You can't just build a deck with 60 lands and man-lands and expect to win. That would be broken if it were even possible. You need some sort of interaction with lands that enhances them. And the most efficient one (ranging from cost to power) happens to be KotR.
You can pair EE and Bridge with just man-lands and spells. That's not anything new, and it's extremely expensive. You're not maximizing lands, you're maximizing EE and Bridge.
A turn 2 harrow that pops out a 2/2 zombie doesn't seem all that bad to me. Or maybe a 2/2 and a 3/3 with Beast Within. Suffice to say it will recover quick from board wipes.
"maze of ith" esque effect spoiled on an artifact in ixalan. I think it´s fairly playable actually thaumatic compass. Powering out lands with explore like effects could make this a pretty strong card. It´s not that expensive actually, can tutor basics which of course is nice, and the transform has no cost.
also dunes of the dead COULD be a interesting card to play if there were a way to sac it and rerturn it to play somehow.

Trying to bring this topic back from the grave. With the new card, Blast Zone, I tried my hand at brewing a new list. I think there is a lot of potential here.

1) bridge should be in your deck
2) you can never blow up the bz at 3
3) if blast zone gets pithing needled, you're screwed
4) ramunap ruins is really slow and expensive to use. who not use thees blue one instead? you're using bog anyways.
5) what's thespian stage for? copy blast zone for zero counters?
i would love to play a lands deck in modern. but it's missing too many of the utility lands that makes it good. you could look into a lick deck around ghost quarter and playing trinispheres.
1. With the current decklist, I don’t see myself having an empty enough hand for bridge.
2. I am not planning on having too much mana to use with blast zone so I won’t be blowing it up at 3 unless that is the only line. I’m planning on Firespout to deal with 3 mana threats.
3. I agree, I’m weak to pithing needle. I will bring naturalize in almost every game 2, similar to dredge with nature’s claim because cards like RIP and Pithing Needle are obvious hate.
4. I was trying to stay off of blue if possible but Tolaria West is a great card that blue opens up as well. I’m fairly confident that I need green in this deck, and I don’t think that I have the color support for 3 different colors so I settled on Gr mostly for the Firespout sweeping ability. I might be better off in Gu.
5. Thespian Stage is intended to be a utility land that copies whatever I need at that time. I think 4 of is aggressive after some testing and I might cut it all together.

I just wanted to try and revive this thread by asking about the use of recent cards. What are your opinions on Hostile desert, ramunap excavator, grasping dunes, ifnir deadlands, hashep oasis and the new cycling lands (e.g desert of the indomitable and sheltered thicket)?

dude your comment about modern lands was outright insightful, can u help me in the Ramunap Green thread? It's a simpler deck with no Loam
also dunes of the dead COULD be a interesting card to play if there were a way to sac it and rerturn it to play somehow.
