Honestly I think at this point I'm cheering for something like RG Titanshift...
The day 2 breakdown just came up. I didn't get a chance to screenshot it, but the top 8 decks are somewhat interesting. Affinity, Hollow One, Humans, Jund, Pyromancer, Burn, UWR Control, and one other I'm not remembering. That's midrange, control, and aggro all doing well which it's hard to complain about.
Oh don't worry, this forum will find a way to complain.
Affinity doing real well, I called it in the state of modern thread that this meta was cycling away from artifact hate and could allow affinity to put a strong showing.
I'm sure people will complain, I have my complaints about the format too, but the top decks are pretty exciting even if I find some of them extremely unfun to play against. I can't say the format seems unhealthy... a little aggressive but not unhealthy.
Interesting, and not at all surprising day 2 numbers.
I'm definitely curious about the discrepancies between Jeskai and Blue Moon builds, and whether or not all Shadow decks were combined too (their time walk match labeled Traverse Shadow as Grixis, for example).
A Blue Moon vs Jeskai Control is on camera right now. I'm excited to see a Jeskai Flash list doing so well. Blue Moon seems to be TITI and no White for the main differences.
Honestly I think at this point I'm cheering for something like RG Titanshift...
Lol. Those are mostly decks that I play and even I admit that they shouldn't be the most played decks. The meta feels better when decks like Bogles are Tier 2 at best. I don't want people building their deck with my deck in mind!

Guys please opinions on japanese cards. Lost a 3/3 creature against Japan celestial colonade. This guy played all creatures and spells in english cards, but some cards in his manabase was japanese. I dont registrated this really ( my brain say its all fine and all english to me lets attack his empty board)...and i am sure it is a Kind of legal cheating. It is not ok, but i know legal. I Hate such people. I never forget colonade normally, but with this Tricks it can happen one time in 3 years and such people take advantage of this
If I am a customer spending premium amount of dollars, I expect a premium service. Jund falls into the category of a premium deck costing more dollars than a majority of the rest of the format. I'm not getting the desired performance ratio per dollars spent out of the Jund deck because WOTC decided to make the format more diverse.
The meta is much more fun when decks like Bogles aren't at the top tables.
I am a Bogles player (not recently because I felt like the deck was hampering me using my play skill a bit) and I agree with this 100%. Bogles is also super good vs. Humans and Hollow One.

Day 2 looked great and we have a bunch of diverse decks across the color and archetype spectrum rolling into T8.
If I have any real issue with this event it's the commentary. The chemistry isn't quite there, which would be fine on its own if the expertise was there instead. Sadly, the expertise isn't there either. We have commentators not knowing certain cards, missing lines, ignorant of deck histories, unsure about how cards work in certain matchups, ignorant of matchup dynamics, etc. The SCG commentators are much more seasoned, even if occasionally a little insider and cringey. Wizards would do well to get more dynamic commentary going. Then again, it might not matter because this stream has 14k viewers as is.

While the commentating is not the most informed, I find something funny about commentators that know very little about the format. I guess it's easier for me because I only have time to watch parts of this GP, unfortunately for me.
Taking Turns! Yaaasssss. IdSurge, maybe we'll still get there? (despite my friend dropping on Day 1 with Turns)

Looks like all of the decks of the 8 players that Rich Hagon showed us and the feature match consist of Affinity/Abzan Counters/Bogles and ... 1 Hollow One. Tons of diversity among decks vying for the top 8 (well, not 1 Affinity and 1 Bogles, which are almost assuredly in anyway).

as for coverage quality. their commentary is pretty bad, but one thing they do way better than scg right now is just the volume of watchable content. their gp coverage includes almost double the matches/games shown and isnt riddled with self promotion that just eats up air time.

I say this all the time, I wish they would hire an e-sports commentator for DOTA or LOL. Get some excitement covering a tournament. The WOTC/CFB (at what point can we consider them one in the same?) staff I always thought suffered from an issue of taking this too seriously. Get some energy, get hype, less dad humor. We're literally summoning dragons not playing golf.
What makes them amazing isn't just their glowing chemistry, humor, and stories, but encyclopedic knowledge cards throughout history (Pat for older cards, Ced for newer cards). That, and the passion and enthusiasm they have for rants and opinions. They really are the best of the best for Magic commentary.
They have set a high bar for commenting. I don't require other commentators to be at that level in my opinion.
But at least we learned something eh? You use your arms like a windshield wiper to do an alpha attack. I had always just tapped creatures one by one. Sadly it's the reason that I'm not on the Pro Tour. (in addition to not really trying and not being a good player)

It also helps that Patrick is a fantastic orator. It doesn't matter the topic, he speaks very well.
Against Humans and Affinity, it should be amazing no?
Everyone has their own opinion, but I feel that Humans is favored for Grixis, but not by as much as you'd think. Also, Affinity is not favored. Yes, there are hands where Bolt into Bolt into K Command shuts down a slower Affinity hand, but Affinity has too much tempo. The die roll is super important, as usual (I feel like I'm saying this for nearly every matchup now). Hollow One beats Grixis. I've seen Grixis pilots hedge against Hollow One with Nihil Spellbomb in addition to the usual Surgical Extraction in the SB.
But...Grixis vs. Bogles. Not close in the slightest figment of your imagination.

So funny story, I was playing a tournament in Pittsburgh about three years ago, and one of their twitch stream commentators fell ill and had to leave. So they had one match with just one guy talking. After that, though, they went to my friend who had already dropped and basically said "hey, we need somebody who knows the game, format and meta for color commentary, are you in?" Of course he agreed, and just like what I was saying before he was treating it like the spells being played were real. It was Shadows Over Innistrad standard, and he just hammed it up it was hilarious.

yeah magic just isnt that kind of game. hearthstone coverage is the same way. calm and insightful commentary on decision, strategy, card choices, and the matchup is the way to go. hyping up someone making a land drop, thinking for 20 seconds, then passing the turn just isnt possible.
the cedric/patrick combo is the gold standard.

The top decks are mostly fast aggro decks, so it's not surprising that one of the best and most reliable fast aggro decks is doing well.
I really want to see some of the Jeskai and Blue Moon decklists though. There is a LOT of variety when it comes to builds of both of these.
