I mean looking at the Modern banlist, the other things that aren't would be Depths, KCI, Jitte and maybe the artifact lands. Hence why I've always been a fan of SFM coming off the ban list. It's an enabler but a pretty slow one and those aren't problematic. If they were, Lotus Bloom should be punted too and that's just ludicrous.
Wizard's has actually been pretty consistent in going after the enablers. Hence why Lootings, Stirrings and Mox Opal likely garner attention. If there's any decent grave hate in Horizon's though, the irritation of Lootings/Phoenix will drop pretty quickly.
Also on Phoenix, I wonder if it was pushed for Modern. For Legacy, Gavin was upfront that he thought he only had a very outside chance to see any play on the format (via the Leaving a Legacy podcast) but I don't recall if they spoke about it in the context of modern.
the card itself really isn't worth the card board its printed on...does it serve a purpose? Sure its a blue 1 drop that might not be a 1/1. I would not put it in a list and expect to win a PTQ or GP though.
I dunno, we put cards in our decks because they're good i.e. because they enable us to move forward with our game plan. Most cards are enablers, so the definition ends up being so broad as to be useless.
Isn't it simpler to talk about cards that just provide too much for what they cost, (maybe in too many decks as well) if we're discussing bans and format health.
Next ban/unban announcement on Monday. Is it time for Stoneforge?
I would love that but it's unlikely for this upcoming B/R announcement.
WotC will probably ride the hype wave of Modern Horizons until 2020, then maybe they'll consider an unban. The only B/R change I can see this year is a potential ban of Faithless Looting, but only if it continues to over perform.
we're getting a walker a pack in WOTS but realistically most of them are not going to be constructed playable. They did this before when they put a DFC in every pack and we only really got a handful of playable ones.
Will be counting it as a win if there even 5 modern-playable walkers in WOTS.
Guys please opinions on japanese cards. Lost a 3/3 creature against Japan celestial colonade. This guy played all creatures and spells in english cards, but some cards in his manabase was japanese. I dont registrated this really ( my brain say its all fine and all english to me lets attack his empty board)...and i am sure it is a Kind of legal cheating. It is not ok, but i know legal. I Hate such people. I never forget colonade normally, but with this Tricks it can happen one time in 3 years and such people take advantage of this
If I am a customer spending premium amount of dollars, I expect a premium service. Jund falls into the category of a premium deck costing more dollars than a majority of the rest of the format. I'm not getting the desired performance ratio per dollars spent out of the Jund deck because WOTC decided to make the format more diverse.
I just cannot imagine most of the walkers being on the typical power level, there has to be a catch in it somewhere.
It's nice that there will be so many of them to choose from, although after this set, the PW kinda ceases to be a 'special' card. It already has, what with the way they print them even in trash precons, but WoS seems set to take that to the next level.
I know it's a long shot, but with all those walkers, it's inevitable each color gets ways to deal with them, and a couple Modern playable, which will be nice, but I would really love a way to interact with emblems. I know they have resisted that idea before, but killing all the manlands and then Teferi gets an emblem and then just bones whatever you are trying to do, it feels bad. I know it probably won't happen, but if there were ever a set to just include one card that nullifies target emblem, this would be the one

I'm thinking the same. They will most likely want to have some more time to let the format settle after the KCI ban, so I think Monday will be a quiet day for Modern.
At least, I'm hoping so. I'm going to MF Calgary in a few weeks and picked up the last of my Dredge list, and I really don't want to fret about getting a new deck together and wasting all that testing. ^^'
We are absolutely and most certainly seeing "No Changes" at the next B&R. I'd hazard a guess that we won't even get a text update. Just: No chanhes. Next announcement such and such date.
Sneaky SFM unban with new cycle of Swords in MH1. Breaks no rules or spoiler claims, gives us a ton of swords to tinker with our new unban.
... Or no change. Whatever.
Why would they unban a card that they consider "risky" AND print extra toys with said risky cards? Doesn't really make sense as a logic.
Because it's not risky whatsoever to anyone remotely familiar with the format? And anyone who believes she poses any threat to Modern is woefully misguided?
Her placement on the banned list has exactly zero to do with her power level in the current state of affairs.

this is a big reason why we likely wont see any changes on monday. there are 3 modern GPs in the next few weeks. so waiting till those are over doesnt screw over a lot of players, and it gives more data to better inform whatever decision.

Back on the PW topic, we all know several walkers see modern play to varying extents, but has anyone come across a super friends type fringe deck in existence? I've seen walkers used as finishers like in RW prison and UB control and of course Karn, but not what I would call a full out planeswalker deck. If anyone has seen something please post a link to it. If there is a fringe teir 3 walker deck out there this could be a big shot in the arm for it kinda like what spirits got a while back.

I think I heard about a fringe Doubling Season superfriends deck a while back, but I don't think that Modern has a tiered planeswalker-centric deck.

I once saw a deck loaded with at least 10-12 walkers in mtgtop 8, but that was years ago and cannot remember the deck anymore.

sure? Never be sure of wotc make decisions. If we had known how and why they make decisions, sfm would be free since years now. How often people thinked they will unban sure it and how often it was wrong? Maybe now they do it if people say no way this time? Maybe they show us again they make decisions and not we...

Really excited as well. These new walker cards would bring plenty of life to modern.
Maybe Call the Gatewatch will be a usable card now?
