I agree adding Force of Negation to the deck. I just built this and I still miss some key cards.
I played against dredge, devoted combo, infect and vannifair combo.
I have no idea how I beat dredge. This match seems to be really hard. I could see adding a third Ashiok, Dream Render to the sideboard as it works really well against many other decks too. Maybe Surgical Extraction too, but not sure.
Matches against creature decks are really fun. They have a hard time to assemble the combo, but you have a hard time winning as well.
Against infect I hold up several removals all the time and felt there was no danger at any point. Turn one Grim Lavamancer was crazy good.
I won two games with Celestial Colonnade. I can see playing less or no copies at all. For now I will play three copies and see how it goes.
I have not played against eldrazi tron, but would probably keep Brazen Borrower in. Chalice of the Void is something I would be worried about. You could bounce it end of turn and have at least one turn where you can use your removal.
Awesome list! As ccc1522 said, we discuss all manner of jeskai and delver decks here. We welcome all! I love the list. That is one of the great things about the jeskai shard in modern. It really allows one to customize their list.
I do agree that three colonnade is a lot. I just hate having lands come in tapped. I typically play a lower curve that is more proactive so I rarely ever play colonnade. I just feel like by the time you would need it you would likely have it with two copies.
As for brazen borrower ccc1522, I actually really like it against eldrazi tron for the exact reason that ohers have said. I like having a "catch all" against chalice of the void and ensnaring bridge. They can end a game for us so it's nice to have something against it. Eldrazi tron is just a really tough matchup. It is particularly tough for the more midrange style builds. Path is great against them so that is nice. To reliably beat them the sideboard plan has to be good. I used to like ceremonious rejection, but I have seen a lot of caverns lately in eldrazi tron so I haven't been running it as much. I think Disdainful Stroke is much more usable right now given all of the ramp decks in the meta as well.
Against Dredge I like Graffdigger's Cage and Ashiok, Dream Render. I also run Anger of the Gods. We aren't going to out race them so we basically have to become a tempo/control deck. Celestial purge and Surgical Extraction are also great options. I used to run surgical over cage, but with all of the heliod/druid combo right now, graffdigger's cage hits multiple matchups. It does hurt our snapcaster mages, but it hurts the opponent way more. Rest in peace is also a great option for any jeskai list.
I have to say that modern seems like its lost so much attention. It seems like its dying to me around my area. The printing of those powerful cards along with the bannings has just decimated my local meta to where its literally just jund and burn. But its very very few players now that are actually playing. A few of the E tron players simply sold out of the game as well as the affinity and whirza players basically just packed away their cards and only draft now.
It really seems modern got blasted by an atomic bomb at my lgs.
What are you guys observing in your area?

Long time no see! With the new year it's time to get back to some Modern games.
Heres come the updated version of my previous list:
Creatures:

2 Geist of Saint Traft (need more testing)
4 Bonecrusher Giant (in test)

- I replaced the 2 Restoration Angels + 1 Path + 1 land with 4 Bonecrusher Giant. The idea is to test this new card as it seems great. Giving more reach. Moreover, I see a various Stoneforge Mystic / creatures decks and 4 Bonecrusher Giant and 4 Lightning Bolt might help us to keep a clear board.
- I lack maindeck counterspells against combo decks but we have to make a choice about which bad matchup to choose in the end .

When it comes to this new format it has been thriving (besides this one guy who thinks Oko, Thief of Crowns is a completely balanced magic card and stopped playing when it was banned). It's pulled a lot of players away from standard and since most of the time only one event fires at a time a lot of the modern players have resigned to playing it with the rest of the crowd. I'm in the same boat, but over the last week or two we've been pulling together more people to play both Modern and Legacy so we'll see.
I still think Modern is one of the best formats. It's just pulling people back to the format because there's tons of people who still play.
A few of the locals in my area have closed in 2019, a lot of the players went to online. I my self have tried other stores but I felt like the lonely duck. The crowd in one store is mostly young kids and teenagers. they play draft, standard, commander and now pioneer. the modern crowd in these stores are a smaller demographic last FNM it was 8-10 players and a few drop if they lose round 1. They play for prizes which makes them a bit competitive. Always top tier decks. with a make up of about 50% tron.
I have been choosing to step aside for now and I play less. My decks need upgrades to stay competitive. The 2019 year saw so many essentials added to the format that every deck has to either change to handle it or fall out of tier play ability. And that is without the bans which nullified 2 of my decks (H1, soulflayer) hurt a few others.
So in my opinion 2019 has been a bit toxic for modern in a LGS.
2019 was probably the worst year for modern in my opinion. The format has taken some huge huge blows and I dont see wotc's competence level being able to salvage it while also pushing pioneer.

