I was playing around with Collected Company and using it to cheat out cheap creatures (Myr Superion, Talara's Battalion, etc). It started out as a casual deck I was just playing on Cockatrice, but I really like modern and would like to convert it. When the deck works it has several turn 4 wins that aren't too hard to work. But sometimes its just a bad Gruul Zoo deck. I know this isn't too competitive and I can't afford anything like Tarmogoyf, but let's see what we can come up with!
The problem with this is that Bloodbraid Elf is banned. But in practice this card is really necessary. It acts as a second Collected Company (4 mana 2 creatures) and with out it the deck is just a bad G/R aggro deck that sometimes cheats out a 5/6. This leaves us with 4 slots that aren't filled.
I also don't like Goblin Guide as a card for this deck. Collected Companing for a 2/2 is just not as fun.
That and the 2 slots I just have empty, I' looking for about 10 cards to help this deck preform.
Yeah, that's the one. I know the idea is to eot Collected during opponent's turn, but some haste outlet wouldn't be bad, right? Or am I over thinking this?
Really the big thing will be getting cards that you disrupt fast linear plans like Infract and Twin but are still hits off of Collected Company. Certainly Spellskite. Sadly Gaddock Teeg hoses company. Maybe Magus of the Moon in the sideboard?
You could replace it with something like Violent Outburst though. It's bad, but at least it's legal.
I can't see why you'd want to do this. Not only is Violent Outburst a terrible card, it reduces the number of cards in the deck that Collected Company can hit, and since the deck is built around Collected Company you'd want to avoid doing that.
If you're willing to splash (which may not be worth it) Serra Avenger is another undercosted beater with a drawback you can ignore. Priest of Urabrask is another ritual creature like BTE (albeit not as flexible). Arbor Elf is probably better than Llanowar Elves since it can untap your Stomping Grounds to get red as well as green. Aether Vial also seems like it would be good here--if you set it to 2, you can get free mana (BTE) or instant-speed uncounterable fatties.
A Turn 4 Talara's Battalion off a Collected Company loses quite a bit of its shine when you could be flipping Leatherback Baloth instead. Unless you actually hardcast Talara's Battalion often enough or the Trample matters that much, I'd swap some out for Goyf/Siege Rhino/Tasigur-blocking Leatherbacks. (Leatherbacks should be relatively easy to cast with 8 green-making mana dorks and only 4 lands that can't make green mana.)

Yeah in my opinion, and a lot of what is already said seems to be that playing those 2cmc creatures on turn 4 is maybe not where you want to be. What are you really gaining from doing a turn 4-5 Talara's Battalion? I think your deck would benefit greatly as a deck that is chock full of 1-drop mana producers, then a buch of 3 cmc powerhouses and giant creatures. This way you can do a turn 2 big guy with your extra mana, and still have creatures in the deck to support casting Myr Superion. Also with having a bunch of 3 cmc creatures you will get the most out of Collected Company by putting 6 mana worth into play.
The original casual list was:
4 Collected Company
4 Burning-Tree Emissary
4 Bloodbraid Elf
Things to Cheat
4 Myr Superion
4 Talara's Battalion
4 Birds of Paradise
4 Llanowar Elves
Aggro Stuff
4 Goblin Guide
4 Lightning Bolt
4 Stomping Ground
4 Rootbound Crag
4 Wooded Foothills
6 Forest
4 Mountain

He's asking for advice for porting a deck from one format to another, so I don't see why he wouldn't post the original list.

A lot of times, and this is true for Myr Superion as well, I can turn two a Burning-Tree Emissary in order to cast either Talara's Battalion or Myr Superion. Also, It would be turn 3 usually with dorks (though that would a turn 2 Leatherback Baloth).
