So many 3 drops. You'll have some very clogged hands.
I think the interactions between Gravecrawler, Rotting Rats and Blood Scrivener is fun. A lot of stuff like Geralf's Messenger, while strong, can be clunky.
Here's some cards I recommend: Zombie Infestation
Great discard outlet to work with Blood Scrivener.
You don't call "dying to removal" if the removal is more expensive in resources than the creature. If you have to spend BG (Abrupt Decay), or W + basic land (PtE) to remove a 1G, that is not "dying to removal". Strictly speaking Goyf dies to removal, but actually your removal is dying to Goyf.
Honestly I would not like to face this deck. Just like Merfolk...but they come back! And they use discard! Honestly, scary deck. Maybe try an Æther Vial, seems to work with Merfolk if you running the same CMC creatures, seems it could do well for you too. It would help with all those 3 drops and leave open mana too spare.

I have been tinkering with this for awhile now and think I have settled on the majority of what I want this deck to do.
For awhile now I hav been trying to figure out what to use for a finisher and was trying to stay tribal too much and decided that Phyrexian Obliterator was just too good for this deck in many ways. It is a great finisher and the BBBB is huge with Gray Merchant of Asphodel and can be a game ending combo. Plus curving perfectly into Gary is a 12 point drain. I had been running a pair of Cavern of Souls but removed them when I went into the Obliterator as it was too much colorless mana and didn't want to have to choose between Zombie or Horror. By going into R I get 2 of the best creature removal spells modern has to offer and allows me to run main deck Pod hate in Pillar of Flame. Some sideboard options are still up for debate and am not sure if I want Zombie Infestation or Shattering Spree.
What I got for winning a modern tourney at work Deck was pre-constructed before being awarded however it also included other cards. Not sure what to make of it since this is the first time I'm using Zombies. Any suggestions on what to include and remove based on the current deck and included cards?

Dash Hopes is a really bad card. It will never do what you want it to do.
I would like to argue that Dash Hopes IS a good card. If you read the flavor text you'd know that it's not for countering spells, it's to bait your opponents into letting you sap their life. A few times it's actually won me games or at least gotten me close to winning.
A card out of the zombie theme like Mogis's Marauder could give the board evasion. I faced and played a few zombie decks so far, and evasion was an issue. Dredgevine has the same problem.
A way better card that would fit the theme and give reach is Gray Merchant of Asphodel. To me it's your best chance to win against Ensnaring Bridge / Ghostly Prison (that monoblack versions have no answer to) and get through a board full of creatures on both sides. It's a way to swing close games that tend to resolve on the right top deck (Burn, Affi, Zoo). Very comparable to Shaman of the Pack in Elves.
I encountered a Blasting Station deck yesterday, I found the synergy to be cute, a little less impressive than Ghirapur Aether Grid but not too bad. It's a nice mana sink with Gravecrawler ( = 1 damage). With Relentless Dead and open mana, it makes your opponents' spot removals very bad, because you can let them kill a zombie, then sac RD with Station, rebuy it for and pay the mana to reanimate the destroyed zombie. Prized Amalgam will come back end of turn for an extra damage if the previous synergies occured.
All in all, a fair aggro zombie deck is certainly a bad deck. With the things written above, and Geralf's Messenger, there's a potential for the deck ot do its own thing, and that involves a sac outlet, possibly in 4 copies. You want to proactively sac the guys quoted above. Taking that direction, only one lord would be auto-in : Diregraf Captain.

