call to the Netherworld and Street Wraith could be good here? And I think Phoenix would warrant more ways to play multiple spells in a turn. Burning Inquiry seems counter intuitive to that plan
Agreed that Viscera Seer is needed. I like Seer, Infestation with Gravecrawler to be able to pay 1, make a bat. Pay 1, make a bat. Scry is useful also, but that combination can take over a game rather quickly.
Desecrated Tomb reminds me a lot of bridge from below like they are both different sides of the same coin
has anyone tried a bridgevine deck combining the two? (also being able to dreadge a creature, sac bloodghast reanimate bloodghasts and stick a bushwacker seems like a very solid game plan with either a bridget or a tomb)

The problem with that is that lot of pieces are required and monument is another three drop artifact so the deck was slow.
So the first list I'm testing is :
4 Bloodsoaked Champion
4 Faithless Looting
4 Bloodghast
4 Scrapheap scrounger
4 Hellspark Elemental
4 Desecrated tomb
2 Squee The Inmortal
4 Scourge Devil
4 Demigod of Revenge
2 Graven Cairns
4 dragonskull summit
10 Swamp
The problem is that I really don't have any interaction with my opponent and I think the deck needs some removal to deal with scavenging ooze i.e. and other troublesome creatures.
I thought on vengeful pharaoh but is very situational. Also darkblast could be an option but doesn't kill almost anything so....
Also having any way to disrupt the opponent would be great so any ideas here are welcome.
Bad Moon gets your creatures bigger.
Gravecrawler and Dread Wanderer are reoccurring Zombies that will keep creating bats.
Smuggler's Copter will loot and attack to fill yard and do damage.
I've liked more the first idea I had more than using dredge (because dredge is already an existing deck and because it's a bit boring also)
I'm thinking on how I can build the deck and found that with faithless Looting, Cathartic Reunion and stitcher's supplier there are support enough to make the plan of the deck viable.
The thing I like in his list is squee, goblin nabob which combined with any discard outlet (like zombie infestation) provides another source of card advantage.
So I'm testing this list right now:
4 Bloodsoaked Champion
4 Faithless Looting
4 Bloodghast
4 Zombie Infestation
4 Cathartic reunion
4 Scrapheap scrounger
4 Squee Goblin Nabob
4 Desecrated tomb
2 Scourge Devil
4 Demigod of Revenge
2 Graven Cairns
4 dragonskull summit
10 Swamp
Still the deck has no removal package but sometimes it's fast enough to win games without it. Anyways any idea or suggestion is really welcome!!
I'd also replace Scrapheap Scrounger with Prized Amalgam as it doesn't eat the GY (as you don't really want to exile you recursive creatures) and it pairs well with Bloodghast and Bloodsoaked Champion.
To get more triggers of the recursive creatures against decks that don't remove them or save them from exile effects a sac' outlet can be useful.
Something like Blasting Station/Grafted Wargear (Spawning Pit/Culling Dais/Bubbling Cauldron) or a creature like Viscera Seer/Bloodthrone Vampire.
Stitcher's Supplier is good for filling the GY but the deck already has more than enough ways of doing it anyway so I'd replace it with an interactive card like Collective Brutality (or Lightning Axe/Sinister Concoction).
Liliana of the Veil is another strong discard outlet to fill the yard.
Also, find some room for a couple of Smuggler's Copter to continue looting would be pretty good imho.
I'd suggest the following changes:
-4x Demigod of Revenge, - 4x Scrapheap Scrounger, - 4x Stitcher's Supplier
+4x Prized Amalgam, +4x Collective Brutality, +2x Smuggler's Copter, +2x Blasting Station/Grafted Wargear
Anyways and firstly I have to show you my new list (because old one was not optimal) and because after watching all games of Saffron Olive I'm sold with some of his elections.
So my list right now is the following:
4 Cryptbreaker
4 Gravecrawler
4 Bloodghast
4 Zombie Infestation
4 Lotleth Troll
2 Smuggler Copter
4 Squee Goblin Nabob
4 Desecrated tomb
4 Stinkweed imp
4 Big Game Hunter
3 Westvale abbey
4 Blooming Marsh
2 Overgrown Tomb
3 Ifnir Deadlands
4 Swamp
2 Dakmor Salvage

