That's super helpful WickedApp. It's always super beneficial to hear the matchup from the other side. I haven't gotten to play against the Vengevine version yet, but I feel like I would struggle more against it than the BR version. BR Hollow one does a have one thing that is tough to come by, it can play aggro in game one and then can switch to a more grindy game in game two rather easily. That's tough to sideboard against.
since I have been playing Hollowone I find that many opponents sideboard in against it incorrectly. This is due to it being a New Deck, and that it doesnt care what you opponent is doing because of the low mana and the discard triggers. As you know you can pick and choose the best cards to keep with faithless looting which helps with bad hands. I have won with the deck holding a 1 lander and mulligan down to 4 cards, this is because of the random draw/discard engine.
Hi,
I just want to send a quick hello from Japan. Still on vacation, that's why I haven't posted anything last week.
I brought my deck and played at Hareruya tournament center on Wednesday though. Two mini tournaments, 3 rounds each.
Went 2-1 both times.
It was interesting to see the different meta game here. I played against 5 Japanese players and 1 player from Czech republic. I faced two Temur midrange decks with Goyfs and Huntmasters and won both times. I also won against KCI and Naya Burn, but I lost against Bogles and against a very cool Mono blue tempo deck.

That's awesome. Enjoy the vacation! I would love to go to Japan sometime. I always looking at the results of Japanese and other Asian region tournaments. They seem to play much more fringe style decks and decks they have personally built. Most of the Jeskai Delver results are from Japanese tournaments. Those naya decks can be tough so I'm glad to hear you won twice. Boggles is basically a sideboard and hope matchup. I have beaten boggles badly and have lost to them badly. I'm glad you found time to play on your vacation. That's awesome. Good to hear form you and enjoy the rest of your vacation.
Very clean list GofyTomcat. It plays a little bit more towards the midrange side, but there is nothing wrong with that. It looks great. I LOVE Unsubstantiate in a tempo oriented deck. Unsubstantiate is so versatile being able to "time walk" one spell or/bounce a creature. It's also especially good in a deck with a lot of ETB triggers like V.Clique, Snapcaster, Bedlam Revler, etc because it can be used to gain a little card advantage. 4 copies may be a bit steep and I personally would run a split of 2 Remand and 2 Unsubstantiate, but that doesn't make much of a difference. When you side in the spell quellers they basically can't resolve anything :). The sideboard is really cool because you can side into a almost pure control/midrange deck or side into more tempo depending on matchup. You can basically just trade in spell quellers for resto angels and lower the curve and become a more tempo oriented list. I'm glad to see your signature Chandra and Elspeth. It wouldn't be a GoyfTomcat list without them.
I can't see anything I would change after my first look. I really like the set up of the deck. There are early threats which are necessary and the remainder of the deck is basically all instant speed to maintain the threats, add more threats, and remove any road bumps. I assume this deck plays out very smoothly. RIP is the single best option for us against graveyard based decks. Unfortunately, with Bedlam Reveler I can't run it. Surgical Extraction has been very good lately with all of the KCI running around though.
I wouldn't change a thing in this deck. It looks great. Good to hear from you Mazeron.
I totally understand wanting to foil out your deck. I had the same inclination and finally finished foiling it out. I actually play with my non-foil deck most of the time and break out the foil list every so often. We are planning on a second child so the foil list may need to be sold soon :). Everyone that sits across a player that has a foiled out deck automatically feels like "oh this person knows what they are doing with their deck". I would love to see those delvers. They sound sweet.
I have one copy of Stony Silence because I had one sideboard slot left and it is super effective in a lot of matchups. It more for lantern and a little for KCI even though it's not that effective. We already have a good Tron and Affinity matchup so I don't really see a need for me to run too many copies of it. It's still a GREAT sideboard card so I did put a copy in my last slot. It's a card I would like to draw in certain matchups, but don't need to draw.
Geist is at his best against the grindy UW control decks. My entire goal against them is to burn them out or just resolve a Geist and protect it. He can be a hindrance in other matchups, but he is soooo valuable some times. He can be hit or miss. I still can't imagine my list without him, but again we have different lists in terms of gameplay.
