Yeah, testing has not been conclusive on polymorphist's jest. Holding up 3 mana is not something this deck is interested in doing.
On the other hand i switched back to vedalken certarch as my blue one drop of choice (instead of judge's familiar) and they exceeded my expectations. Achieving metalcraft isn't very hard and once they're online they can just win me the game. There are a lot less lightning bolt now that splinter twin is gone, so they stick around in a lot of matchups and they are pretty good in any situation.
So my latest addition is mortarpod as my sac outlet of choice. Saccing walkers and shackled creatures is good, and it can hit a lot of the small creatures in my meta, like from infect, affinity, soul sisters, even eldrazi mimics and all the 1 toughness flyers.
It also works well when chain convoking with chief engineer since you can convoke with the pest token. I think having access to artifact removal for small stuff is good, and sometimes when the white decks side in stony silence you can still hit something with the pest since the equipment gives the activated ability to the pest. Not being able to equip after is a bummer but at least you didn't spend 4 mana on something like trading post...
Yeah, so all my decks but this one suck vs eldrazi... so i'm stuck playing this deck until more bannings, lol. Not a bad thing, i have lots of fun with it... but getting a myr superion asap and killing before the drowner of hope happens is the name of the game right now.
I also found vedalken shackles to be surprisingly effective. We can gain lots of time, superion and lodestone golem trade with all their deck, and if you hit 4-5 islands, shackles gets the job done. I really love phyrexian metamorph, always glad to see this one. More superion, more golems, always welcome.
Not saying the matchup is easy though, i'd say about 50/50. Whoever gets the nut draw is favored. I haven't faced the u/w deck with eldrazi displacer or the g/x world breaker versions yet... hopefully my meta doesn't catch on...

Cool match. Any reason you kept your treasure mage in hand so long? Your opponent already saw your hand and if they have TKS they just take your mage, right?
I haven't been paired up vs eldrazi at all lately. This is unfortunate, i really wanted to see how this deck played vs the updated eldrazi decks...
There is a lot of splash hate i take from affinity being everywhere now. At least i'm seeing way less kolaghan's command these days.
I also have been swapping judge's familiar and vedalken certarch. I'm not sure yet which i prefer. Obviously i tend to wish i had certarch when i have familiar and vice versa. Familiar is more consistent, not needing metalcraft, and can attack and still do its thing. It is surprising how good a flying men is vs affinity. Certarch is generally more powerful but usually doesn't come online before turn 3. They did get me a few game wins that i should have lost... testing has not been conclusive yet...

Didn't see any need to especially since I'd rather him take the Treasure Msge with another Seer rather than the Wurmcoil I wanted to tutor up. Also, I realized I was on my way to six mana, so I could just Vial-in the Mage, then cast the Wurmcoil on the same turn.

Maybe run a combination of both, 2/2 split. Like you said, flying on the Judge's Familiar is invaluable, they basically won me that game. It's pseudo Daze ability comes up often esp when paired with Lodestone Golem and Tectonic Edge.
Vedalken Certarch is cool, but like I mentioned awhile back, I'd want to run 4x Darksteel Citadel; he also conflicts with Grand Architect and Chief Engineer when deciding to tap him for "mana". Wish he himself was an artifact, which would make metalcraft easier to achieve.
Sidenote: Endbringer is the type of card I was hoping WOTC would print as an artifact when they introduced C mana. Maybe the Investigate mechanic (Expose Evil) from SOI will bring about something that boosts the tier potential of this deck. Or maybe a Sword of the Meek unban .
I really love it so far. Basilisk collar in particular does some serious job vs both aggro AND midrange. You can combine it with mortarpod (or longbow) to shoot stuff.
Also i like to bring trinket mage vs midrange, as a card advantage engine. They can search for hangarback walker and since trinket mage is blue you can cast stuff right away with a grand architect out.
Well, we don't play any instants of sorceries, so... no? lol. I like the card though, vial for spells is sweet.
Also i've tried a trinket mage sideboard that looks like this...
Yea, I initially saw it as a way for us to play cards like Serum Visions without having to pay the tax from Golem, but the way its worded I still think you have to...
Trinket Mage package looks sweet, I don't think I'll ever stop using it, unless they stable Fabricate onto a 3cmc or less grizzly bear lol.

