Lots of great events this weekend and lots to discuss! This thread is for discussion of the double GP and the Modern portion of the SCG Baltimore team event. Feel free to discuss all things related to those events, but being sure to follow the forum guidelines and thread rules as well:
1. Unless otherwise noted, all MTGS forum and Modern subforum rules apply. Notably, no trolling or flaming.
2. The spamming bar is much lower in this thread than in other Modern threads. It's okay to have more of a free-flow conversation here, but if it gets too random and off-topic, staff might change this guideline.
3. Banlist talk is okay in this thread as long as it relates to the events and doesn't get out of hand. Again, staff might jump in if it gets too overwhelming.
4. Format bashing is not okay. If you want to criticize Modern, that's okay, but do so in a constructive fashion and support your points with arguments and evidence.
GPT lists don't typically predict the metagame, but they do give a decent sense about where some players are placing their bets. I'll be looking to see how blue-based reactive decks do all weekend, and although I like the RW Prison decks here, the lack of blue-based reactive decks isn't a promising start. But we'll see how it plays out once we get much more event data!
Guys please opinions on japanese cards. Lost a 3/3 creature against Japan celestial colonade. This guy played all creatures and spells in english cards, but some cards in his manabase was japanese. I dont registrated this really ( my brain say its all fine and all english to me lets attack his empty board)...and i am sure it is a Kind of legal cheating. It is not ok, but i know legal. I Hate such people. I never forget colonade normally, but with this Tricks it can happen one time in 3 years and such people take advantage of this
If I am a customer spending premium amount of dollars, I expect a premium service. Jund falls into the category of a premium deck costing more dollars than a majority of the rest of the format. I'm not getting the desired performance ratio per dollars spent out of the Jund deck because WOTC decided to make the format more diverse.
Going into Round 9, the last round of Day 1, the top tables were: 3 Eldrazi Tron, 2 Elves, 2 Esper Control, Jund, Abzan, 4-Color Scapeshift Combo, Red-Green Tron, Goryo's Vengeance Combo, Bant Company, Sram'O's Combo, Lantern Control, and Dredge.
2 Esper Control probably refers to the 1 confirmed undefeated Esper Delve, the other might be a similar build.
Jund probably refers to a death shadow build judging by the tweets.
4 tron variants but for the most part pretty good mix of decks at the top.

Glad to see some Abzan on there, I've been saying it was the better deck since Fatal Push, let's see if any reach further than Jund in both tournaments
The lack of blue is definitely not promising, I think it's going to be similar in Vancouver.
Burn was an excellent meta choice, not surprised to see it doing well. I'm actually in the middle of buying burn again, just for annoying metas that consist of so much ramp and combo decks. I always thought the nacatl builds were stupid.
Taufik is my hero and better go all the way. Day 2 is always tough, but Cheeri0s is busted and has the raw power and the math to back up a strong Day 2 run. I fully expect to see it in the Top 8.
So far, Taufik's performance is 100% in line with my own stats and experience with the deck. I will be shocked if we don't see a similar run at GP Van by at least one player.
Agreed that Burn (and Cheeri0s) are great meta calls. Also, I'm not surprised (and very pleased!) to see my tribe of choice putting up good results! It's very weak to GR Tron and probably folds hard to Cheeri0s, making it risky, but the elfball threat is real and super fun to run!

My experience with post-nerf dredge is that it is still powerful, but without the super-troll topend and less explosive openings. Still a very grindy comboy type deck though if you can't interact with graveyards.

Two combo decks finish early and we have zero filler coverage or relevant content before the next round. They REALLY gotta step up their GP coverage... where's LSV with all the fun in-between segments? We just have a slide that says "Back at next round!"
Edit: at least we can watch SCG in the meantime. LOL.
Edit2: update from twitch chat:
"Magic : Also, we're sorry that Round 1 didn't go as long as we wanted - we thought we were getting three Feature Matches, but two featured no-shows, so we were at the mercy of that single match"
So at least they're aware of it. Early rounds must be hard, but it's a shame they don't even have Paul and Marshall sitting and chitchatting to fill time.
God, this Taylor guy playing Eldrazi is painful. I'm glad he's about to lose, he was an awful player getting beaten by a better player in a horrible matchup

We'll see better play from rounds 3 and on. Lots of good players come in with 2 byes, so first two rounds are the wild west of player skill and deck choice.

Super surprised about the UB Mill, see its leaning on the bridge probably. Still a very fast list of top decks for Brisbane.

I usually try not to be critical of players on stream, but I definitely don't love the lines of play the shoal player took.