Prized Amalgam would fit well here as another recursive threat, potentially replacing Lotleth Troll or maybe Stinkweed Imp.
The card which I'd replace here is Big Game Hunter as it is rather situatiinal.
Collective Brutality (or Sinister Concoction) is a good replacement as are the dredge cards Darkblast and Life from the Loam.
I still like the red splash as Faithless Looting and Cathartic Reunion are really good in a GY strategy like this.
I think that Gravecrawler could fit in there as well, potentially replacing Bloodsoaked Champion though not sure if there are enough zombies to support it with just Amalgam and Infestation tokens.
Here is my suggested BR version:
4x Bloodsoaked Champion
4x Bloodghast
4x Prized Amalgam
4x Squee, Goblin Nabob
Enchantment (4)
4x Zombie Infestation
Sorcery (12)
4x Faithless Looting
4x Cathartic Reunion
4x Collective Brutality
Artifact (8)
2x Smuggler's Copter
2x Grafted Wargear
4x Desecrated Tomb
2x Dakmor Salvage
4x Blackcleave Cliffs
4x Bloodstained Mire
4x Polluted Delta
2x Blood Crypt
3x Swamp
1x Mountain
1x Darkblast
2x Lightning Axe
2x Blood Moon
2x Damping Sphere
3x Ratchet Bomb
3x Nihil Spellbomb
2x Damnation
It isn't an instant speed sac' outlet though so maybe Blasting Station is the better option.

I don't remember what they are off hand. Can give the deck another angle. In that sense, a copy or 2 of Throne of the God-Pharaoh might also be worthwhile.

- Tetzimoc, Primal Death
- Avatar of Woe
- Demon of Death's Gate
- Griselbrand
- Razaketh, the Foulblooded
- Sheoldred, Whispering One
but not sure if the effort worthwhile.I'll continue testing the deck because it's really fun and post my lists conclusions and results here. As always any idea or suggestion is welcome!!!
4 Cryptbreaker
4 Gravecrawler
4 Zombie Infestation
4 Lotleth Troll
2 Blasting Station
4 Squee Goblin Nabob
4 Desecrated tomb

The deck worked very good. Some games with an army of bats, and winning on the air.

As always, any advice or suggestion is very welcome!!! Keep posting your ideas guys
PD: Thanks Burning-force, I would test nim devourer and Shambling Shell and see how they work!!
I'm currently testing a version of this deck focused on the zombie theme. Grixis colored, my only new addition to the mix is 2xScourge Devil, an amazing card that really helps push lethal damage faster and consistently with only a couple of bats.

I'll continue testing, but I love this deck.
Any more ideas are welcome!!
U get something back if they can block crawlers ghast.
It hurts mass removal strategies. It gives u something if u ever block a creature.
You can sac crawlers and ghasts every turn.
It's a token deck token deck after all.
You could even make a case for grave pact as it also, has a strong effect on combat damage.
You should be running at least 1 mutavault. It's a zombie
Also explored dunes of the dead/crucible/tec edge kind of stuff to keep the game at 4 lands a piece, but I never really needed it.
Also even though it isn't a zombie Viscera Seer is the best 1-mana sac' outlet for the deck (in Red Greater Gargadon could be even better).
Also, has Bomat Courier been considered for this deck ?
It can start beating down early and hopefully loot later, obviously in would need Red but red has better tools for the deck than green anyway imho
(besides enchantment removal in the SB): Faithless Looting, Cathartic Reunion, Lightning Axe and Blood Moon and also to hardcast Squee.
Red also has sac'-outlets like Greater Gargadon and Barrage of Expendables (the closest we have to Goblin Bombardment, though much worse).
To support it I took out the enchantments (Infestation) and non-Tomb artifacts (Copter and Wargear/Station) to add more cheap spells and fill the GY faster.
Here is my idea for the deck:
4x Bloodghast
4x Prized Amalgam
4x Squee, Goblin Nabob
4x Arclight Phoenix
Sorcery (16)
4x Faithless Looting
4x Burning Inquiry
4x Cathartic Reunion
4x Collective Brutality
4x Fiery Temper
Artifact (4)
4x Desecrated Tomb
Land (20)
2x Dakmor Salvage
4x Blackcleave Cliffs
4x Bloodstained Mire
4x Polluted Delta
2x Blood Crypt
3x Swamp
1x Mountain
1x Darkblast
2x Lightning Axe
2x Blood Moon
2x Damping Sphere
3x Ratchet Bomb
3x Nihil Spellbomb
2x Damnation
Draft My Cube!
has anyone tried a bridgevine deck combining the two? (also being able to dreadge a creature, sac bloodghast reanimate bloodghasts and stick a bushwacker seems like a very solid game plan with either a bridget or a tomb)