Yeah you'd still have to pay the extra cost... Even in dedicated spell decks i don't think it is worth paying two mana, then another extra mana each turn. You'd have to activate it 3 times to get an actual discount on mana. The other thing is most spell decks have spell with the same cost. Since the bottle forces you to put a counter, unlike vial, you have to curve out your spells with cc 1-2-3-etc and then pay another 3 mana to remove the counters. Seems waaay to durdly and conditional...
Trinket mage is sweet indeed. I was able to beat jund with it by searching out basilisk collar (and my opponent didn't have abrupt decay for it). Can't remember the last time i beat jund, lol (the addition of hangarback walker also helps a lot).
Collar is awesome, turns all your dudes into mini wurmcoil engines. You can attack profitably and move the collar to a blocker. I really want to try it vs eldrazi. We should have enough roadblockers for it to be good.
My question is this. Is it more beneficial to Stay low on the cmc curve like this or should I go the route of lodestones, forgemasters, wurmcoils, platinum angel, blightsteel with some boots?
I have been messing around with this deck and would like some advice on my list....
Welcome, first what card did you mean for "Charging Station" (Blasting Station maybe)? Next, I don't think Chalice is needed, we rely on spamming the board and using the synergy of our creatures to play dangerous threats. We also don't have much card advantage, so drawing chalices is almost card disadvantage.
I would take out the Chalices and replace them with 4x 1-drop blue creature or Æther Vial. Otherwise what are you doing turn 1? It also helps in getting turn two/three Myr Superion.
My question is this. Is it more beneficial to Stay low on the cmc curve like this or should I go the route of lodestones, forgemasters, wurmcoils, platinum angel, blightsteel with some boots?

