Hello everyone, first of all i wanna say how happy i'm to find this thread, iv tried to find deck i would love to play and jeskai has it all creatures, burn and a bit of counter magic! Please don't be mad at me for writting here because i need help with building a budget version of deck. I love modern format and for years iv been watching tournaments and i have been playing allot lately on MTGA but still modern is definitely my favourite format, unfortunately i can't afford the real deal, so i'm looking for a little bit of advice from you guys, so later on i can work on upgrading it. Here is what i came up with
Creatures
4 x Delver of Secrets
4 x Monastery Swiftspear
2 x Young Pyromancer
2 x Geist of Saint Traft
3 x Mantis Rider(maybe would like to make room for it )
1 x Bedlam Reveler
Spells
1 x Faithless Looting
4 x Lightning Bolt
4 x Lightning Helix
4 x Path to Exile
3 x Serum Visions
3 x Opt
2 x Spell Pierce
2 x Negate(or Mana Leak)
3-4 x Remand
1 x Electrolyze
I love all of these cards just having trouble of putting a final version on it atm, i know allot of people don't play Mantis Rider and Bedlam Reveler i just love all of them so i'm not sure which one should stay and what to cut. I know that playing 3 color deck is kinda hard to play on budget, so i'm looking for help and any suggestions on land base and sideboard options. Once again i know allot of you probably are not interested in budget but, any advice or suggestion would be much appreciated. Thank you for your time!
Welcome to the boards! I'm glad you found us too. In this topic there are very few things you can't do in terms of your deck. We allow any budget discussions, different styles of builds, etc. We have a very inclusive and awesome group of regular posters here who are always positive and helpful. Feel free to discuss budget versions. It's always good for all of us to really look into the deck and lesser played options because it can help us build a better deck.
As for your list, I think it's great. I would love to see a couple of Force of Negation, but Spell Pierce is a great budget option that will allow you to still have early answers to super fast combo style decks.
A general rule I live by is that swiftspear is better with burn, young pyromancer is better with counter magic, and both work well with cantrips. They can both be in the same build as long as the game plan remains the same. It looks like you want an aggressive gameplan backed by disruption. There are three ways you could go:
You could go slightly more aggressive and move the young pyromancer's to the sideboard then add a copy of Echoing Truth and Abrade, or Distortion Strike to the main board. Also adding a copy of Soul-Scar Mage and cutting a couple 1 remand would be better for the aggro-control version.
Secondly you could possibly cut the swiftspears and go with a slightly more tempo/control based strategy with an additional young pyromancer and possibly 2-3 copies of Figure of Destiny which get stronger in the late game. Chandra, Pyromaster is another great budget style card that really works well with this game plan in the late game.
Lastly, you could leave the deck as it is right now and go from there. The deck honestly looks very good as it is. The game plan can get a little muddled if you draw too many counter spells aggro creatures, but that is a weakness we all can run into sometimes in this deck.
Without access to Snapcaster Mage and Vendilion Clique I think it may be better to play a slightly more aggro-control version of the deck that can really beat up on decks before they can out value in the late game. I will take a look at other options in more depth when I have some time this evening and add more to this post.
Welcome to the topic.
ccc1522- I am really interested to see how your flash list works out. Shadow of doubt can be back breaking against heavy fetch land decks too because it can stop them from fetching. I am a big fan of Peek as well. It is especially good in the more midrange versions so they can plan out their plan of attack.
@Cholenberg
I ran a list similar years ago when I first started build.
I am not a big fan of the reverler (sorry Curdbros) But love Mantis & St Traft. [c/]steel of the godhead [c] works so good with these.
You could drop a Path and add a [c/]forked bolt[c]
I like Ypyro over Swiftspear, you gain more value holding up mana during your opponents turn, where you have to cast on your turn with the Spear to be aggressive (which is why I disfavor the reveler). I like the Mantis for the same reasons 3/3 vigilance is no joke.
For Lands you could go ultra budget and use pain lands [c/] shivan reef [c] ect. Your deck may be fast enough to mitigate early life loss ( on average with the shocklands and fetchlands the life loss is close to the same early game).
Now with unearth and Wrenn and six i think jund will see a huge comeback especially after its showing at the red bull tournament. I am hoping shadow can help in that match up along with FoN as well as help in the Etron one too I also predict hogaak will still rear its ugly head.
Ill let you guys know. Idk when ill be able to get to the shop but im hoping next weekend.

