Okay, I'll upload these vids when I get home from work.
Jund ist really difficult to beat.
I sometimes face a very good Jund player at FNM (he almost always goes 4-0) and basically it comes down to this: If I have T3 Geist and he has no Lily in hand I win, if I play T3 Geist and he has a Lily in hand he wins...
But of course it's a bit more complicated than this. A good strategy to win is to kill the Jund opponent with a lot of burn to the face in combination with damage from his own Bobs.
All cards that give you real card advantage are good. The best in my opinion is Light up the Stage, because the Jund player can't make you discard these two cards. Fact or Fiction should be very good too.
Planeswalkers are good too. Little Gideon and Elspeth can be troublesome for your Jund opponent (until he finds an Ass Trophy...).
Regarding the SB, Celestial Purge is one of our best cards against them because it kills Raging Ravine, Bloodbraid and Liliana. EE is a good answer to Goyfs, Deflecting Palm is bad because they make you discard it before they attack.
The problem is that they have better SB options against us than we have against them. If they board in 3 Fulminators and 1 Choke against my deck my winning chance becomes real slim. The player in my LGS even has a Thrun in his SB
So yeah, like I said: Jund ist really difficult to beat.
I got a Rip out and that hurts a lot for them. Tof is useless, kolaghan's command get less value.
Why I side out snappy is because rip. I don't get the value to flashback. But better to mayby take thing in the ice instead?
I gona buy a couple of those cards you say.
I also gona test this kind of side.
2x jace the mind sculpture
2x geist of sant traft
1x Alpine moon
2x spell snare
2x Rip
1x Day of judgment
1x Firesprout ( guys test this card. It's so awesome)
1x force of negotiation
2x ceremony rejection
I don’t like a RIP vs Jund. Snapcaster Mage is your best card in the matchup.
The win/lose ratio depends on your decklist. Generally speaking, I’ve always had a 50-50 performance against Jund and BG with Delver (without Geist), while it was around 35-65 vs Abzan due to Lingering Souls. The key is having better manipulation, less dead draws (aka lands, cause we play 18-19), and... Snappies. Flash threats, generally speaking, are strong here.
I wasn’t talking about the card itself, but concerning the BGx matchup. They die to Lily and get outclassed by every single creature on the battlefield.
Then, if you ask me, I think Geist is a great sb card, not maindeckable, but I don’t pretend to know everything about it.
I love the lively discussion about Jund. It's a really fun matchup to play. The difficulty of the matchup is part of what makes it fun to play against. The games are very skill intensive so when you win a game you really feel like you won the game based on play rather than draws in most cases. Here are a few of my takes on our discussion so far.
1. Geist of Saint Traft in the matchup really depends on your list. If you have Distortion Strike, Emerge Unscathed, Threads of Disloyalty, Spell Pierce, and/or Force of Negation he is a great option. I say this because he avoids a lot of their removal spells and can do so major damage. It comes down to a top deck war a lot of the time and there is no better threat on an empty board than Geist. You have to be able to protect him from a Liliana of the Veil. Liliana is the main reason that Geist can be bad against Jund. Tarmogoyf is another reason jund gives geist a tough time. Basically if you have evasion for geist and protection for Geist he can be very good. If not, he is a miss in the matchup. It really comes down to your gameplan against jund and your build.
The argument of the maindeckability of Geist is really a build dependent argument and also meta dependent. I think Force of Negation makes Geist a much better threat now than it used to be. I have also found that Geist creates very polorized views. People either LOVE Geist or HATE geist. In most cases they are right whichever side they fall on. I say that because they have valid reasons for both in their situation.
2. You really need a gameplan against jund. Just trying to out value them is not going to be a great plan most of the time. They will likely out value you in the long run. I try to take a tempo approach or straight aggro. You can go straight aggro with Deflecting Palm. I personally don't go with the deflecting palm aggro plan, but if your build is super aggro it can be done. A neat card in the past that I thought about using in the gamplan against jund is Kari Zev's Expertise. The idea being to kill them before they can really get a ton of value.
