I know this deck as been attempted a few times as a port of the legacy deck, but I've combined it with an additional combo and some different pieces.
I think there has to be an absolute place for trinisphere, though I expect to swap it out for blood moon depending on the matchup.
I think the numbers could be tweaked and I'm unsure of what creature/+number of artifact creatures to try and reanimate. I think inkwell leviathan or blightsteel colossus is where I want to be, but Bosh, Iron Golem seems solid too. Should I run some number of through the breach?
I like trash for treasure as a way to reanimate more than the breech or goryo's vengeance because you get to keep the creature--which is why either shroud or indestructability seem solid, even if you don't win the same turn they come into play they are tough to remove and you can combo out faster--though you are all in.
let me know what you think, suggestions welcome and appreciated.
I've been thinking of a Trash for Treasure deck using possessed portal and dredge. Dredge the portal into the graveyard and then feed it with life from the loam. Shape anew can serve as back up to trash from treasure.
Teh gio you are close but the big guy never hits the grave the way emmy does. Blightsteel has an instead clause that completely makes it miss the yard. That really doesnt matter as trash is sorcery so...
Id suggest a wurmcoil, sundering tital, sphinx of the steel wing, inkwell combination package. Boarding in more or less of each depending on the matchup. Like sphinx and coil against aggro and upping inkwell to 4 and a 1 of split with titan coil for control. Going to 4 titan in the combo matches. If combo has a set amount of damage you want titan, coil and sphinx as your targets but infinate damage you want titan inkwell. Inkwell to prevent remoal and put a fast clock and titan to disrupt them enough to get a few swings in.
Also agree with izzet as the color combo. You get looting, and charm as solid filter enablersand you get looter il kor to swing in shadow damage and loot.
derp, should read the card totally forgot about the shuffle clause on blightsteel. Wurmcoil is probably the next best thing. The way I see it the deck has to has a weakness to some sort of removal either to graveyard removal cards or path to exile. The other shell I'm trying to work in was potentially a heartless summoning dileo where I could loot into the graveyard a myr retriever and then grapeshot the opponent to death, but a 60 card competitive format doesn't give you enough slots to consistently do both before disruption besides discard becomes relevant. I think if bosh doesn't pan out the big esper artifact sphinxes might be another route to explore.
I want to bring this deck to my shops modern tournament but I want it to be as viable as possible before I invest in the cards. As it stands the deck is cheap but as close to great as possible would be nice.
is it best to go izzet for just the charm? I feel like the splash isn't worth it until there are more reasons to go blue.
also the idea with trinisphere is that faithless looting happens before hand to get the reanimation target into the graveyard first (or is flashbacked for three anyway), and then TfT for three as was the plan always anyway. I like trinisphere for when the decks heavy hitters are unaffected but the opponents removal is either way. path for three might not happen on time, same with abrupt decay, and counters probably won't be online until after my deed is done.
what happened? I had debated that actually, but there are like three other directions I want the deck to go in and was having trouble managing to make it all work. Tron is tough to fit because I'd be running 4x expedition map too.
I got some good results with it, the "waiting" artifacts have really good synergy with the deck, Locket of Yesterdays allow to flashback Faithless Looting for 2 (and many more cards), Chromatic Star allow to cantrip on Trash for Treasure, or workaround in some case when Blood Moon is on the table. Alhammarret's Archive is a monster late game card for this deck, I often start to draw 4/6 cards in a single turn when it's entering, while Wurmcoil Engine is really good too on late game (that's why there is 4 instead of Sundering Titan). Sundering Titan remains the fastest win condition on many matchup, closing the game on t3, especially on 3 colors deck, it does bump a lot Mana Leak/Spell Pierce power in middle/late game.
The SB is still not perfect, didn't get the right things there, but enough already to support decent matchup.
Long story short: it's a good deck.
Looks pretty short on artifacts--I can't imagine having zero darksteel citadel and heavier presence of either mana rocks or stuff like wellsprings.
I would also try some number of izzet charm for extra looting--it also protects your stuff when it isn't need to dump stuff into the yard.
It is more all-in on Trash than other lists, but I don't do well playing control. This list has Moltensteel Dragon as a midrange threat that you can cast if you don't have Trash, and a more diversified set of trash to get from the yard. I wanted all the artifact creatures to be hardcastable, so that left out Sphinx of the Steel Wind who is basically the artifact version of Akroma. Platinum Angel should probably be in the sideboard, but it completely shuts down Infect/Boggles. Sundering Titan has been very mediocre for me in testing, but I haven't tested against many 3+ color decks. Memnarch takes over long, grindy games out of the sideboard. I took effort not to turn this list into Affinity with a Trash Plan B, and I am not sure it was the right way to build it. You lose consistency in exchange for the ability to power out these game-winning cards on Turn 2.
All in Mono-red draft. Feel like you want to be quick but the creatures your reanimate have to produce value themselves. With Faithless Looting or Tormenting Voice, you can discard Sharuum the Hegemon and Myr Battlesphere/Scuttling Doom Engine. Reanimate her along with a friend; if that friend is Myr Battlesphere you get 4 more friends. If its Doom Engine, you get a creature you can attack with, then sacrifice to another Trash for Treasure and deal 6 to your opponent. Or if your opponent kills it, you still benefit...same with Battlesphere.

The best high mana target is probably Sundering Titan since it has good odds of wiping out all of the opponent's lands.
I'm not sure if the TfT shell is the best home for Trinisphere since it really messes with first-cast Faithless Looting?
I like Trash for Treasure, but I always picture it in more of U/R shell?

Phyrexian Metamorph, well dont think I need to explain.
Mishra's Bauble and Mox Opal can serve as initial Trash for Treasure bait. But are also beneficial in acceleration and later Baubles can replace themselves.
Can go off as early as turn 1 with the "nut".
Idk, just a rough draft.
