In any deck with black, Grim Flayer also fills this role a little better, also so dose mandrills and gurmag angler in decks that dont run Bob or need gy much ( they also dodge path which is nice). In more mono build steelleaf is also doing a good goyf impression as Is rhonas with the right support structure.
Yep, Grim Flayer is a decent substitute in GB decks that can't afford goyf. Really good card filtering if the flayer connects even just once.
Sorry for double post. After some games today, I'm pretty much convinced that Grim Flayer is a decent goyf substitute. My deck now has a set of goyf and one flayer... well, sure he's only a 4/4 trample compared to 5/6 or even 6/7 of goyf... but if you built the deck with plenty of removal to clear blockers larger than flayer.. the 4/4 madman with his axe is really good at keeping your deck gassed, dead draws are eliminated.
Hi, I'm trying to build a Ponza deck. I'll buy the Blood Moon (because they are a must in this deck), but I wanted to know if there is a budget option for Tireless Tracker.
Maybe Courser of Kruphix in the deck? I can't draw cards, but at least I filter lands.
Another option is to go with 3-drops that can close out a game effectively once opponents stumble on mana (like your deck is supposed to work).
It can be: Goblin Rabblemaster, Hanweir Garrison or Legion Warboss.
Was going through my collection and came across Village Messenger. Now I don't personally need a replacement for Goblin Guide but I see it asked for a lot in burn communities, and while I don't know if it's better than simply adding another Prowess creature alongside Monastery Swiftspear like Soul-Scar Mage or Blistercoil Weird I think it has potential. I'd like your thoughts.
Bitterblossom: Dreadhorde Invasion
Sure, there is not the evasion, but the chump-blockers/sacrificial-fodder aspects are definitely there. Dreadhorde costs 1cmc less to cast and if left unchecked by itself can net you back the lost life, not to mention buffs can hasten this rebate.
Dark Confidant: Twilight Prophet
I know 4cmc is a stretch, but this turns the life-loss around and points it towards your opponents, and has a bigger body.
Leyline of Sanctity: Ivory Mask
Why wasn't this an auto include? Ivory Mask is the original ancestor of LoS. I'm so lazy, my legacy white deck STILL has these on the sideboard for burn match-ups. Sure Ivory grants Shroud and LoS grants Hexproof, but for how little white targets itself, the difference is rarely even noticed.
to get to 6x lands quicker.

Thanks.
Other options can be random value 3-drops like:
Eternal Witness, Kitchen Finks (got cheaper after UMS reprint) or Thrashing Brontodon (maindeck artifact/enchantment hate).

Ruin Raider does a decent Bob impression as well, but mostly fits aggro decks rather than more midrangy ones.