I have heard a lot of that in terms or local stores going to pioneer. I think modern still has a very strong following, but it has definitely shifted to more online play. When stores are running pioneer nights instead of modern then a majority of players will sell their modern cards for pioneer cards. I think that will be a mistake in the long run. A number of players are already not happy with pioneer as it becomes more combo oriented. The large amount of bans in pioneer can also be a problem. I assume we will see a ban of Dig through time soon too which will further add frustration.
2019 was definitely a terrible year for modern players. Pioneer itself took a huge bit out of modern because WOTC took many of the modern tournaments and made them pioneer. This is to be expected because selling cards is the main idea for WOTC. I think the larger stores are having no problem filling modern tournaments, but smaller stores with players that only have budgets that can afford one or two formats will likely drop modern if more players prefer pioneer. I think modern will go the way of legacy in the past, but not to as large of an extent. A majority of the modern players will likely be the slightly older players who really love their deck and play less standard.
Cedric and Patrick said it best on stream. Patrick said that he sees more foiled out lists and strange lists in modern because people really love their modern deck and play what they like to play. I think that is the future for modern. We will still have plenty of tournaments and exposure and there will still be a large amount of modern streamers etc (cherryman, caleb, squacheif, yamakiller, dido, etc). I don't think modern will be the go to "favorite format" of a lot of players like it has been in the past, but as pioneer becomes a little more homogenized modern will see a slight increase again. Modern isn't going anywhere, but we do have to realize that Pioneer will take up some of the newer modern players and modern will likely be a 50/50 split for the favorite format with pioneer going forward. The death of modern was overstated in my opinion, but I do think that modern has become much more of a digital format than it was in the past.
It will be a very interesting year to see how modern's future plays out. It's up to local players to play the formats they like so if modern continues to not fire, it will be another tough year. The good news is that the modern prelim or challenge online had more players than the pioneer one last time so there is still a lot of interest in the modern format.
im low key hoping that another body takes control of modern and starts making its own ban list etc like that one for commander. I feel that wotc spreads itself so thin that they cant give anything the attention it deserves and end up screwing up in the end and returning to what works. Couple that with their full throttle approach to things and I feel we are certainly in for another tough year. We have seen the full throttle approach too many times. Master sets, master pieces, full arts, and now digital offerings, special edition packs, and the list goes on and on. Wotc finds or makes a treasure and then they go too da** hard and ram into the ground. Then they return to what they know and return to a popular plane to stop the bleeding.
I really really hope modern picks up, I really really hope that wotc does NOT make another modern horizons set, and i really hope they stop it with the planes walkers. I actually feel modern horizons hurt the format significantly. It would have been far better off with another classic modern masters set. Quite frankly they could have released OG modern masters again and it would have killed. WoTC is taking serious risks for an unknown reason and it seems to really be hurting.
Theres so many cards they can introduce into the format. They keep pu**y footing around the fact that counter spell needs to be in modern but instead they keep giving up dinky cancels, and ridiculous Ux planes walkers that no one asked for and the format doesnt need. In fact planewalkers are perhaps one of the reasons we may never see counter spell. I am not even gonna lie theres maybe 1 planes walker in the past year that i actually like, because i am so so tired of seeing planes walkers. Lets not even mention the ban list bc there are at least 5 cards that have no reason being on there.
I agree that modern has become a digital format and that to me seems like a problem bc its on a platform that is largely neglected by wotc as they have started to spread themselves thin in the digital realm as well. IE Arena, now a rpg and that moba which was rumored, to a new show that is also rumored. They have admitted themselves that the story sucks. I believe an article waas put out a couple days ago and the excuse was something along the lines of being spread to thin..? (i didnt read it i heard about it i should probably read it before saying anything but still..)
They need to cease all this stuff and focus back on the game and the players. But maybe we will be left in dust if the show and rpg start taking off bc history shows they put all their eggs in a basket until that basket breaks and is thrown away in the warehouse bailer.

