So....I played my super janky budget crappy Zombies deck online over the weekend. I swapped Necromancer's Stockpile for Cryptbreaker. Holy crap. Crypbreaker + Diregraf Colossus get super nuts. The deck can go so wide its kind of ridiculous. If you manage to get out 2 Colussus, that's just insane. I find I like Inquisition of Kozilek in the board to grab Anger of the Gods from people's hand game 2.
I guess my point is that even in a crappy janky unoptomized build I was blown away by the amount of work Cryptbreaker and Colossus can do. Honestly, I never even once opted to draw a card with Crypbreaker. You don't need to. Turning late game lands into creatures is freaking bonkers. Also, it makes Bloodghast crazy good too. The only thing that kind of sucks about Cryptbreaker is that its a tap ability which means you can only activate it once per turn. That's the one thing that Stockpile has over it. Those two cards where able to wins games all by themself. Strong independent cards don't need no support.
What kind of things do you find you run in your sideboard? Something to shut down graveyard hate would be nice.
My sideboard is four Leyline of Sanctity for burn and discard, Three Leyline of the Void for graveyard strategies. Three Leyline of Singularity to shut down tokens and combo decks with tokens (and makes blood artist nuts.) Three Countersquall for various control and combo decks. An additional Drown in Sorrow for aggressive decks, Lastly one vapor snag for decks that like to cheat the curve. It's a remand that still lets you play creatures.
Hello gentleman, for those of you still using tragic slip may I introduce you to the hot new tech: fatal push? It's really good, as I'm sure you've heard.
Also today's Amonkhet spoilers have revealed some GREAT options. A lord that gives menace (meh) lord of the accursed, another returning 2/1 for one if you're nearly hellbent (heckbent) Dread Wanderer, and a 5/4 for 3 that is also half a blood artist (!!!) Plague Belcher It's drawback is actually a positive with messenger (-1/-1 and +1/+1 counters cancel, don'tchaknow) and with these recursion dudes such as Relentless Dead and Gravecrawler, it's shrug-worthy.
Welp, I looked it over and decided to pass on white. Maybe Hour of Devastation will change my mind on it. I updated the OP to reflect AMK and posted my current decklist.
I haven't played my UB Zombies deck in a while, but I was thinking about it today. I skimmed through this thread, so I might have missed something, but has anyone tried Metallic Mimic as a pseudo zombie lord? It seems like it would be more useful here than in other tribal decks because of the creatures often coming back from the grave. MM gives a +1/+1 counter when the creature ETB, so whether it is cast from hand or returned from the grave, it would get the bonus. Plus it's colorless, so any mana can pay for it and it's cheap at only 2cmc. It's pretty fragile, dying to just about all removal in Modern, but the +1/+1 counters remain even if MM is killed. And it becomes a zombie so would get any other tribal benefits from the rest of the deck. I haven't tried it yet, but I have a playset so I might test it out when I have some time in the future. But I wanted to check here and see if it's been tried and deemed not useful already. Thanks!
Aha...that makes sense. I wasn't running any of the undying creatures in my list, so doesn't really impact me. I've got a pretty budget version of the deck. Thanks!
