Yeah, I was thinking about that guy after the full spoiler. He's a goblin gaveleer for 1 mana more, but gives you the full +2/+2 for each equip instead of just the power buff. So he wins combat, which is probably worthwhile to have better game against stuff like hollow one and humans. But he'd be slower and worse against combo and big mana. Definitely worth some testing, right?
I mean, cheerios is a completely different deck. It wins by storming off, drawing your library, and casting grapeshot. This deck here wins through combat. They both use equipment, but for different reasons.
I was looking at it, but I don't love it. Because so much of the deck's power comes from the equipment, I think Captain's Claws is a better call, and that card is a little borderline itself.
So i've been playing this game differently. I called my deck Sigarda's Gift (sigarda's aid and steelshapers's gift).
I splash blue on my end but that's for the academy ruins and a geist. Though i've had similar attempts and trials on my own end of testing and just recently found this thread I'm going to say how surprised i am to not see Darksteel plate on your main board. With the current meta of removals and such makes it an for sure pick. It puts in so much work that its unstoppable or at the very least protects the creature you really wanna keep alive.
Sigarda's aid is probably the one card i'll be vouching for because I love to use the swords when I can. Since my meta has mostly tron, jund, hollow one and humans mirran crusader is actually really good with one other sword. There are creatures i never considered such as the sacred cat but I know that i could speak up and say man lands are a good addition but as a 2 of (preferably inkmoth) just for a secondary wincon and trust me it won more games than you can imagine. Though I've ran 23 lands and a set of flooded strand I'm unsure how I feel about having only 20 lands. Then again most of my stuff weren't cheap and probably slower so you can say i was the more mid-range type build.
I also used the lands to my advantage and used blackblade reforged as a one off. Though i've never used vault scourge and had myself thraban inspector for additional body and artifact for metalcraft (cos i don't care for darksteel citadel) the little draw helps at times when i do draw it and usually gives me a draw when need be. Blackblade with kor or mirran is the dream along side a basilisk collar makes for the dream (which usually gets me the win so long as i got a sigardas aid in play but can also be equip for cheap with sram and saint traft).
Finding this thread is new to me so i'm glad i did though I'm not in favor of mono-white solely for meta sake of humans and other goofy stuff. I've considered to throw in trophy mage for redundancy in tutors but for the hard hittin' artifacts like a crucible of worlds to reuse fetches but that too can seem slow but the idea was just an idea.
I do believe 1xbatterskull has a place in the sb though. This can probably be due to my meta. This will be my first go with using bone saw so i'm fairly interested to see how it plays out! i'm modding my deck to have 3 steelshapers and 3 paths. i use two swords main and a darksteel with another 2 swords in the sb (war/peace and light/dark)
If anyone has a question to my experiences do ask i welcome them :3
EDIT: I forgot to mention that i use blue to side in supreme verdict
I’m gonna miss this forum. This deck was really fun to build and play. I notice a lot of people are posting storm and splash colors, but they really detract the focus of a more competitive modern deck.
Not a lot of ***** has been created that’s viable for this deck since Oathwatch.
Two super interesting cards just got announced: Colossus Hanmer and Ancestral Blade
I was looking at the hammer for the deck, I think it's a little bit of a build a round but it's also a worthwhile enough pay of to be a build around.
The few ways I've found to get around the equip cost are
One use
Sigarda's Aid
Magnetic Theft
Kor Outfitter
Multi use
Kazuul's Toll Collector
Pursteel plaidin
I think between theft, aid and puresteel it's potentially a solid game plan. Anyone got any other check equipments like this to add a second effet for consitancy?
I have a first draft for the deck, but I think it has to be in Boros colors and is probably not quite the same archetype as the one depicted in this topic.
I ain't sure the Givers are right and how many Paths are necessary. Could be 4 Path + 2 Spellskite instead.
I ain't sure about the manabase, if it's worth going down to 15 lands, and what split is best among Canyons and Vantages. The fetchlands are right though, it fixes red and thins the deck a bit. Nexus is both an artifact and a threat, looks superior to Darksteel Citadel in a list with Engineer.
Mortarpod is a necessary target for Gift in case we have equipments but no creature. I ain't sure Husk is necessary as a 1-cmc target though.
Puresteel Paladin doesn't seem good as there's no room to play a million equipments and it's hard to get Metalcraft. Engineer on the other hand goes rolling with just 1 artifact, it's way more convincing on paper, and the effect is what the deck wants. It tutors and plays around Meddling Mage as a bonus.