Looks like I am not the only one who wasn't happy with what happened to Modern last year. Well, maybe I am the only one here who sold his entire collection. It's still making me sad because I like playing at FNMs and GPs and playing on MTGO is just not the same.
I am still playing Mono White though, my new favorite deck. If you're interested you can check the attached image. Since it contains a lot of cards from Modern Masters I can't really agree with ccc1522. The set was a good idea and contains a lot of good (and balanced) cards but also a few huge mistakes, so they should have playtested it more seriously! Anyways, I have beaten Tron, Naya Zoo, UW Control, Mono Red Prowess, Bant Blade, Jund and Mono Red Prison with the deck and only lost against Amulet Titan during my last eight matches with Mono White.
So I am still enjoying MtG online to some extend but it's not like it was a year ago. Maybe that's a good thing since I was pretty much 100% addicted
Now I can also enjoy other games like Divinity II and Total War: Warhammer 2.
The reason I think horizons was a mistake is that it did more harm than good. And generally speaking the good a set brings to format is easily over taken by the bad if they dont act quickly with bans and in some cases it cant be fixed via bans which is the case here. Mardu Pyromancer for example is a deck that died because of horizons and its not the only one, theres 8ball, OG bridgevine, izzet phoenix and now affinity, hardened scales, and many other mox opal decks will never see the light of day even if they were already tier 3-4, now theyre tier nothing bc they cease existing and this is due to things like hogaak, urza, oko, faithless looting ban bc of hogaak, bridgevine ban bc of hogaak, mox opal ban because of urza, oko ban because of oko. This set was like an atomic bomb struck modern. These decks may never see their former glory again. Couple this with the fact that the creation of various cards keeps other cards from ever entering the format namely force of negation will see to it that counter spell never enters modern due to things like teferi and little teferi existing. These cards just make it impossible for there to ever be an opening for counter spell to enter. I believe this was the case when they tested counterspell in standard. The existence of teferi hero of dominaria ensured that counterspell was NOT introduced in standard. And here in lies the pattern. Normal sets introduce ridiculous planes walkers while these modern specific sets introduce these ridiculous spells and round and round it will go until they ride this ship as far as it can go. But thats enough of my ranting. I just really disliked so much what happened in 2019 and I blame planeswalkers and modern horizons.

I think modern horizons was a double edged sword. There were some great cards that were much needed like Force of Negation, Force of Virtue, Magmatic Insight, Archmage's Charm, Ice-Fang Coatyl, Giver of Runes, Eldamiri's call, Plague Engineer, Pyromancer, and tons more. However, there were some big misses like Hogak, Astrolabe, and possibly Urza. Wren and Six I think has been ok so far. I really really dislike astrolabe and what it has done to the format. With that said, I do like seeing them push the envelope in terms of power level to really spice things up. The major mistake they made was simply adding too many new threats and not enough new answers at the same time. They really should have had a charm cycle in modern horizons that acted as modal removal spells that would help more midrange builds. If they had done that it would have really smoothed over the set. If they had made a line like
1WG-Sorcery- Exile target planeswalker, enchantment, or creature 1WB-Instant- Exile target non-land permanent with a converted mana cost 4 or less 1UR-Instant- Choose one- *Deal 5 damage to target creature or planeswalker, *Draw 2 cards, a card, *Destory target artifact. 1UW-Instant- Choose two- *Destroy all creatures with toughness 2 or less,*Gain 6 life,*destroy target artifact,*destroy target enchantment.
and so on . Really powerful charm spells on the level of kologhans command would be extremely good for modern midrange and tempo lists. They could be two drops as well, but would obviously have to be less powerful. They could also go with harder to cast mana costs like URR,WWU, GGB, etc. Then they could be on the very strong end which I would love to see.
I think planeswalkers are getting a bit to strong without strong answers. WOTC simply has not offered a strong answer to planswalkers yet. We need a spell or spells that can deal with them cleanly. Really answers in general are just a little to weak in the past 5 years or so when compared to the threats that keep getting better. I love bounce spells, but when every single creature enters the battlefield with a spell attached to them it becomes very hard to play and bounce spells anymore. Most of the spells that are attached to a body are the exact same cost as the spell. Why not play the creature at that point? WOTC needs to seriously think about creating decent answers to combat the threats in modern. Specifically in modern horizons 2 which will happen given the financial success that modern horizons 1 had.
Hi all! I hope all is well. I am still playing my UR prowess deck and I think modern is in a great place right now. I am working on adding white to see if the added color helps without hurting the deck too much. I will keep you all posted. I hope all is well