Seems like you are going for a sac theme, fetching Hangarbacks and finding ways to sac and profit with Mortarpod and Blasting Station. Definitely a cool idea; if that's what you are trying to do, I'd recommend 2-3x Vedalken Shackles over the Master of Etherium. Shackles gives you some form of interaction with your opponent and as Ace1 mentioned, you can sac thier creatures using Motarpod or even in your cast Blasting Station.
So I'd keep the curve low and just add in Shackles and a 1-drop blue creature. If you wanted to go alittle higher in cmc, Solemn Simulacrum is a great value creature.
My bad, charging station is actually energy chamber. I like the thought of Drowned Rusalka. As for the dropping of masters, I will have to test that out. The buff to the thopter tokens is very handy.
You guys think there's any synergy behind Sea Gate Wreckage and Mindless Automaton that we could exploit?
Tested it by replacing 3x Lodestone with Automaton but found I missed the tax effect of Golem.
Still seems like something to try out.
Seems ok, but i'm worried about us having enough C sources. I think 20-ish lands is ok and i don't see a way for us to run enough C lands AND U lands for architect's double U on turn 3. The only way out is to run some painlands but i'm not sure the damage is worth it just for sea gate wreckage, which we might not even draw (since we can't play that many...).
If wizards prints good artifacts with C in their cost then maybe yes but for now i'd say no...
I respect my Big Cats, Ace1 and StreetMage, but I am drawn to some of the mechanics in ShadowGripper's Deck. Any further evolutions?
The use of Renowned Weaponsmith seems unique to your build. I enjoy it's sol ring capabilities. I also applaud the use of ensnaring bridge - particularly Game 1. Sure, it's a hedged bet, and I do it a lot in my builds as well. It allows for us to avoid running dedicated creature kill, and just go for the bridge instead.
Snapback is a little too narrow for my tastes. I've tried it in vehicles like day's undoing decks.
What about Master Transmuter? You are a little light on creature count, and she dies easily. But, she is also an artifact herself. You can do tricks of picking up and dropping Ensnaring Bridge or cheating in a big Wurmcoil Engine. Hmmm...what else...What about dropping the judge's familiar for spellskite? Is judge just there to fill in the 1-cmc slot? Well, if you drop them for skite - Then, you're more protected, and you can try going for even something like Platinum Angel as further insurance to hang in for the win.
I wouldn't really diversify the win conditions, i.e. Blightsteel Colossus insta-smash. I think the swelling blue wave with cresting tips of Batter-Wurm - Myr Superion - Lodestone Golem Smashes. As I look at the engine of Grand Architect, I am enticed by the traditional design being discussed.....and, then I like the idea of the Mindslaver lock. Are these approaches more or less mutually exclusive??
I have to find some time to put some runs on the track with what you guys are doing. But, from afar? Shiny. I haven't seen many decklists posted in the most recent pages. Are you guys basically hunkering down through the Eldrazi Winter, and then coming up for air post-ban? Or, are you actively building against the menace instead?
Are you guys basically hunkering down through the Eldrazi Winter, and then coming up for air post-ban? Or, are you actively building against the menace instead?
First, welcome to this thread!
I'm actually trying to make this work vs eldrazi, but honestly not much needs adapting in the main. Myr superion is bigger than everything they play and lodestone golem trades with everything they have. Vedalken shackles becomes really good late game. The problem cards are drowner of hope and world breaker. Against the latest i pretty much gave up. I haven't played a ton vs eldrazi, at my LGS they are still on the mono-colorless version and the red blue version from the pro tour. I can understand not wanting to buy into 15$ adarkar wastes for a deck that will be banned shortly
The main tweaks i've made are to fight affinity. The matchup is difficult (always has been). This is why i've added mortarpods, shoots down most of their stuff and saccing huge hangarback walkers to put a load of thopters in the sky is pretty much how i can beat this deck. Saccing stolen creatures with shackles is a great way to break stalled boards. Vedalken shackles is always great but beware of insta-equip cranial plating and spellskites.
This setup also happens to work well vs infect, elves, soul sisters, and every deck that go wide, which are everywhere in my meta.
@Raystack, as Ace1 said Eldrazi is a pretty easy match up, I'm like 3/1 against them.
But Affinty is a pain, I'm going up to another Hurkyl's Recall in the sideboard and have been contemplating Whirler Rogue for the fliers.
Whirler Rogue is woefully underutilized, and usually considered in R/U constructions which means that Pia and Kiran Nalaar usually wins out for the better pick. But, Rogue can guarantee phat hits when facing Abzan (damn lingering souls tokens and many walls).
I was looking at other large artifacts that might work....Contagion Engine can shut down Affinity as well, but not their nexi lands, and it only stops a single wave on the board. Too bad you don't have cards that call for a lot of counters or that could really crank hard on planeswalker (Tezzeret, the Seeker or the like). Admittedly, I haven't played this archetype, and I'm sure that is painfully clear. Yet, I'm not sure what the quintessential decklist is, such that I can get my hands dirty. Are you guys aggro? Is it control/combo. There haven't been a lot of recent decklists. I like the idea of superion/golem. I don't like the idea of thorn of amethyst and the card that makes all spells a minimum cost of 3. Just curious about the ability to 'smooth ramp' into a kill or a lock.....
I'm basically hunkering down for the Eldrazi Winter, but pleased to hear that you have a game against them. Maybe it's me, but I somehow want to see you run at least 1 Platinum Angel and perhaps a Fabricate to help locate her. With all that mana production, it's criminal that it can't be used for an overloaded Cyclonic Rift....but, a kicked Into the Roil is easy and holds good card advantage. I've been seeing bounce work wonders lately in different archetypes.
So i was just messing around with this deck in my head and i was thinking about giving up interaction for more big dumb robots, with master of etherium and ensoul artifact:
With 30 artifacts + 4 blinkmoth nexuses, master + ensoul can grant more consistent beaters, and we can rival eldrazi in size. Not sure giving up interaction entirely is worth in, but i'm just brainstorming...
Thoughts?

You ever thought of running Phyrexian Revoker naming guys like Drowner of Hope and Eldrazi Displacer? Also, I can imagine Basilisk Collar turns all our creatures into mini Wurmcoil Engine, which is also good against the big alien menace.

This is my current list:
4 Hangarback Walker
4 Signal Pest
4 Vedalken Certarch
2 Spellskite
4 Myr Superion
4 Etherium Sculptor
4 Chief Engineer
4 Lodestone Golem
2 Phyrexian Metamorph
artifacts: 4
2 Mortarpod
2 Vedalken Shackles
lands: 20
4 Blinkmoth Nexus
16 Snow-Covered Islands
4 Thorn Of Amethyst
4 Relic Of Progenitus
2 Pithing Needle
2 Quicksilver Fountain
2 Ratchet Bomb
1 Torpor Orb
I haven't tested mortarpod yet, those used to be batterskull. Phyrexian revoker is nice but i prefer pithing needle, it doesn't die to all the main deck removal. I also like torpor orb vs the drowner of hope, thought-knot seer, eldrazi skyspawner and eldrazi mimic.
