So long as it's in print it won't be over 10-15$. Look at Trophy, which is played much more. Also, this one is far more brutal in Legacy and Vintage, I'll definitely try it, but I was thinking more along the lines a UW Midrange shell than a delver shell.
My question is, which deck would we want to side it in against?
The only 2 that I can think off the top off my head are storm and tron.
Nevermind, its not even that good against storm, in some corner cases where they are stuck at 3 lands and want to cast Gifts or PiF. My first thought against storm was that the copies of grapeshot or empty are countered, but that doesnt work either, as they are not cast but just copies.
And versus tron its just a 2/2 body that doesnt even do that much. There are better hate cards for tron, like Alpine moon, which is fantastic in my opinion, Stony silence and our disruption package should be sufficient here. If we cant amount any reasonable amount of pressure tron does its thing regardless and we are loosing anyway.
I would love to here your reasoning as why you guys think, the card is worth running in the sideboard, I am very curious.
On another note. Some of you may or may not remember me asking wether foiling out the deck or getting it on modo was more reasonable. The general answer was getting it on modo was more beneficial, but guess what, I am almost done foiling out my maindeck. A playset of snapcasters is on its way to me and witht that just 9 cards remain nonfoil. Modo may have made me a slightly better magic player, but I love the social interaction off the game, and just as curbros I have a small group off friends I play with. I just enjoy the social aspect off the game and the company of good friends, talking smack and about plays and lines off play would have been better, basically getting better together.
Anyway mind if I post what I have got right now in the next few days?
Hi Mazeron. I totally agree. The social aspect of the game is the best part of the game in my opinion. I do love having MTGO as an option to run some games, but for me the social aspect of the game is a very important part. I could see MTGO being more important to players who want to go pro or make money in magic. I think Arena will get more people into playing the physical game. A vast majority of the new players on Arena will only play on Arena, but a small percentage will look into going to their local game store so I think it will definitely be good for the game in the long run.
I always love seeing other peoples decks (online and in real life). That's one of the great reasoning to be on these boards. You can show off some of your favorite possessions to people who appreciate them and the work that went into obtaining them. I would love to see what you have so far.
As for Lavinia, I think she is more of a filler than an actual hate card. She is good against super weird stuff like living end, ad nauseum, vizier combo (convoke), tron, etc. I am going to give it a try in my empty slot. I don't see it lasting forever because something more effective will likely get printed, but it's definitely an option I will keep in my "sideboard box" just in case of future degenerate decks. Also, I totally agree and think that Alpine Moon is super underrated in tempo and aggro-control decks right now. I love that card because it finally gave me something against one of our worst matchups in Valakut.
Seems very nice deck. Tho my deck is not like that witch is nice to see new decks coming up.
2x Chandra?
How has she worked for you?
Any problem with flood?
I figure this is more midrange set up?
I wanted to ask a similar question: How did you end up with 2x Chandra, Torch of Defiance? There are so many other good CMC4 PWs in Jeskai colors whom you could play when Chandra is already in play. Jace, the Mind Sculptor would add so many style points for having three Jeskai superfriends Nahiri, the Harbinger is awesome even without Emrakul...
One more question: What makes 4 Unsubstantiates better than 4 Remands in your deck?
Censor testing complete, it didn't play well. Whenever you wanted it, Remand would be better. I am only running 2 Remand anyway, so I will go to a full playset.
I have some questions about the manabase for a more experienced player. Running a delver manabase with 18 lands often leads to screw, and fetches only exaggerate that problem by thinning your deck. In your opinion, would replacing fetchlands with fastlands (Spirebluff Canal, Inspiring Vantage, and Seachrome Coast) be beneficial to the deck?
I barely managed to go to modern night this week, I got 3-1!
Match 1: Faeries (2-0)
Game 1: T3 Delver flip, rode it out to victory. This deck was more of an control version, not the kind with cliques and more cliques.
SB: -2Vendilion Clique, +2Anger of the Gods
Bitterblossom is annoying, so the ability to reset a board is great. Clique is okay, but not great here.
Game 2: Snapcaster double bolt a kalitas, eke out a win with burn spells past 1/1 faeries.
