I've been playing it for some time, roughly a year I think, and have had some good results with it. I drove up to my first GP in Toronto and made day two which was nice. I think that I have a good knowledge of the deck, but ultimately I feel I'm an average player.
It's also important to remember that this is a small sample size, as I've just recently gotten the deck on MTGO, but figured I'd share the data I've just begun to collect as it seems relevant to the discussion.
Looking at my data it's possible I made a mistake too, as I was trying to figure out the virtual card's in hand and messing around with the formula that would give me that information. At one point I mistakenly did not count eternal scourges exiled to gemstones thinking since they were counted in their own row they would be double counted. That was incorrect, and I thought I'd fixed them all though I obviously didn't. Going through and inputting 114 games of information can do that I guess. I'll attempt to fix it in the morning. I absolutely would never have a six card hand with gemstone and not exile something to it.
Edit: Added corrected data. Faster to do than I thought thanks to also keeping track of who I've played.
5:1:1 with one more time only 1 loose. But guys, it was not enough like all told me. 1 point to Less so i was place 10 and very dissapointed not top 8. only 50 Euro, a nice bag and cardbox like all 9-16. but i dont need feel sad, loosing only 1 time to my own means relic is powerful and it is possible even without chalice (my oppinion). Played 2 Main caverns + 1 in side and no blinkmoths but 4 tectonic edge
Ganz toll! Meine Frau's Familie wohnt bei Frankfurt und ich hatte zu JK entertainment für FNM gehen lezte Dezember. I started playing the deck after Jordan's SCG classic win. I've played stompy in various iterations since Oath of the Gatewatch and especially in legacy since the banning of Eye in modern. I have to say I love this pile. Jordan's 75 is great, I'll pick up a 3rd scavenger ground to try in place of the 2nd sea gate. I'm also gonna try 1 all is dust instead of 4th ratchet. In my LGS weeklies, I'm 7-1 with the only loss being a g3 to jund and I should've mulled my 7 (blinkmoth, scavenger ground, needle, ratchet, contortion, GQ, relic).
Wish I could play at SCG Milwaukee but I'm gonna judge both days so I could justify buying a fwb Deutsch volcanic island (sneak&show is now complete ).
I played this deck for the first time tonight at a Thursday night magic. I took 4th going 3-2. I lost to affinity and storm. Affinity was my first match and I really think I was just trying to figure it out. Storm was tough I was a mana off activating sea gate to draw a ratchet bomb to wipe away 12 goblins and swing for the win game 2. The deck is sweet and a fun time to play. I beat Jund, Green Tron and Bant Spirits. I’ll add that the Tron player wasn’t happy to lose by turn 4 on both game 1 and 2.
Thank you for posting the sideboard guide, I copied that down in my phone and it helped a ton!
the card itself really isn't worth the card board its printed on...does it serve a purpose? Sure its a blue 1 drop that might not be a 1/1. I would not put it in a list and expect to win a PTQ or GP though.
Testing relentlessly I’ve found that I want 3 of each gemstone, void, and GQ. No problem cutting the SeaGate, but I don’t want to cut another Cavern. Cavern is so good on the draw, makes me feel like I’m not even losing tempo, enables turn 2 thought knots easily. The card just feels too good not to run 3 of, Void is fantastic too, but the ramp we gain playing the Cavern is too potent I feel.

I think this is where I will probably end up too. But going to test a lot more before deciding. It's only been a couple days!

In the meantime, at my lgs, I went 0 sea gate 3 scavenger grounds 1 endless sands and it felt really good.
Endless sands nulled a Lilly activation by exiling my smahser that came back next turn killing my opponent. It also exiled two graveyards. It'll stay in my 75 till ZV is legal.

Sounds kind of niche and memey tbh. I’d rather just have a Seagate against Jund. All in all though this void card feels amazing. Just that little bit of added consistency has taken me so far. Twice today I scryed away a land into a smasher. The card literally might as well be a wastes that draws you a card in this deck. It’s funny how pumped I am for this land, but it’s just so good, unfortunately I’m going to be trying to cut something for a month now while trying to run 4 lol.

I tried endless sands as well when it was first released. I gave it a shot in place of Seagate.
It was extremely fun.....and 90% of the time useless.
This new land eliminates any hope of a slot being available for endless sands anymore.
Just not as good when we actually have to pay 2 for it. Not enough impactful creatures with 1 toughness, so all in all it’s mostly for countering sorcerers. If scapeshift was ever huge maybe I’d run it, but still the sideboard is tight. It’s way better in legacy as all your lands tap for 2. But as of now it’s just not that great.
I get that. I just dislike Sea Gate. When there are only, on average, 6.38 turns per game (for me), you don't really have the time to utilize it, I'd even run 4 grounds at this point, but 3 grounds and sands is almost the same thing.
It's kind of a moot point though since when DOM comes out ZV will be in these slots. I'm just finalizing slots for the modern GP that happens before that.
Also, @ManiakGS Warping wail is ok. Spatial is better. I used to run 3 wails when shapeshift was a huge part of the North Carolina meta, but it just didn't do enough to fix that matchup to be worth the slot for other matches, and now that shapeshift isn't as prevalent it's lacking compared to spatial.
@Mtgthewary here. It's just some comments on the article that don't do much to add to the conversation though.
I love my tectonic, i love my cavern, i love ghost quarter and gemstone is great...but i love our New Land too. Maybe i go up now with my lands to 25. i will try it ( i dont play SSG so its possible maybe). With ponzas everywhere it is ok i think and with so much scry now. Plan b is killing opponents with playset tectonic and GQ, so i need more lands too because i sacrifice a lot. Cutting caverns and 1 waste (played 3) and adding 1 slot of Land will give me my playset
I posted in the fb eldrazi group. Went 3-1 at FNM with the list Jordan won the classic with except I cut 2nd sea gate for 3rd scavenger. Definitely felt better. My 1 loss was because I misboarded vs counters coco and got comboed g2 mull to 4 and g3 top decked coco into e witness into infinite life. Puts record in weeklies at 9-2 and all losses because of mistakes.

First match against Lantern, 2-0. Out 4 Dismember, in 4 Ratchet Bomb
Second against RUG Jace, 2-0. I think i took out 4 mimics for 2 Ratchet Bomb and 2 Pithing Needle
Third round against Burn, 2-1. i took the dismembers and went with 3 Spartial contortions and 1 Ratchet bomb.
it's a sweet deck, but a little linear, I like more interactive decks, but it's a sweet thing to play from time to time

I have always wished warping wail could find a spot in the side.
what do you think about wail right now?

I was thinking that wail answers the same creatures with more utility.
the reason I am not running wail is because 2 mana is a lot more than zero mana lol.

Idk who doesn't run chalice in stompy but that seems bad and wrong. I guess you could swap them for relics in md/sb but I'd want chalice more for g1s.