After Jeff Hoogland's recent finish, I think URx delver lists will start to see some play. I think a lot of players forgot just how good delver, lightning bolt, and snapcaster mage can be. Especially if you are playing 8 copies of lightning bolt. I prefer 3 copies of lightning helix, but that's a personal choice :). Some of his games showed just how good Grim Lavamancer can be. It seemed so good that I'm even running a copy in my sideboard even with Bedlam Reveler. I side one Reveler out if I side lavamancer in.
One trap I think some delver players fall into in modern is trying to play too much of a tempo based deck. That's not to say tempo is not possible in modern, however, tempo is very tough maintain in modern with all of the value running around. In legacy you have force and daze to maintain, but we just don't have those options in modern. I think aggro-control is a much better fit for a modern delver list personally. What do you all think?
I'm still playing the same list so I won't re-post it, but what is everyone else trying? I know Wizards will be a popular new choice so hopefully delver gets a bit of an uptick soon.
In my experience tempo can work but runs low on gas fast. If you get a good hand a flipped delver is just too much to handle. As long as you can keep your opponent from reasonable responding.
Control has more tools that work. They have a solid plan B and C.
Which is why I think Mardu Pyro is pretty good right now. Instead of countering they are hand disrupting. A kind of Pre-Tempo deck.
I've been playing Jeskai Geist still. Haven't been to modern since December, been trying to play on Xmage when I can. So I can't offer too much in terms of Delver/tempo stuff lol
I am seeing Field of Ruin do some serious work for people when I watch Twitch streams so I'm definitely going to have 1 or 2 mainboard.
I noticed the Monastery Mentor is missing from many lists, I think people are working on the wizard theme.
I have been off the list awhile myself, but still see other trying it at my local. Control just beats them.
Personally I have canabilized my land base for most of my decks, for a legacy deck (delver tempo style). Wish me luck over the weekend, even if Im playing a non-jeskia base.
Best of Luck WickedApp!!! We will all be rooting for you here. No matter what deck you are playing we could love to see you do well.
RutherJC19- I totally agree. I always want to add a copy of mentor to my sideboard but never pull the trigger. He is great in grindy matchups. The main problem is that he is a 3 drop creature that can be killed by everything AND needs other cards (spells) to be good. It's a very hard card to play unless you have full control of the game. I have been surprised that UW control doesn't play a copy or two in their deck. It gives their late counter magic spells some offense and gives them a win con.
I have a mentor list that I run for fun sometimes, but it's not near as competitive as the delver list. Likely because I haven't spent much time on it. The banning of Gitaxian Probe really hurt Mentor. I do think Mutagenic Growth is really good with mentor because it solves the 2/2 problem and gives him a token, however, it's really tough for growth to fit into the style of deck where mentor shines. In a jeskai prowess archetype Mentor would likely have to be the top end of a very aggressive spell based deck.
There was a mentor list that 5-0'd last week. It was more of a control style deck, but it's really cool. I'm sure the list is on here somewhere.
Sorry for not having posted in a while. I am groggy all the time.
After the unbearable heat in Japan I am now sitting here in Germany with 33°C at 9 pm -_-
With these crazy temperatures it's really hard to work all day and then gather enough energy to play MTGO at night.
Anyhow, I enjoyed watching Hoogland win with his U/R Wizards deck against Humans and Jund. I am not a big fan of him but these videos were impressive
I love the fact that he proved so many people wrong who say that you can't play Delver in a deck with only 22 enablers!
I attached the deck that I am playing atm. It's a blast to play and I win a lot (as I said above I haven't played a lot last week but I think I played 10 whole matched of which I won 7 or 8). Geist and Thundermaw make a wonderful team.
Compared to what I played before I basically added Fumarole as land no. 22, switched 2 Gideons out for two Sarkhans and made room for 2 Thundermaws.
I like that this version is much less vulnerable to Blood Moon than the Gideon version. The two Boros Charms are flex slots. Not really sure what to run there but it should be CMC2 or CMC1. Any suggestions on how to fine-tune this build?

I like the deck a lot. Sarkhan's first ability saves him in my opinion. It's playable without a thundermaw. Keep us posted on how this combo works out for you. It's really awesome.