Match 2: TitanShift (2-0)
Game 1: Played geist t3, remanded scapeshift, won because opponent couldn't find interaction.
SB: I don't have hate for this matchup, so I ran it back out.
Game 2: Opponent can't find Titan or scapeshift despite ramping to 8 lands, easy win.
Matches 3 and 4 coming soon!
Match 3: BridgeVine (0-2)
Game 1: Opponent gets the nut hand, attacks with 2 Vengevines t2. I scoop to a t3 kill (I had no interaction)
SB:-4 Remand +2 Rest in Peace +2 Anger of the Gods
Game 2: I don't draw RiP, opponent goes for a slower strategy with fatal push and discard. Lose in 7 turns.
Match 4: Taxes (2-1)
Game 1: I get stuck under a Crucible of Worlds, Leonin Arbiter, and Ghost Quarter lock. Scoop.
SB: -4 Remand +2 Anger of the Gods +2 Abrade
Anger kills armies of weenies, Abrade can be spot removal or take out a vial. (I'm not sure about abrade though. Maybe it's bad because of Thalia's tax.)
G2: No lock, got kill with Geist after removing Thalia.
G3: Mana screwed opponent, I win with flipped delver. That's variance for you, I guess.
In my Delver decks I'm playing 18-19 lands with 4 Fastlands (2 Spirebluff, 1 Seachrome, 1 Vantage), 4 Shocklands (2 Steam Vents, 1 Hallowed, 1 Sacred) 3 Basics (2 Islands, 1 Plains, or 1 of each (depending on the amount of field of ruins I'm expecting) and 6-7 fetch lands. I'm personally playing Blood Moons in the sideboard, but this configuration has served me well.
Also no Izzet Staticaster against Fairies? It wrecks most of their creatures.
I play 19-20 lands, 7 fetchs 4 shock lands, 3 fastlands, 3 checklands, 3 basic. I want to add a manland to the mix. pyroclasm is a good SB slot quicker than anger.
I found it hard to play under 19 lands, the fetches help.
I have found 19 lands to be a sweet spot for me personally. I run 7 fetches, 3-4 fastlands, 1 buddy land, 4 basic lands, 3-4 shock lands (sometimes I run the additional shock and sometimes a fast land). I have always found that if I run into a problem with mana screw I literally just add another land to the deck and run it at 61 cards. This is especially good for decks that don't have a lot of deck manipulation. I used to run 19-20 lands, but now with 3 serum visions, 4 opt, and 1 izzet charm/faithless looting, I can get away with 19 lands. I keep any opening hand with a one drop threat and a cantrip typically.
I agree with WickedApp. I have tried the deck with 18 lands and just found it hard to have consistent land drops. I think 19-20 is likely the sweet spot for most decks. I only run 19, but my average CMC is also very low. If you have having problem with land screw just run 20 lands and 61 cards. It's like adding another 3/4 of a land to the deck :).
I agree that Field of Ruin might cause more problems than it's worth, especially if you are running 19-20 lands. I would cut the two copies of field of rune. I would add another copy of Spirebluff Canal. If you want to run 20 lands just add the 4th Scalding Tarn.
Since you are cutting the field of ruins you would probably want another copy of Alpine Moon in the sideboard. You could add a copy of Boros Charm to the main deck to open up the slot.
On another note, both spectacle and addendum can both work in our deck if the correct card is printed. We will see what happens.
As for field of ruin, it is much to slow. I wouldn't worry about problematic lands game 1, but you can run some hate sideboard if your meta calls for it.
On another topic, remember this boegeyman?
I have 2 sideboard slots he could fit in, although he's not well positioned against aggro, which makes up a ton of the meta right now. I could see him working, but he might just be another card for the sideboard page of my binder.
1. This is a more aggressive take on a 'Team Geist' style midrange-tempo style deck (from 2015-16)as an alternative to the current Queller tempo. (I have had miserable luck with Queller/Cryptic style builds of Jeskai tempo, preferring a lot more burn and Geist interactions. Is it the best deck as compared to Queller Tempo or control? Probably not. Is it fun as hell? Yes, yes it is!