I've been doing great CurdBros! Haven't had much time to brew decks lately with midterms happening at school. My group managed to pull 19 people together for a sanctioned modern tourney last weekend so that was fun. I came in second with a Jeskai Breach list, but lost to Jund Shadow in the finals. Great matches and it seems we found a group of modern players waiting for a place to play. Outside of this I've been testing pioneer because of the upcoming SCG Open taking place nearby and it's going to be pioneer. I hope your Jeskai transistion goes well!

That's awesome that you found a modern group!
Great finish at the event. I wish you would have won, but second is still a fantastic finish. I bet the jeskai breach is a really awesome deck. Also great luck in the SCG event!
On another note, did you all see the possible leak of narset from Ikoria? It's not verified yet, but if it's true then she will be one we will want to try. Here is the supposed text"
1UWR
+1 - Add one U, W, R to your mana pool. Use this mana only to cast non-creature spells
-2 - Draw a card, then discard a card. Deal damage equal to the discarded cards mana cost to a creature or planeswalker
-6 - You get an emblem that states : Deal 2 damage to any target when you cast a non-creature spell"
4 Loyalty
This looks really fun, but extremely broken with underworld breach with 0 costed artifacts. If it's real, your jeskai breach deck may be the best deck in modern! What do you all think?
That card seems incredibly powerful and certainly worth testing, but unfortunately I think I may have confused you. This was the deck that I played a few weeks back. It's not the Underworld Breach combo, but the Through the Breach/Emrakul, the Aeons Torn combo. Still, I feel that the new Jeskai walker, if it indeed stays as you mentioned above, could be a contender, but there's so many strong Jeskai walkers. It either has to have insane synergy with the deck, or be busted on its own like Teferi, Time Raveler. We'll see where the she ends up though!

This deck looks awesome! Keep us posted on how it goes. I watched squacheif play against someone playing UR breach and it looked great. I bet jeskai is even better!
Looks pretty cool and exactly the type of list I like
This reminds me of the old Jeskai Geist decks that were popular back in the day, but with Stoneforge Mystic shoved in. What I really like about this list is the inclusion of The Royal Scions with cards like Spell Queller and especially Geist of Saint Traft. For a while I was thinking of running a list with Snapcaster Mage, SFM, and Geist as the creatures with Teferi, Time Raveler and The Royal Scions to complement them. I might look into this deck a little closer because Geist might be in a good spot right now. Great find!
Ive been on the fence about royal scions in this deck the primary reason is that its a fairly aggressive card but i think im just biased bc of my unreasonable disdain for planewalkers..lol..
I think this deck is sweet and the SFM + royal scions package is bada** bc it makes SFM more relevant than just a chumper or equipped attacker. Now SFM can be a more serious threat without the equipment which is great news and one thing I felt SFM was lacking. Another cool thing about the deck is the boros charm on the side. Thats a little spice I like to see.
I really want to see this deck played.

