Hey guys, I've just recently started getting into Modern after being a pretty much solely kitchen table player for years. And I've realized that a deck I had put together actually is technically Modern legal, and I was wondering if I could get some suggestions on possibly making it actually competitive for Modern play. If it ultimately isn't viable, that's fine, I've just always enjoyed piloting the deck and think it'd be cool to take this to the field.
You might look at some of the Eldrazi Processor decks. They can benefit from Eldrazi mana/lands which you probably have room for in your build.
Semblance Anvil is weird because if you exile an artifact creature, both artifacts and creatures are cheaper. You might consider this, and favor artifact creatures. There is some synergy in the processor decks, because they tend to run a lot of artifacts to help exile your opponents stuff. Spine of Ish Sah, is a really cool option to have, especially after you have made it cheaper with Semblance Anvil.
Card draw is really good in decks like this so look at cards that can help draw/cycle so that you find your power cards over and over. I like the Rune-scarred's. A lot of times just finding another Rune-Scarred is what you want, but being able to get clone or Phyrexian Metamorph (even better than Clone, because its easier to cast multiples).
Having a Utility suite of cards to search for with Rune-Scarred is really nice. Glen Elendra Archmage is very effective at allowing you to close out games with protection from removal spells.
How's U/ treating you?
Also, do you have a budget for upgrading this deck? That way I won't be throwing out suggestions for cards that might be out of your price range(ahem, Consecrated Sphinx.
Have you thought about switching up your land base?
A decent budget land base would be:
Coming up is the list I've been tweaking since Heartless and crew(inferno Titan, blood gift demon, Urabrask, etc.) were standard. I dominated with my mill deck during rise of eldrazi/new phyrexia, and thought it was time to go aggro for a while. Big Red really shined when it came to closing out the game as well as getting rid of chump blockers:
I've been thinking of going greedy and splashing in green for Fauna Shaman to increase the consistency of Urabrask into Inferno Titan. I've also been thinking of packing more ETB(enters the battlefield) triggered creatures for disruption and removal. Green would give me access to Reclamation Sage, Acidic Slime, and other similar creatures.
With how it stands now, I've got a problem with combo if I can't find a Trinisphere in the first few turns. It's really my only way to interact with my opponent and slow them down if they don't use creatures.
Hopefully this will help generate some ideas for you so you can see some more success with your heartless deck.
I haven't played the deck in a few weeks, but I really don't think the manabase has to be touched all that much. From what I remember it really isn't that hard to cast everything as it's a 2-colored deck. Also, while I definitely can splurge on some cards, I'm not going to be getting sets of fetches/shocks anytime soon.

Thoughts?