Goblin Gaveleer seems worse than Skirge, and the mana isn't great, I wanna play as few red cards as possible.

Puresteel is your gas, man. He's not in lists just because of his metalcraft ability. He's in lists because he draws cards AND has an "Equip costs are (0)" ability. Not being able to draw into your next attacker will leave you prone to removal. All your creatures get hit by Abrupt Decay, Fatal Push, Path to Exile, etc. All the main choices of removal for practically every deck.
I've been gone from magic for quite a while, but with MH1 I've been more and more interested in picking up where I last left off. I currently don't really have the means to practice and playtest a whole lot, but I'd be very interested in seeing the list you guys have come up with and tested in this new, ultra-linear format.
I'm honestly not entirely sure how well my list would fair in the current almost-T3 meta, but on the other hand, we all know how insane PBJ can be as a linear deck when left to its own devices. Sometime in the hopefully-not-too-distant future I'll sit down and comb through the sets I've missed and do a little write-up on cards of interest.
On the topic of the hammer, I'm not entirely sold on it. It makes the deck less synergy-value, and more straight combo. Maybe that's better, I haven't tested so I can't say for sure, but I wouldn't put my money on it over the v a l u e.
Here's a new take on the deck I threw together after digging through some old lists and looking around at the available cards. Metamorph is a card that interests me a lot, I also think Etched Champion is a card that might solve a lot of problems the deck has.
A couple of notes about this list:
I'm not entirely sure on the thopter-sword package yet. 4 spires might not be enough, and it might end up being too greedy. I don't know yet. Glimmervoid, Seachrome Coast, or even Paradise Mantle as a 1-of are other possible avenues of setting up the combo if needed. Maybe it belongs in the board, I frankly have no idea.
No more outfitter! With SFM + nu-mom + champion we don't really need the board protection as much anymore. I might add him back in the board or something at some point, I don't really know currently.
Does Bonesplitter still belong in the deck? Probably? If no, does Kor Duelist go with it? Hard to say. I think the clock it presents is just too strong to skip.
No more mortarpod! Blasphemy! In all seriousness it's likely that I'll add one to the maindeck after tweaking the numbers a bit. The card is absolutely busted, and I've found myself fetching it over jitte in the legacy list version of the deck.
The sideboard is currently all sorts of whack since it's impossible to tell what we'll actually need before we know what decks we'll be facing. I currently tossed the gq's in there to make space in the manabase, and I honestly think it's a pretty good way to deal with that problem.
I'm very excited about this. What I'm less excited about is that I won't be able to test even close to as much as I'd like in the foreseeable future. I hope you guys come with some awesome ideas as well!
EDIT: The primer be updated as soon as I find the time to sit down and have a big think about what to put in there. It's years outdated at this point, which isn't exactly a good look for newcomers to the deck.
This is my take on the deck, a straightforward aggro deck with multiple attack angles. Sram acts as Puresteel Paladins 5-6 wich helps in the quest of never losing gas.
Etched Champion is our True Name Nemesis, attach everything to it and swing or just use it as a perpetual blocker waiting to have enough Equipments to steal the game. You rarely need more than one each game, and having a great digging power I think 2 is the right number. 2 more from the sideboard are highly adviced vs grindier decks.
Every other creature is a 4 of, we have 8 Equipment Creatures wich gets immediatly buffed by our stone haven outfitters and can be fetched by stoneforge mystic, Giver of runes is a great 1-drop (wich the deck typically lacks as equipment-synergic creatures are usually lackluster) can assure our cranial plated creature connects and can protect our vital advantage pieces (sram, psp and sho). Busted card.
Dispatch over PtE cause I'm a cheap boy.
Cranial plating over bonesplitter because we play an Etched Champion/Giver of Runes list and more than fast aggro is a slower form of inevitable death strategy.
My results were great over the board except for the jund mu, Kolaghan Commands are just too strong.
cant believe no ones yet commented on this but Shadowspear!!!!!
how this is something worth equipping to an aggressively costed kor! legends not great, but does work really nicely with the rest of the deck, 1 cmc is huge and the keywords are ones the deck hast really has access to before. im off to brew/test/ ill pop back with a list (also the cards screams budget build so may try one of those as well)
Possible addition, plus Valduk in a Boros version?
This is the recent Cheerios deck that won a MTGO competitive league

High mana, but good synergy. Thoughts?
Also just leaked: Novice Knight. Seems interesting.