I love the Modern meta right now and I am playing on a daily basis, switching around between my 3 main decks on MTGO: Mono White (see above), Jeskai Saheeli (very seldom) and my current favorite "Jeskai Captain"!
The Captains can get Delver, Giver or Lavamancer which has been great so far. Giver has been awesome in this deck.
Instants/Sorceries consist of the usual mix of filtering, disruption and burn/removal.
The deck runs very well and I am able to beat all current Tier 1 decks with it. Yesterday I won against Mono Red Prowess, Titan and DS
There's one thing I want to ask here:
Since FoN is currently at an ridiculous 80 tix I am contemplating if should sell my copy. A Remand in it's place is almost as good in this deck, don't you think? Another consideration is to spent the 80 tix and buy 2x Brazen Borrowers (yep, I was too stupid to buy them when they were cheap). I think the Borrowers could fit in this deck very well even though I wouldn't know for sure what to cut. Please let me know your thoughts on this.
Regarding The Royal Scions, I tried them in this deck a while ago but I was somehow never satisfied with them.
I tweaked the above deck quite a bit and now I am playing this pile:
I found that Delver is too weak to compete in the current meta without some serious card advantage generating support.
Therefore I added the Ancestral Vision & Electrodominance package... and so far it works very well.
I either suspend AV turn 1 or cast it with Dominance while killing something at the same time.
The beauty of Electrodominance is that I can cast a Delver on my opponent's turn or finish him late game by shooting 5+ damage to the face.
The Ranger-Captain tool-kit provides even more card advantage and Elspeth adds some oomph!
The burn package helps to stay alive against aggressive decks while four counter spells in the SB help against unfair strategies.
Any thoughts?

1WG-Sorcery- Exile target planeswalker, enchantment, or creature
1WB-Instant- Exile target non-land permanent with a converted mana cost 4 or less
1UR-Instant- Choose one- *Deal 5 damage to target creature or planeswalker, *Draw 2 cards, a card, *Destory target artifact.

This reminds me of the old Jeskai Geist decks that were popular back in the day, but with Stoneforge Mystic shoved in. What I really like about this list is the inclusion of The Royal Scions with cards like Spell Queller and especially Geist of Saint Traft. For a while I was thinking of running a list with Snapcaster Mage, SFM, and Geist as the creatures with Teferi, Time Raveler and The Royal Scions to complement them. I might look into this deck a little closer because Geist might be in a good spot right now. Great find!

Here's the list:
3 Delver of Secrets
2 Giver of Runes
1 Grim Lavamancer
1 Dreadhorde Arcanist
3 Snapcaster Mage
1 Bonecrusher Giant
2 Ranger-Captain of Eos
2 Geist of Saint Traft
Planeswalkers (3)
1 Teferi, Time Raveler
1 Gideon of the Trials
1 Elspeth, Knight-Errant
Instants/Sorceries (21)
1 Emerge Unscathed
2 Opt
3 Serum Visions
2 Spell Pierce
1 Remand
1 Force of Negation
3 Path to Exile
4 Lightning Bolt
3 Lightning Helix
1 Abrade
2 Arid Mesa
2 Scalding Tarn
4 Flooded Strand

1 Seachrome Coast
1 Inspiring Vantage
1 Glacial Fortress
1 Celestial Purge
2 Rest in Peace
1 Stony Silence
1 Disdainful Stroke
1 Flashfreeze
1 Vendilion Clique
1 Alpine Moon
1 Anger of the Gods
1 Dovin's Veto
1 Supreme Verdict
1 Ashiok, Dream Render
1 Deflecting Palm
1 Sorcerous Spyglass
1 Wear // Tear
2x Arid Mesa
3x Celestial Colonnade
4x Flooded Strand
1x Eiganjo Castle
1x Hallowed Fountain
2x Island
1x Mountain
1x Plains
1x Sacred Foundry
2x Scalding Tarn
2x Sunbaked Canyon
2x Fiery Islet
2x Steam Vents
3x Electrolyze
4x Lightning Bolt
4x Lightning Helix
2x Boros Charm
4x Path to Exile
4x Unsubstantiate
Creature (13)
4x Geist of Saint Traft
3x Restoration Angel
4x Snapcaster Mage
2x Vendilion Clique
Planeswalker (2)
1x Chandra, Torch of Defiance
1x Elspeth, Knight-Errant
1x Archangel Avacyn
2x Blessed Alliance
2x Damping Sphere
2x Dispel
1x Engineered Explosives
1x Keranos, God of Storms
1x Dovin's Veto
1x Winds of Abandon
3x Spell Queller / Leyline of Sanctity
1x Wear