2. Chandra, Torch of Defiance is a favorite card of mine. Hence why I have two copies of her (though it might become one main and one side)
3. Jace in my proxy-testing likes having Cryptic and Queller in the same shell to better protect him, whereas with Torch of Defiance I can immediately convert her abilities into burn, which is good alongside Geist and my burn package. I am not going to dismiss Jace, and I may continue to test him, as he is a very good card. However, I feel like he isn't quite tuned to what I want this version of the deck to be doing.
4. Have yet to test Nahiri.
5. Unsubstantiate can bounce blockers that are standing in front of Geist, it can bounce things like Verdict and Decay, but above all, I don't physically have Remands, so Unsub is a substitute until I get a playset.
Goyftomcat- That lists looks like a patented GofyTomcat list. I need to give Chandra a try in my sideboard for the grindy matchups. I am a huge fan of unsubstantiate and I think it's a great alternative to remand if you don't own them.
Jeskai Mage- I have often thought the same thing. Jace should be amazing in the more grindy matchups. He really does it all and can help with flood in the late game. I will be trying a copy in my sideboard or mainboard. Worse case scenario, it looks really cool when you cast him :). In all honesty I really do need to test him out a bit more.
Hi everyone, hope you all had a nice Christmas
Did someone actually get MtG cards as a present?
Yesterday I was checking some Modern decks and found this sweet list!
I think it hasn't been posted on here yet. GofyTomcat1 might like this Geist list. I like how the deck is build with 23 lands and 3 Figures instead of Delvers. And it seems to work pretty well since it won a Modern Cup at the Hareruya store with 37 players.
I am still alternately playing my Jeskai tempo deck with WW top-end (Brimaz and little Gideon) and my Dark Jeskai tempo deck with 2 K-Commands and Sorin and Olivia Voldaren as top-end. I am having a blast with both decks and the win rates for both decks are about the same. If there would be a big Modern tournament next week I couldn't decide which version I should play...
In the version without black I've been using Test of Faith as a 1-of last week and it's very good. Bolt is the most played card in Modern and this is the perfect answer. During one game my opponent ragequitted the moment I was using it for the second time with Snappy
It's more aggressive and fun. I don't think it will be as competitive, but it will be fun to see people lose it when I play Emerge Unscathed and Distortion Strike.
Hi CurdBros, I like your list even more with these two cards. They'll make your deck even more competitive
Some food for thought:
I stumbled over an old forgotten card and I think it might be a very good SB card for us in the current meta! Hushwing Gryff
Has anyone tried it lately?
It's very good against 2 of the most popular aggro decks: Spirits & Humans.
(shuts down Queller, P Image, Meddling M, Reflector M, Thalia's L, Freeboter - with instant speed!)
It's also good against some combo decks: Valakut & Dredge.
(shuts down Titan and Baloths (which are a real pain after SB), shuts down P Amalgam too)
Against Dredge I board out 1-2 of my Snappys anyways because I bring in GY hate...
It also seems decent against control decks when it's played in response to Snappy or Clique.
Other important creatures/decks it's good against: Thought-Knot Seer, Soul Sisters, 8-Whack, Kitchen Finks & Eternal Witness...

Thanks StevomatUWR! It will be a blast to play my old favorites again.
I do like Hushwing Gryff right now. I have played it in the past, but haven't had it in my sideboard in awhile. It's the kind of card that is really good when it's good and right now it's really good. I will likely play that in my empty sideboard slot. Great call.
Glad you like Gryff
I even forgot another deck which gives me nightmares and which Gryff is really good against: Eldrazi & Taxes!
Gryff shuts down 90% of that deck's creatures' triggered abilities
And what do you think about this new card?
Not interesting for the 19 land lists here on the thread but for us crazy guys who play 21-22 lands it might be worth a try. The competition in the CMC4 slot is huge though...
What do we think? Slight Aggro-bend to it...I'm going to test it I think (as 3-drop walkers are nearly always powerful). Just spitting out tokens and gaining life may be worth it vs. certain midrange decks. I think he will likely be a sideboard card, not maindeck.
