Been testing a new Kard for some time now and so far it felt underwhelming. Important note thought is that I don't have Lattice. I've ordered a foil version, but it would take at least a few weeks to arrive. Othewise bullet-searching was fun, but did not felt powerful enough in most matchups. Other abilities often felt irrelevant (let's face it, playing a 4 mana planeswalker to turn a 3-mana mana-rock intro a 3/3 is hardly a broken thing. Yes, it has some utility, but the real question is "does this card have more utility than the card it competes with for a slot").
On a side note Scion of Urza was a powerhouse in grindy matchups and single-handedly destroyed UW.
For those running Karn, the Great Creator, how many are you running? Is it mostly a 4 mana Stony Silence with upside?
I would add, Karn's +1 with Liquimetal Coating is some bizarre land destruction and you can open up some non-creature permanents to being hit by Dismember where we probably won't get Blast Zone to 4 or even want to do that. It would be funny to make Worship a 4/4 and Dismember it. Or a planeswalker.
[+1]: Until your next turn, up to one target noncreature artifact becomes an artifact creature with power and toughness each equal to its converted mana cost.

I am currently running 2, with a spread of utility tutor targets in the sideboard. In game ones it's been Stony Silence against Affinity that has an upside of de-equipping Cranial Plating and killing Mox Opals to shrink Master of Etherium. I have killed an Ensnaring Bridge by using the Animate-Dismember trick you mentioned, but that wouldn't be the primary reason I would have for it, just a niche benefit or upside.
To be more specific:
Are you running them main?
If so, what did you take out?
I feel like the main 60 is somewhat tight, so I am running mine in the side, also with some utility tutorable targets.

My current maindeck stands like this:
22 Creatures
4x Mimic, Scourge, TKS, Smasher, SSG
2x Endless One
14 Spells
4x Chalice, Serum Powder
3x Dismember
2x Karn, the Great Creator
1x Warping Wail
24 Land (listed above)
I cut other little Karn to try KtGC in the maindeck and trimmed some of the more numerous removal from the side to add "wish targets." It's been functioning fairly well so far, but as I listed above I have a minimal number of matches so my sample size isn't significant. I have never had issues with Death Shadow, Esper/Jeskai Control, Phoenix, or Dredge though...so that is a fair swathe of most of Modern's players.
I think I am off Warping Wail for the moment. Probably going to test this build, see how it goes. I like being able to get things that fight things out of the sideboard for certain matches. I like Scion and Ugin for the control and mid-range matches. Copter might come out of the main entirely, since I don't like being at 22 creatures, especially since it is really 18 as we can't cast SSG.
Part of me just really wishes Karn, Scion was an Artifact Planeswalker. I know, he's already good enough as he is, but man, it would be pretty amazing both thematically and utility-wise.
Well, I'm officially off Karn for now. He disappointed me yet again at FNM this week. All together, there was maybe one game that Karn won me that I otherwise would have lost. I was never able to lock anyone with Lattice and I only came close to doing it once. Even against decks that Karn should be alright against, I continuously found myself scrying him away or hoping I wouldn't draw him.
These are the problems I've had:
He's too hard to protect. Our deck want to be attacking and leaving back dorks to protect Karn goes against this plan. Too often Karn was a bad Diabolic Tutor because giving up pressure to protect him wasn't worth it.
He fits awkwardly in the curve. There are so many other things I'd rather be doing on Turn 4 than casting a card that doesn't affect the board against most decks. And late game I'd rather use my mana for Manlands or Blast Zones. It's hard to find the right timing to get Karn on board.
This deck can't get to the lock fast enough. We don't have the ability to immediately lock the game like Tron and Amulet decks do and getting to six mana is not a guaranteed thing with this deck either. This give opponents plenty of time to answer Karn.
Karn is a dead card against every aggro and fast combo deck of which there are plenty in Modern. More often then not, Karn is coming out so why bother running him. He feels like a sideboard card but you can't run Karn in the sideboard because of his unique abilities.
All in all, I don't think Colorless can utilize Karn very well compared to other archetypes. I will concede that there are some decks that lose to Karn that are very difficult for us without him (mostly prison decks). But I don't think these deck are a big enough part of the meta to justify running Karn, especially since it already appears that other decks that use Karn better have already pushed out prison decks. Funnily enough, I do think Karn actually is a boon for Colorless overall as we can easily kill Karns that are played against us and his presence in other decks is going to suppress a few of our worst match-ups. I might re-consider Karn if Modern Horizons adds something to the plan, but for now I recommend that anyone who wants to play Karn and Eldrazi together should play E Tron instead.
What's your sideboard look like? I've been too busy to play lately but theoretically, the floor is grabbing a batterskull/walking ballista/other good creature and the ceiling is grabbing a relevant hate card, which just seems solid to me... better than looting with copter I think. I haven't been excited about the lattice idea though, to be honest.