I personally go with a more tempo based strategy. Celestial Purge is the go to sideboard card against jund. I basically try to keep things clean and control the board will damaging them slowly. Bedlam Reveler, Snapcaster Mage, and Chandra, Fire Artisan refill my hand once I have cast all of my cards. I love having these "top end" options that can be played on the tempo plan, but also can refill or give back card advantage that we have lost through our tempo plan. Experimental Frenzy is another card I have utilized in the past that is bonkers against them if you can keep it round. I also like Chandra, Torch of Defiance and Chandra Pyromaster.
3. Rest in Peace vs Snapcaster Mage. I don't think RIP hits enough to side in against jund and I think snapcaster mage is way to valuable to play. For myself I can't side in RIP because I also play Bedlam Revelar, but that is more of corner case.
4. Abzan midange is even tougher than Jund. I totally agree that abzan is even tougher than jund, but that is an entire other dicussion. I have nightmares from the pod days and especially the dreaded Seige Rhino days.
Bloody Rabbit- I think Dreadhorde Anarchist is AMAZING. I have been working on testing him in another build and he can be bonkers. I do think he really needs free spells and pump spells to really work out such as Mutagenic Growth, Distortion Strike, etc. Also Opt and Serum Visions are great. They really hit it out of the park with the design of this card. If you find a great build with Dreadhoarde Anarchist let us know because that card is really cool. Wizards are the best creature type in my opinion so I am really trying to make a wizards deck work with him.
This is my current decks. Missing 2 sideboard cards to fill up. So come with som inputs, advise.
And are geist so bad?
I talked about my thoughts on Geist in my prior post. I personally LOVE geist and he has been in every build I have made since I came back to magic in the new phyrexia days (played originally during the early days and quit during ice age).
Now onto your decklist. I found that delver didn't work well with Thing in Ice for the most part. It's not horrible because it just bounces it, but I couldn't find a way to make them work better than other decks that already played thing in ice. Thing in Ice does work extremely well with snapcaster mage and vendilion clique. That is some valuable synergy.
I feel like the deck should either go more aggressive/spell based or less. You don't want to play a worse version of the UR phoenix deck so possibly going a bit more control oriented would work. You could cut the manamophose and add Cryptic Command, Narset, Parter of Veils, Force of Negation, Remand, etc. Therefore, the Thing in Ice are more of a value based flip that work inside the gameplan instead of just trying to flip them through spells. Then you can side into a more aggressive deck post board. Take all of this advise with a grain of salt because I have not tested with Thing in Ice for a long time. So this is all theory based. I just wanted to share some thoughts.
By the way, I don’t think that Thing in the Ice and Delver of Secrets don’t go well in the same deck. They cover different flaws against different strategies. I ran the mono blue Snap-Delver-Thing from Cuneo, before Probe’s ban, and it was honestly amazing. It’s still a decent deck, but Probe’s ban really cut its legs.
We all here have all differents decks and differens thoughts. I have played with this playstyle for a time now.
And why I love with this is deck is if you won't have delver turn 1 I go with thing in the ice turn 2.
then I can flipp it turn 3.
I can go differents and that's is why i like it :).
and if delver go up with on my hand it's doesn't matter for me.
That deck sounds like a lot of fun. Is it the one with Disrupting Shoal, Commandeer, and Psionic Blast?. I remember the GP where that deck did well because it was near me. I do think that deck is a bit of a corner case. I do think they fit different cases and are good against different decks which can be very valuable. However, it can also be a bit of a headache, especially in game one. They both need a lot of spells so they can be built in the same deck and both do well. I have just found that modern right now is so fast that you want to have a fairly cohesive plan in game 1 and then side into whatever works best. Again, I haven't had a ton of experience with TITI so I am basing this off of what I have seen and theory. If anyone has played with the two cards together a lot and they work well for you than I may just be flat wrong.