The reason why iv put Mantis riders and bedlam in sideboard is couse im still not sure, maybe i should take out the giest and main Mantis and then see how it goes and have geist in sideboard, i just think its cool win con if my other creatures die that can be targeted, since i dont have Snapcaster, anyways thanks everyone for help, ofc if u have any suggestion please tell me, and also if someone could help me with list of budget manabase i would really appreciate it!
I wonder if Hexmage Vampire will see play in the future if that tread continues.
Jeskia decks prefer useful/versitile
I had not realized stifle was not modern legal. The more I think on Tale's end the more I like the card. It hits Affinity, Hardenen Scales Affinity,Hollow One, Lands,Re-Animater, several random cards that ETB. it hits most of the commonly played creatures (https://www.mtggoldfish.com/format-staples/modern/full/creatures)
Hi all. It looks like mtgsalvation is still going strong.
I haven’t really thought about tales end. It could be a useful and versatile sideboard card. I’m really interested in how the meta shapes up before the pro tour(mythic championship). I do think the new Huns list and e-Tron are very good right now. Those are both tough matchups for us and young p and mentor could be great sideboard cards. Mentor became vastly more playable with the addition of force of negation. I may give a copy a try in my sideboard.
Also tales end has good synergy with spell queller, i believe you can counter the “leaves the battlefield” clause thus countering the opponents spell all together. It also stops thalias leutenant's first etb. It also stops some dredge triggers i think. It has alot of utility.
As for mentor, I have been considering playing two in the sideboard. Do you think it would do well vs jund?
If you can chain few spells together Mentor is good vs all decks. It just dies easy as it is a known threat and it is hard to play it T3 with out protection.
I don't think that FoN offers such good protection for Mentor. You can't cast FoN without paying it's mana cost during your turn. The opponent can just Bolt the Mentor during your end step even if you have FoN in hand...
Hi, here's what I am going to play at GP Barcelona this Saturday:
Two questions:
What do you think about the 1 Surgical main?
UW Control is hard to beat. Would 1 Narset or 1 Fact or Fiction be good enough to have in the SB? What should I cut?
I like the surgical extraction main, especially in a larger event. You will see a lot of dredge, neoform, phoenix, etc so it could easily steal several game ones.
As for control there are several cards that really matter in the matchup- Geist of Saint Traft, Spell Pierce, Narset, Parter of Veils, and Teferi, Time Raveler. I basically do my best to land a Geist and/or Teferi as goal number 1. It's really important to have an aggressive start against them so you can land your later threats as they deal with the earlier stuff. Because we play a lower land we can kind of run them out of cards in the mid game. Once they start sticking planeswalkers in the mid to late game we are pretty much done for unless they are low enough to burn them out. We basically have to have them dead or near dead by turn 6ish or we will have a tough time pulling out the win. Tefer is HUGE against them. A resolved teferi is really tough for them to win through. They have answers for it, but in the mean time you are landing threats and casting uncounterable spells and they fall too far behind.
-Early threat
-land a Geist w/narset or teferi back up
-Go under them with aggression and increased spell count (lower land count in our deck)
Those are basically my strategies against UW control. I'm guessing with your deck the gideons are also an excellent tool against control. If you could get a teferi and/or narset in your board that would be great. I would say the first cuts would be v.clique, auriok champion, or lavinia.
Thanks for your thoughts. Pressuring the UW opponent early is easier with your deck then it is with mine.
Little Teferi is huge against them indeed but I have cut him completely as you can see. He somehow never did enough.
Fry could also be real good as it answers all their threats. I never tried it but it looks good on paper.

I have seen a lot of people running fry lately. It hits a ton in modern right now.
My best advice vs UW control with this style deck and my jeska tempo (which work on very similar levels) is absolutely watch out for timely reinforcements. That card will bring them back from death and will win them the game. I have experienced it several times and really pisses me off. I honestly think that thats the key card to watch out for. Other than that most other cards are managable unless they land multiple PW’s. I think dovins veto is also really strong vs them and vs us. I found that spell queller really helps vs UW as well.
Yep, my last time against UW I lost because of Timely. This reminds me that Skullcrack also could be a solid 1 of in my SB. I think I'll go with either Fry or Skullcrack, most probably Fry. You're right about Dovin's Veto too. It is strong against them AND against us. During that match I lost I had Veto in hand but I couldn't counter Supreme Verdict. When my opponent countered my Gideon with his Veto my Veto was useless too.

Theyre about .80 cents on TCG player and I feel its been overlooked for the flashier stuff in the recent sets.

For one more mana you get legendary.
Price wise I agree with you.
What would your plan of useage be? try to take out fetchlands, Tron disruption, Utility spell? Seems like more of a tempo then counter spell.
Theres one that recently 5-0d a league and it has both ugins and both karns.
Not to mention UW has lots of PW’s which make it hard for our style deck
But mainly I say that bc its very cheap rn and could be useful