Some random thoughts, some related to SOI, some not, presented in no particular order:
Everyone is rightly excited about Relentless Dead, but the death-touch Rancid Rats seem quite nice as a accompanying piece. Even Shambling Goblin might shine in some match-ups with Relentless in play.
Madness sadly doesn't seem workable for Zombies, but Murderous Compulsion just might be a card for Vampires.
Blasting Station is particularly cute with a free-means of recursion; unfortunately, I think I'm correct in surmising that there are no Zombies with persist and probably no zombified Melira or Anafenza. Bloodghast comes to mind when thinking about the station but how many Vampires can one include before the neighborhood goes to Transylvania?
Does anyone feel any love for Smallpox? Pox would make me want to at least splash white since there's nothing like Flagstones of Trokair to go with a case of the Pox. W offers some other things too; perhaps that lovely Anguished Unmaking just delivered. Denial strategies also often include Liliana of the Veil and after all, this isn't the Budget forum, is it? Lili does enable madness but I still don't think Zombies could quite pull a madness theme off.
Apologies for my lamentable ignorance if any of this is crap; I'm not up-to-speed yet on modern zombies although I am somewhat familiar with the Innistrad-block cards.
The curve looks fat to me. It seems like too many Rexes and Gary's and not enough discard. Three Kommand's is probably at least one too many main-deck.
I almost think a guy could afford to run one copy of Foreboding Ruins in a deck like this. Maybe I'm crazy.
I'm not positive whether Diregraf Captain or Death Baron is better in this list, but for now I've been playing with Captain. On the one hand deathtouch for the team is great but on the other pinging the opponent every time a zombie goes down adds up quickly. Smallpox is my stand in until they (hopefully) reprint innocent blood in eldritch moon. I've actually been loving compelling deterrence. With so many recursive zombies you always trigger the discard clause and Between Lili and rats keeping the opponent's hand empty the card basically reads "1U: Put target nonland permanent into it's owner's graveyard" Merchant is there to recover in the late game and I could see moving up to 2 copies although I don't know what I'd take out.

I feel for zombies relying on the gy is what you should be doing. Gy recursion synergies are what are unique to the zombie tribe and since all their lords cost 3 or more and we lack the cheap token makers that goblins, soldiers, and spirits have I think it is what you should try to build around. Otherwise we are just making a tribal aggro deck that is less efficient than merfolk, goblins, and eldrazi. GY hate is certainly a vulnerability of the deck but I think, much like living end, it's just something we have to play through. We can bring in turn 1 discard and/or counters out of the sb and hope that between those and our other discard oulets we keep the hate off the table. And if we can't keep it off we try to transition into an aggro deck.

You misunderstand me. Use the GY for cards such as gravecrawler, bloodghast, Prized Amalgam, and Relentless Dead. But don't rely solely on recursion from it. The second certain cards go in it, and they remove them you have a huge tempo loss like you just got board wiped. Dumb down on cards like thought scour, and use cards like sign in blood. Don't rely on putting creatures in the yard and attempting to recur them, there is already dredgevine for cards like that and that deck is faster than we are

It used to be mono black, but I added green for Collected Company (and since then, also some Abrupt Decays)
The deck was good before, but ran out of steam in the later game. CoCo helps a lot with this. It also used to play Blood Scrivener, but Relentless Dead is a much better 2 drop to fill the spot now.
I also had a list before that contained Smallpox and Lilliana of the Veil. It was a slower deck that way, but it had its benefits too sometimes. I'd appreciate any comments and suggestions you have on that deck for sure, especially if other people are able to playtest it a bit vs a variety of opponents.
Been toying with zombies for a little bit, this is what I am currently running.
It's been pretty good so far but I can't say I've had too many opponents playing higher tiered decks. Mostly just been testing on MTGO / Just for Fun.
A friend of mine suggested play testing Traverse the Ulvenwald, which I've been doing. I like the card, butso far it's been rather difficult to turn on Delirium and otherwise the card just fetches me a land in hand. Grabbing a land has come in use twice. Not a whole lot really. What are you guys' thoughts on this card and my current build? I do really enjoy playing it a lot. Pack Rat was recently tossed in as a test as well. I don't have any input on this card yet as I've only played maybe 3 or 4 games with it added.
@retoid: Delirium would be easier for you if you ran more fetches. There are also some other, Delirium enhancers that one might consider.
The new Dead Weight is not an entirely stupid idea, but it's really good (decent?) in only a few match-ups. Executioner's Capsule is a possibility. It's a hoot with Glissa, the Traitor. I'm sure there are probably other artifacts or enchantments to consider. Plainswalkers might be worth a thought; Liliana of the Veil seems to work pretty well with B mana.
Okay, the only really solid idea here is the more fetches thing. You should get the other three card types pretty easily, but without eight or so fetches, you'll struggle to get Delirium on-line.
Obviously, Verdant Catacombs is what you want, but other Swamp/Forest fetches can be used.
@pzbw7z Thanks! I will add a few more fetches and test that out.
I recently tossed in another Quest for the Gravelord and dropped the Traverses down to two copies.
I also tossed in a single copy of Bad Moon to help with delirium and have been thinking about Sinister Concoction, but I think it's a bit slow.
If after these tests Traverse still isn't working out, I will probably swap them out for a couple copies of Dark Petition as a tutor for a finisher.
Another thing I've been play testing is with different finishers. So far I've tested with Phyrexian Obliterator and Helldozer. The latter card being super funny.