There really isn't any replacement for delver in most cases. I have seen some phoenix players playing Ptremandor. I would just stick with delver if I were you. It sounds like Bloody Rabbit has played with TITI and Delver together and liked it and that you have also had success with the combination of TITI and Delver. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
I agree with you MrWickard. We have a lot of different decks on here. Jeskai tempo/aggro-control really allows you to build a deck to your own specific likes and dislikes. I love to see all of the lists and love to hear what you guys would change to my own lists.
I was very sad that probe was banned, but I agreed at the time that it needed to be banned. I loved probe in my prowess list. The card I don't think needs a ban is Dig Through Time. Especially now that we have a three costed planeswalker that lets you cast dig through time twice, but that is an entire other topic about wizards distain for spells and love for permanents, especially creatures.
Whenever you cast a noncreature spell, create a 1/1 white Spirit creature token with flying.
Sacrifice a Spirit: Add R.
I will put up the picture soon.
I was actually looking forward to seeing this card when I read the story this morning. I like this card a lot. I think it will definitely see play in commander. I don't think it slots directly into my current deck, but it could definitely see play in a mentor style deck. We will see with time. It doesn't really knock it out of the park at 4 mana so I don't see it seeing much play, but it's an interesting card none the less.
Not gonna lie this card looks dope. I think it could go real well in a queller list especially with force of negation... gives us even more reason to run FoN
Also guys a burn list made 2nd place with 4 monastery mentor.. thought that was i teresting

I run a semi transformational SB from a tempo to a more control list

1. I think FON fits in your sideboard much better than the mainboard. It would be a great 2 of in your board if you see a lot of fast combo.
2. That's a wide range of decks. Abrade is great for the decks you listed so two in the mainboard is good. Rest in peace is great for dredge and pryomancer. For control you want Dovin's Veto, Dispel, Teferi, Time Raveler and Narset Parter of Veils. Most vial decks we already have a great matchup, especially with two main deck Abrades. Scapeshift and Amulet you can play some combination of land destruction, Unsettled Mariner, and the new Leyline of Combustion works well. Leyline of Sanctity also is a catch all for a lot of decks. Engineered Explosives is a great catch all against a lot of weird decks. I have found Hurkyl's Recall and Wear // Tear to be nice catch alls for a lot of stuff as well. I personally like Deflecting Palm also. If Neoform and Hogaak continue (and I think they will) then Hallowed Moonlight is nice. I really hope to see Containment Priest in core set 2020 as well.
3. I think Elspeth is just different from the Gideon's. I think whichever you prefer at the top end would work just fine. If you didn't have Geist I would say the Gideons are a better choice, but with Geist Elspeth is pretty nice.
4. I think a tranformational sideboard with those cards would work well, especially since those are cards you will likely have in the board anyways. I start game one as a tempo deck and then turn into a more controlling or more aggressive deck post board.
Its hard to tell but perhaps a big control deck since you run alot of creatures. Which in that case the planeswalkers help you.
Perhaps even tron would be a problem for that deck bc of O-stone.
But what i meant is for example have your transformative cards along with singles or doubles of the specific hate cards that have some broad application like celestial purge, abrade
Transformative cards like search for azcanta, teferi, c-command.. so you could switch to a more control. Or add in spell quellers, negates, and the like to build a more tempo build apart from your more aggro build.
I do something similar with half my sideboard and the other half is stuff like purge, abrade, reinforcements, staticaster, etc. which are brought in along with the transformation cards do I do have some hate vs my opponents decks along with a complete change of my main so its even more difficult for them to adjust.

If you don't currently have a copy or two of Lavinia, Azorius Renegade in your sideboard you may want to try to find a spot for it. It is really good against Hogaak decks as well as Neoform. She stops the opponent from casting Hogaak and also stops them from casting Alazorous Rider in Neoform. She also has some splash effect against Tron, random simian spirit guide decks, storm, living end, and pacts (summoner's and negation). I am running two copies in my board while Tron, Hogaak, and Neoform gain meta share because of the new mulligan rule.