Those is some major temperature changes. I prefer the cold to the heat personally. I also agree about Hoogland. I'm not a big fan of him or his stream, but I can watch him when he is playing delver. Todd Anderson has been playing his deck this week in the vs series and hasn't been doing great. I still think they need to find jeskai and then they will be set.
When playing with a new strange list, try the following:
On any turn, a few times in a round after untap your cards, said to your oponent ¨... im at my upkeep step¨
Then look at your hand, check up the board, check your life points notes, if required check both graveyards and/or point your finger like you were counting damage.
Wait a few seconds and look as you were thinking a play... all of this in your upkeep step...
Then say.... hmmm nop nop... Ill draw...

1_Vexing Devil its not so bad as everyone thinks, it is not a win condition but this deck have not 1 win card.
2_Bedlam Reveler its an amazing late game option, will not save from a full tron board set up.
3_ The mana base works fine however I feel like it can be better, will continue testing.
4_ I feel like Pyroclasm on main board could be usefull, neet to test that.
Conclusion:
This deck needs to work his victory since the beginning of the match, there is no 1 drop or top deck which could get you the win.

Very cool list! I am interested to see how Kari Zev works. She is like a mini Giest of Saint Traft :). I too am a fan of Bedlam Reveler. He is just awesome whenever he resolves. People often for get a 3/4 prowess body is also a beating. I have never understood why Vexing Devil gets a bad reputation. I realize people say "good players will always pick the better option for them", but when both options are not good it doesn't matter if they pick the best option. Vexing Devil is seeing play in the new Vengevine Aggro decks so maybe people are catching on.
@GofyTomcat1:
Love your list. That's exactly how my list would look like without Delvers, except that I'd run 24 lands in your deck and not 22
I like Steel and I like that you're still using Spell Pierce even though the deck is more midrange-ish.
@Duo2020:
The deck looks very good as a budget option (budget since there are no Snappys). I can't even come up with cards to recommend
I don't like Stormchaser and would probably run 4 Swiftspears instead but that's just a personal preference.
If you want to try something spicy I'd recommend Saheeli Rai who can copy your Devils, Riders and Revelers. Since you have a lot of cheap stuff to fill your graveyard you could also try out Jötun Grunt and Grim Lavamancer.
In the meantime I bought 2 Sarkhans and 2 Thundermaws to play the deck which I am currently running online also at FNM.
I am still not sure which version is better but I am having a lot of fun with both
I agree with Stevomat about Stormchaser Mage vs Monastery Swiftspear. I was super excited to see a two drop flyer with prowess, but in play he just never cut it. It always seemed like I would have rather played a swiftspear and held up spell pierce, opt, path, etc. The two drop slot in our deck is just really hard to fill. Mainly because if you are a tempo or aggro-control build you want a very early threat and then back it up with counter magic, removal, etc. Taking the second turn to play a creature that can be easily killed is tough. I do think Stormchaster works well in the decks that utilize Mutagenic Growth though. Stormchaser Mage is definitely still a very playable card, I have just prefered swiftspear in my personal deck.
I can second Saheeli Rai as well. I ran a copy of Saheeli for a long time. When she makes a copy of Bedlam Revler, Snapcaster Mage, Insectile Aberation it's a huge beating. Also her +1 ability is really underated. The damage and card filtering is exactly what we are looking for in the mid/late game.
StevomatUWR- I'm glad to see you are still enjoying the deck and having fun with the new build. We have to remember that to most of us magic is still a game for fun. If we stop having fun there is no reason to keep playing. Sometimes it's hard to remember that this is supposed to be leisure :).
I am new to this thread and it seems it the most active Jeskai Thread i could find.
Currently im playing Jeskai Aggro/Tempo. Play tested it in 2 tournaments one tournament went 3-0, the second one went 1-2.
The second tournament i just played so badly against GW Value Town and just straight up lost to affinity since i didn't have any sb for their etched champion. So i updated my sideboard list. But not sure if this list fits right here, but here is the list. Looking forward to your suggestions and areas to improve the deck.
That is so difficult. I think I'd at least cut the Negate and add one utility land, most likely Moorland Haunt or Shinka or Field of Ruin. If you find another card to cut then I'd add two of these lands.