The problem is that grabbing a hate card with Karn is too slow. By turn 5 most decks have already executed their plan and hate is not very effective. The best use I got out of him was grabbing Spyglass to turn off Chandra vs Skred.
I played
1 Lattice
1 Damping Sphere
2 Spyglass
3 Ratchet Bomb
4 Relic
3 Spatial Contortion
1 Gut Shot
I could have played another Karn target in place of a Ratchet Bomb, but I dont think it would have changed anything. Can't use too many slots for Karn since the deck has to do a lot of sideboarding when Chalice is bad in the matchup.
10 R sources is a bit light, especially for sideboard with Anger. I've run an Eldrazi and Taxes W build, and while you don't use much main and maybe 10 is ok, it is going to be rough post-board. Also, you do lose a lot of the utility lands.
If you want to add a color, maybe more like Tom Medvec's deck, rather than the Serum Powder builds? Then again, it isn't the Serum Powder deck.
However you go, though, good luck!
@ThatOneNinja
I'm with you. Karn hasn't been good enough to main for sure. It is an interesting out to Artifact decks, however, which we have not had.
I'm not sure about the 2nd Copter, maybe that has to be a Relic of Progenitus now, or even 2 and no Copter, which is just too slow. Thoughts?
I was doing Ravenous Trap, but with 4 Leyline, probably don't need it, especially if I add Relic to the main. I have two spots I have not decided on yet.
I've recently tried a Red build as well and was impressed. My maindeck is similar, except - 1 Dismember and -1 Surgical for two Seasoned Pyromancers. I haven't had much time to try them, but Pyromancer has felt good. Pitching extra chalices + Powders for cards is gas and its not too hard for this deck to empty its hand and straight up draw cards. It's also way for the deck to make up the lost selection of cards from dropping Zhalfrin Void for red sources.
My manabase is still a work in progress, but I am running one more red source and I probably should run another. I'm trying two Prismatic Vista with 2 wastes and 2 Mountains and its been fine so far. Unfortunately, I think cutting down to one Mutavault + Gemstone Caverns is the only way to get enough red sources.
As for the your sideboard, I'm not a huge fan of some of the cards. I think Alpine Moon is bad in a deck with Chalice of the Void. If you want more Tron hate I would run Damping Sphere or Sorcerous Spyglass. Shatterstorm >>> By Force, though I don't think either is necessary since new Karn has really supressed artifact decks lately. I'm running Chandra, Torch of Defiance instead of Hazoret, but I'm thinking about running a third Seasoned Pyromancer in that slot.
I much prefer Lightning Bolt over Rending Volley. Sure, Volley can get Thing in the Ice, but Bolt is better against pretty much everything else in the format. Being able to blast planeswalkers and mana dorks is important. I'd also try to squeeze a couple of Relics in the board since you need them to grind out control and midrange decks. Maybe a 3-2 split of Leyline and Relic.
So far I've enjoyed the red version. Having real sideboard cards is a big deal. I won multiple games thanks to Bolt, Chandra, and Abrade that would not have been winnable with colorless sideboard cards.
@redtwister
I've still have yet to find a good 60th card for Colorless. Coptor is OK, but I wouldn't run two. You should be running 4 Mimics. Relic should be fine 60th card in this GY heavy meta.
So Mystic Forge is a card worth discussing. I feel like it's better than Smugglers Copter and better than the sideboard Karn, Scion of Urza I often see. It even has some minor synergy with Eternal Scourge.

Good Creator target! Lets us turn a slammed Karn into more advantage even if they deal with it right away. Rounds out Crucible in that way, which is more conditional.
the card itself really isn't worth the card board its printed on...does it serve a purpose? Sure its a blue 1 drop that might not be a 1/1. I would not put it in a list and expect to win a PTQ or GP though.

Not sure we are looking for a tutor-able anthem in any matchups, though. And that's what Icon is most of the time. Using it as a CMC engine all but requires two turns per spell found, which also locks out what we get in the draw step; Forge costs another turn to come down, but after that, it draws the cards for free. That's important if we want to make good use of the extra cards by casting them.

Too many high-cost cards in all 3 decks.

I plan to write a report, but likely will do it in Russian, so here are some random thoughts:
1) I must admit I don't like Karn, TGC after tests - I really like the concept of the card and wanted it to be playable, but I don't think it belongs to this deck anymore. Logic is simple: when we are ahead Karn is a classic winmore. When we are behind, Karn is 4-mana tutor with an option to soak in 3 damage. Then yes, there are 10% of cases when Karn actually changes course of the game. Can't say it's bad, but also don't think it's good enough.
2) Karn, SoU is a great grind card. I've played with one in SB and was impressed. Now trying it MB. Don't think we need 2, though. If you don't want to play it I would play Relic MB as an occasional gravehate / grind option. I never liked copter and don't want to return to it. Looks like we've yet to find a bullet for this flex slot.
3) Hogaak is a good matchup - I've never lost a match against it.
4) SB Torpor Orb is a tool to fix atrocious Human matchup. I won't play it unless you have a high share of Humans in your meta.
5) I don't like LotV in this deck. Nobody cares about single Leyline anymore. There are a million of matches for which relic would come in, but Leyline won't (e.g. UW / Jund).
Let me know if anybody wants a link to top-8 VODs - coverage is in Russian, but could be interesting for somebody, I guess.
Intentional draw. I was the one of 2 players with 15 points after round 5 and had #1 standings after rounds 5 and 6, so top (and a good seed) was guaranteed and there was no need to play these rounds.
Depends on UW build (opponent's playstyle) and play/draw.
Normally I would try smth like:
-2 Dismember (keep 2 to fight Lira / Resto)
-1/2 Chalice
-2/3 SSG
+3/4 Relics
+1 Needle / Spyglass
+0/1 Surgical
The cards you are looking for in post-board configuration: Scourge+Relic, manlands, Karn, fast TKS.
On the draw the grindy hand could be better than a fast hand (as long as it's not T2 TKS / Smasher)
Overall, the match-up is rather good, but always somewhat emotionally taxing due to its playpatterns (e.g. my SF match lasted 90 minutes).
On a side note Scion of Urza was a powerhouse in grindy matchups and single-handedly destroyed UW.
